What a treat to have three videos today. Thanks so much. How interesting to see that first time moms, whether human or not, have things to learn and instinct doesn’t cover everything. Hope they learn soon to guard their babies against the predators!
Hi Jackie, I was also surprised that instinct didnt fully cover everything too! I thought they would make their chicks stick very close by but the chicks were absolutely everywhere and the moms not bothering to call them! They did soon learn, thank goodness!
Aw, how lovely to hear about your two hen moms. Sorry to hear they lost a chick. Were the rest of the chicks okay in the end? I was so terrified that if I left our chicks out in the open that we would lose them all to the seagulls, who are brazen! One swwoped down and attempted to grab a chick when I was in the garden, so imagine what they would do if I wasnt there. I ended up keeping them in a covered run until they were big enough for the seagulls to stop trying.
I only have the one rooster, Mr Snuggles, and this was his first time being a papa. Luckily he seems okay with the chicks and has been a very good boy! You can see a bit of his behaviours with the chick in these videos: th-cam.com/video/tIScERosO4w/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/3KyLxqQUhyg/w-d-xo.html Do you have roosters with chicks? How do they get along?
@@r.k.dreamingspetchickens1266 I also only have one rooster, but he likes to peck at the babies. I am going to watch closely. Thanks for your response.
Oh my... Well I'm not sure I did much better on my first trip out with my baby. But at least Sweet Pea and Precious don't have to lug around all the baby gear as well.
Aw - I'm sure you did a fab job. It's amazing that we expect insitnct to cover everything, but of course there is much to learn. I was being far too demanding of the poor first-time moms! 😂😂 I was glad to be able to put them in a safe fenced off area until they learned!
It would be cute to let another bunch of chicks hatch out and I would like to do it in future, but need to think about how much work it'll be and if there is space etc. Time will tell when this happens! I hope you'll get to see another batch of chicks at some point! Do you keep chickens too?

So true on how hard work it is of being a parent!
It was so interesting watching them learn. They soon caught on. Such amazing instincts!
@@r.k.dreamingspetchickens1266 So true even when you keep a close eye on them
Totally love videos and thank you so much. And also I love the how both mom's are taking care of their babies even though its their first time.
