  • I get over my previous lack of enthusiasm for flieger wartches and become a convert to the classic 20th century pilot's watch design. The Laco Aachen turns out to be really good value but buyers should be aware of a few things on this model, including the beefy wrist presence!

Late to the party, but it is worth noting that you can get an open case back on a more premium offering by going to their Flieger Pro configurator. It's not available in 45mm, unfortunately, but if 37mm, 40mm, or 43mm are desirable to you, it can be done.

that's the reason it needs to be beefy: it's a flieger watch. In the WW2-days, that's more like a gauge of an aircraft rather than a timepiece. It was part of the aircraft instrument that pilot and crew wear them during missions. So it needs to be beefy so you'll see it while getting shot at.

I thought this version comes with AR coating, but you can upgrade to Double AR coating?

It’s great looking! I love the colors of the lines and numbers over the black background. Sounds pretty reasonable for the price. I hear you about how fat it is rising above the wrist. Overall, good pick and review!

Thanks very much - like I say in the vid, after ignoring them for years I now ‘get it’

Nice enough watch. Those rivets in the strap are rediculous though.....

Not a Laco, but likely pulling the trigger on a Dekla later this week. Debating 40mm vs 42mm but pretty sure I am going with the 40mm for some of the reasons you mentioned here (plus my wrist is a bit smaller at 7").

Nice! I would agree go for the 40mm - I have to admit that the 42mm wears large to the extent that if I get another flieger I would maybe go smaller myself, even 39mm. The 42mm is a bash magnet!

4 months later, how’s your Dekla? I don’t think it has the quality that is hyped to be now that you have the watch on your wrist, right?

@@gcm22490 Only had it around a month as it took them longer than expected to make. Not sure what you mean about "hyped" but I can't really fault it. Finishing is good, swiss movement running well within COSC, and under half the cost of what Laco or Stowa would have charged for similar specs.

@@Conundrum191 …so, you recommend the Dekla then?
By “hyped”, it’s just that I haven’t heard anyone speaking negative on Dekla-that’s surreal enough unless true.
So you stand by the Dekla quality and would recommend? Any pitfalls so far-like did they spec your watch 100% as you wanted? (I’m currently looking at their website as I type this)
