Như Phương ...it's part of the US indoctrination, that has been programmed into the minds of US citizens for decades, by mainstream media and other methods.
The US history books are written to promote the United States as a beacon of light that fights for freedom and democracy around the world. The United States has never spread an ounce of democracy, only dictatorships and terrorism. But ask the average US citizen about the CIA overthrowing democratically elected leaders of other nations, to install a dictators that allows US corporations to pillage and rape the resources of those nations, and those same US citizens will not believe you. Because they're never informed of the realities of their criminal government, so they *believe* the US is the greatest nation in the world.
The US citizens are told lies on a daily basis, and it was not until the Internet really developed into what it is today, that US citizens are starting to be exposed to the corrupt and criminal acts of the US gov and its corporations. Take the Iraq war, and the lie that was broadcasted across all the US news networks, that Iraq had WMDs. It was all a manufactured lie by the criminal US gov, and the news networks pushed that lie to the US citizens.
But how long before the US Empire enforces censorship on independent networks, TH-cam channels and etc, will be interesting. TH-cam has already censored videos that expose Israel war crimes by Abby Martin.

whatever04 You are just plain ignorant. Iran is waaaay better than Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is where most of the 9/11 terrorists came from, it is where Osama bin Laden came from, it's the birth place of whahabi Islam that is the source of Islamic terrorism. You can live freely as a woman in Iran, all you need is a head scarf. Iranian Universities produce some of the best students and academics. No one is saying Iran is a paradise but they are not the ones causing instability in the region. The US, Israel and Saudi Arabia are doing that all on their own.

The thing about Chomsky is that he seems to have a lot of facts at his finger tips that most people don't. That's what people need in order to truly understand anything: Facts.

    • @isai9021
      @isai9021 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I guess it's because facts actually represent the 50% of a true opinion. Most people are just impelled to say something (anything, indeed), so they replace the facts with ideology. We can see that in all platforms. And when it comes to international policy it's a shame.

I think the main point is that Chomsky, has not just dug undera the surface to get these facts, but he's got a fact, and turned it on its head to see what is relevant to the debate at large. Understanding takes intellectual rigour, and people|I rarely do this. This girl who asked the question, actually asked a good question. E.G one or 2 nuclear weapons, require deployment technology, That which is jus Adapt as difficult as developiing tthe bomb, in terms of reaching anywhere the US,, Would be concerned about. Evening. They did get this technology, the US capability, would vaporise the state immediately. Which then suggests the question "why is Israel really worried?" Then it helpss you to explore to find out tthat there is a significant exodus, from israel, which has become gradually more exponential over time
The girl should havve questioned his answer on the phrase used by Iran to describe the legitimacy of Israel, and particularly the semantics Involved. She should have prompted Chomsky to ellaborate, because just leaving it at ," would be no need for Israel to exist", does not in itself, subordinate the phrase to non-violent forms of state eradication. The "offer" is empty. It is never going to happen. Israel would lose part of Jerusalem. There would be thousands of refugees (on both sides) to deal with. And many other resource, holy site, and technical issues. And there is ZERO reason to believe the Muslim countries and Palestinians would abide and leave Israel in peace. It would just be giving them back land (that Israel won) while changing nothing for Israel. It's like the old saying "never give the devil an inch".
You are talking about 2002 while conveniently ignoring 50+ years before that. Conveniently ignoring the original UN Partition Plan (from 1947) which was agreed upon by everybody except Arab leaders (who refused any negotiation). Conveniently ignoring the invasion and war started by Arab countries.
Look at all of the land in the Middle East owned by Muslim Arabs. Israel had to take Jews as refugees from Arab lands... how about the Arab countries take the Palestinians as refugees? If they really cared about the Palestinian people they would have done that years ago. Instead, they use them as bargaining chips and weapons to try to destroy Israel and take over that land. That offer is on the table, but of course the Arab countries would never accept that.

ah I misread your original comment, my bad, its in comparison to the US allies, ok. It is still a shithole for human rights, though, Ive actually met iranians who fleed because of persecution, because they are bahai. Atheists, gays, jews and women are treated like shit there everyone knows this, the only people who dont are regressive teenagers who live in a bubble, protected from the real world, I know you want to believe that the US is the only evil and that its all the conservative christian white imperialists in the US but there are millions of bigots in the middle east who will kill their own family member if they dare be honest about their religious beliefs, there are millions of people who would kill their own family member, if they come out as gay, in the middle east. This is because of islam.
Iran doesnt recognize atheists and bahais as citizens,
"Therefore, despite the fact that they constitute the largest religious minority in Iran, the Bahá’ís
are a “non-recognized” religious minority without any legal existence, classified as “unprotected
infidels” by the authorities. They are not even granted the theoretical right to perform their
religion and are subject to systematic discrimination on the basis of their religious beliefs. The
second part of this report will focus on the different types of discrimination faced by the Bahá’ís.
In the same manner, atheists do not have any recognized status. They must declare their faith in
one of the four officially recognized religions in order to be able to claim a number of legal
rights, such as the possibility to apply for the general examination to enter any university in Iran"

johnny roe you have right in some parts and I can recognize that however, you just can't say that Iran has no human rights, when there are more women who get higher education then men, while in Saudi Arabia the women got permission to drive only couple of months ago and they got permission to go to the CINEMA only couple of days ago and nobody adresses this things to them because you are sucking Saudis oil. The thing with the gay people also happends in Indonesia, Malayesia, Qatar, UAE etc.

The beauty of Chomsky's words (and of his superior enlightnment) is that they reflect reality despite western (or eastern) propaganda... Chomsky (like any person who had learned history correctly) just makes you think deeply about reality... He never defends a point like a bllind man, he shows you the facts putting in your shoulders the process of "digest" them, he meerly reffers to the facts and you are the one that must reach a conclusion... Chomsky is like Socrates, he dosen't make statements, he show you reality and then asks you questions in order for you to make the conclusions... He is a pearl, a very rare one...

He has very strong opinions, but he dissects live the thought process at which he arrives into those conclusions. You and I might not agree with everything (or anything) he proposes and argues, but we can never say he is a madman or a person you cannot have a dialog with. And as long as a dialog can be achieve, you know you are in good company, for dialog and exchange of ideas is a requirement for democracy, and a deterrent for tyranny. Cheers.

Has no one noticed the the obvious rhetorical deceptions that he always employs? The first being two wrongs make a right. Example: opening statement, if we're OK with Isreal having one, that was wrong, so we should take no action if anyone else wants one. Second: make a peripheral fact central: a minor un resolution against a two state solution when in fact the US has been pushing for a two state solution since the 70s. When he voices the Israeli concerned that Jews may leave Isreal because of the threat of destruction, he takes the concern of some minor Israeli analyst and moves it to the central position. If Jews were worried about the threat of destruction, there'd be no one there. He uses these two tricks, along with a few others, constantly. And then there's the outright lie, that Iran has never said that they desire the destruction of Israel, they've said it many times, both ayatollah and military leaders or my memory is completly shot. That being said,I believe he is correct in assessing that Iran will never use a nuke but why take the chance?

trump asked why the us werent using nukes before he was elected yout he won the election makes you wonder at the people that voted for such a man, and he was even hinting to use them against north korea which is rediculous

Wilfred Ruffian I agree, the Iranian government is obviously hostile towards Israel... Their leaders even Tweet about destroying Isreal.

Wilfred Ruffian If the USA was serious about a 2-state solution they would cut off aid to Israel until they made it happen. Pigs will fly before that will happen, so that should tell you how serious Israel and their puppets in the USA are about a Palestinian state. The USA backs Israel with no conditions as they continue to expand their settlements. That tells you how much the USA cares about seeing a Palestinian state coming into being. The USA 'Middle East peace plan' different presidents have proposed over 50 years is nothing but political 'smoke and mirrors', as the Zionist agenda continues to roll along unimpeded behind the scenes.

Israel has tried to have a two-state solution multiple times. It's hard to do when neighboring countries don't recognize the existence of Israel.
The US needs to stay loyal to its allies in the region. They've been good to us, we'll be good to them.
