Callen is someone I can take a hard pass on as a comedian to be honest. Never found anything funny or Interesting about him. This is the most he's interested me.
Steve is one of the most ethical, if not the most ethical hunters there is. And watching Joe listen to him along the hunt and REALLY taking it in on what to do is awesome. It really shows how open minded Joe is to someone that is an absolute master of what he does. Kudos to ALL here!!!
When I heard that I thought the exact same thing. Did he actually know that Joe would essentially educate a few million folks about the ethics of hunting? Whatever the answer, it was work well done!
I’ve heard joe talk about hunting on his podcast for years and didn’t know that he started on meat eater. Really cool to see the origin of his hunting career. Couldn’t ask for a better teacher for his first time!

@@nathank6468 plenty of high fence operations in Texas. Not saying your wrong, but time will tell if he’s going to put in the work himself or if he’ll pay for someone else to do the work. Patterning a deer...knowing the land...that takes time.
They could have edited this to make it look like an immediate one shot, one kill hunt but showing what actually happened gave me so much extra respect.
My favorite part of this episode was Steve's child-like excitement at Joe's first kill. He was almost giddy, "I can't believe it, you dropped him! You dropped him!" Almost like when Joe called Conor dropping Aldo, it was beautiful. Clearly this is what Steve was born to do- and I don't just mean hunting, I mean teaching others and bringing them into the tribe. I wish I could find someone like him to teach me.
Steven just wanted to thank you. Went out solo hunting for whitetail in MN for the first time in my life this last fall because of your show. Didn't get anything, but it was such a valuable experience doing the research to prepare for it. I got miles of hiking in and next year I am hungrier than ever for my first deer. Thank you for inspiring me.
This is only a suggestion, I'm sure you're well versed and have studied your strategy.... Try going out a few months before season starts and scout for signs (tracks, scrapes, rubs). If you know the deers pattern before hand it can pay dividends once season starts. Best of luck!

Depending on your specific hunting location, you may want to invest in some binoculars if you have wide open terrain but if you're keeping up with the MEATEATER show then you'll be able to pick up lots of helpful info.

I heard him say on a Podcast once, when he goes Bow hunting, he wont talk for days. For some one as tough as Joe to see him get emotional after having to shoot it again, just shows his humanity. This is how all Hunting should be done!
Being a hunter myself in my younger days I have an enormous respect for the methods that Steve is using with both Bryan and Joe. It isn't about the killing it's all about the experience of being out there and tuning yourself into the world around you. I could go for days without firing off a shot or not taking the shot because the animal touched something deep inside me. I wish that I was young enough and able enough to be out there again.
I've been a fan of Joe Rogan since News Radio days. As a lifelong Montanan, I now have an ever greater respect for Joe. Thanks for taking the time to learn, having respect the hunt and demonstrating the humility we all should when learning something new. Great show!

As much as I’ve watched JRE over the YEARS I can truly say I’ve never seen this. Heard stories. Seen clips. But never sat down and watched until now. So refreshing to see Joe like this. New to the hunting scene. Young. Complaining about walking 7 hours instead of bragging to Tom and Joey😂

Watching joe Rogans eyes start to tear up hits home. The emotions that fill you when you shoot something so big for the first time really made this episode special. Something that he’s clearly waited a long time to do. I’m sure he will cherish that moment forever.

Joe rogan is a scholar with his podcast and interviews , a warrior with his many years in martial arts , and hes an outdoors man as well true inspiration.
I have followed both men in their respective careers for quite a while, and after enjoying this incredible video, I have so much more respect for both guys despite having a lot to begin with. Rogan took this experience as serious as any of Steve's guests; he more than paid his dues & put in a genuine effort to earn his opportunity & a chance to be successful; and perhaps most impressive, he dropped his first buck with a single shot having NEVER hunted before, like he was a seasoned hunter & experienced marksman. Friggin' impressive! And Steve held another masterclass in pretty much every aspect of what it takes to be a successful hunter, & why he is so damn good at what he does. And he ain't done done - there's a magnificent meal of venison to be had!

This is one of my favorite parts of MeatEater series. Taking someone who’s never been out before and they are taking it like a kid on his first hunt. They’re having fun and taking everything in, the emotions Joe & The Kid showed in their harvests remind me of the first time I went and the first time I took someone deer hunting. Amazing adventure they got to go on, as opposed to sitting on a feeder in Texas 😁

As a hunter that was awesome to watch you can see the emotion in his eyes when he's spined the buck. That can freak some people out but he took it like a man the funniest thing about the whole video was watching him with his hat on backwards the whole second day hunt
@Sosa Scar - I guess you mean about the buck overnight? Oki, firstly light would have been fading and butchering in the field takes time, so you gotta leave it out there sometimes. In those areas though, leaving a dead animal on the ground overnight subjects it to potentially being attended to by coyotes, wolves and bears. You don't want to lose your animal to predators, so you string it out of reach until you can get back to it.
This is the third of these videos with Joe and Bryan I've seen so far. I'm halfway thru this episode and so far, in 3 hunting trips, they have bagged one turkey. I'm really starting to doubt the prowess of the host guy.

You guys should start a first buck series and take new hunters out to get their first animal in a hunt. I love these new hunter episodes and would love to see more. Being new myself its great to watch

I have followed both men in their respective careers for quite a while, and after enjoying this incredible video, I have so much more respect for both guys despite having a lot to begin with. Rogan took this experience as serious as any of Steve's guests; he more than paid his dues & put in a genuine effort to earn his opportunity & a chance to be successful; and perhaps most impressive, he dropped his first buck with a single shot having NEVER hunted before, like he was a seasoned hunter & experienced marksman. Friggin' impressive! And Steve held another masterclass in pretty much every aspect of what it takes to be a successful hunter, & why he is so damn good at what he does. And he ain't done done - there's a magnificent meal of venison to be had!
When is part two man? Love these episodes with them. Love em all. But it's cool to see this

This is one of my favorite parts of MeatEater series. Taking someone who’s never been out before and they are taking it like a kid on his first hunt. They’re having fun and taking everything in, the emotions Joe & The Kid showed in their harvests remind me of the first time I went and the first time I took someone deer hunting. Amazing adventure they got to go on, as opposed to sitting on a feeder in Texas 😁

As a hunter that was awesome to watch you can see the emotion in his eyes when he's spined the buck. That can freak some people out but he took it like a man the funniest thing about the whole video was watching him with his hat on backwards the whole second day hunt
@Sosa Scar - I guess you mean about the buck overnight? Oki, firstly light would have been fading and butchering in the field takes time, so you gotta leave it out there sometimes. In those areas though, leaving a dead animal on the ground overnight subjects it to potentially being attended to by coyotes, wolves and bears. You don't want to lose your animal to predators, so you string it out of reach until you can get back to it.
Showing Joe's face after he killed the buck was a powerful moment. You could see the emotion welling up inside him from taking his first kill.
This wasn’t his first kill maybe on that land Joe has been hunting for 8-10 years he always goes after elk and moose
