Shania was HUGE in the 90s, and this song was the biggest crossover hit. She's gorgeous and playful and feminine, and everyone loved her. When I saw this flip take of the Robert Palmer video, I thought it was perfect. The 90s was a great decade for music and pop culture.

It's strange to me when people don't know who Shania or Allison Kraus are. I mean Allison has 27 grammys and Shania has multiple DIAMOND albums. It's pretty crazy. But yeah, Shania (with help from her very talented husband) was HUGE instantly. She hit the scene like Brittany Spears with her first hit. Her husband is behind a lot of very successful bands, like Def Leppard, which you can hear a bit in a lot of her songs, and she of course is a great writer and performer. She has that IT factor. People like to blame her for turning country into pop or whatever but country went through pop phases a few times before her and bounced back. It still sounds country to me. The execs are what really hurt the genre.

This woman is a goddess of music! Coming from a poor Canadian family living in a backwoods community in Ontario, Shania rose to fame like a phoenix from the ashes, and became the best-selling female country artist EVER. Her album Come on Over (which, yes, this song is from), is the eighth best selling album of all time, making it the best selling album from a solo female artist OF ALL TIME. You can rave all you want about Rhianna and Beyonce and all those other modern pop stars, but Shania will forever hold her own. She is an icon of Canadian country, and made Nashville what it is today for female artists.

What is most notable with this song and all the songs from Shania (almost all) is the fact that legendary producer Mutt Lange (her husband back then) is behind the helm (writing, producing, mixing, etc...). That is why there is a ''Def Leppard-Brian Adams-gone-country'' feel to her work. Mutt Lange is the genius behind some of the greatest periods of Def, Brian and Heart, to name a few. As for Shania and Mutt, their relation ended in a soap opera kind of way. Try and listen to ''Who Are You?'', a song Mutt wrote for Carrie Underwood later on. Tell me it was not originally made for Shania.

This song was written by Shania Twain and Mutt Lange. Produced by him.

Legendary country rock star. Somewhat poppy at times, too. She had many great songs and videos during the '90s and early '00s. She's done some acting too on tv shows and movies. Lex and Brad heard the country and pop influences., which is correct. Tangy singing and guitar. This song was from the '90s. "I'm Gonna Getcha Good" form the early '00s is the next one yall need to check out. . A little more poppy with country, too. Also "Any Man of Mine" much more country music sounding, also "You're Sill the One" too. Good looking lady, too. She and Sheryl Crow good looking ladies, did country rock, folk rock during the '90s, '00s, acting careers, too.

For sure, Mutt Lange was a huge part of her sound, and influenced the direction of country music at the time.

Yes!!! Shania used that video to return the favor this time with the guts. It was a MONSTER country hit. Shania is the Number 1 selling female artist in Country music history. "That Don't Impress me Much", "Don't be Stupid", more upbeat, "You Still the One" To demonstrate just how popular she was (is), Her album "The Woman in Me"....Certified 12 times Platinum and stayed at Number 1 for 50 weeks.

It's a parody on Robert Palmers, "Addicted to Love". At one time Shania was top country female singer (sold the most albums). Later

Great that you played this directly after the Robert Palmer one as it is the identical approach using male rather than female models for the band. This role reversed version was fully intended and illustrates just how iconic the Robert Palmer video became.

Loved that her video for this starts as that little Robert Palmer homage! This song always gives me that 'girl power' feeling along the same lines of Deana Carter's 'Did I shave my legs for this?' or Mindy McCready's "Guys do it all the time"... lol

Her "Any Man of Mine" for a good tongue-in-cheek example of her C&W style of femininity. (Gives a whole new meaning to the term, "feminine pulchritude")

Late 90s Canadian female singers included Shania Twain, Alanis Morrisette, Celine Dion and Sarah McLachlan. There were many more, but these were the most popular.

Not my kind of song but it was a huge hit here when it came out. It's still all over Canadian radio and the video lasted a long time on Much Music. Music TV stations used to play the top videos and have top hits countdowns. There was no TH-cam. So you would watch MTV or Much Music waiting for your fave songs or videos to come on. So even when a song wasn't the best sometimes the video was worth watching. This exposed people to an array of genres. Probably why a lot of 90s bands started to mix genres and why a lot of 90s kids are very eclectic and like a lot of genres.
When an artist dropped a new video it was an event. Especially if it was connected to a previous video. For instance, some bands would have like a music video trilogy that would tell a story if you watched them in order. You would watch the countdown rooting for your artists to have the #1 spot. A lot of artists got propelled into fame by having very funny or very shocking videos.
Anyways, back to Shania. Her blend of country and pop changed the country genre (for better or for worse). I nevrr got into line dancing or sqaure dancing but this song was prime for country bar dance floors. Plus, she's a super attractive.
Brad thinks he won't be singing this song.. but it's so catchy he'll catch himself singing it in the shower 2 weeks from now haha

Right, Lex-“puntry” (pop+country). Twain was huge in the late 1990s. The album this song came from, “Come on Over,” had several hits.
