Robert's was supposed to be satirical too. He was commenting on how women (already) were used like mannequins in the background of videos. Shania just flipped the script.
As mentioned above, people dont always notice how satirical Robert Palmer was. He's been described as the most married man in show business...as in one wife, no groupies,no distractions, married! Supposedly the record company were pressuring him to make more sexy videos, to make himself the romantic lead of songs, he objected because...married! They kept insisting and persisting. So he turned round and said they want girls, they want glamour, lets turn the dial up to 11! Possibly 15! From interviews the models were having a blast and struggling not to laugh! Palmer might have gone too far though, the sequel kind of spoiled the joke!
Robert Palmer was a legend, his sound was unique and I'm a huge fan, not into Shania but that song was iconic, and the video parody was fun. Having the models 'playing' the instruments, totally deadpan, was Robert's response to being told he HAD to have hot girls in his video or it wouldn't be popular. It was sarcasm, not sexism, on his part. Great reaction.✌❤
@@vallee3140 Not to my knowledge, you might be thinking of 'Simply Irresistible', which had the same looking models, but there was a bit more skin and steamy dance moves, lol.😄
Both so good. I was a teenager when AtoL came out. We loved AND laughed about his girl "band"...really clever. Palmer himself so slick and Armani-clad. Then 12 years later to have Shania flip the script so brilliantly was iconic.
Both songs were huge at the time but I have to say Shania's was a movement. It transcended music and became an anthem for women and they played the s*** out of it on radio.
Shania’s is a good tune and definitely an anthem. Her parody video pays tribute to how iconic his video was. I’m not much of a country pop fan, and will listen to Robert Palmer all day long. He’s so gentlemanly and refined yet you know he knows all the underground places.
Was scrolling & I just wanted you to know you are one of my favorite reactors…I can tell you are a sincere, genuine, kindhearted person who I would love to just chill out with & have a cup of tea 🫖! Peace & Love to you & yours✌🏻♥️
Shania was really sucessful at crossing genres but she was really considered a country artist so you should check out her stats on the country music charts. Lived both videos but Shania was my fave!
Thanks David for the songs, so so cool! Both of these songs were HUGE! Sal, Robert Palmer (RIP) has one of the best voices ever. This song was delivered with restraint. He's most known for blue-eyed soul. Check out Every Kinda People, You Are In My System, Bad Case of Loving You, Simply Irresistible, Mercy Mercy Me/I Want You (yes a cover of Marvin Gaye). He's got more but that can get you started. The man is amazing!
I really, really like this idea of comparing videos and/or songs. This might be a cool thing to do from time to time whether it be covers of songs or videos that are spoofs and or tributes to other videos. I really like this!

The only way you can compare these videos is the setup!! Two totally different songs, different genres!! I happen to ❤ both!! Shania's song is a ladies' anthem for sure!!!

Originally intended to be a duet with Chaka Khan, the song was made without her because her record company at the time would not grant her a release to work on Palmer's label
Two very different songs but both great hits. Obviously the video parody she dared going for was a very clever move and I think it made her song even bigger because it was all over MTV!!! They both have great voices, in their respective genres, it's cool you reacted to both and compared these performances.
Love them both. My favorite Palmer song is Simply Irresistible. I probably watched that video a hundred times on MTV. Shania came out of the gate running and blew country music away before she crossed over. I loved country music so much in the 80s/90s. That’s my favorite era for country. I had to laugh when you said it was easy to dance to. Back in the day of the Dick Clark Bandstand TV show, the number one answer as to why someone loved a song was, “it has a good beat and it’s easy to dance to.” It became a running joke after a while.
One of the great videos in rock history--behind onlyPalmer's "Simply Irrisistible." Shania Twain is my favorite country singer and made the best country videos. "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" is wonderfully delivered. Shania is beautiful and sexy and has a great sense of humor.
Better Robert Palmer song to really see what he was made of would be "Bad Case of Lovin' You" on his own or "Some Like It Hot" from a group he formed with former members of Duran-Duran when they briefly broke up (the group was called Power Station). I always thought he was a consummate gentleman with his white shirt and black tie; always thought his delivery said he had a tiger in his tank! RIP.
You need to dive in to some of Robert Palmer’s (RIP) other songs - 14 studio albums, three live albums. Maybe start with “Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)”; “Looking for Clues” - there’s so many great tracks. There’s also his work with The Power Station (with members of Duran Duran). Keep up the good work. Lesa in 🇦🇺

Great idea to listen/compare both these songs in one video. I've been listening to Shania for a very long time, so I gotta say I like her song more, but Robert's song is just as good. Nice reaction overall, definitely recommend doing more Shania
I love "Addicted to Love" (which was originally called "Addicted to Drugs" but was changed to make it playable); I nearly wet myself laughing at Shania's brilliant parody video (even had the licking of the lips) with the equally brilliant "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" when first released
Both fun, hinting at risqué, driving beats. Made for some really interesting moves out on the dance floor, especially depending on how bold (or intoxicated) you were! Great songs and reaction! Ahhhhh, the memories.....
A wonderful video/reaction, Salvo. I loved both songs, so I knew what Shania was up to with her video. Something you might consider is reacting to Toby Keith's "How do you Like me Now" and Cletus Judd's "How do you Milk a Cow?" Toby shows up in the video. Cletus was the parody king! He also famously/hilariously did "Every Light in the House is Blown" in parody of Trace Atkins "Every Light in the House is On." Trace is in Judd's video also!
“Addicted To Love” was sort of a continuation of his work with Power Station, which you should react to (“Some Like It Hot” & “Get It On (Bang A Gong) - a cover of the T. Rex song), but Robert has had many styles of music, ie. 1970s pop/rock (“Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)”) and 1980s new wave/pop (“Looking For Clues”), which you should also react to.
One reason that Shania's song are so catchy and have such a great, high energy beat is that her husband, Mutt Lange, produced her albums. He's the same guy who produced all of Def Leppard's HUGE 1980s albums, ACDC's Back in Black, the Car's Heartbeat City album, Foreigner's huge 1981 album, 4, and on and on. These are both phenomenal songs! Loved the comparison video, Salvo!
Another Shania Twain hit that was co-written and produced by her ex husband, legendary producer Mutt Lange. He is definitely one of the best, if not *the* best music producers ever. The list of multi-platinum albums and hits he has produced is absolutely insane.
Robert Palmer had some great albums throughout his career. It was good that he had this hit later in his career. Shania was a great country pop performer and put out this modern-ish girl power anthem. They’re both good performers.
Both were well know & catchy. Palmer in this song was going for something different & for him it worked. Next to do is Simply Irresistible from Palmer. It was used in a soda commercial. Shaina's was fun. She made all her videos fun!

The song also won a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 2000. It is one of the most requested karaoke songs which won Shania the title of Queen of Karaoke.

I've loved Robert Palmer since I first heard "Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley", one of his very early hits. I miss him much! I like Shania a lot but....
I couldn't pick a favorite between the two. They're both great songs, and I like them equally, but for different reasons. I DO very much appreciate the tongue-in-cheek of Shania's video, though! It was brilliant!
I have super fond memories of Addicted to Love at a certain time in my life, when it played endlessly on the jukebox of the bar where I hung out. Ok. Where I, me, myself, played it endlessly on the jukebox. 😂 We even had a table dance that went with it, because there was no room to actually dance there. I'll bet I could pull 6-10 people on my social media and say, "1985 at Ron's! Who remembers the table dance to Addicted to Love?!" and we could all do at least part of it. So the memories give it an unfair advantage for me! And I didn't care for Shania Twain when she came out because I thought she was too poppy, but you can't be a woman and ignore a damn woman's anthem! So while I appreciated it, still know every word and will still dance to it when it comes on ... Robert Palmer does it for me. Another similar pop-rock, super-catchy song from him is, "Simply Irresistible." Good stuff!
Love this two versions for different reasons. I don't know know why but Palmer always makes me think of Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music, maybe it's that very male sophisticated singing... unique by both...
Love the reaction! You’ll have to check out more of Shania’s hits. She’s so entertaining! Funny but true story. Just as I came across this reaction, this exact Shania Twain song was in a commercial on my TV, lol. Plus, I live in Calgary, Alberta where Shania is huge (she’s from Timmies, Ontario) and we’re in the middle of the world famous Calgary Stampede! I’d suggest (even though she has several must sees) Your Still the One I Want live from Las Vegas 2014. You’ll be blown away! Cheers from Canada!
Try a listen to his first album, especially the title track Sneaking Sally through the alley, album was produced by Lowell George of Little Feat, also a great band you should check out!
