Been driving this for a couple months and I think it’s a very under appreciated car. It’s no track demon it’s a FUN daily driver with room to tune. I get great fuel economy, a drivers seat I ENJOY being in, easy clutch and transmission that doesn’t make you want to die in traffic. A lsd from factory, a more rigid body, great suspension set up, you can’t beat the value. It’s very light for its size which yes does mean you give up the luxurious touch of heavy interiors but it isn’t trying to be a Mercedes. It’s surprisingly quick stock with $2k you can really blow yourself (and others ;) away

No it's not fast stock...my 8th gen felt faster....but I got a Ktuner with a stage 1 tune which puts out 235 whp and 285 tq on a completely stock engine and now it feels amazing!! Will eat wrx's like nothing now
I have 21,000 miles on the exact car model you reviewed and love it! The torque is there, but the best thing about it performance-wise is the handling - which is the best of any SI thanks to the limited slip and adjustable dampers and steering response. Not to mention great brakes and killer seats. For an all round daily driver under $30K, let alone under $25K loaded, no real comp. I test drove both tg he Focus RS and Subaru WRX and horsepower and awd lost out to the way the SI felt. Natural, whether being pushed or cruising. The shifter on the SI is better than the WRX. The seats and visibility better than the RS. The reliability way better. Mileage, space, insurance, as ll better. Price? A decently equipped WRX is $32 K. RS az bout $42K. I barely get a chance to let the SI stretch its legs, what the heck do I need another 60 or 145 hp for ? But great handling I can enjoy all the time.
I agree with you I have a 2019 only had it for months and already have 6,000 miles I love my SI sedan I put ktuner on it it seemed to help out the power but I don't even turn to boost up that high (just a reflash) it's just a nice feeling car all the way around.. Type R is way to boy racer looking for me & Overkill with power. Si is right up my alley
@@dominicancheif117 i have an '18 si coupe and i havent noticed any major issues with oil dilution. Just remember to change your oil every 3-4k miles and you'll be fine.
Thank for the review. It was great. I own a 2009 Si and I'm in the market for a new Si but wasn't sure if it's worth it. Knowing that you are a GTI fan and are use to the higher horse power, listening to you say that it's worth it to buy makes me want to definitely get one. Well at least take one for a test drive. The sounds is not that bad, but it will never beat the sound of the old si. The v-Tec gave to the si a unique sound and it was way more aggressive. I think they should keep the 2.4 L V-Tec
Hey! Thank you for this fun to watch review! I recently purchased a civic coupe 2019 SI and have been watching everything can about this car. Stumbled on you and while it's for 2017, I still got some great info. Thank you! And i love your candor and enthusiasm! Oh, and PS: i traded in a GTI 2016 for my Honda Civic coupe...yes, i have less HP (2-5 vs 220?) however, repairs will be next to nothing with a Honda. Hence my decision. Honda's are the best and only car to own. IMP.
This car isn't really about torque and power. It's more about suspension and driving style. Honda could have made it cheaper by not offering a bunch of gadgets that many people don't want in a sport car. People want to drive this hard. Or for the same price, they should have put the 2.0 in with no gadgets. If you want both, get 2018 GTI Sport.
BUT......u have to upgrade the clutch because the extra torque and hp of a tune WILL cause the clutch to slip and eventually go out......HONDA clutches are soft.
Front isn't bad cuz the driving lights break up the HUGE fake vents but the rear fake vents are MASSIVE on the sedan, much smaller on the SI Coupe, that's why I got the coupe.
They should really make a Type R in this coupe body too. That is something that has to happen soon if Honda are listening..? Then we can all legally have the 2 door Type R we all wanted if we are being honest. Peace. R.
I intend to purchase a 2019 Si coupe at the end of this year, probably between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'll shave about four grand off MSRP and see which dealer says yes. The car will be on clearance and I'll get a deal.
Great blog about the SI for 2019 they come standard with LED headlights and the 1.5 SI platform is very tuner friendly plr hondata K Pro 27 won you can make that car a rocket ship for under five grand I love those wagons but you get that kind of horsepower and those kind of times you have to spend double the money the best bang for your buck and have a major community that support you the Honda hands down is the winner

Ktuner or Hondata tunes change these cars dramatically. Custom tunes even better. These motors can make a lot of power with just bolt ons. I have a 2020 and love it.

ZomBipandaa twin turbo is irrelevant on this car, a bigger upgraded single turbo is the route to go and prl made 350hp with the type r turbo on the si with some e85
I can vouch 48+mpg highway as long as you're easy and not going up hill. Even the slightest incline will drop your mpg by a lot! My work commute I get 37 there but I've gotten up to 50mpg on the way back (mostly down grade).
I wouldn't compare the SI to a GTI. Maybe a GLI, it not a hatchback. Sedan or Coupe only. The R is the GTI (hatchback) competitor. The typeR is also closer to the same price range.

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport mt goes 0 to 60 in 6.5 sec and the dual clutch automatic goes 0 to 60 in 6.1 sec. The Hyundai Elantra Sport is also cheaper. I test drove the mt and it was fast.

Honda dropped ths ball. They put a turbocharged VTEC engine in the first generation Acura RDX. Why couldnt they refine that engine and place it in this model like they did fir the 9th gen Si when they took the K24 otut of the Acura TSX?This is a watered down Si, to me.

The new Si is a disgrace.. Who the heck would want a 1.5 and that bulky car when you can get the 2013 Si coupe with the K24 that can be tuned to make huge power?
Mike Harkins With just a Hondata flash tune the new Si puts done 227+whp 240+tq. The k24 would require a lot of bolt ons to achieve the new Si #. Don’t let the 1.5L fool you. The new Si stock 1.5L has more torque than the k24 2.4L.
There's no way a stock k24 with just a tune make 250whp. I had a K20z1 on my 05 RSX-S with I/H/E & Hondata & I was only able to put down 211whp. To achieve 250whp you need bolt-ons at least, at least. With cams, yes you can achieve 250whp.

+DrWeeWe... Believe what you want bro.. I made exactly 246whp on my buddies TSX K24A2.. the only mod was a larger fuel pump and injectors. But the motor made that power stock. And really, who cares about bolt ons.. Bolt ons mean nothing in terms of what the K-series can do. Bolt ons are always necessary for an N/A setup. Of course you do not need any bolt ons for a car that comes from the Factory boosted. But the proof is in the pudding that that new SI only makes a few more HP from the factory from a NA Type S and old SI with the K-series. This is more than enough proof of the strength of the K-series... The 1.5L will never be able to make big power. With just a super small greddy turbo kit, you will make close to 300whp stock. The 1.5 comes from the factory with stronger internals meant for boost. Bottom line, the K-series can be built far more than the 1.5 from the new SI and can make far more power. You are a moron if you think the 1.5 is better or a faster motor than the K series.. Take that turbo off and lets see the power it makes then! LMAO!.. On the other hand, lets put that same turbo on the K24A2 and see the difference! LMAO!

When more air is coming then yes you need more fuel which requires pump and injectors upgrade. For an N/A K24 is suck in and breath out more air you need upgraded throttle body, intake manifold, intake or ITB. You say you made your buddy’s car 246whp? Are you a tuner? What engine management did you use to tune the K24? What was the air/fuel ratio after the tune? Where did you set your rev limiter at and VTEC engagement at? What fuel pump and size injectors did you installed? 246whp is very impressive for an NA k24 with just a fuel pump, injectors, and a tune. I’m very intrigued by this setup.

+DrWeeWe.. TSX has a solid intake, altho it was pushed to its limits.. We ran it multiple times. 246 was the max on that intake.. Which is great news because when he updates his intake and throttle body he can probably make another 30whp.. No I am not a tuner. I was just there. I have no clue on the numbers other than the HP they were able to make.. Its not my car, I was just there waiting to get my car tuned.. The car was tuned on with Kpro V4 I know that. But it was just the tuner seeing how far he could max out the intake and they were messing around. My buddy is getting a new intake and throttle body as well as full exhaust. He was just there to get his fuel back on track because it was messed up.. He would obviously not run this map... Anyway, we are getting way off subject. can you please just answer me a simple question.. What motor is stronger, and can make more power... The K-series, or the 1.5 in the SI? I am talking motor for motor.. If you wanted to build a 5-600whp drag car, would you go K24 or the L15? Simple question... what is a better motor and can make more power?
No its not. I had a fg2 and I would still pick that car to this day over the new one. It has a 1.5 wtf the em1 had a 1.6 and no vtec. Honda what are you doing. Oh I know to get a 2.0 you have to get the Type R or the new accord that is coming out. Fuck new Honda I am going to get another s2k. I should have never sold my ap2. Honda is dead. Not a real Si.

Not sure why reviewers keep saying it has Xenon or LED headlights. They're definitely halogen projectors.

My friend owns a 2014 Civic no issues. It's been awhile since I've owned a Honda (98 Prelude). I do see more Hyundai cars on the road.

The high revving engine in the previous generation made it a joy to drive, not a burden, as it appears you believe to be the case.

Considering the hp today, I think you are right!
They got these new si's doing 4.3 0-60 nowadays with just a tune, down pipe, and fx400 clutch. These things can keep up with srts easy.
Si seats look much better then the red ones in the type r

I can vouch 48+mpg highway as long as you're easy and not going up hill. Even the slightest incline will drop your mpg by a lot! My work commute I get 37 there but I've gotten up to 50mpg on the way back (mostly down grade).

I wouldn't compare the SI to a GTI. Maybe a GLI, it not a hatchback. Sedan or Coupe only. The R is the GTI (hatchback) competitor. The typeR is also closer to the same price range.

Honda dropped ths ball. They put a turbocharged VTEC engine in the first generation Acura RDX. Why couldnt they refine that engine and place it in this model like they did fir the 9th gen Si when they took the K24 otut of the Acura TSX?This is a watered down Si, to me.
They new civics don't make much hp from factory but they have lots of torque..I'll just stick with my b20 thanks anyways Honda haha

The new Si is a disgrace.. Who the heck would want a 1.5 and that bulky car when you can get the 2013 Si coupe with the K24 that can be tuned to make huge power?
Mike Harkins With just a Hondata flash tune the new Si puts done 227+whp 240+tq. The k24 would require a lot of bolt ons to achieve the new Si #. Don’t let the 1.5L fool you. The new Si stock 1.5L has more torque than the k24 2.4L.
There's no way a stock k24 with just a tune make 250whp. I had a K20z1 on my 05 RSX-S with I/H/E & Hondata & I was only able to put down 211whp. To achieve 250whp you need bolt-ons at least, at least. With cams, yes you can achieve 250whp.
+DrWeeWe... Believe what you want bro.. I made exactly 246whp on my buddies TSX K24A2.. the only mod was a larger fuel pump and injectors. But the motor made that power stock. And really, who cares about bolt ons.. Bolt ons mean nothing in terms of what the K-series can do. Bolt ons are always necessary for an N/A setup. Of course you do not need any bolt ons for a car that comes from the Factory boosted. But the proof is in the pudding that that new SI only makes a few more HP from the factory from a NA Type S and old SI with the K-series. This is more than enough proof of the strength of the K-series... The 1.5L will never be able to make big power. With just a super small greddy turbo kit, you will make close to 300whp stock. The 1.5 comes from the factory with stronger internals meant for boost. Bottom line, the K-series can be built far more than the 1.5 from the new SI and can make far more power. You are a moron if you think the 1.5 is better or a faster motor than the K series.. Take that turbo off and lets see the power it makes then! LMAO!.. On the other hand, lets put that same turbo on the K24A2 and see the difference! LMAO!

For an N/A K24 is suck in and breath out more air you need upgraded throttle body, intake manifold, intake or ITB. You say you made your buddy’s car 246whp? Are you a tuner? What engine management did you use to tune the K24? What was the air/fuel ratio after the tune? Where did you set your rev limiter at and VTEC engagement at? What fuel pump and size injectors did you installed? 246whp is very impressive for an NA k24 with just a fuel pump, injectors, and a tune. I’m very intrigued by this setup.

Which is great news because when he updates his intake and throttle body he can probably make another 30whp.. No I am not a tuner. I was just there. I have no clue on the numbers other than the HP they were able to make.. Its not my car, I was just there waiting to get my car tuned.. The car was tuned on with Kpro V4 I know that. But it was just the tuner seeing how far he could max out the intake and they were messing around. My buddy is getting a new intake and throttle body as well as full exhaust. He was just there to get his fuel back on track because it was messed up.. He would obviously not run this map... Anyway, we are getting way off subject. can you please just answer me a simple question.. What motor is stronger, and can make more power... The K-series, or the 1.5 in the SI? I am talking motor for motor.. If you wanted to build a 5-600whp drag car, would you go K24 or the L15? Simple question... what is a better motor and can make more power?
