I think you missed the point. If you want an off road capable CUV with family friendly features you can't find anywhere else, like rubber floors (carpets get disgusting with kids) you only have one choice. If you want nicer on road, more leg room, get the Escape.
Instead of telling us that these cars are on different tires, why can’t these reviews ever just get cars with same or similar tires installed in the first place?
because when people heard their car is worse, they would dislike the video. This way, Edmunds has and out and doesn't have to critically analyze shitty cars with a strong fanbase
So you expect edmunds to stock hundreds of tires sizes and models and install and then remove them after test to give car back to manufacturer the way it came?
These vehicles are lent to reviewers by the manufacturers, if they wanted similar tires then they'd have to pay for them and it would cause issues because those aren't the tires that come with the vehicles. I think comparing based on what you're actually being sold is better.
2 years ago I got my first subdue. A Forster and it have all season tires and did very well in Wisconsin winters and went on trails fine. Of course trails are not propped off road
If you were focused on off roading, you wouldn't pick either of these. The Subaru shines in the snow and being a good family vehicle. I use to ski over 60 days a year and saw all the SUVs. I never saw a Subaru stuck but saw high end SUVs stuck all the time.
I've worked at a body shop in Wisconsin for 23 years now and wrecked Subaru's are our bread and butter during the winter. Usually you can chalk up awd/4x4 winter accidents to overconfidence, but the fact that we see so many more Subarus than any other brand makes me think that Subaru's symmetrical awd just isn't that great in the snow/ice. Probably because Subaru's don't have real torque vectoring. Hondas have real torque vectoring and we very rarely see them in the winter. Granted, I realize that you are talking about stuck vehicles, and I have to admit I can't seem to recall seeing a Subaru stuck in the snow either.
I see a lot of people complaining about CVTs, but from what I have heard Subaru has worked the kinks out of it by now. I have a Crosstrek and have gotten so used to the CVT that I'd never consider another car without one, not feeling shifts all the time is awesome.

Nope. Cars come with their tires and if you want to start modifying those cars that is up to you. It is not pointless or useless. The Bronco is just a better off roader which stands to reason that it would be.
Just sold my bronco sport. Didn’t care for it. It did surprisingly well off road but was terrible for regular everyday driving. Harsh ride, cheap feeling, all sorts of rattles after 4000 miles, felt tiny inside, and had weird electrical issues. Traded for the new outback wilderness and actually made money on it.

Personally own a 2020 Subaru Sport. It's been a fantastic car for city-crawling, and long road trips. There's a cavern of space in the boot, and it's been a hell of a vehicle in the winter. While the Bronco is nice, the turbo on those cars will require heavier maintenance. I do applaud the higher HP that I wish the Forester had. Also if I had the choice, I'd trade out the CVT for a true gearbox. The transmission on the Subaru is mushy, but DOES get great gas mileage. For the price, tech, safety, and generally all around solid vehicle, the Forester is a sound deal. These Broncos are pretty watered down on the lower end comparing what you get with the forester for the same price technology wise. Honestly, this review would have been better matched if the subi had some more weight in her boot, along with some good off road tires. Otherwise, this was a reasonable comparison.
My 07 4runner is a base model, and has a leather wrapped stearing wheel. Produces same hp as the ecoboost bronco sport does, yet gets 0-60 in 7 secs flat. That is being heavier and larger, and no turbo necessary. Also gets better fuel economy as well. Cuz tbh. Nothing "eco" about ford's eco boost engines. When they legit get some of the worst fuel economy out of all their competitors using slightly larger NA engines. In fact, ford doesn't know how to produce decent hp or torque for a fucking thing, without it being a gas guzzling v8 or slapping turbos on them. These are nice looking. However, bet you they will be discontinued like the originals were, after just a few years. Only Ford can take something once nice, and make it even worse in the long run. Other than their trucks (which barely hold their own as it is) they suck ass in every other catagory. Besides, nothing Ford/Dodge/Jeep/GM makes comes close to Subaru's awd system (aka worlds best), or toyotas 4x4 system (worlds best and most advanced 4x4). That's why they have to do comparisons like this. Pitting them against vehicles that aren't even in the same catagory/class. Just to make their subpar vehicles appear better than they actually are. Where are the Bronco vs 4runner videos at? Still not a direct comparison. As one is a legit suv and other a glorified crossover. Oh, not many, cuz 4runner would shit all over it, all day every day. A base model 4x4 4runner would still hold its own against the highest off road model ford has for the bronco. That right their speaks volumes. Just sayin. But I've noticed with our american brands (we own an 11 subaru forester, and they're sorta the same in this regard) they like to charge you extra, for things that come standard in most other makes. I.e. my base model 4runner has a sunroof (standard for this year), f/r side airbags (were optional on all but limited 03-06), climate control, steering wheel audio controls, projector headlights, fogs, L.E.D. taillights, advanced traction control (atrac for 4x4 models, my 2wd only has a 2wd version of that system), downhill assist, full underbody skid plates, full sized matching spare tire, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Yet even today, you couldn't get all of this on something from ford, gm, dodge, jeep or subaru, unless you got a higher trim. (Like wife's base 2011 forester. It's 4years newer, and doesn't have a sunroof, climate control, steering wheel audio controls, projector headlights or l.e.d tails, or even fogs and plastic steering wheel (yep. Learned subarus base is legit bare bones base). But they come equipped on next model up. Shit like that. So I agree with the other comment. At that price point, these things should be standard, not an redicolous extra cost to get shit that would come on a cheaper base model from another make.
Biggest difference between the two off-road besides the tire performance I saw was how much more articulation the Ford had. They both lifted wheels but the subaru's were like 3 feet off the ground in some places.
@@niuhuskieguy Non Badlands are good off roaders as well just not as dedicated. A standard Bronco would be great for light trails, driving through fields and so on. It would be nowhere near as good as the old Bronco though that could out run a mile long police tail at normal speeds.

@@bighands69 There is no comparison between the Bronco sport and ANY older bronco. Other than the name of course. Older Bronco's were TRUCKS. These Bronco sports are unibody CARS. And the non Badlands versions have LESS clearance than virtually ANY stock Subaru SUV, and no electronic simulated lockers, which is really the only strong advantage the Sport Badlands has over the Subaru. Any modern base model Subaru Outback or Forester has more clearance and tow capacity than any non Badlands sport. And I believe the sport STILL has less tow capacity, because as I mentioned, it is built on a CAR platform, not a truck. You can't evoke memories of older Bronco's in the same sentence as newer Bronco's unless you are talking about the REAL Bronco's that are full sized, and built on dedicated frames. Databyter
The Wildpeaks make a huge difference when put on the Forester. I get you're testing with stock equipment based on trim... but it would be interesting to see if the right tires would have made a difference with X-mode off. I would love a turbo in the Forester, but it does what I need. Had a legacy before my 19 Forester, and get the same mileage out of the Forester as I did the legacy.
My daily driver is a modified WRX. We recently got a '21 Forester w/ the paddle shifters that will see very little use, BUT, the NA 2.5 is actually more responsive than I imagined. For normal people driving, it's fine.
@@icemantuck2638 traded my forester for a crv hybrid in April… and traded that for a Legacy XT in October. The power is definitely night and day from the forester. The 2.5 is fine, and peppy enough off the line but does run out of breath for passing power. Of course the Geyser blue Wilderness OB I really wanted but wasn’t ordering and waiting for at the risk of used car values dropping to where I would have been upside down… showed up 3 weeks later. Ehh this one is back to being leased, so I’ll be see what I want and get again in 3 years. The tech in the crv and it’s design just grew to irritate me beyond what I could handle. Of course, all of this was before finding and starting a WFH job, so now I’m sitting here with a 15k/year lease that’s gonna probably have less than 20k on it when the lease is up. Oh well I may have some equity in it by the end…
Unfortunately reviewers don't usually have the latitude to switch out tires as most serious customers would do for more serious offroad use. And Subaru offers low profile wheels and tires as a ROAD and LUXURY upgrade, and often these are put into offroad tests, which is annoying to say the least. I have 30" Falken Trail AT's on my Subaru Wilderness, and it would smoke that Sport most likely. The only advantage it has is the simulated electronic lockers, which IS a serious advantage. But yes, the tires on the Forester in this video might as well have been Ice Skates for this test. The Bronco was better outfitted for this particular test, but likely would have been Trounced in a Road test. With some good Falken's on the Forester, and possibly smaller wheels and taller profile tires, this would have been an entirely different test, and it would have been even money. But the Subaru wins overall. Despite the admitted advantage of the lockers on the Badlands version, the Subaru, as a BASE model, would beat every other trim of the Sport which do not have the same clearance and have no electronic lockers, making the Subaru base model superior offroad to the non Badlands models, with the right shoes. My teenage sons bought a 15 Forrester, at my instigation. I feel it’s a good reliable safe car. The cvt is something I’d reconsider, and the x-mode has been pretty unreliable in the deep snow we had according to my one son. Mind you that could be driver inexperience as well. I bought a 21 bronco badlands and for off road and snow it’s light years ahead of the suby. I agree it loses in rear seat space mind you my 6’3, 300 lb power lifter son managed it ok ... until getting out 😂 Two different vehicles for doing different things I like them both
That’s a poor design. You should be able to “dial in” the speed you want on the go. (Mine is adjustable from 1km/h to 30km/h using the cruise control buttons).

@@Albuermeduardo sounds clunky and awkward. If you want to slow for a bit and revert back to the set speed you can’t. You’d have to brake and then accelerate again. A decent system lets you override it temporarily (brake or accelerate) and then revert back to the setting you had prior. Sadly modern Subaru’s aren’t good at anything anymore.
And/or If you're going to test the Bronco "SPORT," How about testing the Forester "SPORT." Hmmm what a concept!?!?!?!?! Disclaimer: I could care less about these two.

It won't make any difference if they were both on the same tires the Ford bronco sport has a far superior four wheel drive system that's just facts they're two different vehicles for two different things.
People simply don’t understand how overkill the bronco badlands version is. People think if they are going on a road trip or “camping” they need a locking differential, 10inches of ground clearance and huge off-road tires. Subaru has a perfect balance of on road performance and off-road confidence that 99% of people would be happy with. This class of vehicle is simply a show toy so people know you are adventurous and unlike the rest of society.
Rumor is, they're discontinuing all models (since pretty much EVERYONE outsells them), except their f-series (take the f150 away, ford goes under. They themselves admitted this), explorer (despite the fact it should of been discontinued decades ago since it's been a factory clunker since introduction), and mustang (only due to its cult following, not actual to being a good buy). As everything else barely sells. So, they now use the bronco name like they did for that mustang suv, to re-sell rebadged and slightly changed models all over again. Like how this sport is pretty much an escape with a different body. So, it's ford's way to continue selling their trash that didn't sell well to begin with, by using well known names from models that have a massive cult following in order to sell them. Funny how ranger was discontinued, then they brought that back too. Lol. Pretty much their lincoln brand is no different than GMs sub brands. Just their way to keep selling the same trash over and over again. With being changed just enough to not appear like it's a carbon copy of what it is in fact copied from. No running stock lift. Same ones that came on the older jeep rubicon from factory. Absolutely annihilated my fuel economy. Lol But they brag up and down about how great their ecoboost is. But it's getting fuel economy like their NA v8s did. On top of if they were to fail (and they will) they don't have enough power to get out of their own way. As they use much too small engines for the vehicles they are put in. That, and Ford really doesn't know how to produce power and torque for a damn thing, without slapping not one but TWO turbos on them.
If you are a serious off roader, then obviously go for the Bronco, but if you want a all-around family vehicle with proven all wheel drive, then Subi is the obvious choice. Ford quality is another concern.
If you’re a serious off roader, yes Bronco. But the vehicle reviewed here isn’t the Bronco. It’s Bronco Sport. Ford marketing really is top notch. Have to give them credit for that. They are using the bronco name to basically push a mini escape to masses with the illusion you’re getting some crazy off road capable machine.
It is unfair to compare engine power without comparing economy. Americans tend to go for bigger and more powerful engines but half their work is hauling extra fuel while battling limited range. CVT. Constantly variable Transmission gives better fuel economy and the engine usually runs at low revs, maybe 2000 rpm which reduces engine wear. Low fuel consumption is a major criteria for modern car design. High speed and high power is America living in the past. The Subaru boxer engine is a flat four engine which keeps the centre of gravity down low increasing safety at highway speeds and off road. I believe people comparing vehicles should learn the correct settings and driving techniques and use them to show what the car can do. Turning off electronic and computer controls misrepresents the design and capabilities of the cars. It is unfair to only test the off-road capabilities of the cars as design is constant compromise. One manufacturer may opt for excellent on road handling and adequate off road ability, while the competition may demand excellent off road ability and adequate on road performance and handling. The Subaru emphasises sand and snow in its off road computerised settings and you tested the cars on rough rock climbing conditions with steep hills and large holes. The Bronco seemed to be in it’s element in these conditions. Off road tests require off road tyres. For a fair test the tyres should be the same for both vehicles, then another test with the manufacturers recommended tyres for those conditions.
Um, better resale value? Do your homework, resale on box broncos is insane. Broncos are legends. Maybe I wouldn't get the sport but the new bronco, that is a GET. They are priced close to the sport and come with 35" tires, lockers, and a lot of oh my! Jeep is dead.

The old bronco is a classic and only held value because they killed off the brand (and OJ Simpson). The new Bronco is just a metal box stuck on a Ranger frame (which is a failure of a truck in the USA) and doesn't even have a solid front axle. Serious off roaders will continue to buy Jeeps.
I love the look of the outside of the Bronco Sport. I test drove one, its smaller than more Ford Escape and you can tell on the inside, but it still feels more like an SUV than the Escape. The backseat is tight, my son is 5'10, he can barely fit in the back.
A review out of Russia tested the top of the top in SUVs and the difference was the quality of the anti-locking software to lock the spinning wheel and transfer power to the wheels with grip. Even the SUVs with massive wheel articulation struggled against those with advanced traction control software / modes. The channel used tough trails and tested each vehicle with minimal traction aids and added them as the limits of standard traction were maxed-out.
The smaller Bronco Sport fits a niche in the boring small SUV class. Its well built an very fun to drive. We are planning on getting one in bright red. Badlands version. Its on order!! 🏆
I disagree. Never trusted a subaru engine. And the bronco is the better off road car. And any car after 5 years and 100k+ are not worth that much. I keep my car 10+ years, so i don’t care of value resale. A car that can withstand 2 feet of water and go into the moab is worthh to me. with back protection plate that japanese and korean have not. These are city suv. The bronco is off roader.
My buddy had a 2015 forester 6 speed manual and that car surprised the shit out of me on its capability. We took it on a beach and that thing just plowed through a foot of loose sand without a problem on stock yokohama bald tires. Its wasn't the fastest car but off road it was a beast. It just had traction control no xmode.

Yea you can't really say the Forester had less capable descent control when it was on low profile 18 inch wheels with low traction summer tires. It wasn't that the car wasn't controlling descent. It simply had no traction on those tires. That being said, the Bronco was impressive, and it had the right tires that could show it off. Databyter
@@bighands69 Nobody is kidding anybody. I shopped Bronco's (full sized ones, not this toy) and The Ranger Tremor as well. I ended up buying a Subaru Wilderness and putting oversized tires on it which serves my needs perfectly. My tires have more grip than those stock ones in the video. I know it is not a rock crawler, but I don't crawl rocks. I do appreciate the over 10" clearance I have, the very decent MPG, and it's ability to power thru sand snow and mud, all of which I have personally done. Nobody is kidding me. And for those that DID buy the Bronco and waited a year and paid too much, congratulations, you have more dough than I do. But I will most likely be buying one of those Full sized Bronco's used at a 40% depreciation or more in a few years, so please don't scratch it up too much. Never mind, you are probably working 6 days a week to pay for it. I'll take it off your hands with little trail use, and have more time and money to have fun with it. Nobody is kidding me. But I also know what my Outback is capable of, and right now, it is capable of 100% of the tasks I have asked of it. Not a theory, real life. If and when used Bronco's become available en masse, I'll pick up one of those as well. As far as the TINY Bronco, it is too small for my needs, and MOST of those models can NOT keep up with a Subaru offroad. Only the Badlands, which are pretty badass in the micro Bronco, Subaru, class, with the simulated locker and the higher clearance is competative, and likely better for offroad. I'd still choose the Subaru for reliability, resale, and safety. Most of the Sports out there are NOT Badlands, and MOst SUBARUS would eat the non Badlands versions for breakfast. Databyter

I'm NOT saying that a Subaru is BETTER than a Bronco (MINI Sport Badlands) Offroad, although it's close, and when it comes to the MINI Bronco SPORT NON Badlands, it IS arguably, because they don't have as much clearance and they don't have the electronic simulated lockers which gives the Badlands version the only advantage it has over the Subaru. Other than that, the Subaru has better specs, even for offroad, as well as more room, and better towing... But yes, I DID choose a Subaru for a multi-purpose vehicle that I can commute in when working, and camp and explore when I am off. These are not stories, they are my life. My Wilderness is set up for camping. I have a power station, a sleeping area, an electric cooler, solar panels, and Still HAVE lots of leftover cargo area and room for seating 2-3 other people. I have pictures and videos. The Sport would not fit all that stuff with room to spare, and extra seating. So sorry you can't comprehend that not everyone can make a Bronco work with their lifestyle. If I had unlimited funds, I would have Bought a (full sized) Bronco too. I love them. But it just wouldn't have worked for me MOST of the time, when I would just be commuting, paying MORE in gas expense, having less comfort and luxury, inferior handling. The times where I DO go offroading whether at the beach, the desert, or the Mountains, my Subaru has got me where I need to go. I have been in deep soft sand where 4x4 trucks often get stuck, same with mud and snow. My vehicle doesn't have a low range which sucks and means that I have to stress the torque converter thru tough spots, but honestly MOST of offroading is NOT a rough spot, it's mostly about clearance and traction. . I'm not rock crawling, but I do go thru areas where a car or typical SUV would immediately get stuck. Obviously if I had a Full sized Bronco, I might have chosen different, and more difficult lines, because they are more capable. But with the Bronco Sport Badlands in this video, I'd be choosing the SAME lines, because although the lockers give it some advantage, the Subaru is still in the same capablity range, especially if it had better tires than the model in this video. My Subaru Wilderness has 30" Falken Trail AT's. on a 17x7.5" Wheels and it would give the Sport Badlands a run for it's money on any trail with it's higher torque and lower gearing. Try to squeeze out a few more IQ points. Stop attacking people on TH-cam. I bet you don't even HAVE a damn car the way you talk. You sound like you are 12 years old or a jobless 20 year old living in mommies basement, calling people liars. Calm down. This is MY truth. It cannot be disputed just because YOU can't comprehend compromise. And keep in mind that MOST of the Bronco Sports are NOT as capable as the Badlands versions in this video, which are not the majority of these vehicles sold. A Bronco is a better off road vehicle than a Subaru. One is a dedicated off roader the other is a glammed up SUV. There is nothing wrong with people choosing a Subaru for the family and also to use off road. It would be like somebody claiming they choose a Bronco over a G wagon for off road. One is clearly better than the other at the job and there would be no getting around that.
@@whitefang8329 the reviewers are not agree with you. And i also sat inside, and i didn’t found any issue with it. The materials are solid for rugged usage. And the seat are better than in the cx5. The seat are confortable. The screen is touchscreen, not a dumb dial like in the cx5, and the moonroof is bigger than a normal moonroof. The console is soft touch, the passenger seat is electric not manual like in the toyota rav4..I disagree with you. The bronco sport badlands is more expensive because it is an overall well equipped vehicle and with real off road capabilities. I don’t see that they would undersell to please you. If you don’t like it, no problem, but there will be a lot of persons that will like it. The reviews are at 95% very good, with nearly not a bad thing except the price. But Ford always do employee price -4000$ at some moment of the year. It is just a question of time. And their interest rate is not bad for a brand new vehicle 2.99 60 months. Toyota do 4.99 or more sometimes. You need to wait a year or two for Toyota vehicles and they don’t do any rebate. And there are some issues in the hyundai and kia and toyota cars, (car take fires, transmission, engine noise, heating very poor, door handle and roof rack not solid. The bronco sport is solid with rugged materials, good transmission, solid engine powerful, solid floor with metal bash plates and a more solid suspension, transmission 4x4, the road ride is good on normal and off road. You cannot say that from the korean and japanese cars.
Same. I test drove base Bronco Sport as no Badlands or Big Bend available. I would never buy the car. It reminded me of an old Maverick. The fit and finish was plastic and cheap. Maybe Badlands is better but they quoted 39k for it. No thanks. I like the styling and outside look though. I will keep my Outback and wait for Forester Wilderness to test drive.

I live in Brazil . I'm looking for a 4x4. I need opinions, in the end I go with the Subaru Forester, I think the Ford Bronco is a spectacle, and I accept the Jeep Compass Trailhawk. Not a Subaru fan not any dealers in my area. Bought a Badlands area 51 Bronco love it last trip got 30.5 MPG. Badlands edition rides and handles better than the lower models and has bigger tires also has a larger engine 1.5 lower 2.0 upper.
I would LOOOOVE to see a side by side of the 2021 Subaru Forester Sport and literally any other mid-size SUV in the snow, both with the SAME type of tires. Subaru’s symmetrical AWD, and X-Mode offroad system, is better than anything you can find. I’ve taken my 21’ Forester Sport in the snow and driven past all kinds of “offroad” vehicles stuck in the snow and had to tow a lot of them out. Fords, Dodges, Toyotas, Land Rovers, BMW X Series’, Jeeps, Chevys… they literally all get stuck lol it’s hilarious.

I own a crosstrek, but I had one the badlands for a couple of weeks and I would consider the bronco sport over a subaru since its basically one on steroids. With how small it is it really doesnt feel small on the inside.
@@stw2186 i was faced with a similar decision recently. came down to the bronco sport badlands and forester wilderness. ultimately went with the forester wilderness because 1) much, much less 5 yr depreciation compared to fords, 2) insurance was 25% cheaper
Note the quite different line the driver took in the in both cars. He said it was the same line, but the far right line was a much easier line with much less suspension flex required. I feel lied to. If you say it is the same, make sure it is the same.
I have a Mazda CX5 and my wife has a 2020 Forester. I do like the fact that they are both naturally aspirated. They both take forever to get up to speed. I do agree with your overall assessment of the Forester but I suspect that most Subaru owners aren't rock crawling on the weekend. The Forester is the best car for fading into the background. I'll stick to my CX5.
Yeah, my 2021 Forester Sport took about 4K in aftermarket upgrades to make it capable of doing anything. I highly recommend the Ironman 4x4 2” Suspension Lift.

Do yourself a favor, get a 4runner. You won't need anything else. America's most reliable vehicle (google it, it's fact), most versatile mid sized suv on american soil, and would rape the fuck out of a new bronco all day everyday. Both on and off road.

@@tri3pleagent it's not the same as the older ones. Ford is banking on its namesake, like they do with mustang and making that retarded suv using the mustang name. Ford has been steadily going downhill in quality since early 2000s. At least toyotas 4runners never really strayed from their original purpose, been outsourced to be built elsewhere, other than the world's best and most advanced automotive factory in japan. Have a massive aftermarket for them (like Jeep Wrangler does) lifted, slammed, stock. Doesn't matter, the 4runner is versatile as hell. As for asthetics, even the original ones in the 80s are still revelant today. Depends I guess. The new broncos are pretty much glorified crossovers. Modernized but a shadow of their heritage. I feel like wrangler. They focused only on excelling in 1-2 areas, (like power and maybe above off-road factory ability) and are mediocre everywhere else. 4runners get flack for being a little "dated" but why fix or change what's been proven for decades to last? The new ones are alright. Can always be modded to look and perform better. But the gen like mine (previous) is essentially the same underneath, minus some of the newer tech they have now. For thousands less. Mine is an 07, and would still run a new bronco into the ground. So, only time will tell if ford knocked it out of the park this time, or, is banking on its namesake to carry them. But chances are after a few years, they'll die off again like the originals did. Since they care more about making money and cutting corners, than they do actually making vehicles worth the price tag they sell them for.
If you actually plan to do some light off-roading or towing, the Bronco Sport will probably be the better bet. The Subaru has a CVT and, while CVTs have come leaps and bounds in reliability over the last couple years, they still don't do well under stress. Towing and/or spinning your wheels in the dirt is not something you want to be doing with a CVT if you want it to last a long time. If you don't plan on off-roading or towing, though, and you keep up on your scheduled maintenance, the Subaru should last a good long while and is really a much better value than the Bronco Sport. There really isn't a lot of value in the Bronco Sport outside of its impressive (for the class) off-road chops.
@@dethsyl907 they've improved significantly, but they still don't do well under stress. Which is why combining one with a full-time awd system is a very bad idea.
Everyone doesn't experience a winter like that and don't need a vehicle to do so. I fish and shoot quite a bit and the Bronco seems to be more suitable to getting to tough spots than the Subie. If I were in the market, it would be my choice between the two.

I wanna see a comparison between the top-spec Bronco Sport Badlands and the base 4-door Bronco (both about $33K). As much as I like the Sport, I still need some convincing that spending that much money on a subcompact crossover is worth it compared to a proper 4x4.

I've seen many videos that show a Subie vs a Badlands Edition. The Subie will not follow the Bronco. If you want to go "soft-roading", consider the Subie. But if you want to do more then that, get the Bronco.
99.9% of buyers for anyone of these cars will ever go off, I'd be surprised if anyone went down a gravel road. So this is sort of a bogus test to some extent. In day to day driving the Subaru is a better bet. Now if they would get rid of that CVT.

Why do you think it would be more fair if both vehicles were on the same tires it wouldn't make a lot of difference the bronco has a far superior four wheel drive system than the Subaru that's just facts.
The comparison should be on the tire it comes with from the factory. That's the actual fair way to do it. Anyone can throw a set of wranglers on a vehicle to make it punch above it's weight, bit that's another $1500+ and not indicative of the performance you'd get otherwise.

I sat in the Bronco Sport yesterday at a car show. He's totally right, that back seat has terrible leg room. The head room is fine. I'm about the same height as that guy and had similar experince with the back seat. I did liked it overall though. Just know that it's more like a 2 or 3 person car really, maybe more if the ones in the back are kids, but not really enough for adults. The one I sat in had the leather interior, so the steering wheel didn't feel as cheap as his, I think that is worth the cost if you were to get one.
The Subaru with standard tires was awesome! Put some falken peaks on there and I bet you it go head to head with the Bronco! Not to mention the Subarus are probably a better car for the highways and neighborhoods. A lower price to boot. 😜 I actually got to sit in a Subaru Forrester and it was extremely comfortable. I’m 6’2 and had plenty of room.
I mean, with all season tires its already going head to head with the Bronco Sport. Put comparable off-roading tires on there and it would be a piece of cake. I doubt the bronco would have been able to do what it did sans those tires though.
We bought my wife a 19 forester touring. Love the size so much I sold my 16 crosstrek and got me a 20 forester sport. I've put a 2 inch lift and taller falken wildpeaks on it. I really like this bronco sport but I'll probably hold on to my forester for now. I like the full size bronco but my wife is considering trading for the bronco sport. But probably not worth giving up the rear seat room and power lift gate on the forester.

Tried and true in all respects, I would go Forester- The resale on Subaru's is fantastic- We have had WRX's, Crosstrek and now an Outback- All were problem free- easy oil changes every 4k miles and tires...
I had my Subaru for almost 14 years until I bought a turbo Forester in 2016. Someone is still driving my little outback sport. Biggest mistake Subaru made was dumping the manual transmissions. I much prefer them. I do love the turbo in my 2016 though. Man, that thing is fun.
Me and my wife were interested in a Subaru but once we drove it with that CVT that was a definite no-go. That Ford looks too dang small for a family maybe that's just me me and my wife have a Tiguan and it's a little bit bigger than that and I wouldn't mind having something even bigger.
From what I've been reading, the CVT in the 2021 is a massive upgrade over previous generations. But if you wait, apparently Subaru is releasing a real offroad version of the Forester. Or you could just do what I did and got a great conditioned 2011 Forester XT. A bit more powerful.

If you're talking about the wilderness models, I don't think they'll be that much of an upgraded: They'll have more ground clearances, remaps and other factory tires but I don't think they'll change much other than that. And yeah older fozzy XTs are definitely an option! I drive a 06's 2.5L XT with 230hp + manual, they're great (old though).

Plus has worlds most sold truck (the hilux) in every country, but america as we don't get it at all. And another fact, f150 is NOT america's most sold pick up. (most resold maybe) as you cannot get an actual sales # for that series. As they bunch the entire f-series together, then claim most sold. If you just singled out f150 only, they don't sell anywhere near as much as they claim they do. You need to do your research instead of blindly following a brand that makes bank off of using smoke and mirror tactics, while simultaneously blowing smoke up their own ass. Dominates? My 07 4runner would rape the fuck out of this bronco. And it's a 15 year difference. Lol
Also, they tank resale value. Ford's in general depreciate far faster than most every other brand. So that said, the forester would retain value much longer than the bronco sport would. Ford is near bottom year after year on reliability ratings. So, especially being first generation of the new bronco, it's not going to last very long before massive recalls and failures start popping up. They don't lead in fuel economy, and this is WITH ecoboost and STILL getting worse fuel economy than competitors using larger N/A engines. My 4.0v6 produces same hp as this sport does, yet is still faster than this bronco. And it's stock. American 4.0 v6s of the time put out a pathetic 210hp, to toyotas 245, and Nissans 262. So let that sink in. Ford doesn't know how to produce power or torque for a fucking thing, without putting gas guzzling v8s or slapping not one but TWO turbos onto their engines to have that slight edge above competitors. Take those turbos away (like if they just up and failed) the vehicles wouldn't be left with enough power to move out of the way, let alone their own way. For Our Retard Drivers. Oh, and since 2014, Ford is LEAST american made out of ALL our american brands. At 55%. Fucking toyota is more american than our american brands and they're japanese. (80% for the tacoma, tundra, camry, corolla, rav4) so, if you think those are "cheap" and "low quality" keep in mind, we make them now. So that alone should tell ya something. Ford dominates nothing (at least not anymore). Bruh, my 4runner is STOCK and not even the V8 variant (this gen came with words most reliable and fuel efficient v8. Lots of million mile examples out there). And it can hold its own with a ecoboost or stock v8 (non turbo) mustang. But if I got the URD supercharger kit. Could rape mustang gts with it at the strip. And it's a 4000lb factory off-roadable body on frame suv. They're like Apple. Spend more on marketing than anything else. And place quantity over quality as it makes them more money. Ford is greedy, cuts corners like a mofo, and prays on the ignorant and blind followers it has, to keep in Bussines. For real, and Ford admitted itself to this. Take the f150 away, they go under. Cuz NOTHING they make, can even compete in sales with competition. Everyone else sells more suvs then they do, crossovers, hybrids (lol when an 80s honda can still get better fuel economy than Ford's hybrids do), sedans, economy cars, and sport cars. Etc. All Ford really has is their trucks. Same goes for GM and dodge. Jeep with it's wrangler. Take those away. And all go under. It's the sad truth.
To me this Bronco promises to be a good-looking, capable but unreliable rattle-box with uncomfortable road manners and dismal resale values (think Jeep Renegade).
People have their favorites and cars are no exception. If you’re a Ford or Chevy person so be it. Enjoy. Other people are Subaru particularly Forester loyalists who own them for years and swear by them. I just bought a 2020 Forester Sport. Love it. However while it’s good with snow it’s not a car to go seriously off-roading with. So with the right tires you can get up that hill, but it’s not the car to do that with as a past time. CX-5 is its competitor not a Ford Bronco. Also CVT same once you hate probably no changing your feeling. But the new ones for non gearheads are really pleasant to drive.
Yeah, that's the advantage of a CVT. When things go wrong they are a nightmare to fix, but they can give you better mileage when they work. Eventually the CVT will be industry standard.
This is like taking a motorcycle (bronco) to race with a bicycle ( Subaru). Bronco has all these different mode for offroad capabilities. On the other hand Subaru is a light offroad vehicle that only has X mode. Put some AT tires for the Subaru.

I think you missed the point. If you want an off road capable CUV with family friendly features you can't find anywhere else, like rubber floors (carpets get disgusting with kids) you only have one choice. If you want nicer on road, more leg room, get the Escape.

These vehicles are lent to reviewers by the manufacturers, if they wanted similar tires then they'd have to pay for them and it would cause issues because those aren't the tires that come with the vehicles. I think comparing based on what you're actually being sold is better.

2 years ago I got my first subdue. A Forster and it have all season tires and did very well in Wisconsin winters and went on trails fine. Of course trails are not propped off road

The Subaru shines in the snow and being a good family vehicle. I use to ski over 60 days a year and saw all the SUVs. I never saw a Subaru stuck but saw high end SUVs stuck all the time.
I've worked at a body shop in Wisconsin for 23 years now and wrecked Subaru's are our bread and butter during the winter. Usually you can chalk up awd/4x4 winter accidents to overconfidence, but the fact that we see so many more Subarus than any other brand makes me think that Subaru's symmetrical awd just isn't that great in the snow/ice. Probably because Subaru's don't have real torque vectoring. Hondas have real torque vectoring and we very rarely see them in the winter.
Granted, I realize that you are talking about stuck vehicles, and I have to admit I can't seem to recall seeing a Subaru stuck in the snow either.
I would think high end SUVs being stuck would be more a product of the driver than the vehicle assuming ground clearance and tire choice are similar.

I see a lot of people complaining about CVTs, but from what I have heard Subaru has worked the kinks out of it by now. I have a Crosstrek and have gotten so used to the CVT that I'd never consider another car without one, not feeling shifts all the time is awesome.

@@jamesbryan3253 I've heard a lot of people talk about that. The 2019 that we have shifts between those gears a lot quicker fyi. They keep improving them, I'm just on the fence as to whether or not I should get the fluid changed in my '16 Crosstrek.
With the cvt, my Forester is doing 40 mpg at 65 mph. For a brick-shape suv, that's not bat with full time AWD over that.

Just sold my bronco sport. Didn’t care for it. It did surprisingly well off road but was terrible for regular everyday driving. Harsh ride, cheap feeling, all sorts of rattles after 4000 miles, felt tiny inside, and had weird electrical issues. Traded for the new outback wilderness and actually made money on it.
These are crazy times. Sold a 2016 Crosstrek for what it was purchased for NEW 6 years ago.

Personally own a 2020 Subaru Sport. It's been a fantastic car for city-crawling, and long road trips. There's a cavern of space in the boot, and it's been a hell of a vehicle in the winter. While the Bronco is nice, the turbo on those cars will require heavier maintenance. I do applaud the higher HP that I wish the Forester had. Also if I had the choice, I'd trade out the CVT for a true gearbox. The transmission on the Subaru is mushy, but DOES get great gas mileage. For the price, tech, safety, and generally all around solid vehicle, the Forester is a sound deal. These Broncos are pretty watered down on the lower end comparing what you get with the forester for the same price technology wise. Honestly, this review would have been better matched if the subi had some more weight in her boot, along with some good off road tires. Otherwise, this was a reasonable comparison.

That's a lot of extra money when all you want is a (should-be-standard at this trim level) leather-wrapped steering wheel.
My 07 4runner is a base model, and has a leather wrapped stearing wheel. Produces same hp as the ecoboost bronco sport does, yet gets 0-60 in 7 secs flat. That is being heavier and larger, and no turbo necessary. Also gets better fuel economy as well. Cuz tbh. Nothing "eco" about ford's eco boost engines. When they legit get some of the worst fuel economy out of all their competitors using slightly larger NA engines. In fact, ford doesn't know how to produce decent hp or torque for a fucking thing, without it being a gas guzzling v8 or slapping turbos on them.
These are nice looking. However, bet you they will be discontinued like the originals were, after just a few years. Only Ford can take something once nice, and make it even worse in the long run. Other than their trucks (which barely hold their own as it is) they suck ass in every other catagory. Besides, nothing Ford/Dodge/Jeep/GM makes comes close to Subaru's awd system (aka worlds best), or toyotas 4x4 system (worlds best and most advanced 4x4). That's why they have to do comparisons like this. Pitting them against vehicles that aren't even in the same catagory/class. Just to make their subpar vehicles appear better than they actually are.
Where are the Bronco vs 4runner videos at? Still not a direct comparison. As one is a legit suv and other a glorified crossover. Oh, not many, cuz 4runner would shit all over it, all day every day. A base model 4x4 4runner would still hold its own against the highest off road model ford has for the bronco. That right their speaks volumes. Just sayin.
But I've noticed with our american brands (we own an 11 subaru forester, and they're sorta the same in this regard) they like to charge you extra, for things that come standard in most other makes. I.e. my base model 4runner has a sunroof (standard for this year), f/r side airbags (were optional on all but limited 03-06), climate control, steering wheel audio controls, projector headlights, fogs, L.E.D. taillights, advanced traction control (atrac for 4x4 models, my 2wd only has a 2wd version of that system), downhill assist, full underbody skid plates, full sized matching spare tire, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.
Yet even today, you couldn't get all of this on something from ford, gm, dodge, jeep or subaru, unless you got a higher trim. (Like wife's base 2011 forester. It's 4years newer, and doesn't have a sunroof, climate control, steering wheel audio controls, projector headlights or l.e.d tails, or even fogs and plastic steering wheel (yep. Learned subarus base is legit bare bones base). But they come equipped on next model up. Shit like that.
So I agree with the other comment. At that price point, these things should be standard, not an redicolous extra cost to get shit that would come on a cheaper base model from another make.
Biggest difference between the two off-road besides the tire performance I saw was how much more articulation the Ford had. They both lifted wheels but the subaru's were like 3 feet off the ground in some places.
I would actually be interested to see how the non Badlands do off road as all the reviews I have seen have been of the Badland trim.

Non Badlands are good off roaders as well just not as dedicated. A standard Bronco would be great for light trails, driving through fields and so on. It would be nowhere near as good as the old Bronco though that could out run a mile long police tail at normal speeds.

@@bighands69 There is no comparison between the Bronco sport and ANY older bronco. Other than the name of course. Older Bronco's were TRUCKS. These Bronco sports are unibody CARS. And the non Badlands versions have LESS clearance than virtually ANY stock Subaru SUV, and no electronic simulated lockers, which is really the only strong advantage the Sport Badlands has over the Subaru. Any modern base model Subaru Outback or Forester has more clearance and tow capacity than any non Badlands sport. And I believe the sport STILL has less tow capacity, because as I mentioned, it is built on a CAR platform, not a truck. You can't evoke memories of older Bronco's in the same sentence as newer Bronco's unless you are talking about the REAL Bronco's that are full sized, and built on dedicated frames. Databyter
The Wildpeaks make a huge difference when put on the Forester. I get you're testing with stock equipment based on trim... but it would be interesting to see if the right tires would have made a difference with X-mode off. I would love a turbo in the Forester, but it does what I need. Had a legacy before my 19 Forester, and get the same mileage out of the Forester as I did the legacy.
My daily driver is a modified WRX. We recently got a '21 Forester w/ the paddle shifters that will see very little use, BUT, the NA 2.5 is actually more responsive than I imagined. For normal people driving, it's fine.
@@icemantuck2638 traded my forester for a crv hybrid in April… and traded that for a Legacy XT in October. The power is definitely night and day from the forester. The 2.5 is fine, and peppy enough off the line but does run out of breath for passing power. Of course the Geyser blue Wilderness OB I really wanted but wasn’t ordering and waiting for at the risk of used car values dropping to where I would have been upside down… showed up 3 weeks later. Ehh this one is back to being leased, so I’ll be see what I want and get again in 3 years. The tech in the crv and it’s design just grew to irritate me beyond what I could handle. Of course, all of this was before finding and starting a WFH job, so now I’m sitting here with a 15k/year lease that’s gonna probably have less than 20k on it when the lease is up. Oh well I may have some equity in it by the end…
Unfortunately reviewers don't usually have the latitude to switch out tires as most serious customers would do for more serious offroad use. And Subaru offers low profile wheels and tires as a ROAD and LUXURY upgrade, and often these are put into offroad tests, which is annoying to say the least. I have 30" Falken Trail AT's on my Subaru Wilderness, and it would smoke that Sport most likely. The only advantage it has is the simulated electronic lockers, which IS a serious advantage. But yes, the tires on the Forester in this video might as well have been Ice Skates for this test. The Bronco was better outfitted for this particular test, but likely would have been Trounced in a Road test. With some good Falken's on the Forester, and possibly smaller wheels and taller profile tires, this would have been an entirely different test, and it would have been even money. But the Subaru wins overall. Despite the admitted advantage of the lockers on the Badlands version, the Subaru, as a BASE model, would beat every other trim of the Sport which do not have the same clearance and have no electronic lockers, making the Subaru base model superior offroad to the non Badlands models, with the right shoes. My teenage sons bought a 15 Forrester, at my instigation. I feel it’s a good reliable safe car. The cvt is something I’d reconsider, and the x-mode has been pretty unreliable in the deep snow we had according to my one son. Mind you that could be driver inexperience as well.
I bought a 21 bronco badlands and for off road and snow it’s light years ahead of the suby. I agree it loses in rear seat space mind you my 6’3, 300 lb power lifter son managed it ok ... until getting out 😂

That’s a poor design. You should be able to “dial in” the speed you want on the go. (Mine is adjustable from 1km/h to 30km/h using the cruise control buttons).

@@Albuermeduardo sounds clunky and awkward. If you want to slow for a bit and revert back to the set speed you can’t. You’d have to brake and then accelerate again. A decent system lets you override it temporarily (brake or accelerate) and then revert back to the setting you had prior.
Sadly modern Subaru’s aren’t good at anything anymore.

My 07 4runner is a base model. And would shit all over the new bronco sport. And mine is a 2wd only model. I get better fuel economy, faster 0-60 and that's STOCK, without need for a turbo or two. Same hp, but more torque (cuz it's a legit suv, not a glorified crossover.)
These won't last long, just like the originals didn't. I'll admit they do look cool. But that's about it. Ford doesn't know how to build good vehicles anymore. Not since early 2000. People simply don’t understand how overkill the bronco badlands version is. People think if they are going on a road trip or “camping” they need a locking differential, 10inches of ground clearance and huge off-road tires. Subaru has a perfect balance of on road performance and off-road confidence that 99% of people would be happy with. This class of vehicle is simply a show toy so people know you are adventurous and unlike the rest of society.

Rumor is, they're discontinuing all models (since pretty much EVERYONE outsells them), except their f-series (take the f150 away, ford goes under. They themselves admitted this), explorer (despite the fact it should of been discontinued decades ago since it's been a factory clunker since introduction), and mustang (only due to its cult following, not actual to being a good buy). As everything else barely sells. So, they now use the bronco name like they did for that mustang suv, to re-sell rebadged and slightly changed models all over again. Like how this sport is pretty much an escape with a different body. So, it's ford's way to continue selling their trash that didn't sell well to begin with, by using well known names from models that have a massive cult following in order to sell them.

That, and despite their "eco" boost engines. They still get subpar fuel economy when compared to competitors. Like my own 07 4runner gets better fuel economy than the new explorers do, and it's on AT tires to boot. (stock sized.) However I did once have 275/55/17 BFG Mud terrains on it. No running stock lift. Same ones that came on the older jeep rubicon from factory. Absolutely annihilated my fuel economy. Lol
But they brag up and down about how great their ecoboost is. But it's getting fuel economy like their NA v8s did. On top of if they were to fail (and they will) they don't have enough power to get out of their own way. As they use much too small engines for the vehicles they are put in. That, and Ford really doesn't know how to produce power and torque for a damn thing, without slapping not one but TWO turbos on them.
If you are a serious off roader, then obviously go for the Bronco, but if you want a all-around family vehicle with proven all wheel drive, then Subi is the obvious choice. Ford quality is another concern.
If you’re a serious off roader, yes Bronco. But the vehicle reviewed here isn’t the Bronco. It’s Bronco Sport. Ford marketing really is top notch. Have to give them credit for that. They are using the bronco name to basically push a mini escape to masses with the illusion you’re getting some crazy off road capable machine.

It is unfair to compare engine power without comparing economy. Americans tend to go for bigger and more powerful engines but half their work is hauling extra fuel while battling limited range.
CVT. Constantly variable Transmission gives better fuel economy and the engine usually runs at low revs, maybe 2000 rpm which reduces engine wear. Low fuel consumption is a major criteria for modern car design. High speed and high power is America living in the past.
The Subaru boxer engine is a flat four engine which keeps the centre of gravity down low increasing safety at highway speeds and off road.
I believe people comparing vehicles should learn the correct settings and driving techniques and use them to show what the car can do. Turning off electronic and computer controls misrepresents the design and capabilities of the cars.
It is unfair to only test the off-road capabilities of the cars as design is constant compromise. One manufacturer may opt for excellent on road handling and adequate off road ability, while the competition may demand excellent off road ability and adequate on road performance and handling. The Subaru emphasises sand and snow in its off road computerised settings and you tested the cars on rough rock climbing conditions with steep hills and large holes. The Bronco seemed to be in it’s element in these conditions.
Off road tests require off road tyres. For a fair test the tyres should be the same for both vehicles, then another test with the manufacturers recommended tyres for those conditions.
I think I would save a few thousand, buy the Subbie, enjoy better resale value and dependability. Oh wait, I did.
Um, better resale value? Do your homework, resale on box broncos is insane. Broncos are legends. Maybe I wouldn't get the sport but the new bronco, that is a GET. They are priced close to the sport and come with 35" tires, lockers, and a lot of oh my! Jeep is dead.

The old bronco is a classic and only held value because they killed off the brand (and OJ Simpson). The new Bronco is just a metal box stuck on a Ranger frame (which is a failure of a truck in the USA) and doesn't even have a solid front axle. Serious off roaders will continue to buy Jeeps.

I love the look of the outside of the Bronco Sport. I test drove one, its smaller than more Ford Escape and you can tell on the inside, but it still feels more like an SUV than the Escape. The backseat is tight, my son is 5'10, he can barely fit in the back.

A review out of Russia tested the top of the top in SUVs and the difference was the quality of the anti-locking software to lock the spinning wheel and transfer power to the wheels with grip. Even the SUVs with massive wheel articulation struggled against those with advanced traction control software / modes. The channel used tough trails and tested each vehicle with minimal traction aids and added them as the limits of standard traction were maxed-out.

My buddy had a 2015 forester 6 speed manual and that car surprised the shit out of me on its capability. We took it on a beach and that thing just plowed through a foot of loose sand without a problem on stock yokohama bald tires. Its wasn't the fastest car but off road it was a beast. It just had traction control no xmode.

I ended up buying a Subaru Wilderness and putting oversized tires on it which serves my needs perfectly. My tires have more grip than those stock ones in the video. I know it is not a rock crawler, but I don't crawl rocks. I do appreciate the over 10" clearance I have, the very decent MPG, and it's ability to power thru sand snow and mud, all of which I have personally done. Nobody is kidding me. And for those that DID buy the Bronco and waited a year and paid too much, congratulations, you have more dough than I do. But I will most likely be buying one of those Full sized Bronco's used at a 40% depreciation or more in a few years, so please don't scratch it up too much. Never mind, you are probably working 6 days a week to pay for it. I'll take it off your hands with little trail use, and have more time and money to have fun with it. Nobody is kidding me. But I also know what my Outback is capable of, and right now, it is capable of 100% of the tasks I have asked of it. Not a theory, real life. If and when used Bronco's become available en masse, I'll pick up one of those as well. As far as the TINY Bronco, it is too small for my needs, and MOST of those models can NOT keep up with a Subaru offroad. Only the Badlands, which are pretty badass in the micro Bronco, Subaru, class, with the simulated locker and the higher clearance is competative, and likely better for offroad. I'm NOT saying that a Subaru is BETTER than a Bronco (MINI Sport Badlands) Offroad, although it's close, and when it comes to the MINI Bronco SPORT NON Badlands, it IS arguably, because they don't have as much clearance and they don't have the electronic simulated lockers which gives the Badlands version the only advantage it has over the Subaru.
Other than that, the Subaru has better specs, even for offroad, as well as more room, and better towing... But yes, I DID choose a Subaru for a multi-purpose vehicle that I can commute in when working, and camp and explore when I am off. These are not stories, they are my life.
My Wilderness is set up for camping. I have a power station, a sleeping area, an electric cooler, solar panels, and Still HAVE lots of leftover cargo area and room for seating 2-3 other people. I have pictures and videos. The Sport would not fit all that stuff with room to spare, and extra seating.
So sorry you can't comprehend that not everyone can make a Bronco work with their lifestyle. If I had unlimited funds, I would have Bought a (full sized) Bronco too. I love them. But it just wouldn't have worked for me MOST of the time, when I would just be commuting, paying MORE in gas expense, having less comfort and luxury, inferior handling.
The times where I DO go offroading whether at the beach, the desert, or the Mountains, my Subaru has got me where I need to go. I have been in deep soft sand where 4x4 trucks often get stuck, same with mud and snow. My vehicle doesn't have a low range which sucks and means that I have to stress the torque converter thru tough spots, but honestly MOST of offroading is NOT a rough spot, it's mostly about clearance and traction. . I'm not rock crawling, but I do go thru areas where a car or typical SUV would immediately get stuck.
Obviously if I had a Full sized Bronco, I might have chosen different, and more difficult lines, because they are more capable. But with the Bronco Sport Badlands in this video, I'd be choosing the SAME lines, because although the lockers give it some advantage, the Subaru is still in the same capablity range, especially if it had better tires than the model in this video.
My Subaru Wilderness has 30" Falken Trail AT's. on a 17x7.5" Wheels and it would give the Sport Badlands a run for it's money on any trail with it's higher torque and lower gearing.

This is MY truth. It cannot be disputed just because YOU can't comprehend compromise. And keep in mind that MOST of the Bronco Sports are NOT as capable as the Badlands versions in this video, which are not the majority of these vehicles sold.
Unless it is the more expensive and rare badlands version, the Subaru will be just as good or probably better, It has higher clearance, more towing capacity, etc. And that is for the BASE models. That's just black and white specs, argue with that.
And being a real person who has had half a dozen Fords and Half a dozen Subaru, and have used some of them offroad extensively, I don't consider you an expert in this area. Maybe when you get your drivers license. Let us know Mkay?

I recently sat in a Bronco Sport. The interior is embarrassingly cheap. The materials, fit/finish, and build quality were all substandard.
The interior seems good and practical to me. All the reviewers said it is good. So i disagree.

The console is soft touch, the passenger seat is electric not manual like in the toyota rav4..I disagree with you. The bronco sport badlands is more expensive because it is an overall well equipped vehicle and with real off road capabilities. I don’t see that they would undersell to please you. If you don’t like it, no problem, but there will be a lot of persons that will like it. The reviews are at 95% very good, with nearly not a bad thing except the price. But Ford always do employee price -4000$ at some moment of the year. It is just a question of time. And their interest rate is not bad for a brand new vehicle 2.99 60 months. Toyota do 4.99 or more sometimes. You need to wait a year or two for Toyota vehicles and they don’t do any rebate. And there are some issues in the hyundai and kia and toyota cars, (car take fires, transmission, engine noise, heating very poor, door handle and roof rack not solid. The bronco sport is solid with rugged materials, good transmission, solid engine powerful, solid floor with metal bash plates and a more solid suspension, transmission 4x4, the road ride is good on normal and off road. You cannot say that from the korean and japanese cars.
Same. I test drove base Bronco Sport as no Badlands or Big Bend available. I would never buy the car. It reminded me of an old Maverick. The fit and finish was plastic and cheap. Maybe Badlands is better but they quoted 39k for it. No thanks. I like the styling and outside look though. I will keep my Outback and wait for Forester Wilderness to test drive.

It should be reiterated that when observing rear seat space in the Bronco, the reviewer is, as he said, 6'4". The driver's seat was pushed way back.
I’ll take the suby any day over a ford product. Why you ask? It all comes down to long term reliability that matters and Subaru will win that battle…hands down.
Not a Subaru fan not any dealers in my area. Bought a Badlands area 51 Bronco love it last trip got 30.5 MPG. Badlands edition rides and handles better than the lower models and has bigger tires also has a larger engine 1.5 lower 2.0 upper.
Subaru can give 32-34mpg if you keep it under 65mph on highways. Over 70mph, it drops below 30.
I would LOOOOVE to see a side by side of the 2021 Subaru Forester Sport and literally any other mid-size SUV in the snow, both with the SAME type of tires. Subaru’s symmetrical AWD, and X-Mode offroad system, is better than anything you can find. I’ve taken my 21’ Forester Sport in the snow and driven past all kinds of “offroad” vehicles stuck in the snow and had to tow a lot of them out. Fords, Dodges, Toyotas, Land Rovers, BMW X Series’, Jeeps, Chevys… they literally all get stuck lol it’s hilarious.

I own a crosstrek, but I had one the badlands for a couple of weeks and I would consider the bronco sport over a subaru since its basically one on steroids. With how small it is it really doesnt feel small on the inside.
I’m debating between a Bronco Sport Big Bend, Forester Sport, and Forester Wilderness. I need to test drive all 3.

Note the quite different line the driver took in the in both cars. He said it was the same line, but the far right line was a much easier line with much less suspension flex required. I feel lied to. If you say it is the same, make sure it is the same.

I have a Mazda CX5 and my wife has a 2020 Forester. I do like the fact that they are both naturally aspirated. They both take forever to get up to speed. I do agree with your overall assessment of the Forester but I suspect that most Subaru owners aren't rock crawling on the weekend. The Forester is the best car for fading into the background. I'll stick to my CX5.
Yeah, my 2021 Forester Sport took about 4K in aftermarket upgrades to make it capable of doing anything. I highly recommend the Ironman 4x4 2” Suspension Lift.
Probably could've sold it in this market and bought a Wilderness edition for the same you put in it.
I'd take the Bronco in this one. It's just more capable for stuff that I do.

@@tmklunk same thing with subies and the CVT. I'm a subie man but that bronco is definitely capable for that, you can't truely complain about these kind of things (clutches, ect) in offroad.
Do yourself a favor, get a 4runner. You won't need anything else. America's most reliable vehicle (google it, it's fact), most versatile mid sized suv on american soil, and would rape the fuck out of a new bronco all day everyday. Both on and off road.

@@tri3pleagent it's not the same as the older ones. Ford is banking on its namesake, like they do with mustang and making that retarded suv using the mustang name. Ford has been steadily going downhill in quality since early 2000s. At least toyotas 4runners never really strayed from their original purpose, been outsourced to be built elsewhere, other than the world's best and most advanced automotive factory in japan. Have a massive aftermarket for them (like Jeep Wrangler does) lifted, slammed, stock. Doesn't matter, the 4runner is versatile as hell. As for asthetics, even the original ones in the 80s are still revelant today. Depends I guess. The new broncos are pretty much glorified crossovers. Modernized but a shadow of their heritage. I feel like wrangler. They focused only on excelling in 1-2 areas, (like power and maybe above off-road factory ability) and are mediocre everywhere else. 4runners get flack for being a little "dated" but why fix or change what's been proven for decades to last? The new ones are alright. Can always be modded to look and perform better. But the gen like mine (previous) is essentially the same underneath, minus some of the newer tech they have now. For thousands less. Mine is an 07, and would still run a new bronco into the ground. So, only time will tell if ford knocked it out of the park this time, or, is banking on its namesake to carry them. But chances are after a few years, they'll die off again like the originals did. Since they care more about making money and cutting corners, than they do actually making vehicles worth the price tag they sell them for.
The Ford Bronco badlands is like 40k meanwhile the Subaru Tops out at A out 32k
What about long term reliability and cost of ownership?
If you actually plan to do some light off-roading or towing, the Bronco Sport will probably be the better bet. The Subaru has a CVT and, while CVTs have come leaps and bounds in reliability over the last couple years, they still don't do well under stress. Towing and/or spinning your wheels in the dirt is not something you want to be doing with a CVT if you want it to last a long time.
If you don't plan on off-roading or towing, though, and you keep up on your scheduled maintenance, the Subaru should last a good long while and is really a much better value than the Bronco Sport. There really isn't a lot of value in the Bronco Sport outside of its impressive (for the class) off-road chops.

Put on AT tires on the forester and it too will go further.
Put them both in MN in winter. Forester wins, it is not a rock climber as you can see just by looking at it.
Everyone doesn't experience a winter like that and don't need a vehicle to do so. I fish and shoot quite a bit and the Bronco seems to be more suitable to getting to tough spots than the Subie. If I were in the market, it would be my choice between the two.

I wanna see a comparison between the top-spec Bronco Sport Badlands and the base 4-door Bronco (both about $33K). As much as I like the Sport, I still need some convincing that spending that much money on a subcompact crossover is worth it compared to a proper 4x4.
Branco base model will be better for sure. It is full size off road SUV.

I've seen many videos that show a Subie vs a Badlands Edition. The Subie will not follow the Bronco. If you want to go "soft-roading", consider the Subie. But if you want to do more then that, get the Bronco.
99.9% of buyers for anyone of these cars will ever go off, I'd be surprised if anyone went down a gravel road.
So this is sort of a bogus test to some extent.
In day to day driving the Subaru is a better bet. Now if they would get rid of that CVT.

Why do you think it would be more fair if both vehicles were on the same tires it wouldn't make a lot of difference the bronco has a far superior four wheel drive system than the Subaru that's just facts.
The comparison should be on the tire it comes with from the factory. That's the actual fair way to do it. Anyone can throw a set of wranglers on a vehicle to make it punch above it's weight, bit that's another $1500+ and not indicative of the performance you'd get otherwise.

@@kevinwest1607 Really? That's now what we saw in this video though. Both vehicle needed momentum on their first attempt, and once they activated their electronics, the Suby with bald tires did better than the Bronco with AT tires.

I drive a Toyota Corolla XSE. I drive for practicality, so I'd go Forester over Bronco.
The worst thing about the Subaru is the CVT, which is a no-go for me regardless of ANYTHING else.
I sat in the Bronco Sport yesterday at a car show. He's totally right, that back seat has terrible leg room. The head room is fine. I'm about the same height as that guy and had similar experince with the back seat. I did liked it overall though. Just know that it's more like a 2 or 3 person car really, maybe more if the ones in the back are kids, but not really enough for adults. The one I sat in had the leather interior, so the steering wheel didn't feel as cheap as his, I think that is worth the cost if you were to get one.

The Subaru with standard tires was awesome! Put some falken peaks on there and I bet you it go head to head with the Bronco! Not to mention the Subarus are probably a better car for the highways and neighborhoods. A lower price to boot. 😜
I actually got to sit in a Subaru Forrester and it was extremely comfortable. I’m 6’2 and had plenty of room.
I mean, with all season tires its already going head to head with the Bronco Sport. Put comparable off-roading tires on there and it would be a piece of cake. I doubt the bronco would have been able to do what it did sans those tires though.
We bought my wife a 19 forester touring. Love the size so much I sold my 16 crosstrek and got me a 20 forester sport. I've put a 2 inch lift and taller falken wildpeaks on it. I really like this bronco sport but I'll probably hold on to my forester for now. I like the full size bronco but my wife is considering trading for the bronco sport. But probably not worth giving up the rear seat room and power lift gate on the forester.

How would the Ford Bronco Sport or Subaru Forester "off-road" crossovers handle the classic Edmunds Death Valley torture test on a simple washboard road?
Tried and true in all respects, I would go Forester- The resale on Subaru's is fantastic- We have had WRX's, Crosstrek and now an Outback- All were problem free- easy oil changes every 4k miles and tires...

I had my Subaru for almost 14 years until I bought a turbo Forester in 2016. Someone is still driving my little outback sport. Biggest mistake Subaru made was dumping the manual transmissions. I much prefer them. I do love the turbo in my 2016 though. Man, that thing is fun.

Me and my wife were interested in a Subaru but once we drove it with that CVT that was a definite no-go. That Ford looks too dang small for a family maybe that's just me me and my wife have a Tiguan and it's a little bit bigger than that and I wouldn't mind having something even bigger.
From what I've been reading, the CVT in the 2021 is a massive upgrade over previous generations. But if you wait, apparently Subaru is releasing a real offroad version of the Forester.
Or you could just do what I did and got a great conditioned 2011 Forester XT. A bit more powerful.

If you're talking about the wilderness models, I don't think they'll be that much of an upgraded: They'll have more ground clearances, remaps and other factory tires but I don't think they'll change much other than that.
And yeah older fozzy XTs are definitely an option! I drive a 06's 2.5L XT with 230hp + manual, they're great (old though).

Toyota is #1 globally in auto sales btw. Plus has worlds most sold truck (the hilux) in every country, but america as we don't get it at all. And another fact, f150 is NOT america's most sold pick up. (most resold maybe) as you cannot get an actual sales # for that series. As they bunch the entire f-series together, then claim most sold. If you just singled out f150 only, they don't sell anywhere near as much as they claim they do.
You need to do your research instead of blindly following a brand that makes bank off of using smoke and mirror tactics, while simultaneously blowing smoke up their own ass.

Also, they tank resale value. Ford's in general depreciate far faster than most every other brand. So that said, the forester would retain value much longer than the bronco sport would.
Ford is near bottom year after year on reliability ratings. So, especially being first generation of the new bronco, it's not going to last very long before massive recalls and failures start popping up.
They don't lead in fuel economy, and this is WITH ecoboost and STILL getting worse fuel economy than competitors using larger N/A engines.
My 4.0v6 produces same hp as this sport does, yet is still faster than this bronco. And it's stock. American 4.0 v6s of the time put out a pathetic 210hp, to toyotas 245, and Nissans 262. So let that sink in.
Ford doesn't know how to produce power or torque for a fucking thing, without putting gas guzzling v8s or slapping not one but TWO turbos onto their engines to have that slight edge above competitors. Take those turbos away (like if they just up and failed) the vehicles wouldn't be left with enough power to move out of the way, let alone their own way.

Ford dominates nothing (at least not anymore). Bruh, my 4runner is STOCK and not even the V8 variant (this gen came with words most reliable and fuel efficient v8. Lots of million mile examples out there). And it can hold its own with a ecoboost or stock v8 (non turbo) mustang. But if I got the URD supercharger kit. Could rape mustang gts with it at the strip. And it's a 4000lb factory off-roadable body on frame suv.
They're like Apple. Spend more on marketing than anything else. And place quantity over quality as it makes them more money. Ford is greedy, cuts corners like a mofo, and prays on the ignorant and blind followers it has, to keep in Bussines. For real, and Ford admitted itself to this. Take the f150 away, they go under. Cuz NOTHING they make, can even compete in sales with competition. Everyone else sells more suvs then they do, crossovers, hybrids (lol when an 80s honda can still get better fuel economy than Ford's hybrids do), sedans, economy cars, and sport cars. Etc. All Ford really has is their trucks. Same goes for GM and dodge. Jeep with it's wrangler. Take those away. And all go under. It's the sad truth.

To me this Bronco promises to be a good-looking, capable but unreliable rattle-box with uncomfortable road manners and dismal resale values (think Jeep Renegade).
I like the look of the Bronco Sport but it does remind me somewhat of the 1990's Land Rover Freelander (mk1) styling wise - no bad thing I guess.
People have their favorites and cars are no exception. If you’re a Ford or Chevy person so be it. Enjoy. Other people are Subaru particularly Forester loyalists who own them for years and swear by them. I just bought a 2020 Forester Sport. Love it. However while it’s good with snow it’s not a car to go seriously off-roading with. So with the right tires you can get up that hill, but it’s not the car to do that with as a past time. CX-5 is its competitor not a Ford Bronco. Also CVT same once you hate probably no changing your feeling. But the new ones for non gearheads are really pleasant to drive.
Most people are getting around 24 MPG with the Badlands trim of the Bronco sport. The Subaru will deliver 27-28 MPG and a much longer range.
Yeah, that's the advantage of a CVT. When things go wrong they are a nightmare to fix, but they can give you better mileage when they work. Eventually the CVT will be industry standard.
This is like taking a motorcycle (bronco) to race with a bicycle ( Subaru). Bronco has all these different mode for offroad capabilities. On the other hand Subaru is a light offroad vehicle that only has X mode. Put some AT tires for the Subaru.
It seems to me a bad comparison, the competitor in that category is the Subaru forester wilderness.
