This is the first video I watched pertaining to replacing refrigerator/freezer door gaskets and the only one I need to watch because of the detailed explanation. I'm a retired motorcycle technician/machinist and I had an idea of how, but was not aware that if the seal is creased ect., to put in it a tub laying flat with warm water to work out the imperfections and or the hair dryer. Thanks for the clear instructions.
@@chrisstokes2020 Your welcome. I believe giving positive feedback when it's due. I have a refrigerator with the freezer on top and the refrigerator seal is torn and the freezer seal has lost it's shape leaving a gap allowing cold air out. It's a Kenmore I bought 2011. Everything it being made cheap. My parents had units 20 - 30 years with no issues with the seals. Once I get the model # I will order the seals this week and will be changing them soon.
@@cliffords.8341 I was born in 1980 we had a small White Westinghouse single door fridge common in asian countries at the time. we had it throughout the 80s but by '93 the seals won't close. my mother had the seals and the entire fridge repainted avocado green (lol) but it didn't fix the problem. 1995 we finally replaced it with a bigger, but single door fridge to my amoyance (two doors already existed back then). it was a local brand in my country. the fridge was still flawless (save for the light which stayed off shortly after buying even though it's not burnt out, pre led era) in late 2010 we replaced it with a more modern samsung. in late 2011 I bought another samsung for our other house. in mid 2016 the older samsung stopped getting cold. we had it fixed but the problem persisted until my mother had had enough in 2022. last month the other samsung started leaking after exactly 12 years. the gasket just arrived today from china and i'll see if it fixes the problem. i'm not sure if i'll buy another samsung again but they really are cheap, consume a lot less power compared to panasonic, actually quite the work horses save for the seals and look quite good.
This was a great, simple tutorial and it helped alleviate my concerns about starting this long-delayed project. I will say that I recommend that one first examine the existing gasket. Mine had notable, but not understood, signs of someone making up for replacement by applying a great deal of silicone sealant. Removing all of that from the gasket groove took three times all the other steps here. Had I realized it before starting, I would have had a small plastic scraper on hand and maybe had taken some of the more perishable items out and put them in a cooler.
Thank you for the instructions. Are there universal refrigerator gaskets, or do we always have to look up the model number and brand of refrigerator to get one for our specific refrigerator? I have an old top-mount refrigerator that I think needs a door gasket replacement for both doors.
here in asia we can buy from china regardless of brand. you have to measure it and send the pics to the seller first. then they'll send the seals. mine just arrived today for less than $20. I hope it fixes the problem.
I imagine yours is fixed now, but for anyone else wondering, they are model specific. Look for a model number on a sticker that's typically inside the fridge compartment.
@@paperaxes4192 Yes, mine is fixed now. I looked up the model number for my specific model and purchased it online. But thank you for the information for others that see this and wonder the same thing.
Thank you. I have a fridge similar to the one in the video. And I would not think of placing it in warm water or using a dryer to work out the kinks. Easy instructions to follow too 👍🏾
Thank you so much for your tutorial! It was someone's Reddit post, about mold in their apartment fridge's seal (+ commenters' suggestions, on how to alleviate the problem) that brought me to TH-cam, and to your video. I'm going to search your videos, because, my roommate & I have an issue with ice build-up in the freezer section of our fridge. And our apartment management have not responded to our request for replacement or repair of our fridge/freezer, since we put in the request, 7 months ago. Maybe it's a gasket problem?
@@chrisstokes2020 Follow Up - I did just as you instruct in your video, with the added cleaning I gave both the seal and the grove. The door passed the 5 dollar bill test! (Ones and Twos are no longer printed in Canada) Blessed and blessings.
Wish mine had one of them big ol grooves, mine has them skinny Plastic track grooves, some are not as straight as they were, the hard tongue of the gasket doesn't always line up, fit or want to enter the 1/16 to 1/8 slot in the tracks, some of the track lop is pushed in. Fighting with it yet. Will reheat, might swap the screwy side to the hinge edge.
Been straightening the tracks, trying to make them a uniform slot thickness within tolerance, also trying to pull slot edges out to where it can get in and hold without the tongue bottoming out on back of slot preventing full insertion. The bottom track where the old gasket had been damaged is all in and out and all over. Might just close with duct tape.
probably brand issue. have 2 samsungs from 2010 and 11. both have leak issues although the newer model managed to not leak for exactly 12 years while the older one leaked at 5.5 years.
I ordered a gasket for the same kind of fridge your working with except mine is a Kenmore, they said that the part i ordered was correct for my model but the gasket is shorter than the fridge door and will not stretch out to reach the bottom of the fridge door. what do I do to get the part to stretch? I have already tried hot water and a blow dryer.
@@gregbgregb8487 thank you I called several appliance stores unfortunately they don't sell my type of mini fridge sealers and told me to call the manufacturer which charges more money for the sealer then my fridge is worth lol so I ended up having and idea and tried using magnet tape around the hole sealer it's working great now lol 🤣
Opened my own repair business in March. I cant believe the money. Sometimes i feel guilty for the amount I make in such little time. Especially when I do warranty work. Learn a trade folks, its better than ANY degree.
Amen!! I TOTALLY agree. I have been repairing appliances for over 16 years. It is definitely one of the best decisions that I made. Thanks Again & Be Blessed
I have to say, this video did not help me in the least and actually made me angry. Not at the dude but at the latest version of Frigidaire. My wife and I working together spent several hours loosening torx bit screws to replace a gasket that was only 4 years old.
Thank you for the detailed explanation. I didn't know about the tricks to get the creases removed from the box.

I have that exact same fridge with the same right door gasket that went bad. Is there a recall on these that we don't know about from whirlpool?
No, there is not a recall for this whirlpool refrigerator at this time.

If you do this on the freezer side do you need to defrost?
No, when replacing a gasket/seal you don't need to defrost the freezer.
Thanks

Where do I buy a seal for my mini fridge?
Any appliance parts store. Call them and give them your model#
