How in TF is Angel just getting her first one? This is like finding a great place to eat and keeping it to yourself.
Got a Hy-Road earlier this year and man this ball is wonderful compliment to the Phaze 2. Shot personal best high game and series with this ball 2 weeks ago (289, 720 set). I love how smooth it can roll and very controllable it is.
If they are crazy to discontinue this ball, I am stashing at least 1-2 of these.
I had been so close to getting a Hy-Road I don't know how many times. Each time I fell victim to one of the new sexy releases just like Luke mentions in the video. The only reason why I have a Hy-Road now is because that was my choice to replace the Spectre (which I loved, 300 last game of the first set out of the box!). After I drilled up the Hy-Road, I'm absolutely kicking myself for not drilling one up when I came back to bowling in 2017. The Hy-Road may not always be the right answer, but it's amazing the variety of conditions that it works so well on.
After finally buying a Hy-Road I can say I slept on this ball. Even on a fresh house shot, it did well. Shot a 216 straight out of the box. 4x4x1 layout.
I said this to my pro shop op today. It's funny how much we talk and get excited about the brand new ultra strong stuff. But at the end of the day that's good for a game/half (depending on your environment) and then you get into those middle-lane balls that are far more about YOU delivering well than the ball making up for you until it starts to screw you up.
However much we like the ultra strong balls, we end up basing most of what we do off the middle-road stuff that's safe and easy to control, reliable, consistent.
Great as usual Luke.
Nice. All this is true. I have never own a hy road because I have a crossroad that fills that space in my line up, but vids like this does make me want to go out and just get stuff like hy road, phase 2, and marvel p. You don't want to go through life and never through these legendary balls
Perhaps a Hy-Road Pearl report card? :D
Definitely one of the greatest ever made - and a great compliment to possibly the greatest ball of all time, the Purple Hammer
Still use my HyRoad Pearl on THS. It is probably the greatest regular league ball ever made.
I miss my Hyroad.....100% need to get another one drilled up.
Got my first Hyroad late last year. Works great and I plan on getting more.
The HyRoad was my first ball... and I still use it! It is my bench mark ball. It's just super reliable. I currently have 2 HyRoads and plan on getting 2 more
I really like that the Hyroad and Hyroad pearl are 2 piece balls, just weight block and cover stock, and sells for around $120 bucks. I wish Storm would do this with other balls.
Anything from the Hy-Road line will have you bowling like Belmo!! Hy-Road OG is flat out an Infinity Stone
Yes! Thank you for making this video 😎
Better than any car air freshener on the market.
Isn’t that the case with all Storm balls? My tropical from 4yrs ago still smells fresh
When will a “best storm scents” video come out?
Just ordered one a day or two ago, very excited to see how it rolls for me
I will be getting a hy road for this upcoming season can't wait to see what it will do for me. Closing in on 200 avg.
Damn right no one makes anything better
With many lane surfaces getting older, I am surprised the high RG, high diff balls aren't getting more love. Storm Hy-Road and Motiv Supra line are incredible in a lot of houses. They may not be great on the 20:1 walled houses, but they absolutely shred the more blended house shots when the bigger balls struggle.
If you'd believe it I'm in a wood lane house with a very low-volume shot. My choice of balls is limited heavily by this. My dark code at 4k is all but entirely useless barely making it past 15 before it has lost all energy, my Helios doesn't even go in the bag with me.
Polished/compounded and low-friction responsive balls are basically all I can take and reliably play.
@@denmanfite3156 Makes sense. Your situation is likely on the extreme side of things with wood lanes being all but extinct in many areas. But even many synthetic houses are reaching 20 years old and if there has been a decent amount of plane play over the years then the fronts and mids WILL hook even on higher volume patterns.
Won my fist tournament with a two year old hy road a couple weeks ago. Very reliable
Hy-road pear next?
Love mine !
Gonna be going dumpster diving for a NIB shiny one. Nobody got time for the extra work to be doing a full on resurface from 4K Fast to shine.
Use Trucut from CTD, puts the grit on the pad onto the ball surface!
@@denmanfite3156 thanks for the advice. I used to be on staff with CTD, so I already know that.
Can't tell from the video. Did you grow a GOATee Luke?
Completely agree about the "lack of sexy" remark. These things are like the Toyota Camrys of the bowling world. They are incredibly reliable and a lot of bang for your buck, but they're just old and boring.
I'm not a marketing guy, but if I were at Storm, I'd really be pushing for some kind of HyRoad refresh. Maybe offer some different colors and scents, or give it another name and keep the colors.
Either way, the vets know what this thing can do, but Storm could do a lot more to get the newcomers interested in it.
I didn’t like this ball at first
Wasn’t doing anything for me. After I changed the surface to 2000 I can’t miss with this ball. Average went from 190 to 225 with this ball. Just ordered me another one
I just sanded my old og hy-road to the 4k fast finish to give it some new life and could it be...better?
I did this with my old hyroad about 3 years ago. It was still great just less snappy.
4k "fast" likes oil and without it you may see the ball chug and waste time. Be prepared to put whatever top coat you preferred back on the ball if necessary.
I had my old hy-road pearl sanded to 1000 grit from the 1500 grit and then repolished and that took some of the snappy angular movement out. works much better for me!
Filthier than a gas station bathroom ...lmao, suprised these higher rg balls don't get more play kind of like my hustle pow these are sleepers that do work. great video Luke.
Another great video
I'll never understand why the Hy-Road is still in circulation while the Ultimate Inferno isn't. I mean the Hy-Road is every bit as good as the Ultimate Inferno, but to me the Ultimate Inferno will always be the best resin ball I will ever throw.
Yeah a lot of the Brunswick stuff from that time period could and still should be here, along with stuff like the Red Zone, Ultra Zone, etc. They made some absolute bangers in the 00s
I love the report card videos. Any chance of seeing a Track legion pearl to be reviewed? :D
Nope, I'm a Storm staffer, so just Storm, Roto Grip, and 900 Global reviews for me!
possibly the most important ball in bowling history
Question, How does the hy-road react on oily lanes?
Not great, it's a medium to light oil ball, so it's not going to do much on oily conditions
2.52 0.58 nothing has ever been a 16 pound hyroad but a 16 pound hyroad
Yeah the numbers go all over the place in the different weights
I recently got a Phaze 2, and it compliments my IQ Tour perfectly. I’m a fan of all the classics. marvel Pearl is still the goat for me. But my question is where would the HyRoad and HyRoad Pearl fit in and when would I go to them? My current tournament arsenal is:
1) proton Physix
2) dark code
3) Phaze 2
4) IQ Tour
5) Hustle camo
6) spare ball
Hyroad and Hyroad Pearl would be kind of sideways or slightly down from the IQ Tour, but above the Hustle Camo still. When the IQ Tour starts getting a little early, or when you have to get too far left after you're done with the Phaze 2, the IQ Tour doesn't like a ton of angle so that's when you'd go Hyroad
@@LukeRosdahl thanks for the reply. I’m gonna try and put the Hy Road Pearl behind the tour. Big fan of all your videos, keep up the good work.
Yup, thanks! Sorry it took so long getting back to you, this comment slipped through the cracks somehow. If you ever don't hear from me again within a couple days, ping me again because YT is kind of sketchy sometimes
I need to check out the Hy Road... also-
Why havent I noticed the Storm belt before? #fash on
Yeah it's the new C4 belt, it's popped up in a couple videos recently, can get it on Storm's website.
Question, do you think the color insert of a bowling ball effects ball reaction? I remember you saying awhile back how the color of a ball does impact the reaction which i agree with, but what about the color of the inserts? I could be crazy but I've experienced twice now where a ball I throw turns into a completely new ball with insert changes. I got a new Hustle Ink with white inserts years ago, absolutely hated it, changed it to black inserts and now its the first ball I take everywhere. The opposite happened with my Hyroad. Loved the ball when I got it, changed inserts from clear to black, and now its become uncontrollable and hard to use. Am I crazy??
I don’t think grips can change the ball reaction, but they could change your release. Did you change grip sizes or get a different style grip?
@@force8819 For my Hustle Ink I went from lifts to oval inserts so I guess that could be a factor. My Hyroad though, things were pretty much the same so idk what's really going on there. I'm probably just ass at bowling
I think it can be an optics thing, it can be distracting and throw your perception of the ball reaction off and put you in the wrong area of the lane, or make the ball look like it's doing something it isn't. Changing insert types like you said from lifts to ovals would obviously change things, but also if you're replacing worn out grips with new ones, that will also help you create different ball motion too as you're likely not throwing it great with the worn out grips.
You ever throw a HyRoad with some surface? Just wondering how that would look vs the typical polish people like with it.
Not with any real surface, I've knocked the shine off before, but then it kind of fights itself because the core wants to be long while the cover wants to hook more. I think this is why the stronger hyroads have always been hit and miss. Hyroad Solid was terrible, the Nano was pretty solid actually, the All Road was average, and the Hyroad Max was meh. You can do it, I just think they generally prefer or look best with a little shine.
Also, this video is ~5 minutes of truth.
What balls do you think it fits between from todays current line??
It's a step up from like the Hustles, Burners, and Electrify's, a step sideways from the Hyped's, and a step down from the Phaze 3 and Zen
Luke, I'm okay with you going to Bros BBQ but please don't go to Holy Moly Donut Shop.
How funny would it be if USBC came out and banned it lol.
Not funny at all for people that have more than 1 stashed
Couldn't agree more, that would annoying. It's so GOAT that even USBC can't touch it lol.
I have ten I buy two new ones every year one I drill the other lives untouched lol
Wouldn't be surprised.
Do you wear non-bowling shoes/sneakers when you bowl? If so, what type?
Yeah, Under Armor Hovr. I don't slide, so no reason to wear bowling shoes.
