    Hey Lathrix,
Small shields don't have the obstruction thing, so use those internally.
Stacked small shields and thick armour can be REDICULOUSLY good for the resources, the shields tank most at the cost of energy, if they go down (disruptors or pure DPS), the armour tanks a bit, and then the shields go back up.

Hello Lathrix! I am here to provide some detailed tips to remove some of your uncertainty and ensure you can slap 6 Deck Cannons while maintaining them with ease in the future!
Love to see this come back, I was tempted to grab the game years ago thanks to you but glad its out on steam and have found myself nearing the maximum difficulty in Career.
    1) If you specialize your crew, you can run any ship with what I call a "skeleton crew" which is 50% of the suggested. This is very important as you WILL have issues getting enough crew thanks to Fame or at least I did.
1-A) I recommend creating Gunners who do nothing but operate weapons so they don't get off like idiots to resupply it.
1-B) I recommend creating engine operators/maintainers who do basically nothing but ensure your engines are topped off. They can obviously do everything else but engines are priority.
1-C) You will want to have a role that prioritizes feeding ammo to your Deck Cannons and maybe another role to transport ammo to the storage behind said cannons. They are a menace to keep fed!
    2) Armor in this game is absolutely amazing even though it gets blown off CONSTANTLY! If there is salvage around you but not in storage, YOU CAN STILL USE IT FOR BUILDING! So some fresh steel still nearly molten after getting slammed by cannons can be instantly used to repair your armor! Don't be afraid to have 4+ rows of armor! Placing them in a brick-wall stricture is optimal by the way when using 2x1 armor.
    3) Putting the large shield behind armor is not a bad idea and I even do it on my tank ship. Armor is super cheap to replace as steel is EVERYWHERE so when the armor fails, the large shield comes in as another form of defense. It also ensures it comes in latter in the fight where there is hopefully less DPS from the enemy which can overwhelm the shield(s).
    4) Deck Cannons are a menace to supply with ammo! Forget about storing mass amounts of ammo, STORE MASS AMOUNT OF SULFUR! Sulfur is 5x more compact as ammo and you won't need too many factories to ensure you don't run dry. This will ensure you won't need to make a ship MADE OF STORAGE.
    5) Deck Cannons fire AN ENTIRE STACK OF AMMO IN A SINGLE VOLLEY! 20 Ammo per volley! 2x2 storage? That can hold only 4 volleys of Deck Cannon fire!
    6) Sulfur is the best friend of Deck Cannons! Non-volatile and most importantly: easy to store compared to ammo. Unless you want an oversized ship, you want to store mostly Sulfur on your main ship, not ammo! Sulfur is your ammo storage, which then gets turned into ammo and then carried to a bulk magazine which then supplies the Deck Cannons. You can make supply chains by pressing V and clicking a button in the bottom left corner.
    7) Range is completely relative! Based on the range indicator, the weapon can only fire at blocks in that range. This is important for railguns as you may want to target the core of an enemy, so you will need to get a little closer as the intended target may be out of range while other blocks are not.
    8) You get 100% resources from removing a placed block. When this is not the case, the game makes it clear and even (by default), requires you to confirm the removal of blocks that will give you less return (which are only blocks you get and repair from a previously destroyed ship).
    9) So long as a wreck has an air lock, it can be necromanced! Nothing else matters (maybe an accessible crew quarters does but I have not encountered a situation where there was not a quarters somewhere in the wreck).
    10) When making a scrapping ship, STORAGE is all that matters! Mining lasers can make scrapping blocks faster but in the end, you WILL need A LOT of cargo capacity. You may even want a single ship for nothing more than scrapping and storing steel.
    11) Be mindful, this game has thresholds. In the event you loose, you can very well loose HARD to the point you NEED to restart. I see no shame in you doing this when suddenly a VERY TINY weakness you had no hope noticing before, destroys your entire ship. Only when this happens can you truly learn how to make a ship survive heavy enemy fire. I highly recommend the Bulkheads mod. It opens SO MUCH MORE in designing your ships!
    12) When scrapping a cargo block, all cargo inside is safely ejected and can be picked up.
    13) Your idea of turning a station into a leviathan that devours dead ships is brilliant and by far the fastest way to get a working scrapping ship. Wish I thought of this for my early game!
    14) Missions never respawn (to my 50hr knowledge).
    15) You WILL eventually NEED railguns and or missiles as latter enemies WILL KYTE YOU WITH RAILGUNS/MISSILES!
    Hope this is helpful!

    • @JakobWasTaken__
      @JakobWasTaken__ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@a-blivvy-yus well you see, brick walls are strong, therefore steel that looks like brick wall = stronger steel. In all serious idk 100% but if I had to guess it has to do with the amount of damage armor takes before breaking and not having a 2 wide hole for shots to go through and hit the next layer of armor. So if you have 3 layers of brick wall armor, the first layer gets shot off leaving a hole that is two separate pieces of armor which absorb the damage desperately and break one at a time.

Since sulfur is substantially more compact than ammo, it would make some sense for the ammo factory to be kept on your combat vessel, so you can stockpile sulfur for bonus ammo regeneration out-of-combat. Most other resources are more compact when refined, so refining them still makes sense.
P.S. from what I've seen, I suspect that a hyper-coil factory might be the most profitable factory to set up.

I can not stress this enough, get the cannon shell factory, last I checked 1 piece of sulfur, just 1 piece and u get prob 10-20 sulfur per asteroid and u get 20 shells per sulfur, my cargo ship is always full of shells, their cheap but at least u don’t have to pay the stations for them, I have tried selling my shells because I have too many and I am using 2 of those deck guns which gobble up shells, problem with selling shells to stations, 1 their cheap so little money back, 2 stations have limited room and it get’s filled up fast, also make cargo ship, even if it just is a shell of something that stays near a station, save resources, the stuff from the stations is marked up , it’s kind of small but it adds up like crazy when upgrading, from experience I can say going the processing route with a ship to haul cargo, refine resources, and mine resources is really nice, as long as u are careful and got a decent combat ship, the cargo ship doesn’t need to have armor or weapons, slap a ton of thrusters on it and it’s a speedy boy
edit: I now know that he at least did some of what I said, I consider this a bit of an oversight on my part but I say yay for lathrix doing smart thingy

*37:12* As a Cosmoteer Faction enthusiast, I'm gonna take off a few minutes from ya'll and explain the four Cosmoteer factions:
You are spot on with the grey one (Fringe Systems Resistance or FSR), they indeed are Rebels that use scrappy damaged ships cobbled together from dead ships they find around and any sort of weapons they get their hands on.
Things only get more interesting from there on, though:
*Monolith Cooperative* (The blue one) is *not* an Empire. It's a capitalist conglomerate with very strong economy that use boxy industrial ships and like resource-oriented weapons like cannons and missiles.
The other two you haven't really had much interaction with, but I'll still explain them in attempt to intrigue you as they're easily the coolest factions in the game.
*Cabal Of Sol* (The yellow one) is a religious faction that attempts to bring back their dead god- Sol (Or the original sun of our Solar System) back to life using advanced scientific research. They build gorgeous asymmetric ships with detailed decorations and exotic paint job, and tend to use energy weapons like blasters and ion beams.
And finally, *Centauri Imperium* (The red one) is an actual empire, that uses spiky and intimidating diagonal ships (Built sideways of the regular ship grid) and love using Ion Beams and their signature _Nuclear Missiles._

Installing the ammo factory on the combat ship is something you probably should consider, as 1 sulfur looks to be a full stack of ammo. Put a tiny storage dedicated to sulfur next to it and you then have 20 stacks of ammo ready to go at a moment's notice, plus the 5 due to the factory's own internal storage. If you are just going to dedicate yourself to the ammo gods, then I can't recommend this enough.

So I have found that the mining lasers make for a really good up close defensive laser. Just have 2 of 'em facing away from each other, I prefer side to side. This will give you something with a like 200 or so degree ark of fire to attack the little annoying ships that try to flank you while you are worried about the bigger ships. They do a surprising amount of damage to intact ships.

as for some hot tips: you can set the default attack range of a ship in the same dropup menu to tranfer crew, also movementspeed of crew greatly reduces the needed crew amount as does specialized roles, scrapper vehicles or any craft that needs to do long journeys in a system (redeeming quests, selling stuff...) greatly benifits from hyperdrives seeing as they work inside a solarsystem to go to important location....

  • @CaptainGrief66
    @CaptainGrief66 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not sure on the quantity but you do not need a full crew complement to be efficient, the game grossly exaggerates ship requirements, you can be fine with half a crew complement, but just in case separate crews into different roles (Gunners, Navigation, Logistics etc) with different job priorities and also make sure to define where energy goes on board so crew doesn't take a battery from one end of the ship to the other for no reason

    armour is cheap, but heavy.
    iron is very cheap.
sulfur is a better way to transport/store ammunition then storing ammunition directly.
1 full sulfur stack holds 5 times the amount of ammo then a single full ammo stack (which helds 20 shells)
a single deck cannon fuses 10 shells per shot. it has 2 barrels. 2 shots = 1 full stack of ammo.

tip: over dammage is a thing, so it might be worth setting the cannons to ripple fire, even if it might make recoil affect accuracy a bit more, it shouldnt be a huge deal with malals wrath being so big and heavy :D
(also btw i love the color scheme)

Lath has fully embraced his inner ork. A freebooter to be precise.
Hunting the galaxy for things to fight and scrap, occasionally trading with someone before randomly deciding to wipe them out, bastardizing ships he finds for his own purposes or just strapping a bunch of engines to something and calling it a ship... And multiplying endlessly.

So lathrix, a weird idea you may like for the scrapper base. Once you unlock the tractor beam, and make a ship big enough to house it, you can use the tractor beam to tow the base around. No need for thrusters if you have the ability to tow it. Additionally the tractor beam is very handy for moving asteroids, ships together to mine/salvage more efficiently, and even has some in combat use. If you push the right spot on an enemy it can spin them after all.

I love the differences between your playthrough and Aavak's playthrough if you know him. He wait about 3 episodes to destroy a pirate base, and didn't really get a hauler until like episode in. I mean he gets real technical but by comparison your playthrough feels a bit more jesus take the wheel with a decent bit of planning.

Lathrix, when you find the right position for combat, you can click on the button for ship options just to the right of the ship's name in the info panel down in the bottom left corner. The button is marked with three horizontal lines. Under the options is the 'save combat settings' or something like that, but that means that in the future your ship will default to the distance and angle you have set, relative to the target. Want up close for devastation? Set it and save it. Distance for sniping? Set and save it.
Also, the Deck Cannons stun crew for a short period of time when they fire. Never actually used them, so not too sure how good/bad that is. Probably depends on the ship design, I guess.

ctrl shift and click on the 2 deck cannons, ctrl # to group them up. then press # and target specific parts of the enemy ship.
you should also do engine blocks (2crew inside needed) next. you only supply the power batteries to the engine room and it will power up the rockets attached to it. % modifier of the engine room helps nicely.

im later then intended BUT i advise getting a cannon ammo plants into your main ships who use cannons as the main weapons it will even if its like 2 of them help keep ya firing ya guns for longer and even allows ya to sustain fire (now relying on a though more space taking still more compact resorse of sulfer. this is VARY good for missile ships with iron as well.

Hey Lath, I would suggest testing your new ship blueprints in creative mode before risking resources in your campaign, but as myself have already learned, once you start fiddling with creative mode, you can easily loose an entire day just messing with designs. But it's just a thought.

Lathrix have you tryed over laping thruster Jetstreem Zones, so thay are far less of an outer target. Also thats far more armor than you need. Makeing steel is not that needed as long as you can salvage entire ship grave yards. As for your faction choice, make two saves and play both.

Hi, i want to give some advice, turn off auto place doors, it has the worst door placement. Also do a brick wall like pattern with the 1x2 armor, it spreads out the damage so it is harder to break through. Also crew management like squad orders and crew priorities, can vastly increase ship efficiency.

Lathland if you want to me more accurate I suggest setting the guns to alternate fire so they are more likely to hit, after using cannon ships I would also suggest storing ammo as sulfer as it takes up less space and have ammo factory’s by the guns

Okay, all jokes aside, I got cosmoteer as soon as it came out on steam and I am loving it so far. Btw u can make a new ship by placing two blocks away from your main ship, placing a explosive, then place another two blocks, then build a cockpit/command centre. Then if u detonate the explosive the cockpit should become a new ship and u can build off of it.

Forgive me chaos god, I'm just a humble servant with humble advice
Lathrix! it's always worth to use the materials you gathered rather than selling them (as of now the ratio is 2:1, you sell for $1 and buy for $2).
I suggest you build a huge storage ship made almost only of cargo to hold materials until i need them, this is expecially useful in "late game" builds where you make huge changes in your ship with the planner function because you can't commit those if you don't have enough resources nearby (and believe me, space bases never have enough resources in them).

smoll tip for the futue if you decide to stick with the deck canons. 6 of them with enough armour in front basically annihilate everything up to level 12. combined with 1 or 2 tractor beams you can even easily control bigger groups with small ships.
