    Great tips for someone like me that has shaky fingers. I'm famous for smearing glue with side mirrors. Thanks!!!

    Pinned my first model this past weekend. My friend gave me some tips as well. Never knew such a thing, but it makes so much sense. Thanks for a great video

    Great tip video! When I did contest models I would use pins to hold certain parts together (hood sides etc.) so they could be removed for display, also helps in the assembly process.

    Nice video, Adam. It's funny, the tips we take for granted sometimes we forget about those who may not know these tricks. Then again, that's why we have channels, lol.

    That's nice. Now I can use that to mount exterior door mirrors, and worry less about breakage. I have used small brass tubing, to fabricate drill guides to center the drill point. This is good to do a perfect center where, like the '40 Ford kits have the button to attach the gas cap. I am certain that the cap is dead center. Something else that I have done, is that I have a scrapped '48 Ford convertible kit, that I cut the rear fender out of. Then scribe cut the gas cap cover door out. And made a template to scribe cover doors on some of the '40 Ford sedan, and coupe hot rod project builds. I do these in the '50s style rod builds. This looks good.

      Yes the pinning method is nice for less mess, accuracy, strength, test fitting, repairs and more.
      Nice tips and system you have.

      @@sodakmodelcars Thanks, I got the drill bit guide idea when I took the heads off of my flathead engine, and one of the bolts broke off. The end of the bolt was below the surface of the block. So rather than risk having an easy out break off, I measured the bolt holes in the head got several diamimiter brass tubes, sleeved them down to make a good pilot hole in the broken bolt. Removing successive tubes, enlarging each drill bit, until the hole was large enough to tap it to put in a new bolt. I modified this, to drill a hole in a round2 release '40 Ford sedan so that I could use a ladies watch winder stem for the gas cap. The fender would break before that gas cap would come off. I have some other ideas for using the drill guide to experiment with for fabricating, or repurposing other parts for other projects.

    Great idea. I pin all my old roll cages usually with styrene cuz my hobby shop doesn’t carry k&s wire that small. 👍👍

      Yes, mirrors are a prime candidate for pinning. Hit the mark and makes them very solid and much more difficult to knock off later.

    Great tips! I have been using pin-cushion pins, but those are often too thick for tiny parts. I will try your suggestion of using thin-gauge wire rods and finger drillbits

    • @sodakmodelcars
      @sodakmodelcars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hope it can help! The small 0.015 is great as it can be fit to nearly anything and is plenty strong for the purpose. I also use the small wire for things such as hood props and antennas better scaling than plastic.
