The scene in Conjuring 2 where they talk to the entity by looking away from it while the camera is out of focus as the entity slowly reveals itself is legit the most creative thing I've ever seen a mainstream horror film do.
I think James Wan can get a bit too repetitive with his direction of horror films, but occasionally he does a scene like that where it reminds you how clever of a director he can really be.

conjuring 2 had some amazing scenes ... the nun attacking Lorraine in the dark room , the dog turning into the crooked man , and more

The scene in Conjuring 2 when Ed plays and sings “Can’t Help Falling in Love” gives me goosebumps. That’s what elevates it to the top of my list.

The Conjuring 2 is so good. It has the best cinematography, the most emotionally gripping family dynamic, the best of Ed & Lorraine’s relationship, and some of the scariest moments

@@jordanmccoy1099 I can see where you’re coming from but the scenes of Lorraine trying to save Ed’s life & then dancing together in the end of The Conjuring 2 really put it at the top for me. But I really like the 3rd one, I still don’t understand why people dislike it. Sure it had a different tone, but why would people want the tone to be the exact same as the previous movies??

The first Insidious is by far one of my favorite horror movies of all time. Genuinely chilled me to my bones lol. Dang near perfect horror movie in my opinion. The Red Door was very disappointing. I felt like they revisited the original and took all of the horror out of it! I still love both of these franchises though. Awesome tier list!

Gonna be honest. I watched Insidious for the first time like 2 weeks ago, and I could not have been more unimpressed. It wasn’t bad, but I’ve heard plenty of people in the same boat as you, and I was nowhere near as receptive.

As a horror fan and a romantic at heart, I just love Ed and Lorraine - the movie versions not the real people 😆 The Conjuring wins for me just for Vera Farmigas performances and the emotional elements alongside the scares ❤️ The 2nd film is one of my favourites. I've honestly wanted to see a comparison between both franchises for a long time and even though it will never happen, it would be really cool to see these franchises crossover. For the most part, my list is very close to this, the major item that's different is that I genuinely enjoyed The Nun 2 WAY better than the first movie and would probably rank it as "Good". Now I would probably rank these differently depending on the day, but today I would generalize them as follows:
Great - The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, Annabelle Comes Home
Good - Insidious 1-4 (#2 is actually my favorite), The Nun 2
Okay - Annabelle, The Curse of LL, The Nun, The Conjuring 3, Insidious: The Red Door

  • @andygriffin9935
    @andygriffin9935 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I definitely agree with the snoozefest entries (except for the nun 2, I haven't seen yet) but I'd rather watch the curse of La Llorona over the nun anyway if I HAD to choose. My wife and I saw the nun in the theaters and I was desperately trying to stay awake.

This video hits hard. I have a bittersweet love for The Conjuring and Insidious films because my mom was such a huge fan of them. She constantly rewatched them and I would join her and we would just dissect them. Unfortunately she passed away before the third Conjuring movie came out but that one wasn’t even great. Watching the new Insidious film just brought me back to those days watching the first movie in the series with her so I think that’s a big reason why I liked it but I totally get your opinions and even agree with most. Love this video and can’t wait for more! Thanks for making my night! 🖤

I’ll probably always hold The Conjuring in extremely high regard. It’s nothing new, but it does what it does so RIGHT. My mom took me to see it in the theater for my 18th birthday and we were both ridiculously hyped leading up to it, and weren’t disappointed. It’s a modern classic imo, and very rewatchable. I find the “happy ending” very refreshing as well. Usually I like a dark ending, but with the themes of love and family, the good ending made sense.
Insidious also hasn’t aged as well for me, but it’s got a special place in my heart. My bff and I saw it on a weekday afternoon as teenagers out of boredom. We’d scrounge up what little money we had and put it together to do shit like go to the movie theater. Neither of us had ever heard of Insidious, but came out of the theater having a great time. So I think the experience itself boosts the movie for me personally.

Cody, I agree with all your choices, except one. I thin "INSIDIOUS" needs to go up a notch. This is the movie that spawned the sequels. It didn't have the bite that THE CONJURING' had, but the creep effect was TTR. It should've been a stand alone film; no need for the lackluster sequel.

I love horror movies that have teens and kids(s) who are home alone defending their home. It has a familiar element of having a babysitter or hanging out with an older sibling, watching movies, eating snacks and sharing ghost stories. Except in Annabelle 3, they do all that, but are in the actual ghost story. So I love Annabelle 3, despite flaws. My tradition is to get some pizza, crack open a bottle of good rum or whiskey and have a blast watching it.

Nun 2 was amazing imo… I am a hardcore horror fan and conjuring 1&2 are definitely the best in this list but the Nun 2 was way better than any of the insidious films. The scares and cinematography is just unmatched compared to those films, the way James Wan made this film felt fresh and also familiar with his classic scare flair. Plus the end scene and credit scene was amazing, tied into Lorraine and Irene being related and descendants of st Lucy, which explains their medium gifts.. plus the movie never got boring, they cut the fat and got straight to the point. Loved the holy blood scene especially 👌🏼💥 very cool

The Conjuring is my favorite horror franchise, and I really like the Insidious franchise. Here's my current ranking:
    AWESOME
The Conjuring 2 (my favorite horror movie, and in my top 10 favorite movies)
    The Conjuring
Insidious (probably the movie that scares me the most)
    GREAT
Annabelle Comes Home (I have this above creation bc it's a bit lighter fare. And it's a good movie to show people that are not into scary movies - just a fun spooky atmosphere)
    Annabelle Creation
    Insidious 2
    GOOD
    Insidious 3
The Nun (Seeing the Nun 2 made me think I like this one more. It's fun, creepy, jump-scare fueled)
The Curse of La Llorona (I really like the cast)
    WATCHABLE
The Nun II (I liked it, but it felt like Valak was barely in it, and it wasn't scary. Some great kills though!)
    Insidious: The Red Door
    Insidious 4
The Conjuring The Devil Made Me Do It (One of the most disappointing horror movies for me. The first part is great, but I was let down by the rest of the movie.)
Annabelle (I don't dislike this movie, just something has to come in last place)

Cody I love your vids and all so no hate what so ever but for the life of me I can’t understand why u don’t like jump scares particularly whet u call cheap jumpscares bc typically those scare me I don’t know if it’s just bc I am a big wuss but it always seem to get my heart rate up now I can’t tell if it’s mainly bc the thing that pops out is scary or I just get scared by the music but please respond I would love to get a little bit more insight but for me I think just a simple jump scare gets me

They’re the most overused and poorly used technique in horror filmmaking. A good jump scare can be great but when it’s poorly crafted or overused it becomes telegraphed and boring.

@@CodyLeachYT if you don’t mind give me a example of a bad jump scare and a bad one so I can look it up

    from the ones i've seen:
    Awesome - Insidious
Great - Insidious 2, The Conjuring, Insidious 3
    Good - N/A
Watchable - Insidious: The Red Door, Annabelle
Snoozefest - Insidious: The Last Key

i haven’t seen the nun 2 left, but what i wish the first nun was was following one nun at the abbey in romania watching all her friends die and then we end with valak possessing frenchie or the suicide from the first movie

I really wanted to play along and do my own tier list like the last one about the Final girls...but I noticed I haven't seen quite a number of these films

I think the Conjuring 1 & 2 are my absolute favorite horror movie, especially out of this whole universe, the first insidious & Anabelle creation (I think that’s the one with the foster girls)

Leigh Whannell is apparently turning Upgrade into a TV show, so that's where he's been. Lol

I'd love to see a backwoods tier list. Maybe all The Texas Chainsaws and Wrong Turns. Or something like that. Since most of them are not good. I agree that the 1st two Conjuring movies are the best in the universe of those movies. I'd say Annabelle Comes Home is my 3rd.

I watched all the movies in the Spirit İnsidious series and the Conjuring movie series at the same time. The creepiest movie is Spirit Zone and Lights Out. Finally, Annabelle and Creation

Shazam 2 is also a conjuring movie. Annabelle appeared in this movie

This is why I don't like to rewatch movies I like in the first watch except for Scream. For example, Rosemary's Baby, a movie I watched as a kid and terrified me because my mom is also called Rosemary. I would not want to ruin that experience by rewatching and maybe not liking it as much.

If we remove a couple of scenes from insidious and insidious 2, I think these two movies could work as one big film, like Halloween and Halloween 2!

The first Conjuring was the first horror movie I made a conscious decision of watching from beginning to end. But when the wardrobe scene happened I checked out for months before finally finishing the movie.
Nowadays the movie is not scary to me anymore because the rest of the unnecessary Conjuring franchise has watered down the quality for me personally, but it remains on my shelf out of respect of those first two viewings and it being the first horror movie I ever watched.

I know right I've been wondering what happened to Leigh Whannell the last movie he did was The Invisible Man and that came out in 2020 , last I heard he was doing a Green Hornet reboot but it's been crickets since this was announced last year

Cody, just wondering if you have seen The Babadook from 2014 I think. I's a freaky movie w a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I would be interested in hearing your opinion.

I've always considered these movies to be part of the same shared universe Kind of like the marvel movies so it's funny that you did a tier ranking comparing them to each other. Technically I know they're not but in my head I just consider them all part of a hole
