Steve, you are the professor emeritus of car knowledge and I am so glad you are still able to impart this to us more frequently. I thank God for you and pray for your further recovery.
Sure miss my '65 hardtop, black with white interior. Bought used in 1971 for $600.00. Had 2 speed automatic, (power glide I believe). I could wind low out to about 50 mph and it would chirp tires when it shifted into high. Great fun vehicle.
IMO, the '65 GTO was the best looking GTO EVER. My mom had a "66 LeMans and her friend from work had a "66 GTO, and she knew how to drive it!!! THANKS for this look at a fantastic restoration!
Absolutely agree! I once owned a '65 Tempest and loved it's lines. My only gripe with the car was the rear window design - kinda dull to the eye. My idea was to graft on the C-pillars and rear window from a '66 to excite the look of the car even more. I hope, some day, to fulfill that vision.
THAT is eye candy! Red, convertible, 4 speed, GTO, come on does it get better? Thank you High Octane Classics, Super Shane, and Mr Magnante for sharing this. ~ Chuck
Great to see you Steve.and you chose my favorite car of the muscle car era. I grew up in the backseat of my grandmother's 66' 389 tri-power, four speed Pontiac GTO. Keep up the vids bud. From Wooster.
In 1965, you cannot actually tell if it's a real GTO because the VIN does not distinguish it. The only way to know for 100% sure is the Pontiac Historical Services report showing the GTO option. We got the VIN (from the HOC website), we win: 2 for Pontiac,35 for Tempest Custom, 67 for two door convertible, 5 for 1965 model year, Z for Fremont, CA assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Fremont plant operated from 1963 to 1982 and was the worst plant in the GM system due to rampant drug and alcohol abuse, gambling and everything bad you can imagine. The plant became the NUMMI plant with Toyota as a joint venture from 1984 to 2010 and today Tesla assembles vehicles there today. We got the tag, we can brag: 65 for 1965 model year, 5C for the third week of May 1965 production, 23567 for Pontiac (2) Tempest Custom (35) two door convertible (67), BF for Fremont CA assembly, 209 for Blue interior trim, D for Fontaine Blue exterior paint, 1 for White convertible top, and no Fisher Body installed factory accessories. So, it appears that this vehicle has had a color change inside and out.
Absolutely beautiful! After the well-known 60's era GM guys retired or left, such as Bill Mitchell, John DeLorean, Bill Porter, Ed Cole etc, GM began it steady downfall from greatness to the almost joke they are today. GM isn't much better than Boeing these days.
I will knock 10% right off the top that’s $98 down $98 a month. You ask me how can you do that? I’ll tell how, my boss wants to get rid of all the sporty cars.
Quit saying compact. It's not even mid size. It's huge and heavy. US cars were always big and heavy so that the companies could charge more money and pay union workers money for producing junk

You are looking better each time we see you, Steve. 😃 Please keep up the good work my Friend.
The plumbing running through the front of the intake manifold always looks interesting to me on these.
Wow - what a gloriously styled car ! SO GOOD !!

What a beauty. I remember when they came out, they were the "supercar" of their time. Wish I could take that one to the next cars and coffee. 😁
The GOAT reviewing a “GOAT” what’s not to like. Thanks Steve. Take care! 🙏🏼

My first 5 cars were Pontiacs. I miss them a great deal.
I had the Bonneville ragtop. Fun car to cruise in.
I had a 71 Catalina convertible that I had redone the red paint, new white top and interior for 22 years with a 400 2bbl and now I miss it!
Nice! I want to see more of the Convertible Firebird in the background 😊

Thanks for the great video, GTO is a favorite in Canada.
I want all the GTO’s and they’re all great. This is still my favourite the 65.

😎💪🏁
Don't you wish you could go back to 65 and take her for her maiden ride? My sister's boyfriend had that car and would take us youngins' for a ride. 😊
Rally 1 wheels.
We used to say GTO means gas, tires and oil.
When I was a teen in the 60’s, the only thing cooler than a Goat, was a ‘vette
Hi Steve,My friend called back in 79 he said I just bought a 71 tempest and i said you big dummy you could have spend a little more and got a gto!!
Gas Tires Oil
🖖
Hi, do u have any cuda or barracuda coming in?
Liter is American English. Litre is common English spelling outside the USA.
Great the one?
I thought it stood for, "Gas, Tires, and Oil".
