I bought the badland and i have a jackery 1000wh and a fridge Donetic cfx3 45. My powerstation runs my fridge for 4.5 days without charging. But if i charge with my 200 watts panel i get 100% battery every night. If the sun is clouded i still can use my 400watts inverter in the bronco sport to charge at 145w my jackery ( limitation of the jackery itself.) i can also use the 12v to charge but it is less than with the 120v if my jackery would allow more charging, i could use the 400w fully to charge even faster. But i practically never need it as the solar charge to 100% in few hours during the day. I fit the fridge and powerstation in the trunk perfectly. Don’t need a PHEV. It is more reliable with gas in winter. Less weight. Safe in summer. Look at what happen in florida with the flood. The car flooded must be isolated because the salt corrode the battery and they ignite fire. I am glad i picked the bronco sport badland gas. Electric tech is not ready yet. I have myself to be very careful with my powerstation to not let under the sun or in hot enclosed car. I put a reflective paper on top of it which cool it very well and i keep window open to keep the temperature low. The bronco sport help a lot with its dark window and the trunk top window. Sometime i keep the trunk also fully open to have access to the fridge and charge telephone, cameras, fan, dust vaccum, all lithium ion. But i always make sure to have my reflective materials well set to prevent heat.

This is the better Bronco, for the simple fact that this one is actually reasonably priced. And before you tell me the Bronco is on par with the Wrangler, the Wrangler is also ludicrously priced for the equipment offered at each price point. You pay WAY too much “lifestyle tax” on those, seriously should be 10k less for what you get for the price.
the age old discussion for offroaders basically. buying a big truck to do hardcore offroading which is only for a mile-long section of a trail, but having to drive 120 miles to the trail itself over highways... if you absolutely must do that part of trail there's less of a choice, but in all other cases a very good cross over is actually a great choice. thats why I'm happy to see this!
Lift kits and leveling kits are starting to come out now for these which will make these even more popular. Plus putting some bigger tires on these will also chamge how they look and make them nicer. You can easily get over 10in or 11in of ground clearance on one of these with a leveling kit and tires
The BS does have in its display menu a display that gives the degree of incline on it while driving. Did you air down the tires or drive under normal air pressure? Great video-the views where you were driving were outstanding also!
31s and done with this thing. Great oob outdoor adventure mobile. Can't do big rocks or big shelves but you don't need that for 99 percent of offroad destinations. Camp in almost any iconic location, get to any mountain bike trail, probably decent enough in the sand if you are surfing in mexico. I think this will be a big hit.
Just bought one, sight unseen. Waiting anxiously for it to come in. Going from Outback to this. Outback let me down. As a homecare nurse in Blue Ridge Mountains, going through cow paths, I am so excited to try it out. Thanks for this great video
The comparison to the G-Wagon and Defender is kinda funny because even though they are the more capable off-road rigs, I doubt that 99.9% of people who actually own them ever drive them in the dirt. That said, the Bronco Sport is a properly impressive little rig
Watching your discussion of the Bronco Sport on the crew show. Watched this video and that trail is as hard as I’d ever wanna wheel a vehicle and I think the Sport handled it quite well. Impressed.
Really enjoy all the videos but the off-road is a good touch and doesn’t get enough love across TH-cam with the combo of good hosts. Keeping bringing the videos
I bought my wife an Outer Banks model (with the moonroof) and she loves it. It also gets 34 mpg on the highway in Eco mode, which is 6 mpg more than what Ford advertises.
I watched this video when it first came out. And a week ago, I bough the '22 Badlands. I think the Sport mode is quite fast and not that forgettable, but I do put around in Eco lately because of gas prices. I immediately swapped out the Pirellis for 245 65 17 K02s and the look is where it should be and I feel like I can go over anything. So far I love it. Very interesting to watch this video again and get more out of it since I've owned the car for a while now.
An off road vehicle review where the camera is on the trail the entire time instead of looking at the person driving half the time? And also a long trail ride instead of one 500ft section that is run once and over analyzed for 10 minutes? Awesome! Liked and subbed just for that!
The regulation in Germany is that you can't have tyre tread visible at the widest point of the body, so having the wheels flush should not be the issue, actually...
I'm heavily considering one of these as my next car once my current lease is up this summer. I love that they took a typical run of the mill CUV and made it into something much interesting and actually capable to boot. And the difference in price between this and an Escape is little to none (of course the Escape will have better incentives). I just wish they offered a powertrain more powerful than the 3 cylinder but without having go all the way up to the top trim Badlands. The hybrid from the Escape would be really nice.
Have the badlands area 51 Bronco sport love it so far and gets pretty good fuel Mileage avg 28 to 30 last 208 mile trip. This is the wife's toy ill keep my f150.
It does have an inclination indicator that also gives steering wheel direction in degrees. I put Falken AT3's in 245/65r17 on my Badlands...ran great at Ocotillo Wells. May hit this trail up sometime. Saw a video in Mexico where a stock Badlands was keeping up with Rubicons (using those bash plates extensively) over 13-18in shelves.
Great video guys. I’m loving my badlands bronco sport. This was the best video I’ve seen showing what this car can do Just want to point out that the Pirellis are ATR not all season and there is an inclinometer in the dash package
I have a badlands bronco sport as well. I was laughing the whole time watching you, as the wife and I had the same reaction off roading ours. It makes off roading boring😂 point it and it will go, seriously. We’ve had ours 3 months and have ripped off two skid plates(just the bolts and the plate hung down), inner right fender, broke the front bumper and broke the windshield. I’m taking the stock tires off (235/65/17’s) and putting on 245/70/17’s to gain about 1.5”. We love ours!! We’ve towed out a ranger and a wrangler, both laughed until I drove around them and hooked up!
Traded a tried and true reliable Subaru Outback on a 24 Bronco Sport Badlands. Was thinking about the Badlands for a while then decided to take a test drive. I was sold after the test drive. It’s a very impressive vehicle.
Next off road video I'd suggest not locking the rear diff from the get go. Also stop on the steep stuff to see how the car handles it without momentum (and preferably record from the outside). This trail (at least on camera) seems manageable by any awd crossover with decent clearance and reasonable TC.
Could you try and get a Nissan Juke AWD, or something else fairly mundane with an awd system and test it on this hill? It would be nice to see what a really basic 4wd crossover will actually do.
If it’s not deep sand or wet, you’re fine in AWD. However, AWD systems struggle on low traction surface off road. You will want a transfer case that can engage center diff lock in a full time 4WD system (LR3) or a part time 4WD system (most trucks) for the dunes or wet trails. These let you do a proper 50/50 front/back power split. AWD system can’t do that since it relies on electronics.
These off-road two takes are awesome. The market for vehicles like this is becoming big and this is a great showcase of abilities and comparison between vehicles.
I wonder how it would do on this trail with the “Trail Rig” upgrade from Ford; it gives it at least an additional inch of lift and includes 31 inch tires.
Had one of the badlands for a couple of weekends. Took it on some light stuff will a bit of rock crawling. This car is so damned fun, if I wasnt so into getting the 2 door I would totally get this. Badlands trim is the way to go for sure. I wish they would have done the harder stuff because I know it would have made it up those. BTW the guy saying that the on road feel is forgettable. If you are looking for a nice cruiser then this is the car.
I'm so jealous lol. I got the Bronco Sport Base and thinking of trading it in 2-3 years for a 2 door once demand isn't as crazy. There's Base 4 doors going here for $42-52k in my area and that markup is just too big.
I'd like to see a One Take episode where Matt reviews a modified 4x4 on this trail, he does the first part of the trail, then lets the owner rip it up the rest
The main advantage of the Cherokee Trailhawk is that it has low range, which can really help in going up and down hills. Much better speed control, and less heat put into the transmission. But I like the Bronco Sport.
Plus a real locker. Over time the Foal Sport's rear diff will become less effective at holding torque and probably would slip if it had a legitimate low range to multiply its input torque.
A low range is completely unnecessary in this class. There is video of the Bronco Sport durability testing in Moab and it is capable of more than will ever be asked of it. Same for the Cherokee Trailhawk. Almost nobody is going to do serious offroading with vehicles in this class.
@@jstrig completely false, the Cherokee Trailhawk's low range is very useful. Low range isn't just for rock crawling. Ascending and descending hills, getting better control, keeping transmission temperatures down, keeping transmission input torque down, and having the correct gear ratio for more obstacles. There are numerous videos highlighting this fact. Kia Sorrento did Moab and make a commercial about it, so you're bragging that the Foal Sport is as good as a Kia? . Without the low range you have to treat the torque converter like a cvt. It lacks the ability to generate enough torque to slowly crawl and requires momentum which was displayed on TFL's Compass Trailhawk test. The engine has to develop more stressing it out more, and the transmission clutching has to hold that torque since there is no gear reduction behind reduce it. A slow vehicle on a steep hill will experience extreme amounts of torque. . The Cherokee is very capable and if the Foal Sport had a low range it would be too. th-cam.com/video/BGjrBRAJQlA/w-d-xo.html . Anyone saying it's unnecessary has little to no experience with low range and off roading. The fact that Ford omitted it shows their opinion of this car as not that dirt worthy.
@@KTMcaptain It is unnecessary in this class of vehicles. I can virtually guarantee that the Bronco Sport Badlands can go anywhere the Cherokee Trailhawk can go. There is no evidence to the contrary. Bringing up the Sorento shows how ignorant you are about the Bronco Sport.
@@jstrig Your dismissal of a low range highlights your incompetence. The Kia Sorrento did in fact do Moab, so the Foal Sport doing it is meaningless. Subarus do those trails, and I'm not talking about Poison Spider or similar since it takes a built rig. . You've not provided a single reason as to why a sub 20:1 crawl ratio is fine. I've already provided evidence, maybe watch the video showing just how capable the Cherokee Trailhawk is. I've also articulated why low range is important. . Physics: On a surface with no grade the vehicle's weight is being supported by the surface and the amount of force needed to move it is equal to the resistance the vehicle has to rolling (friction from tires etc). The steeper the grade the more weight the vehicle must lift off the ground in order to move forward. Steep angles not only require a vehicle to overcome rolling resistance, but also to overcome the height over the distance of the obstacle. . The foal has an 18:1 crawl ratio and 280 ft lbs of torque under full boost... That means it can generate roughtly 5k lbs of torque, but under full boost. That also means that the transmission must hold nearly triple the torque the Cherokee Trailhawk's does without the gear ratio behind it. This also doesn't include the amount of torque the front brakes will consume to get the front end on the Foal Sport to transfer enough torque. With gear and driver it'll be pushing 4000 lbs already. . So you think it's acceptable for a vehicle to need nearly full throttle to get over an obstacle? Even more, it won't have enough torque without momentum to get over many obstacles, especially when the front brakes start eating into the engines torque.
Great video. Thanks for showing how capable the BS is. FYI-there is a screen that shows degrees on high high you are climbing or leaning. I found it when I was in Colorado-it is nice to see either the degrees climbing/leaning. Great job-fun video!!
Very interesting 4wd system. It seems extremely similar to the RT4wd system Honda created for the 1st Gen CRV, with the exception that it's manually selectable as opposed to the hydraulic dual pump system Honda created. In many respects, this vehicle seems like a spiritual successor to the 1st gen CRV.
I'm 99% sure I found the trail in google earth and their route is about 2.6 miles and climbs 2100 feet from the creek crossing at the bottom to the top. Average upslope is 18%, and some sections are steeper than 3H:1V. ✌️ I think the official TST off-roading testing grounds is a relatable place for the road-focused driver...you MIGHT want to get up something that tough one day to go camping somewhere cool or visit a weird cabin. If you need much more than this, you're doing the Rubicon, Baja, or the Dakar on the regular!
I really liked this more than I thought but for me it needs another 2" of roof line and windshield height for sight lines. My head was right up at the headliner and the whole safety suite mirror thing was a giant blind spot. The compact size is very handy if you are on trails in the woods with trees lining them. I keep trying to find something that would be like my old 1988 Dodge Raider 2DR, but there are so few compact true 4x4s and the ones out have low roof lines.
Love the content. Thanks. Great looking car, and the 2.0T is a modern day sleeper... But Jeep have been doing this since 2014 with the Cherokee Trailhawk. Would piss up this trail. We take ours to events and it confuses guys in proper 4x4's.
The camera takes away the speed, braking, and change of angle. To help people see what the vehicle is do better tie a thick ribbon to review mirror that hangs freely about 8”- 12” long. It will help show the forces and change in direction better. It’s another source of information for the viewer. It works for on track driving also.

Just turo’d one of these over the weekend while visiting Tempe/Phoenix area, wasn’t able to off-road it but loved the utility and that rear window. Touch screen is super responsive and it was super chill to drive around in. Looks the jam, glad you guys were able to push it.
Good point!
98% of wranglers are for "lifestyle" looks and are never taken off road. A lot of idiots in the lifestyle market willing to pay big money
@@papa_pt BULLSHIT...try buying a used Wrangler that has never been off road............not gonna happen. Just shut up...

Matt, let him drive without your constant directions. He was doing fine and you kept correcting him, you sounded like my wife lol!
I was about to comment that Matt sounded like my dad when I was going through drivers ed :D
I wish I could channel Zack's calm demeanor when my wife does her Matt impression :)
And Matt talks over him a lot too
God I would hate to be in any driver seat with matt in the car.
the age old discussion for offroaders basically. buying a big truck to do hardcore offroading which is only for a mile-long section of a trail, but having to drive 120 miles to the trail itself over highways... if you absolutely must do that part of trail there's less of a choice, but in all other cases a very good cross over is actually a great choice. thats why I'm happy to see this!
Lift kits and leveling kits are starting to come out now for these which will make these even more popular. Plus putting some bigger tires on these will also chamge how they look and make them nicer. You can easily get over 10in or 11in of ground clearance on one of these with a leveling kit and tires
Looking shockingly easy for a small crossover, pretty neat.
The BS does have in its display menu a display that gives the degree of incline on it while driving. Did you air down the tires or drive under normal air pressure? Great video-the views where you were driving were outstanding also!
I love how well Matt’s wife has a 1-liner for every car that sums it up perfectly.
Edit: 27:10 did Matt just call it a “trucklet” 😂😂

Have an update for the future? I'm seriously considering buying one of these and love to hear anybody's real life impression.
One of the best reviews I’ve seen on this vehicle. Good job guys.
The video test sucked
The comparison to the G-Wagon and Defender is kinda funny because even though they are the more capable off-road rigs, I doubt that 99.9% of people who actually own them ever drive them in the dirt. That said, the Bronco Sport is a properly impressive little rig
I really like the Two Take approach for these videos, looking forward to more of them!
Immediately notices how quiet the car is once Matt gets out 😆
Matt @10:44 “you did more homework than me on this one.”
Zach @11:02 *chugs Smart Water*
Matt, I love you, but let Zach do his thing. If you want a remote control car go buy one.
I really like the Bronco Sport, I think it’s the best of the compact crossovers. I also like these off road reviews.

Really enjoy all the videos but the off-road is a good touch and doesn’t get enough love across TH-cam with the combo of good hosts. Keeping bringing the videos
I bought my wife an Outer Banks model (with the moonroof) and she loves it. It also gets 34 mpg on the highway in Eco mode, which is 6 mpg more than what Ford advertises.
with premium fuel? I'm averaging 29 on mine with 87 gas
This video was slightly terrifying and honestly I’m impressed
Ford did a fantastic job. I absolutely love the performance of this 34k Bronco.
Performance? LOL.........$34K LOL....sucker
Throw some 15s and some 30s on it that thing would be sick
It would burn up that motorcycle engine..LOL...
@@chadhaire1711 i have seen the bronco sport with 31 inches tyres. No problem from Ford specialist with the tyrbo 2.0 250 hp engine
Didn't expect the Bronco sport to do that well, as usual I really enjoyed this off-road review.
do that well doing what? what a joke
It does have a incline meter in the gauges. You have to hit the arrow on your steering wheel and toggle the the ui.
How do you feel about it now that you've had it for a year?
An off road vehicle review where the camera is on the trail the entire time instead of looking at the person driving half the time? And also a long trail ride instead of one 500ft section that is run once and over analyzed for 10 minutes? Awesome! Liked and subbed just for that!
The regulation in Germany is that you can't have tyre tread visible at the widest point of the body, so having the wheels flush should not be the issue, actually...
Germany, ha!
Ford builds a really nice subaru forester.
Except it looks good.😛

@@toddrasmussen13 totally subjective. I think it's fugly!
Saw a video in Mexico where a stock Badlands was keeping up with Rubicons (using those bash plates extensively) over 13-18in shelves.
rebadged ford escape = jeep wrangler rubicon
Great video guys. I’m loving my badlands bronco sport.
This was the best video I’ve seen showing what this car can do
Just want to point out that the Pirellis are ATR not all season and there is an inclinometer in the dash package
That trail is adorable.
Green laning at it's best...worst? Lol. I still want one of these though. Oddly enough.
These little drive videos you do with the two of you are the most engaging thing besides some of the best podcast guests.. thanks guys keep it up!
I just found this channel! Straight up off roading, no camera shenanigans! Great work! You just got a new subscriber. Gonna go watch the Defender now!
Damn dude this is the OG automotive youtube right here. Where ya been?
Next off road video I'd suggest not locking the rear diff from the get go. Also stop on the steep stuff to see how the car handles it without momentum (and preferably record from the outside). This trail (at least on camera) seems manageable by any awd crossover with decent clearance and reasonable TC.
There’s one in my neighborhood and it looks **phenomenal**. So much cooler than the new Defender which looks nothing at all like a Defender :D
Possibly a Crosstrek.
These videos have made me love offroading. Exciting in a way but, mostly relaxing.
Gotta say that the interior spec is really nice!
Super impressed with how capable the Sport is. Good job Ford!
I'd love to see some Gambler 500 dudes pass you in a stock Crown Vic or Corolla
Yeah, I wasn't sold on the Bronco Sport early on but I am really becoming a believer. Nice video, guys.
A slow vehicle on a steep hill will experience extreme amounts of torque.
.
The Cherokee is very capable and if the Foal Sport had a low range it would be too. th-cam.com/video/BGjrBRAJQlA/w-d-xo.html
.
Sport badlands vs Cherokee trailhawk. I wish they called it the Bronco II.
Nice SUV. It looks great and is actually off-road capable.
I have no interest in off road driving, but I like you guys and was fun to watch you guys review the Bronco.
I was hoping for some WRC Navigator Matt; "Right over crest, four." I always enjoy that. lol
The Bronco II is back!
Cannot wait to see what the big brother is capable of
Love the content.
Cant wait for TFL to get their hands on the Bronco
