I tried the hot water technique, I used a few drops of liquid soap, it really made a difference. I do mostly military models and buy a lot of old kits. I always used Luke warm or room temperature water. I find old decals are brittle to begin with, so I am looking forward to try this on those. I hope to see more of you on you tube. Thanks!
BEST decal video yet!!!! Ty very much for the "Dawn" tip... I'm in the middle of a 1993 Revell Jungle Jim Vega funny car.... the side Jungle Jim decal with all the flames and jungle vines and the crazy hair blowing back is a challenge for sure. I was just struggling with the tiny dang back light decals had to find a video for the large crazy side decal and trying the Dawn right now. I just use these cool "light" body's , no model interiors or model tires because I hand build 1/24 -1/25 drag racing slot car chassis's to mount the body's onto. I did build the model supercharged blower engine with zoomies attached to glue in place for show but this particular car uses a pretty powerful slot car motor to be raced on a scaled down 1/4 mi. race track. Around 35-40' actual length. Ty for the tips this particular car I'm very proud of and is beautiful in every way just hope I get these tricky decals on straight without tearing them.
Thank you for sharing how you apply decals. I noticed how well you did the chrome window frames. Would you show me how you get them so perfect. Thank you so much for putting instructions on TH-cam.
Back in the 60's Bill Grumpy Jenkins was my enemy lol! I was a MOPAR kid... Dick Landy and Sox and Martin were the guys I rooted for in Pro Stock. Cheers Old Man
Good advice. The detergent makes the decal slide easier and gives you a little more time to work with it because soaps have a "wetting agent " which lets the water move more fluidly, giving that oiliness you mentioned. More useless information, I know. Good health from Virginia, Don. Cork
Thank god for this. I just came from a video where the guy used three different chemicals to prep the surface, soften the decal, and something else that wasn’t very well communicated.
Some great tips there, but we can’t always use those Slixx decals. Which I think are some of the best. How about dealing with old decals? Like the ones that disintegrate once they hit the water? Or adhesion issues?? Any tips on those?
I was looking into 2 separate products to put decal Walthers 904-470 Solvaset Decal Setting Solvent 2oz 59.1mL Bottle and the Decal Setting Solution-Micro Scale Micro Sol 102 + Micro Set 101 Package Decal which is preferred
Just let it dry thoroughly. I had the same issue. I just let it dry and to test paint touch a piece that is not visible for example the roof in the interior
Where do you get your models from? I’ve been having a lot of trouble finding cars I like online through Amazon, etc. and also what is the skill level that you get I want to have as much stuff to do on my models as possible I want them to take forever.
the blue color is just the backing paper, the decals are on clear foil. think of it as regular stickers, you have an entire white background but you just peel the cut out sticker
Magnifique travail mon ami et bonne explication très beau modèle je suis abonné 👍 Magnificent work my friend and good explanation very nice model I enjoy watching your video this is a pleasure for the eyes I am subscribed of France 🇫🇷👍 And I would be proud to have you as subscriber too 👍
Can i ask a question - I always seem to have residue of decal mix ( Humbrol ) leftover on the car which i struggles to remove. Any tips on how to remove the residue. The residue could be mico sol setting solutions also.. sorry very new to this hobby Thanks in Advance
mr. yost would have any valve cover decal that say 454 ,427. 327. chvey one's you don't use thank you Mr. nobody oh by the way thank you for bringing up my name in one of your video thank you so much for that that means a lot to me your a 5 star guy at building model's and teaching trick's of the trade please keep building those models I wish more fellow's what you do thank's again
Colin D Sorry , Brudda ! 😂. If you had shot it with enamel cut with SunnySide lacquer thinner through an airbrush , you'd be sitting square . Only other suggestion I can make would be to purchase a food dehydrator with a thermostat and bake it for 24 hours at 105 degrees .....
@@ScaleModelTechniques Not a professional modeler by any means, but I am very meticulous. I did models in my 20s, and now in my 30s getting back into it with more patience and maturity. I do not have any of that equipment lol. I live in SoCal, and it seems to be curing pretty rapidly. Doing a Starsky and Hutch Torino, so the stripe is critical. Thanks for the quick responses.

Damn straight, he's emaculate with his craft.
1 year late but masking tape. Use a fine pointed stick to press the tape down and get easier lines to follow and cut it out with a scalpel or exacto
That paint job is gorgeous.

Wayne Wootton I do not . The majority of my decals come from Slixx ....

Great vid! Just found your channel today. What material do you use for that amazing chrome!?
Thank you ! Chrome work is done with Bare Metal Foil .....
Best Video out here! Simple and Easy. Just one question though, when you first put the decal on, does the blue color around the decal just disappear?
Simply put ... It does ....
the blue color is just the backing paper, the decals are on clear foil. think of it as regular stickers, you have an entire white background but you just peel the cut out sticker

I have found that Walters decal set solution works best for me . Try going over the area with a bit of Novus 2 on a piece of cotton flannel .
@@ScaleModelTechniques perfect, thanks for the advice. i will surely give that a try
I only ever tried warm water, will try hot.
Did that decal fit around the door handle?
can k2 clear be sprayed over decals?
I'm building a 51 yr old model and I reckon the decals are shot. I heard that leaving them in sunlight rejuvenates them, any ideas ol' man
How are you doing your trim? Is that foil or chrome pen etc? Thanks in advance, look great
Bare metal foil ....
I am looking for custom decals to create ? Thank you
I love building kits like this but I’m a plane guy so I build plane kits I am working on the revell b 17-G

Where can you get flannel
so helpful
Hey mate are car paints ( acrylic/enamals or 2pak ) ok to use on this plastic ?
Yes
Do you apply a clear over the decals?
Thanks! This is my first time building a model it does not look good...but anyways thanks!
What type of glue do you use
Do I use enamel based paint or acrylic paint for my Amy models
I prefer enamels myself ….
Mooie gemaakt strak werk
what kind of glue do you use on model door handle's and mirrow's please reply thank you
I use Bob Smith Industries medium viscosity super glue .
thank you so much mr. yost
Do you spray clear coat over top of decals?
He mentioned the paint was waxed so i don't think so (thinking that he wouldn't put clear over wax)
20 years ago, when I used to build, I cleared over my decals, do you ever do that?
Brian , I only clear over decals at a customer's request . Generally requested by the slot car nuts ! 😂
How long after applying clear coat (Testors enamel) should I let it cure before applying decals?
Colin D Applied with an airbrush , I'd give it 3-4 days . Spray cans ? It will have to sit for at least 2 weeks if not longer ....
@@ScaleModelTechniques I used a rattle can. Came out pretty good. I have some Microset too. 2 weeks? Holy s***
