Mr. Active, you're a big part of the reason I bought a status 160 about 4 months ago. The bike is perfect for me. Recently swapped out the shock for a fox dhx coil and roots don't exist anymore. The bike is so good. Really isn't too bad to climb but it's no hardtail. Definitely made for the descents. Having problems with the rear tire leaking sealant but other than that it's great. Also you should call us the active wheelie squad. Who doesn't love a good wheelie
Bikes tend to generate snobbish behavior in folks, you just provided accurate and honest feedback- what is on the bike works fine! Unless you're a pro in competitions, you don't need $500 brakes to slow and stop your bike. Also, 36 pounds (16.3 kg) is heavy for a new bike, but a fit guy like you isn't going to struggle because of a few pounds. It's the design of the bike that makes it feel heavier. That Polygon (15.5 kg) is only one or two pounds lighter! I've mentioned it before, but the 29" wheels just feel heavy to me, and the slack front makes it feel more "heavy" because it's not as nimble. It's a great bike, there is no bike that does everything perfectly, you have to pick the things you value the most, and get the bike that does that well. Good review Matty!
Wifey got me a Giant Trance Advanced 27.5 for our 10yr Anniversary. Been out 5 times so far. I got it in the beginning of july, hoping to get out with some friends on Saturday
Fat old Full Stache, it is like driving a 70’s caddy. It is bouncy and loose, but comfortable. Thinking of getting a downhill rig as well, we have been 6 times this year and it is wearing that bike out.
I have an eMTB for long climbing days (Cannondale Habit Neo) and am picking up one of these Status bikes next weekend for working up at the Ski Resort/Bike Park here in southern Utah. I appreciate your honest thoughts, keep up the great work.
I have the bike and after switching it to high its just overall better with no complaints. Still have to ride differently to avoid some pedal strikes, but even those 7 mm helped so so so so much and high setting makes this just better bike overall - no brainer about that. The bike is heavy and it takes a juice out of you on the climb, but if you work on yourself and your previous experience is oldschool trail HT with much shorter wheelbase and shorter reach, you will appreciate how much this bike can be stable in climbing overall. Just don't expect to charge on technical climbs - you ll have to walk these on your own very likely. What stands out for me about this bike is that it has a persona. It's not just another something being best and most tech and this and that. It's killing it everywhere it goes and buckets of fun for me. This bike just likes flowy jump trails. DH tracks at reasonable pace. Amateur enduro. It does it all for me.
I'm brand new to MTB. I have rented both the Fuel EX 8 and the Stump Comp Alloy, which is kind of the brother to your mullet bike. After some trail riding, and crashing both, I ordered the Stumpy. It looks like I'll have it this month. I'm super stoked to get out on the trails!
That’s a good review. Also being able to recognize what is right for one’s self. I have a 2021 status 160. I’m ordering another 160 frame set and making it a full 27.5 for the wife. She doesn’t like the mullet either.
You should try shorter cranks to avoid pedal strikes. I've got a friend who is 6 inches taller than me and both our bikes came with the same length cranks.
I am feeling the new name my friend .. Also I am glad to see you getting back into more MTB trail related videos they help put guus like me looking for knowledge .. Wheelies are cool , me myself I cannot do one 🤣 .. I still have my '21 Trek Marlin 7 and I also am in the middle of an upgrade of which I honestly am probably not ready for .. I wanted a Full Suspension bike, so I decided to start looking against tje better judgment of my friends amd other riders who offer me up advice, many say I am not ready for full suspension riding just yet .. I wanted a Trek Fuel EX 7 but they are still out of stock in Maryland .. As a matter of fact the local bike shop I deal with did not have any Fuel EX bikes in stock in and of its several stores they all were out of stock .. So I found a Scott Spark 950 in my size for $3285.00 at my LBS out the door so I put it on layaway at my LBS .. Well last week while making a payment the sales guys were joking and asked me did I want to cancel the layaway on the Scott I said yeah if you a got a Fuel EX in stock they said as a matter of fact we do .. We have a 2021 Fuel EX 9.8 GX (Carbon) in stock ($5499) .. I said naw it's out of my price range .. So the next week or so I did alot of pros/cons research and dialogue with other riders to get some better input to aid in my decision making .. So one rider made a good point you only live once, you cannot take any of this material stuff with you when you die so you might as well live life to the fullest and get the bike you really want and not settle .. I went back to my LBS they still did not have a projected or anticipated delivery date on any cheaper Fuel EX bikes so I cancelled the lay away on the Scott Spark and diverted all funding to the carbon Fuel EX which will be like $5900 out the door .. I will chip away at the layaway until I get the bike off .. I have alot to learn about Full Suspensions .. I will be selling my Marlin 7 back to the store to help with the down-payment funds on the Fuel EX .. I am so stoked and lost at the same time .. I have no idea as to how to even set up the suspension but I know the bike is flagship status and I wanted it .. Didn't need it but I wanted it .. Wish me good riding on it my friend once I get it off layaway and wish me improved riding skills as well and lastly more indepth knowledge on the area of Full Suspension MTB'ing 😉
Just moved back to Denver from Arkansas. Hope to see ya out on the trail. Living in highlands ranch so I’m looking for a good road bike too. Love my MNT Bike, but it SUCKS on pavement.
How tall are you, and how did that fit you? I am 5'-7" 166lbs and exactly between S2 and S3. I used to ride a 2005 Specialized Epic S Works medium and felt it was a bit big (longer top tube) for me. Now, I ride a Scott Spark RC medium, which fits me perfectly. I am not crazy about jumps and such but interested in some trials and such in addition to regular trail use. By the way, I have shorter arms but a bit longer upper body. I am about to pick up an S3 this week, but I start questioning if S3 is the right size for me. Any advice?
I enjoyed the review, but for me climbing is paramount to where and how I like to ride. I’m buying my first full suspension after riding hardtail XC for the last four years… I’m stuck between the Polygon Vander T7 and the Marin Rift Zone 27.5 2… any thoughts?
I don’t have any experience with the polygon vander but the rift zone is definitely an awesome bike! I don’t think you would be disappointed with the rift zone!
Im curious about this bike and whether Polygon helped design it, or they provide the frame to Specialised? Any direct comparison on its design and ride similarities, outside of the weight? Think id prefer the Siskiu d6. They look almost the same in design
for a taller guy .. 6'4 .. would you recommend this status.. or a X caliber or roscoe? Im actually looking to sell my status.. not sure i like the mullet.. even tho its a great bike
I would go with a Roscoe since it’s more trail ready and easier to handle. I’m not really a fan of the mullet anymore either especially if there’s a lot of climbing
You should definitely get out to Trestle, that will be the Status's happy place, that bike was basically made for park riding. I ride a Ripmo AF, pedals very efficiently, but is very heavy, so good tech climber, but wears you out on long climbs. On the descents it's an absolute speed demon, the faster you go the better it feels. Jumping wise, it's stable and easy to jump, though maybe not as poppy as some other bikes, the suspension tuning with the DVO suspension is a balance of poppy and planted.

Matty Active, I 2nd on the Active Wheelie Squad and 1st on Active Mullet. I know you sold your bike, but I am still getting one now due to sales.

I just ordered mine.
I'll be taking it to Snowshoe and any other parks I can find on the east coast

One vote for "Active Fam!" . I'm still rocking the Trek Roscoe 7, still loving it. Fits the riding I do

Diamondback Catch 2, not so slack but a size medium with 27.5x2.8 tires comes in at 29lbs with pedals so almost could consider it light.
I dig the new channel name! Also you were PINNED on that rock slab intro clip!

Polygon D5 for me. I had a department store bike before this so this machine is awesome for me.

2013 Steel Kona Honzo hardtail with 160 pike..killer bike
YO that opening was some chuuuunky riding then that wild slab.
I have a trek marlin 4 and I’m thinking of upgrading to the status because my friend let me ride his and it felt so good on jumps
been here since marlin 6. Keep up the grind.

Matty's Maniacs?
Nice hat! Where did you get that, I want one!
Thanks! I got it from my local bike shop
I’m looking into a specialized stump jumper or fuel EX for my full suspension bike (still on a Hardtail roscoe 7) by the way my name is Matt also haha
Nice! 🤙🏾
I have had a 21 Trek Fuel EX5 and now a 21 Stumpjumper Comp Alloy. For me, the stumpy is a much better riding bike. Much prefer the stumpy geo!
@@chadhertz4092 Good information, The reason I’m interested in the stumpjumper is I know somebody who has one and likes it very much!
@@mtbridersanonymous9152 I love my Stumpy
@@chadhertz4092 the stumpy comp also has way better suspension
How much $$$ was the 2021 Status?
$2,699
Thanks, Matty. Specialized has the 2022 on sale now for $2,250 so am considering.
Scott genius is my ride
Trek Fuel ex 5 for me
Santa Cruz Chameleon 27.5+

This thing is also just way prettier than the stumpy...
