Great explanation, thank you. I'm working on a 72 Cadillac deVille with the 472 ci. Finally got the timing cover off (after a billion steps to get the oil pan off) and I have a good 1"-1.5" or more in play on the chain. By the looks of it, it does not appear this vehicle has ever had the timing chain and sprockets replaced. It has 102K miles, so I am pretty sure that is the problem.
@@FIXMYCAR still working on it, life has been getting in the way. But the timing was all sorts of messed up. The cam gear was at 12 o’clock when it was supposed to be at 6 o’clock and the crank gear was at 9 o’clock when it was supposed to be at 12 o’clock. Had to take out the oil pump and fuel pump to get the cam gear off and definitely is the original, has the nylon teeth on it. Heading to the autoparts store to swap out a puller for a different one, this crank gear is pretty stubborn.
No doubt finally anither real engineer beaides myaelf that ifentifyd whats trurly going on and the dircy solution and thays not rammbng with the same amatuer tepeat t info that every amatuerr on youtube says...........
