very good video, one of the best i have seen. i find its quicker to soak the gasket in hot water (sink) for a few minutes and then lay flat for a few hours. Or you can install the gasket and then heat it up with a hair dryer on the door and then close the door and keep the door closed for 20 minutes - this is just to speed up the process , your process works just as well. keep up the good work.
Just installed my gasket that I got from you guys today. It took me about 30 minutes. I threw my gasket in the dryer for 3 minutes and they got it straightened out. The hardest part was installing it where the door bumper is. Such a pain. I had to take it off the top and start from the bottom up. It went on easy when I did it that way with those French doors.
Thanks very much for the video - good info. But I'd sure think there would be a better way to ship a gasket than the current method where a person has to massage and work with the new gasket for up to a couple weeks. Wow. (OK - I see comments below about a bathtub with hot water - yeah that sounds much easier.)
No, we are suggesting leaving the gasket installed on the door and leaving the door closed so that it gasket forms to the shape of the door and cabinet of the refrigerator.
Great video. I would like to ask if I can use a universal seal for the refrigerator instead of the original one? It costs around €100. If I have the height, width and thickness measured, it should be fine, what do you think? Type: Liebherr KGT 4066 Index 25A / 001
installed new gasket today in whirlpool fridge door, and it went poorly. insulation ripped out with the gasket from the top which made me think I was doing something wrong for a while. eventually I got the gasket out and the new one in but it wouldn't hold in place so I had to use the self tapping screws included to pin the plastic liner and the metal door together and trap the seal...it was not the most elegant solution but clearly that's the only way. I'm now hoping that it works ok cause I'm gonna get a new fridge if I have to do this again.
I’m going to need a chiropractor and a masseuse after replacing the seal. Oh my God I’m so beat up.. Having the hairdryer definitely worked or helped but part part of it was the Styrofoam I had a chip away to make room for the new seal to slip in And it was real pain the bottom to slip in
Door gaskets are specific to the model number of the refrigerator. If you are in the United States, search on our site partsdr.com using the model number from the tag on your refrigerator to locate the correct part.
Yes, you have to remove the freezer door on most bottom freezer models. You can tape a piece of cardboard in place while you do the repair. We have a video on replacing the gasket here: th-cam.com/video/QElSFeanhvc/w-d-xo.html and here: th-cam.com/video/qI02gguRK_4/w-d-xo.html
@@PartsDrthis is a top freezer door for an Electrolux old fridge. 2002 model FFHT2117PS4 Do I still need to remove the door? And it’s stated it’s going to take a couple of days to weeks to seal properly??
@@BurningDesire_letsgo With a top freezer, you should be able to leave the door in place while replacing the gasket. If you prepare the gasket in advance, it should seal up pretty quickly in most cases.
Very interesting video. Glad I found it. I need a gasket for the lid/top of a Hotpoint Model # HHM7SM AWW chest freezer, I've had no luck in finding one. I wonder if as a last resort this will work or at least help? Or maybe some kind of universal gasket? Btw love the shirt.
@@PartsDr I'm subscribed, I have a dryer from the 70's I got running like a Charm. So do you sell the gaskets as well? My freezer is like an Antarctic trek?
It depends on the refrigerator that you are working on. Some can be replaced while the door is on and others you have to remove the door to install the gasket.
I was wondering the same thing. It looked like it was stuck with adhesive when you pulled off the old gasket. And the one on my fridge is sealed to the door. How does the new gasket stick to the body of the fridge?@PartsDr
Repairman for 45 years here dude soak it in a hot water bathtub for 15 mins then it’s fine
Thanks for the feedback!

How do u fit it I. A little sink 🤣🤣👍
Hair dryer is the way
How hot must be the Water, to soak Gasket in.
@@mustafaoguzmizrak8792 It can be any heat, even boiling water will work fine.
The hotter the better.

Nice job fixing it yourself! Those door bumper areas are a pain to work around.
Super legit video. Probably time to hire someone for me, but I'll buy the part from you for this great video.
Thanks Robert, we appreciate it!

This is an excellent tutorial! Just bought the gasket from your site.
Thank you! Let us know how the repair goes for you!
Great tutorial.
Now we are talking!!!
Glad we could help!
This is helpful. I'll just have to challenge myself to find a flat surface in my 103 yo house. 😂
😂
Oof. I fl this!
Are you suggesting to let the door sit for days or weeks before putting it back on?
No, we are suggesting leaving the gasket installed on the door and leaving the door closed so that it gasket forms to the shape of the door and cabinet of the refrigerator.

That dreadful T shirt is a grope in the wrong direction.

of course you can buy a replace onr not original
Sears only gives you 10 days for defective ones & I miss that window because I went by their video this I didn’t know bout the hot water trick
Hopefully you can get it restored and working properly now.
I don’t know about massaging it infront of the customer but hot water works
Excellent advice thank you
You're welcome!
If you have to leave the door closed (for a few days/weeks) after installing the new gasket, does that mean I cannot use the freezer for my meat etc?
In most cases you should be able to continue to use the refrigerator/freezer as long as it is not leaking too much.

Does it stick with adhesive?
No gaskets to do not use or require adhesive.

We used to use vaseline around the gasket to seal better
