    I've rekindled my love affair with analogue. Just picked up an OM-1n. ;)

    Great advice on loading the film from the right hand side first. I recall *cough* 30 years ago with my then Olympus having a devil of a time threading into the spool on the rhs. The film tore a few times. A few years ago I picked up a good nick OM-1 for $45, I have some expired 35 mm film and am keen to revisit the world of film after 10 years of Digital. :-)

    The shutter on the OM1 is a bit slow at 1/500 up to about one-third slow and at 1/1000 up to about half a stop, so beware of that to prevent overexposure !

    Does anybody really know which battery use? Lr44 + adapter are actually ok for the correct light measures?

    Hey, I have an Olympus OM-1 and it has the mirror lock up, I bought a 1.55 V 625A battery, is that it? It has to be a 1.35V battery? help. Thank you!

    I've just bought one of these and I have a question about the preview button. When I use the meter and the needle is in the middle (correct exposure) then press the preview view button, the view through the view finder becomes darker and the needle drops. Does this mean my image will be underexposed?

    • @p8blr
      @p8blr  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Dan. I noticed that too when I first got the camera, so I tried it both ways to find out. The metering needle is correct when you are not pressing the preview button.

      The "preview" button on the lens is to visually observe the depth of field (zone of sharpness) provided by the particular aperture setting on the lens. Like squinting your eyes, a smaller aperture (bigger "f" number) on a lens will make a greater range of the image appear to be sharper. Conversely, a larger opening (smaller "f" number) will reduce the zone of sharpness. The camera calculates the exposure with the lens "wide open" however, to make it faster and easier to use.
      Be aware, by the way, that light entering the eyepiece WILL affect the meter reading! So set your exposure with your eye up close to the camera's eyepiece at all times.

    Does anyone know if it matters if the little piece on the rewind nob is placed inside while shooting?

    • @p8blr
      @p8blr  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lever that flips out? No that shouldn't matter.

    how do you move the iso dial ? i loaded it?, but now it won't move so i can change it to the correct iso.

      @p8blr  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hold down the small silver button to the right of the iso dial, it’s a little covered by the winding lever.

    Can you make a video how to make double exposure using olympus om-1? Really need it

    • @clintonr9804
      @clintonr9804 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The OM's weren't made for double exposure, but if you want to try, it can be done, although registration is unpredictable (the film will likely shift, at least a little).
      1. When you are ready to attempt a double exposure, gently rotate the rewind knob counterclockwise to take up any slack in the film within the film cassette. but don't force it! Let go of the rewind knob and if it turns on it's own, let it.
      2. Frame and shoot your first shot, modifying the exposure settings if necessary -- a little research and practice will help.
      3. As before, rotate the rewind knob counterclockwise gently, but hold the knob in place using the fingers of your left hand. Then, with your right hand, turn the rewind release on the front of the camera (the device on the front of the top cover just below the release button that you turn to rewind the film at the end of a roll), and HOLD IT to keep it from turning vertically again, then give the wind lever a complete stroke with your thumb to wind the shutter.
      4. Take your second exposure.
      5. Let go of the rewind knob and rewind release and wind the camera to the next frame. As you begin winding, watch the rewind release to be sure it pops vertically at the beginning of the wind stroke. This usually won't happen immediately, so it is possible/likely that the next frame will slightly overlap with the double exposed frame, so if full frame images are necessary, it will be best to cover the lens and fire off a blank shot before proceeding with subsequent exposures.

      OOPS! I should have said turn the rewind knob CLOCKWISE, not counter! Turning the knob counter clockwise may unscrew the knob from the rewind shaft! My error!

    how to unload film?

    • @clintonr9804
      @clintonr9804 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the end of a roll of film, or any time you want to remove the film without harming any images you've taken, turn the little knob (rewind release) on the front of the top cover just below the release button so that it is horizontal -- the little arrow shows which way to turn it. (It should stay horizontal, but if it's out of adjustment you may need to hold it that way.) This disengages the camera's wind gears so that the film can be rewound back into the cassette. Lift out the little lever in the top of the rewind knob and use it to turn the rewind knob clockwise ONLY -- if you turn it backwards, it may unscrew! You will feel then the film slips out of the takeup spool and is wound completely back into the cassette. Then it is safe to open the back cover by pulling up on the rewind knob.

    • @clintonr9804
      @clintonr9804 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The next time you wind the camera after rewinding a roll, the rewind release should pop back vertically on it's own -- if not, you may have to physically turn it vertically by hand, in the opposite direction of the arrow.

    More than 30 YEARS working for 3 major news agencies, done assignments for Natgeo and Discover... have experience with Nikon, Canons, MInoltas, you name it!... never seen done and never ever loaded film that way... Is left to right ALWAYS! although it has not been talked a lot... but Olympus'ses are little more tricky to load this way or any way at all... this is "one" of the many reasons "we" ditched them and went back to the former ones!!
