Hi everyone, and welcome to another upgrade video here on RC fun&games.
Today, we are finally going to be installing the RCAWD 370 Motor and transmission In the awesome Super Mario van ( hobbyplus CR-18P Rockvan )
This motor and transmission combo was sent to me to install and review, by RCAWD.
The installation was very simple, but I had a few issues with the hardware provided, watch the video for more details.
It is an impressive set up, but it is not great for slow, modulated, crawling!
But it comes with an awesome system, where you can run different size, ping, gears
So hopefully soon, they will be available so we can set it up to our own preference.
All in all, I am very impressed with the product, but I would like to see them address the way it fits to the mounting plate and of course provide the right hardware for the installation.
Besides, those few issues, the incredible power and speed gains are insane, and a lot of fun out on the trail.
My kids think it’s great and want me to install this transmission and motor combo in all their CR-18P trucks!
Even I’ve got to admit I had a lot of fun testing and filming the rock van with this crazy set up!
I will take the rock van out on a technical trail, so we can see how this set up copes.

No hex screws? Kinda surprised.
Also, sorta....not s fan of, how that gear box looks, leaves the gears open for debris to get in there, even if everything is greased & oiled, would have me worried.
It came with hex screws, but as you could see they didn't provide any countersunk hex screws!
Besides that I totally agree with you!!
I don't like an open gearbox!!
And I really don't like the way the whole gearbox sits on two little pieces of aluminum, only on one side of the transmission!
The first thing I said when I looked at it! Was that I don't like anything that's got open holes for little stones and dust to get into!! Especially when it's made for speed!! and the wheels are throwing all that sand and dust up into the transmission!!
They definitely need to rethink the design of this transmission!
But if you're ever building an on-road truck it's a pretty good setup for a clean environment! 😅

That really means a lot to me, as I have the same concerns with this product.
@rcfungames I couldn't agree more, dude, they definitely need to re-think their design aspect of their motor upgrades, especially when it comes to their gearboxes. Especially if you look at Axial's SCX24s, which doesn't have holes or you look at Traxxas' TRX4Ms that don't have holes, neither. May be learn from other companies, would really help them, in the long run. 💪🏻🤠

Nice honest review and yea this is definitely a speed motor for the CR-18!
I was definitely a bit shocked to see the state of the drive shaft!!
I have barely run this van and definitely haven't got it in the situation that it should have done that damage to the drive shaft!!
Going to be checking my other van which has run a lot more to see if it is also sustained this damage.
I really can't remember getting it in any situation that should have caused that damage.
I had to be honest, in my opinion this is not suitable for anybody trying to build a crawler!
I have already spoken to them and they will be letting their design team know, and hopefully they will be addressing the issues I have mentioned.
I am hoping to see a sealed transmission with at least two pinions provided one for speed one for crawling.

Definitely not a body suited to build a very capable crawler!! But still one of my favorites!!
And I totally agree it definitely makes for an awesome Trail rig!!
I will definitely be taking it to the Sandy Canyon place bro!! I'll give it a good run over there and might even get a jump or two out of it 😂🤣

Oh shoot, it’s a good thing you opened it to to see that drive shaft.
Definitely wasn't expecting any damage!! As I have only run this van a few times!! And I have been extremely careful with it 🤔
I don't ever remember getting it in a situation where it would be bound up to cause the damage!!
I will definitely be checking my other van which has run a lot more to see if it has any damage.
Well at least I know what I'm upgrading next 😅

Definitely!! this is not a good fit for a crawler at all!!
Let's hope they rethink the design, and at least give some optional gearing if you'd like to set it up for crawling.

Like I've mentioned, the concept is great! But the design needs some work!!
And I would like to also see, an extra pinion gear, part of this kit, allowing us to gear it down for crawling.

I tried to speak to them about these issues, before I put up the video! And they weren't too concerned.
So I thought I better be honest as I wouldn't want people spending their money on this product knowing that it's got too many downsides to its design.

No, not as far as I am aware!
So far, I have only see this setup available at RCAWD.
It's a great concept but they definitely need to rethink the open transmission design!
After that short video the transmission is covered in sand and dust!!
And of course I can get crunching inside because of the sand entering all the holes!

Wish I seen your video before I ordered this. Everything you say is correct. It is hard to believe anyone approved this disaster of a transmission. Mine was “unbranded” but exactly like yours. I assumed mine was missing parts etc and got a refund on mine but they let me keep it. I did install it since I had it and it’s kinda fun, but too fast for any crawling and I would never recommend this to anyone. The worst single rc item I’ve owned. Also I have never seen an ad for these that shows the huge gaps and absurd narrow-edge floating mounting arrangement. They don’t want you to see what a joke this item is.

No me neither!! It was a real letdown when I saw how this transmission was designed and with so many holes making it impossible to keep dirt out of the gears.

It would have been nice if they provided a different pinion gear to gear it down! with the kit!!
I also don't like the fact that dirt and stones can get into it!
And I'm not a big fan of only having two little tabs on one side of the transmission to support all that power!

@rcfungames hoping they listen to your critical feedback I bought their aluminium transmission skid for the t hunter thinking it was a upgrade but there was no way of mounting the transmission the evo version thanks

I had to be honest! even if RCAWD is not happy with my review.
I honestly wouldn't waste my money on this product!
After that short run that you saw in the video, the whole transmission is covered in dirt, and of course sand has got into it just like I thought.
If you want to turn the rock van, into a drift vehicle, and run it in a clean environment with this setup! it's great 😅
Not the set up you want for crawling. and to not include the proper hardware to install is just wrong !
No it's definitely not set up for crawling!! Which is rather disappointing
And yes I was even more disappointed that the proper hardware wasn't included.
I have let them know all the issues I have had with this system, and they said they would be addressing the issues.
So let's see what the V2 will be like

@@rcfungamessadly I don’t think they care. This item has been out for over a year. And they have a version for the fms straight axle trucks. Same issues.
