How was Cliff Alexander ahead of his time? No shot. All he could do was dunk and contest a drive to the bucket. Bball IQ wasn't there and neither was defensive intensity. At a school like Kansas u have to play hard and smart. As a die hard Texas fan, he barely resonates.
Cliff Alexander wasn't the first big flop. There was Reggie Harding from Detroit Eastern in 1961, and Les Cason from East Rutherford NJ in 1971. Cason, the unanimous preseason #1 player in 1971, didn't even make it through the season as the #1 player. And his replacement, Campy Russell from Pontiac Central Michigan, also fell by the wayside. Has anybody ever heard of these guys?
I recall him being #2 and finished around 4. Wasn’t that strong of a class- he was a tweener with very little ball skill that dominated being bigger and more aggressive then his competition. He did play in the Nba though and is still playing overseas I believe. Simply rated higher then he should have been
24/7 had him at 2. That’s it. But again okafor was #1 for most of his hs career. I just don’t get the analysts, in this whole video he may have taken 8 dribbles total? One jumper ? Just rated too high

Bill Self used to coach for Illinois and he felt that Alexander did his hometown dirty. Self is a great coach, but I agree Alexander didn't get a fair shake. He should have transfered after his freshman year, problem is back then you would have to sit out a year for transfer year. Might as well go pro.
