  • This is a review on my Dewalt Track Saw. It has been a great addition to my shop and in many cases is a much easier option for breaking down sheet goods. I have zero complaints about this track saw and hands down recommend it to anyone.

    Nice, quick review. I am always squaring my CS base with my blade and it's a PITA. For now I am using clamps, guide and offsetting the guide to the with of the base to the kerf of the blade and it is very time consuming. I've been doing it for almost 2 decades and I'm sick of the time I am wasting. I'm sure you are familiar with that process. This looks like it's super fast.
    I have a couple questions, if you wouldn't mind answering.
    1. How square does it cut the edge?
    1A. Do you need to square the blade to the base at any point during the time that you have had the saw?
    2. how close does it cut to your marks?
    3. If you are making a bevel cut, is there an offset that needs to be accounted for or does the saw compensate for the bevel angle?
    4. Does the Powertec track have any slop?
    5. Are there any adjustments you needed to make to compensate for anything?
    Thank you in advance. Really want a track saw and I am fully invested in the DeWalt battery system so I figured that I would stick with it for obvious reasons.

    You’ve got some great comments, like parallel guides. I tried to build kitchen cabinets and the repeatable size is so crucial, but you used pre finished ply, which is a huge plus for tracks, and the dust extraction, not only for health, but the quality of cut, by removing material so the saw doesn’t cut it twice, this really helps on router tables

    ive got the festool and love it for big stuff, i was the dewalt now too haha. Get a parallel guide and you will be set.

    Congrats. I'm a big track saw fan. Hardly ever use the table saw anymore honestly. Once you have one you realize how nice it is to have around and tend to use it for more and more.
    One piece of advice. You're cutting on the "wrong" side. Your best side of the cut should always be the side the track is laying on. The rubber from the anti-chip strip on the track helps prevent tear out on the piece it's in contact with. The piece you kept is on the unsupported side of the blade so it's likely to have more chipping than the other piece. This becomes very apparent with something like melamine.
    Also use the dust collection. That's one of the biggest advantages of a track saw. Does a great job containing it all. World of difference from a traditional circular saw. If you don't at least hookup a bag to that dust port you're really missing out. Plus all that dust will eventually gum up the rubber on the bottom of the track. Then you have to use clamps because the friction doesn't work so well.
    Happy building.

      But can a track saw cut a 2x4 in half like a table saw can?

    • @BeardedBuildsCo
      @BeardedBuildsCo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes if you set up right. I’m assuming you are talking about ripping down the length of a 2x4. Set two 2x4s next to each other so it supports the track on both sides and then line up the edge of the track on the 2x4 you want to rip and get to it. A table saw in the process is probably a better option but I look to the track saw especially for sheet goods.

    I ordered the bare tool as well for cyber Monday but the DeWalt track is sold out everywhere. The Powertec looks the same but I’ve read a few complaints about the rubber strip not sticking and the two pieces have slop when aligned to form 1 long track. Have you had any issues with the track itself ?

    • @BeardedBuildsCo
      @BeardedBuildsCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did have one of the strips start to separate but I used some hot glue to re-secure it. As far as having slop, I have had no issues. You have to make sure to do a proper set up on the saw so that it holds snug to any track that you get and that should take care of that issue.

    Is it hard to change blades? Does it have a 45 stop? Any chip out?

    • @BeardedBuildsCo
      @BeardedBuildsCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blade changes are about as easy as a regular circular saw. I get almost no chip out and yes there is adjustment up to 47 degrees. I made these floating shelves 100% with the track saw.

    hey mate, what are your thoughts on this saw after 2 years, I'm looking at getting a track saw but haven't decided between this or the 36v Makita, and most reviews put this down because of chipping, plunge mechanism and accuracy. Cheers

    • @BeardedBuildsCo
      @BeardedBuildsCo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love mine and use it almost everyday. I assume the people that are having the issues that you mentioned probably did not set up the saw when they got it. There are adjustments on the bottom to snug up the fit on the track. Also if you are using the wrong blade for and application you can get chipping. For me it has been smooth sailing.

      Yep! Most of the time there is not issue with it moving. It is designed to resists movement once it is put down. There is still an option to slide a special clamp in the bottom if you felt it necessary.

    if you need to cut anything longer than 8 feet you will have tons of trouble. you need to buy extension track and they don't stay straight, fairly easy to cut a smile on a long cut. there is no way to secure middle of flimsy track to work surface. very unimpressed with this design. i get better results with steel fence and a skil saw.
