    Mine did not have those issues, even with a slow roll open. Lock up is early and solid on mine.

    I've got a min Begleiter that is a christmas gift for my grand father, it is a really nice lil piece. The lockup is solid, and the fit and finish is better than my Leek by a mile.

    Shame you got a lemon, my shredded carbon fiber feist is flawless and I've been EDCing it since it arrived a month ago, little bit of mineral oil lube and its the smoothest action I own. My lockup was fully engaged out of the box. Really is a great knife when you get a good one, holds an edge fine despite what people say about the softer steel, maybe not as hard as my ZT's S35vn, but it took a darn nice edge and hasn't lost it yet.

    • @wasnt_it
      @wasnt_it 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      doesn't mineral oil lose it's viscosity quickly? and collect a lot of material?

    • @davidcalderwood2887
      @davidcalderwood2887 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wasnt_it Haven't had any issues w/ Starretts mineral oil, lasts a long time, Feist still opens smooth as butter after months and hundreds if not thousands of open-close cycles. I'll pop it open to clean it in a couple weeks here and see how it looks, but it works really well.

    I’d be more interested in this knife if it were around the $100 price point. Overpriced for a Chinese knife and this review confirmed that for me. I was considering the micarta version of this. I’ll be passing now. Nice materials but these types of issues are all too common with overseas stuff. They get everything right and completely screw up a crucial detail.

    After what we have seen I can't see buying a Kizer outside of the VG-10 budget type stuff. I've had good experiences with them. The S35VN stuff I just avoid, they have been soft over and over. It's too bad because I really like the Escort and Critical.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I’m with you G. I thought I’d see if they had picked up their game, and got this... think I’ll stick with their budget line if I’m going Kizer. They seem to do a good job with their VG10, and build quality on my mini sheepdog is solid. It’s a bummer, because like you said, some of their designs are cool.

    Dude their isn’t one good reason not to return that knife. My Kiser had loose thumb studs out of the box and that was it for me.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James, I would agree with you in most cases, but a 100$(normally 150$) knife that doesn’t lock up, I think that’s where I draw the line. The EWC that doesn’t have a lock, locked up better than that. Loose thumbstuds can be tightened, but I’m not going to be filing my lockbar, first thing, on a new knife. Especially on a knife from a company that is infamous for not having a good warranty.

    So, just thoughts for everyone.... #1 Production knives mass produced on assembly lines are bound to have duds. What to take from this fact is that it's not entirely a QC issue as they realistically won't have a dozen or more employees checking every single item before it goes in a box, more precisely where the issue is- machine/equipment and process of the production line itself with a failed proper assembly. #2 Therefore, it is a brilliant habit with every production knife you get to disassemble, clean, lubricate, and reassemble. #3 This serves you well as you now have a far greater understanding of the knife for the sake of future maintenance and it's own strengths and weaknesses so you have a greater understanding of the degree of performance to expect and gauging more appropriately the tasks it can handle. Many would argue (fair enough) that you shouldn't do this to EVERY knife as often enough the products manufacturer says you void the warranty by doing so and why bother with a sub $50,$20,$10 knife. Those are decisions each person has to make for themselves and never make for others. Americans and others have generally gotten so comfortable with the mindset everything they buy should arrive 100% perfection to described specifications and then so quick to send back for full refund for even the slightest imperfection. Price point in relation to the product itself should gauge that perception of expectations. My question to you is: if you had done #2 would you have discovered where things "got ugly" and then possibly solved a simple error yourself and/or been able to get a specific replacement part that would have corrected the knife so you could keep the Feist and enjoy it with a more positive view of Kizer and Blade HQ? Excellent first impression video btw, honesty and full disclosure has great value and I for sure respect that. Thank You.

  • @rickkerans8485
    @rickkerans8485 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I completely agree with you on that knife being dangerous. That lockup was terrible. Granted it was getting better if you flipped it hard it was still dangerous on the slow role. I think it would have been the first knife I ever returned also.
    I know this isn't the place but your logo is great. If you have those in stickers I would love to get a couple.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah... there are very few things that would bring me to returning a knife, and this was one of them.
      Thanks a lot Rick! I’ve actually got some friends helping me get it dialed in, and i hope you dig the final design:)

    Sucks but looks like its gonna break in, that reverse detent kinda sucks though probably just gotta get used to pushing it past the detent 👍 nevermind just seen the end probably best

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah... it probably would’ve broke in fine, but I would’ve been nervous using up to that point hahaha yeah, I think the detent situation was weird too. I think there just wasn’t enough room for the lock bar to get out of the way, and it might have just been my example.

      @@inthepocket7405 if you get it replaced with the same problem your probably gonna endup putting a reverse detent notch, which is fine for guys like us, but sucks for the people that dont have the means or the knowledge

    Nothing worse than getting a dud in the mail... especially after you shell out any high amount of cash.
    I bought a microtech ultratech a few months ago brand new from blade hq that just constantly misfired and now barely opens.
    That's where they need to get better employees that are quality control before they mail you something.
    Its they're responsibility to mail you quality products.
    And I'm talking about dealers like blade HQ and knife center and dlc trading.
    It's they're responsibility to make sure you get a good product before it's shipped and mail back the crap to the manufacturer.
    They just slap a knife box into another box and ship it out without testing it first... obviously.
    I was considering buying one of these and probably won't now.

Just like the EWC No one has ever said anything bad just send it back and get something else the feist is not for you get something budget they seem ti better better these days. @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man, I always try to stay humble, and objective, and I’m not trying to bash your favorite knife here. I probably just got a bad example, but I’m always going to call it as it is, and this knife should have never left their factory like this. I have the EWC, it locks up better then that Feist did, and it doesn’t have a lock. I did return it, reluctantly, even though it’s not normally how I function. The titanium frame lock version might be great too. I just am not going to take my chances with another one of these, personally, and that with no offense to the solid example you got, just the lemon that I got. Sorry man... always feel free to dislike my videos... it’s your right

  • @SteveKluver
    @SteveKluver 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh no!
    Thanks for doing this one for us, Kenny.
    That is, a great looking knife. I have the Ti version, and it's now at 40% lock-up. I did get it at launch though, so mine has got a few thousand openings on it now ; - )
    This is one reason, I always do a light spine whack test. On every, very early lock-up knife I receive. Yours is so early though, that a light spine whack, was not even needed!
    Most knives I buy now days, are pretty darn early. I really do like that. It makes for some very long lock-bar travel life. If they are too early, I don't send them back. I just take them apart quick, and do a couple of quick rubs with a file. I realize that many or most buyers, are not willing to do that. It's just my thing.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah Steve😬 of coarse man:..
      I agree. The titanium frame lock version is what made me want to try this knife. I would have welcomed 40% lockup on this guy hahaha
      I don’t mind either... I don’t mind a, later or early lock up, as long as they’re done well. Having a ton of room for the lock bar to slowly work over is nice, but when the geometry is done well, and the insert or titanium is treated, there is usually no issues either way.
      You know I’m all about modding my knives Steve;) however filing a lock bar first thing, on a knife at this price point, is not something I would necessarily jump on hahaha especially because I haven’t heard the best of things about Kizer’s warranty:)

  • @bryantopash2023

      Huh.... did you not see the lock failing with almost 0 negative pressure. This isn’t a slip joint, and slip joints aren’t even as unsafe as this thing felt. I’m not usually worried about that sort of thing, ever really.

    • @Yoko.Kurama
      @Yoko.Kurama 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I only made it 5min. Weird for an expensive knife. It cost so much because of handle materials? I'm new to this if u can't tell. Trying to figure out if expensive knives are worth it. From this experience I guess not

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This knife was just not executed well. I think a lot of expensive knives are worth it, you just have to pick and choose what fits you, and look into the companies that are doing it well. Watch some of my other videos, not kizer videos though hahaha, and you will see that a lot of knives are absolutely worth the extra cost.

  • @tacticalcenter8658

    i dont like kizers at all. lots of issues imho. plus the heat treatment isnt the greatest. but you get what you pay for. this model had issues in the first run of the original design. pretty sad really. ive got so many issues with my Kizer T1. poorly designed and poor qc etc. The EWC triggers me. i dont see a point in that crap in knives. choosing m390 to sell knives with poor heat treatments for m390 and that stupid no lock. thats the dumbest thing.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, this was probably the last kizer I’ll ever by, unless I see them making solid adjustments. Honestly, their heat treat is the reason I hadn’t bought one in so long, and I was going to see if they had picked up their game, and got this. I’m really trying to stay clear of Chinese made knives all together, at this point. I like what Reates been doing, especially with colabs, but I just don’t like supporting what China stands for. I actually got the EWC in the pass around group, and I needed up snagging it, I actually like it as a fifth pocket knife. I carry to get into boxes and letters, and always have a locking, heavier duty knife for cutting shut up. I don’t believe those are manufactured by kizer though. I agree that poorly treated m390 is just rampant these days, and we don’t need more. I’m going to test the m390 on the EWC too, and it will go to g and Kurt.
      I have to try to stay objective, and open minded to trying things, but I am over the China thing, to be honest. It’s what they are doing to the planet, and also what they are doing to the quality of products, and how people treat goods as disposable almost these days. US goods have dropped in value in a lot of cases too, subsequently, to try and match cost. Damn... I could keep going on this, but this comment is going to be an essay soon lol

      When I get a knife I just don’t like, I eat my loss, and sell it myself, to someone that likes it. This was whole different thing, though. I wouldn’t have felt right even selling this to someone with that lockup like that, and that’s why I called BladeHQ. They did take a return, and they seem to be good about products that are defective, and most knife retailers are. However, this is the first knife I’ve ever returned, and I hope is the last hahaha It takes a lot...
