Every time I watch Leno’s car collection video’s I can’t help but wonder who will inherit this amazing collection when he passes. Leno has so much passion for the cars he has in his collection and it’s sad to think they’ll all be sold off to the highest bidder the moment he’s gone.
@@Shoultes Maybe you should go investigate the backstory on that car. It is what makes it so special. Remember this car was made in the early 1960's. Jay recently had to have the turbine rebuilt because it would no longer start. Oddly enough the original maker of the Chrysler turbine engine is still in business making helicopter turbines and they redid it for him. Also it was made as a passenger vehicle with a run of 55 of them. It was not specialty run of 1 like your jetbike. A turbine isn't necessarily a JET engine.
Yep, the engine is out of a M-47 Patton Tank, originally it had the gearbox out of a Greyhound Bus, Jay doubled the fuel economy to 5 MPG when he replaced the gearbox with a modern Allison.
My best friends dad worked for Lockheed Aircraft Co in Marietta Georgia. As a long time Chrysler buyer, his dad applied to Chrysler for a slot in the Turbine demo program. He was selected, in part because he was a valued customer and he was in a perfect position to show the car to thousands of fellow Lockheed employees. I had a chance to ride in the car several times. It was a thing of beauty; I especially remember that as the accelerator was depressed, that turbine whined like a jet!!!! Oh, the memories.
This Corvair had 4 carburetor’s not two. Even though this Corvair was customized by Yanko factory models came in 110hp 2 carburetors, 140hp 4 carbs and 180hp turbocharged models all from the same 164 cid engine displacement.
I'd like to see this video with only Jay's cars being shown. You could eliminate showing the cars NOT in Jay's collection and add a dozen more that are! That Jag BTW is special for another reason: it's totally stock, as it came from the factory. Jay cleaned it up, replaced the liquids, replaced the old spoke wheels (but kept them) and polished the paint work.
There was an enthusiast who modified and upgraded an Oldsmobile 237 V8, figured out how to get two small radiators in it unobtrusively and tried to get enough money to make a line of "sleeper" muscle car. I heard he was not able to but that one car was rated at 350 HP and he used a modified Corvair manual transmission to make it work right. Since there was no second car made, it fell into hidden history.
WHY on the Blastolene Special are you showing TWO VERY DIFFERENT Cars??? A Long Convertible and a shorter flat-grille hardtop??? Those are DIFFERENT CARS built by the SAME People (30 seconds research IDed them both!).....You might as well show a corvette and an impala interchangeably!
What is amazing is he has people do maintenance like changing the oil, tires, gas, license plates and batteries so he can drive them.A lot of people have cars that they look at but never take out on the road.
I recall reading about the Buick Roadmaster, Jay used to sleep in it when he moved to LA. The article also said the engine was built by Roush, and it's not a crate motor.
At 7:15 and 7:19 AM/FM radio.... "....preserving the AM/FM radio...." then showing in AM radio. I don't think they even had FM radios in cars in the 1950s!!
If I were a 'car enthusiast' and wanted 'untouchable classic cars'... I'd buy me a 1980s Yugo in good condition. I'd have it restored and modified: Low-rider shocks, 2-speed manual transmission, 165 horsepower supercharged, dual exhausts, neon pink and purple exterior paint job and custom purple teflon seats... I'd put subwoofers into the sound system and showcase Billy Idol's LP, "Cyberpunk," full-blast. The next thing I'd do would be to 'pilfer' a totally trashed 'junk-yard' 1972 Dodge Charger from somewhere on the Sioux Indian reservation. I'd break some of the windows and the rear view mirrors, making the exterior even more 'gnarly' than it already was...and take a sledgehammer and pound in big dents all over the steel exterior. Spray paint it purple, maroon, and brown...very unevenly, giving it a distinct and uncomely look. Install a 625 supercharged hemi engine, and poke holes over all the leather seating... Custom tire rims and jack up the custom made chassis and springs, so that ground clearance was 8 inches higher than stock, making for a much rougher and grittier ride...
"A truck axle in the front, for improved torque". (in a rear wheel drive car). Uh... Who writes the text for these? That's not the only problem, but probably the worst. Saying the long name of the vehicle, then immediately saying, "the ______ _______ _______ ________ _______ again, to start the description. It's just poor writing. Once you've announced the long name, just follow up by saying, "this car...." Oh, and it's good to know that every one of these vehicles runs on gasoline! Thanks. (sarcasm). It WAS interesting to learn that Jay has 190 cars and 160 motorcycles in his collection.
The words "raw power" should never be present in any sentence used to describe characteristics of a Chevrolet Corvair. That actually made me laugh out loud. LMFAO!
At 6:45 you show a Roadmaster, but with a Buick engine, not a Chevy crate engine. On the Buick V8 engine, the valve covers stick straight up, whereas the Chevy, and all other V8s of the era, are slanted.
I think James Hetfields custom car should have a more exotic engine in it. I don't know what but what it has makes it somewhat mundane. The car isn't mentioned here. Its not even under Lennos radar (I think) but it is a cool car
The term "Swamp Yankee" is unique to the town of Thompson in the northeast corner, which dates back to the Revolutionary War. The local militia was rumored to have hidden in the swamps of the area from British troops, and the term was given as a cowardly label.
Rare Jaguar indeed. I hope hes upgraded the handling because it couldn't handle the inline six at top speeds. 1963 didn't have the technology to handle that power, hence the straight six was a safer option. Leno does have a convertible jag thats original with less than 50k miles on it but thats a 3.8.
Sold cars over 50 years I can recall 3 yes 3 YENKO Camaros we had to take a C3 TO GET THEM it was Seven thousand dollars we sold it to a retired couple that liked the color 💥 Yes I did drive it
Why did they show a steam engine during the roadmaster section 6:16. That is for a steam car. Lack of attention when editing a video. Of course this whole video is just a regurgitation of everything already gone over by Jay Leno's garage. I'd recommend just going there and looking at videos versus trusting anything you see on this one. The last vehicle in number 1 spot is two different vehicles. The narrator describes the one that Jay doesn't own. He owns the tank car that has the Sherman air cooled motor from a tank in it. I don't think he owns the one described.
At # 1 the "Blastolene Special" you showed TWO completely different cars several times. Which one is the "Special"? the one that looks like an old Indy car or the one that looked like a Deuce Coupe wanna be ?? It is hard to believe Jay Leno would be these mostly odd-ball cars as the 10 UNTOUCHABLE ones.....!
Ford Shun has nothing from Ford, it is a japanese car with the big V6 that has been prepared by Ford Europe. Now, you should try to compare it with the older Renault 5 Turbo 2 which also had a mid-engine configuration and could accelerate faster then a 911.
Because there's two cars pictured there. The one with the minilites is Jay's car. The one shown driving around is another enthusiast's car that came to the garage. The guy's car is a driver that gets autocrossed regularly.
Yes, exact engine only mounted behind the driver. You can search for the video on here jay does about that car. He talks about how great that engine is. I've owned several SHOs. love them.
The 600 Merc is my favorite. Just class and engineering excess. My mom had a 68 Burgundy Jag so I remember that one well but I feel like, been there done that with hers.
Y you speaking in the past tenths is J Leno Died ( NO HE IS NOT ) are all the cars been sold or gone I hope not ..the last car with the monster engine is the one to have in my book 📖 or the Supercharged Mercedes.. Corvair still scary 😨 lol
The Corvair suffered from failing rubber seals and o-rings due to high operating temps. Later "Viton" seals came out for the pushrod tubes after the production run. Those that didn't get the upgrade died an oily mess and smoking nasty heater. The fan belt was prone to failure. Many owners gave up on them Stingers cost about the same as the new 911's so only about 200 total were sold and some do it yourself kits. They took the D-class SCCA championship two years in a row against TR-6's and Porsches I seem to recall. Seal and belt failure were main causes of the downfall IMO.
While I love Jay's collection of cars, I really hate this kind of narrated video. The monotone narrator is very hard to listen to. Sorry, no like and subscription from me.

The white Jag you show is not a V12, it's a straight 6. It's special because it is all original. The car is exactly how it left the factory in 1963.
I’m a huge Leno fan. This list is terrible. McLaren F1? Mercedes 300sl Dusenburg? Many others. His top 10 aren’t in this list.
What do you expect from AI generated garbage.

Jay Leno has so much knowledge about cars it's amazing what that man knows about his cars and he can also work on them himself.
The Blastolene section is particularly poor. Shows two different vehicles and the tech info makes no sense.
Yup
Yep, the engine is out of a M-47 Patton Tank, originally it had the gearbox out of a Greyhound Bus, Jay doubled the fuel economy to 5 MPG when he replaced the gearbox with a modern Allison.

You can see the FOUR air cleaners.

I was waiting for this to be number 1 and it most certainly should be in the top 10. 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing.

That Chrysler Turbine Car is number 1. NOTHING else comes close! I actually got to ride in one at the 1964 New York Worlds Fair.
The McLaren F1 is on his Top 5 of favorite cars in his collection. And his 2 Lamborghini Miuras.
@ and is still the fastest N/A production car in the world
Good video about his indeed rare untouchable cars. But everybody knows that Jay Leno’s absolute favorite car is his McLaren F1 😉
love the late model corvairs so under rated
Fun fact, the Jaguar XKE holds the record for the longest skid mark on a public Rd. 950 feet
all of em'. I'm looking to go and see his collection

I was kinda stumped on that one myself! How does a front axle on rwd increase torque??
@@sfbfriend I would say its more to handle the torque when it comes back down on the road, that torque will pop wheelies. maybe

Worked with Jay, saw several of these on the Burbank lot
The Jag is the coolest looking car ever.
Jay's an all around great guy.
If I saved jay leno from drowning and he offered me any car he has as a thanks...I'd want that shogun.
The last car has a Detroit Diesel 12V-71, not a gas engine and there's no turbos on it. The blowers are needed because it is a 2 stroke.
Which Blastoleen is the one they are talking about, since they show two different ones.
