  • I loved the Status 160 bargain bomber, but is its shorter travel brother even more fun for the money? See the details and then shred the loam with me to find out.

    Compared to how prices have rocketed sky high in recent years I think Guy was trying to say this bike is‘relatively’ affordable option compared to many bikes

    Remember when the original Specialized Big Hit came out, 24“ mullet, and the frameset with a. Fox Vanilla shock was.... £350rrp!? Halcyon days!

    I too bought my first bike with money from my Saturday job. For those interested it was a Raleigh Peak and I loved it!

    Great review. Can you talk a little more about how it compares to the 160 version you had previously?

    Battered crank arms tells me that we need bb's to be a little higher, maybe it's a UK rocky trails thing, but the amount of wrecked crank arms and bent pedal axles I see is nuts.
    DISCLAIMER... A not particularly small percentage of these issues are due to riders not running enough pressure in the shock.

    Wtf
    I know that "pocket money" to many of us meant 30p for a mars bar
    BUT...
    no excuse for giving Guy grief for the description. Bearing in mind where the bike industry is (often disappeared up its own posterior) this is a cracking bike at sensible money.
    Give the man a break and enjoy the fact that this is one place celebrating a good value bike

      Thanks Alex, but those comments are fair enough. I miss communicated the whole ‘someone actually bought this with their pocket/part time job money’ story and that made me sound like a complete tw@t. Good news is that you can expect a series of tests of much more affordable bikes on here and MBR.co.uk very shortly

    you convinced me again :-) I still own 26" trek ex, which I changed to a mullet with 27 in the front, it is awesome bike 2011 MY carbon v 9.7, well but I need to get a 2.nd bike to ride with my son, so at this price, no wonder... As already mentioned below Big Hit was 26/24" so this concept is nothing new, I always liked it. I still own my HT custom welded frame from 90' had this option too ( 2 Vbrakes nests for 26 or 24! ) I rode once 29" and I felt like Lance in the Tour the France. But lets try for one 29" wheel. Meanwhile what is the weight of the bike. You mentioned 15.3 kg is that true? And by the way, do you count No. of your reviews :-)

    I just got this bike today because it was really cheap but I think I made the wrong choice in size since Im 5"8 and got an S3 140mm but I don't really ride DH trails and my focus is more on green to blue trails should I return it and get the S2. I feel that it will put me in a better climbing position the s2 seems to have a reach or a regular trial bike with a bit longer wheelbase. I would really appreciate any poters you have. Thank you!!!

    Hi great review as always: considering a status 140 or top fuel 8 , I don’t get a chance to ride much but like jibbing about but have read the status is a bit of a tank/ heavy , would appreciate any advice thanks

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Status is definitely more of a tank but great for steady up, party down riding. Fuel Ex is more of a fun time most of the time all rounder

    Could you tell me if the 160 is ideal for road and every day use, would it be a comfortable ride? I'm not really an extreme rider, i just genuinely like the look of it and as its quite cheap now i was thinking of buying one

    Great video, great channel and a great bike .... but you must orbit different social / financial circles to me if the status is pocket money? The RRP of the 140 is £2600, I know Specialised and the big online retailers are discounting heavily at the moment and looking around it seems you can pick a Status up currently for around £1999 - I am aware of the very expensive price of many full sus bikes and the Status is a lot less but circa £2k pocket money, wow

      Massive apologies, I can see how that phrase comes across as hugely insensitive. What I had in my head was that this actual bike was genuinely being sold on to a local lad who’d saved up his pocket money/weekend job pay and a reward for getting his exam results - but even then he got it at a significantly reduced price from Specialized. I didn’t explain that properly at all so I’ll pull the video now and re edit. Thanks for making me aware, I’ll try not be be a complete accidental tw@t again.

    Whats better though, the 140 or the 160?

    • @m.r.reeceabob8480
      @m.r.reeceabob8480 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depends on what you're riding. If you're riding easier trails and doing a lot more climbing, or even doing intermediate trails and some advanced trails then 140 will be better. You'll want 160 if you're going to downhill bike parks, not doing too much climbing, and are doing mainly advanced downhill/enduro trails.

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry for delay chief. Both super confident bikes and great to ride but if you're riding park then there's always a chance you'll wreck it and in that case Specialized have a fantastic reputation for looking after their customers. Planet X have just changed hands though so not sure what their customer services set up is like ATMO

    Guy, I have always loved your content but I have to say that I think you have dropped the ball with this one. Frankly, describing a £2000 bike as 'pocket money' is bloody insensitive in the current economical climate in the UK and shows that you are maybe out of touch with the reality vast amounts of people are currently experiencing. A very poor choice of words.

      you seem overly sensitive. Obviously to someone who has nothing, 20 is a lot, why not complain about every single bike over 20? In comparison to other mtb's this is pocket money.
