Correction: The N64 can have up to 4 layers of mipmaps and not just 2. Still doesn't matter for this implementation because TMEM is still the big limiting factor here anyways.

you should use hex tesselation instead of quad tesselation, it's gonna look a lot smoother and it will make the distance from the camera that the effect starts at look more consistent

This is incredible but, I agree with Kaze hex tesselation would make it look way smoother. I have had my fair share of experiences modding game graphics and it always looks smooth.

Yeah I get that. It's kind of difficult though because I don't have a teleprompter, lol. I have a weird setup with a wide monitor and tall monitor, so I cram my tall monitor as close to the camera as I can, but it still doesn't line up. So, I either have the choice of looking below the camera or to the upper side, and the upper side is a lot more natural looking than just down.

Strange and funny that feeling is...there is some strange psychological thingy going on in our minds when people talk to an audience - this being us - but are looking in a different direction. Why would that feeling occur? Because from an objective perspective it does not really matter where the host is looking at while talking - if this were an audio podcast it would not have mattered; if one would be blind it would not even have been any matter of importance or disturbance at all. It does not matter where the host is looking at because it does, in reality, not affect the quality or content of the information being conveyed...only psychologically do we get distraught by a host that is not directly looking at us while attempting to inform us. We humans are strange...

Flood escape did not have the distance-based effects, but it did use a similar color combiner.

Well yeah, my engine is definitely _not_ stable enough for any content to be made yet. I'm not touching UI until I finish my lighting system. I want to overhaul UI to be easier to work with, so making custom menus is a lot less tedious. Cool stuff like printing with automatic newlines and 9-slice boxes. Until then though, the UI is currently a broken mess due to multithreading.
