Now if you load your rifle right
And if you fix your bayonet so
And if you kill that man my friend
The one we call the foe
And if you do it often lad
And if you do it right
You'll be a hero overnight
You'll save your country from her plight
Remember God is always right
If you survive to see the sight
A friend now greeting foe
No you won't believe in If anymore
It's an illusion
It's an illusion
No you won't believe in If anymore
If is for children
If is for children
Building daydreams
If I knew then what I know now
(I thought I did you know somehow)
If I could have the time again
I'd take the sunshine leave the rain
If only time would trickle slow
Like rain that melts the fallen snow
If only Lord if only
If only Lord if only
Oh I don't believe in If anymore
It's an illusion
It's an illusion
No I don't believe in If anymore
If is for children
If is for children
Building daydreams
No I don't believe in If anymore
It's an illusion
It's an illusion
No I don't believe in If anymore
If is for children
If is for children
Building daydreams

This Amazing Man Made My Dying Father’s Dream Come True ! After Writing Telling Him My Father Was A Massive Fan, He Wrote To My Dad, Gave Him Videos, Signed Pics & The Letter Was Amazingly Thoughtful. My Dad Was 46 & I Was 17. He Told My Dad To Watch The Des O’Conner Show & Changed His New Song For My Dad’s Favourite, The Last Farewell. My Dad Was Over The Moon. That Was 1988 & I Understand Why My Dad Loved Him So Much. R.I.P The Both Of You’s !!!
That´s amazing, must´ve been so surreal!
😢 Wow same as my Dad on his deathbed 1993 pancreatic cancer...The Last Farewell was MY Dad's favorite all time song too! He had a window room in the hospital and there WAS a ship rigged and waiting in the harbour at dawn's early light and my Dad slipped away peacefully. Peace 2 U from just another human who knows the unparalleled heartbreak of losing a parent!😢
What a story about your father. What a gentleman Whittaker.
That's just amazing. A friend of mine asked John Prine to ring her friend who was in a Hospice, and he spent an hour talking to him. There are some amazing people out there.
So fine singer and man❤❤❤❤my father love him so much to and all his songs❤❤😢😢My father padt away in 1997😢😢❤❤❤❤
This is a shout out to all the children that had to listen to this and now come back to it as adults xxxx
Me 🙋🏻♂️
I'm one of those kids! So glad I've stumbled across him again as an adult.
Respect...Total Class.
yes i know.......but this is magnifidant...
54 yr old kid here
My dad was a big fan of Roger , when I was a young boy , now I'm grown I totally get why. What a talent.
I grew up with this music, and loved it. Perry como, Dean martin, Jim reeves, so many . !!!
Dude....my dad used to play this every Sunday after church when I was a kid😂😂. Guess it got him hyper for the Packers game🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Richest voice - a treasure
Same here, now my dad's gone I inherited his Rodger Whittaker albums. Brings back good memories.
A
Came to listen to Roger’s wonderful voice after reading he passed away today😢😢😢. Saw him in Calgary in the 80s and just marvelled at how easy and soothing his voice was …
Rest in Peace dear Mr. Whittaker, your music will live on 🙏🏼 💕 God bless 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 ❤️
Rip 🙏 🕊
I'm here to for the same reason, Roger's velvet voice was so distinctive
My parents used to play his music while we were growing up. My dad passed a few weeks ago. His voice is beautiful and brings back my childhood😢❤
@@alesakline1168Mine did as well. I listened to country music and still do. However, even in my youths if I heard other music I liked I would listen to it and not be embarrassed when my friends found out. I'm glad my foster parents were fans of his because I also became one in the 70s. Still today at 65 country music changed but I don't call today's country, country at all. Music like Roger's Whittaker never changed from when I was young. So that's still my go to music.
Ditto here as well. Mom LOVED Roger Whittaker. Dad owned a record store back in the day, so we had all of his records. It’s been too many years since I’ve listened to him. His voice is so relaxing and soothing. God speed, Roger!
To all the supposed singers of 2023, listen to Roger and learn your trade. Roger is the best... It is a pleasure to listen to him. No need for echo or reverb, just a pure melodic voice.
The guy is super talented, singing whistling he is incredible, today's artists should look at Roger to see how he performs
Just don’t produce anything like the talent roger had …bye roger loved your beautiful songs.
Unbelievable talent r I p Rodger said day today
A golden voice is stilled. His voice haunts me. Rest In Peace and thank you for your music.
Yawn
Roger died yesterday 😢... Thanks for the wonderful music...RIP🙏🏾
Such good memories. Close my eyes and i see my grandparents dancing to this at their 50 year anniversary. Last time they ever danced. R.I.P.
R.I.P. Roger Whittaker - your music will never died ❤
A piece of my 1970s childhood has left the house. Thanks for all the great songs. Farewell Mr Whittaker.
Look at how great this guy sings live. Sorely missing with today's performers.
Miss talent like Roger these days...he used to talk about music, all these screamers and agents are interested in these days is squawking into a microphone and charging millions for no talent after being promoted to teenagers by C lever celebs on the tv shows and saddly our kids fall for it... sad news for music these days!
@@eviled2006 super wrong statement, there are better singers in violent metal like Saetia, it's what people choose to listen to
Sing? It felt more like a spoken word performance.
Well people liking and merit may not always coincide.@@ericcotter1984
The era when a handful of uniquely talented artists truly entertained and had some charisma an example also would be Shirley Bassey ...great songs at their peak great performances
Farewell, Roger Whittaker. Bleibst unvergesslich. Danke.

My dad RIP used to love Roger Whittaker and when I was a kid I'd hear many of his songs. Life on Mars which filled me with nostalgia at the brilliant soundtrack brought me here only to find out that Roger passed away in September 2023. RIP you good sir!
My dad loved Roger Whittaker, and his songs bring back such memories. What a beautiful voice.
Sad to know this gentleman troubadour has died. I remember him as a kid and, though I wasn’t a fan, I knew his songs made an impact with many as evidenced by the number of albums his music sold. R.I.P.
I simply adore his unusual songs, vocal talent and interpretation . Timeless british music
Me too.
It's English music.
I live in America. Since my childhood days country is my all time favorite, at least classic country. I love British and Irish as well. Thanks to TH-cam I can listen to the music I like when I want. I don't want some paid person playing music I don't want to hear.
Unbelieveably beautiful. Thank you Roger! I go on singing your songs!
It does not get better than this! The greatest of the singers of the last decades are getting very slim now! Awesome classic song by a great artist!
What a performance, even as a teen we respected him, warm voice but the most important the message inside his songs.Thanks,Mr. Whittaker, you gave the world som much beautiful.
Perhaps the best male singing voice of all times?
My Mum introduced me to Roger Whitaker in 1980 something. I wore his record out years ago and am thrilled to find him here. Thank you!
My grandma could not get enough of him
Wonderful music, thank you, Roger Whittaker!!
I know his music since my childhood, and i love it since then. Also my parents loved him.
He also sang in German, some very pleasant songs, so he is very famous here. From Austria.🇦🇹
R. I. P. Roger another beautifull voice gone to join God's choir. Died 13/09/23, buried 16 / 09 & we didn't know till the 19th. It should have been headline news on the day. Such a great talent world wide.
Awesome song by an artist that can paint with words.
Rest in piece Mr. Whittaker! I wish I would have seen him! Greatest singer ever! He lived a great live! 87, wow!
One of the very best! So sad to hear he's passed...

R.I.P Roger, thank you for the music
This is my favorite 😍 I use to replay this over and over on my record player❤
Loved Roger W in 1969 when I first migrated to Montreal. 50+ years later when I hear his songs it reminds me of that Summer and the years that followed. ❤
I first heard this song in Montreal in the winter of '71 - '72. Lasting memory for sure.
Oh man... that voice!!! Like my mom used to say "that lowers my tampon in my shoes". What a guy!
whistle was my thing with roger i have never heard anyone who could beat him and im 63 now
What an amazing voice Roger had, it cannot be disputed, & a man of his times, a time we’ve forgotten.

My father was the Rodger of Zambia. Not for his voice but the way he acted. Big game hunter farmer pioneer and this was his favourite song
RIP Roger. Thanks for all of the great music.
Thank you for the music Roger RIP
Keep coming back to this one. It has a wisdom in it just as true today as the first time I heard Roger sing it on the radio in the 70's.
Superb dramatic storytelling and beautiful melody ....i loved it when it was first released and it stands the test of time
This must be one of the most beautiful songs ever released but with a powerful message
I've got this playing on a loop it says so much to a veteran 😭 😭 😭 😞
R.I.P Roger you're missed
Im not a religious man but if there is a heaven you'll be singing with the Angels 😇💞
RIP Roger, thank you for your beautiful songs.
I fell in love with his voice and songs during high school. The first record I bought with my own money after I started working was one of his. (Yes, I am that old) The second record was a compilation of him, Nana Mouskouri, and Demis Roussos.

R.I.P. Roger was a big star in Germany.

A truly great voice.
My late dad and Roger where at the same university of Capetown. According to my dad he would take his guitar and start to sing after the dance was over!!
❤when I hear Roger he remembers me at my dad. My father was a big fan of his music. ❤
Fabulous song sung by a great singer from the days when everyone looked smart...
And could sing. Lol
And could sing. Lol
Beautiful voice and singing! Love him.❤
Great singer, great song, by a much underrated star, that voice, fantastic,
Good tune
1969 jezzz long time ago - I saw this fella live London when I arrived from New Zealand was singing Durham town
I first heard Roger Whitaker on radio in the 70's, when I was a kid. I later got a double-CD "Best of" as I already knew most of his songs, even if I was listening to a lot of other kinds of music at the time. Now that double-CD has long ago been ripped and added to my 100+k song collection of all kinds of music in digital form, and I still play most of those early songs more than the rest.
RIP Roger, and thank you for the legacy you left us!
Listened to him endlessly as a little child. I will always love him and this song.
Miss him. RIP Roger!! ❤
Pure nostalgie. Wat een nummer. In jukeboxe bij ouders in café..
Such a beautiful song so soothing and a great singer 😄
Als ik dit liedje hoor denk ik meteen aan mijn vader. Ben hem al 45 geleden verloren in 1979.hij hield zo van dit nr.
RIP Roger, I will be listening to your music for the rest of my life
