- Because FtD Isn't complex enough I decided to add some rules to spice things up and force myself to get better at creating smaller designs! I am terrible with small designs with things like helicopters and compact weapon systems so If I don't get better quickly this will be a very fast run ending in tragedy!
Series Playlist: • Drone Only Challenge
Basic Rules:
- No Single SUPER Drone, lots of smaller drones for fun and insanity.
- Sandbox mode is allowed but heavily discouraged
- No damage from the mothership, this includes point defense style weapons e.g. missile interceptors
- No damage from the avatar
- Passive detection set to 0 (The AI gets no detection without detection blocks.) This may be set to 0.1 If the enemy AI has trouble finding us to start fights.

if memory serves, turrets can have a "resting angle" that makes them hold a position when not in use. you can see the same thing on some of the twin guard mechs, where they have a shoulder mounted cannon that folds down when in combat

There was a particular design that was a cram cannon bomber drone made from wood and a basic jet engine... It was part of a full play through, but I don't recall how long ago it was...

The floating fortress/mothership concept is really intriguing. I wonder just how big you actually could take that
the only limit on size is how much your computer can handle so if you have a good pc the sky is the limit

Interesting premise, I was hoping you would find a way to make it work. I'm hoping for a floating laser eye drone, maybe purely defensive (anti-missile) like the old proposed star-wars space defense satellites. Either way I'm glad you're enjoying the challenge, and I am looking forward to more episodes.
I love the more detail and content you can pack into these episodic adventures. I wouldn't be opposed to these being used in the future if it's easier for editing. LOVE your FTD series.

An idea that popped into my mind is a melee-missle to launch at enemies and carve right through

Yeah, this is awesome! I recently started working with drones/small planes and they have been interesting. On a side note, I didn't like chasing down resource drops in the adventure mode, but I learned that the distance you can pick up resources increases with the amount stored in the vehicle.

For the next playthrough I have an idea for a challenge.
- the floating town challenge
Build in the theme of a scrapped together town. Think mortal engines on water.
Can only build modules ( houses apartment etc) added to the core palace
Core can be constantly upgraded but houses can not ( no removing them aside from upgrading blocks or building them higher)
Permiter walls and other bit and bobs can be placed in the alley ways and exterior of buildings. Missile racks, AA, etc.
Lots of smaller weaker weapons (plasma, missiles, etc.)

this video is making me want to play ftd again, letting ai drones just do all tbe fighting for you is honestly a little therapeutic

Don't worry Larry, I'm already one step ahead of ya! Keep going with the FTD content Lathrix, really enjoying it and I think many of the peoples are too! I like where this is going so far! I'm really glad to see that the recent adventure mode rebalances have allowed some designs to spawn in again. Quite frankly, I forgot the Atlas, Casket Bolt, and Glaive existed because they just never seemed to spawn in adventure mode despite having such far reaching history in FTD.

Hey Lath! Just dropping by to say great video as always and thank you. After many, many years of watching you play FtD I finally decided to give it a go myself a few days ago. Of course it's all confusing, even frustrating when you're a new player, but hearing that in-game music and building my own weapons and ships, even if they are tentative at best for now, has brought me so much joy, excitement and nostalgia, since you and your content have always been my go-to through thick and thin for quite some time. Thank you. (P.S. my first successful kill was a DWG Coffin Nail, for old times' sake)
I can't wait for the next episode hoping to see so cool sub drones, also since you called a floating city all I can see is walking drones walking around on it.

Hell yeah, the idea of a mothership is something I’ve always wanted too see more of. Also good to hear your going on vacation, you’ve earned it. Rest well
carriers and drones can be ridiculously fun. i recently built a multimillion carrier with around 30 or so planes and two helicopters. in combat tests, it really just unleashes a ridiculously big swarm of planes and gives the enemy ship a hard time, while staying way out of range.
then i built a small drone and a small carrier that's actually viable in the campaign and somehow able to take out the crossbones, as it struggles to hit the drones effectively

Quite the Interesting Carrier Design you've got going on here man. I'd have simply gone with a World War Two National Theme for mine, Be it of the Royal and Commonwealth Navies, The United States Navy, The Imperial Japanese Navy and so on because of how much Potential for Period Builds to be made and have some fun with them. Imagine being able to Play From the Depths like it's an RTS Game like War on the Sea and Taking Command of a Fleet and Ordering Air Strikes from your Carrier while the Battleships, Cruisers and Destroyers in the Carrier's Screen Fire at Any Aerial Builds or Brawl it out with Surface Targets or even watching the Destroyers Make Depth Charge Attacks on Submersible Targets.
If you're interested in giving this a Go yourself, might I recommend a Strong Start with a Royal Australian Navy Supported Royal Navy British Pacific Fleet Carrier Task Force? If More "Manpower" is Needed, you can call upon the Royal Canadian and Royal New Zealand Navies along with more Ships from the Royal Navy. A Fleet Train with Tankers and Cargo Ships with Destroyer, Corvette and Frigates/Destroyer Escorts as the Screen will go around Collecting the Resources and will conduct "Replenishment at Sea" Operations whenever on of the Ships in the Fleet starts running low on Supplies.

That mechanic with the plasma causing that chain reaction of explosions technically is kind of realistic, because as you break compounds that are not at their lowest possible energy state they reform into a lower energy state compound releasing more energy to cause other compounds to also break down to release more energy so on and so forth and the plasma would just be the initial catalyst to cause the reaction, of course it has diminishing returns for each subsequent reaction, but it’s still pretty interesting in fact, plus flash boiling stuff with plasma is fun

I love this concept, you could even expand it out more to have everything just done by drones. Have interceptors for missile defence, larger drones for those armoured enemies and even like a reconnaissance drone that is just sits in orbit with sensor arrays giving your other drones "eyes" as it were... Oh, and maybe little turtle like drones to defend you from torpedos :D
2 suggestions:
1. Munition defence on mothership - it may not be able to damage other craft itself, but that doesn’t mean it can’t damage the enemy munitions
2. Small torpedo boat, fast and armed with decent torps - could be an additional distraction, along with a way to deal with possible subs
just a reminder since i suggested this a loong time ago and still think it would be fun ;)
the parasite run
you are only alowed to build a small craft with harpoons and meele
you are allowed to capture an enemie and take them over but your starter craft has to be atached to it in some way
if your host dies in combat or takes too much dmg you can detach and try infecting another one
the run fails if your starter gets destroyed
The idea of a proper aircraft in this game is very intriguing now. Seeing as a couple years ago I built the hull and flight deck of a more or less 1:1 scale of post refit USS Midway Cv41

I love this series of videos and if your taking suggestions here’s 2 only simple weapons or only one weapon both would be hard but I bet you could pull both of them off, love your vids!

From the depths is ABSOLUTELY something i'd like to see in the future. Also you should try melee drones, and if you do a campaign or something, try making a sword craft, I remember one youtuber made basically a giant laser/partical cannon sword that split the vehicles in half.
Also love the idea of a floating fortress too.
I think the absolute best thing would be a lightly edited (no waiting around for travel maybe) hour long videos in a series. I can't get enough of your content
