I'm in Sacramento have gone through over 100 jacaranda seedlings and so for only got one to germinate and after 3 weeks is still like a 1/16in little green leaf. My RP seedings though have taken off in the same three weeks and I got 7 of out of 10 to germinate. In paper it germinated in like 4 days. Seeding soil 7 days. Not sure how I'll get through winters here maybe use those mini charcoal grills with hot embers on under the tree on nights it gets under 38.

I ordered a red Royal Poinciana. It should be arriving in about a week. How far from the house foundation should it be planted? Thanks for your videos.

@@JohnPritzlaff she grows strong and healthy. She has her own beauty which is so mystical aura for me. Still doent have much orange flowers like in this vid's poster image, but the branches already create the umbrella effect: wide and dense. Have photo album of her year-to-year but youtube doesnt like external link i guess

I have to Apologize to Shamus. I saw one of your videos over 1/2 yr. ago I think it was about Royal Poinciana Trees in Arizona, But I had a Senior Moment, my Brain was thinking African Tulip Tree and The African Tulip Tree Is The One Considered an Invasive & Unwanted Tree, especially by Coffee Farmers here in Kona. Sorry about my addle brain confusion. You Are Awesome!

Great video. I know this is an older post, but would you happen to know why my Poinciana tree is growing wide, instead of growing tall. its about 2 yrs. old and about 6 ft. real healthy just not growing height-wise. Thanks if you read this.

Have a 28 year old delonix which has never flowered in Nicosia Cyprus in the Mediterranean with temps in the 40s in summer and down to around 2C inwinter with an occasional frost.. I have many tropical trees in my subtropical garden but many do not flower for some reason in my garden in a 10a zone namely delonix, spathodea, brachychiton acerifolia, cassia fistula and javanica. What am I doing wrong. They are south facing full sun, slightly alkaline soil, good drainage. I have tried fertilizing with high P and K fertilizer, I have stressed the plant by cutting back watering just before the leaves come out but to no avail. The trees are massive, green healthy but no flowers. Any suggestions how I can induce flowering. By the way, they are just coming out of this years dormancy, they lost their leaves over winter and now its 40C and new ones are coming out. Any ideas will be most w elcome

Would it be possible to keep a Poinciana under 12 feet via pruning yet encourage it to still blossom? Thanks!

I own a rare pink blossom version of this that we planted from a seed. This tree is quite invasive in some areas. But beautiful nontheless

So you scoop up your flood irigation water too?
Great video as always. My mango trees from you are blowing up right now. I would love to see a video on how/if I should be pruning them a certain way.
Can't wait to get out to the new location in a few weeks!

Hi Shamus, love the vids.. Question: Will other fruit trees get stunted if they’re grown somewhat close to the out edge of the canopy of a poinciana? Maybe 12 to 15 ft away from the base of the tree? I have some figs and Barbados cherries that are in the vicinity of the only location that I can plant a poinciana I was given. Thanks!

What is the lifespan of Royal poincinana, how many years Can they survive?

  • @richardgreene5119

Beautiful poinciana & presentation, Sir Shamus! How do you get the branches pointed upward? My poinciana tends to grow with branches that droop as they elongate.
    1) PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON EARLY POINCIANA TRAINING AS IT GROWS & PRUNING.
    2) ALSO ADDRESS CIRCUMSTANCE WHERE SHADE OF OAK TREE PREVENTS FULL SUN, CAUSING ONE SIDE OF POINCIANA TO GROW MORE TOWARDS ONE DIRECTION.
