The relic process needs to start no later than x.1 patches. HW basically perfected the relic process in terms of having steps release at a decent cadence (we'll just ignore the early warts it had, which were rectified by 3.2). Ever since, it's been x.25 patch by the time the first relic step becomes available. Napkin math would indicate 7.25 will be in/around next May, so almost a year after DT launch. That's simply way too long. Relic is just one example of such content that needs to get out the gate sooner.
To be honest HW's relic quest felt right. Eureka burned me hard and I skipped bozjan because it was eureka all over again. EW's though easier was a break cause I would have hated to do something like eureka again. There were fun moments that I will not lie, but no can we not do that style? Because the problem with that content is once your get your final form relic and any reward. You fall into the fact that hardly anyone will stick around to keep it going unless you have a dedicated group and even then its still a slog. Getting things to spawn takes forever and do not get me started on the whole big bad dungeon crap. I hated that in bozjan in order to get the final form of that relic you need to beat that final dungeon unlike in eureka it was optional. That was and still a very dumb idea that I hope they do not do again. In ew I understand why people didn't like its idea ,but you know what? It was no different than HW's relic weapon in terms of just get a number of items which also required tombstones. It was just more streamlined and just required you do your dailies and thats it. You didn't need to do a special mode that will become obsolete the moment you get into a new expansion. At least you can get your EW relic with tombstones and its poetics now. Do eureka and bozjan do that even? No as a matter fact because thay requires interacting with that mode. At least it gave tombstones more purpose during an expansion other than getting your elite gear.
relic needs to be BiS the whole expansion, and ure continuously upgrading it through end game content, and with some minor improvements in mid patches like bodzja. i dont care about the steps if the weapon is just a cosmetic
@@OCrAcIK Relic will only be BiS once all the raid tiers are done. Having it match savageraid weapons immediately would be a mistake. But it becoming undisputed BiS at xpac's end is fine
@@anteprs7908 A1S farming was boring but even that was more interesting than "lmao, farm tomes". And yeah, HW had that wonderful "ARF til ya barf" phase. Never said it was perfect. But it has been the best model for a relic process, IMO
It's ridiculous that with the population explosion in shb instead of trying to keep the momentum they just made it screech to a halt with EW being the most nothingburger expac while the expac cycle keeps getting longer. EW's zero content didnt do DT any favors, combined with DT's mixed msq. Now anyone who has played since at least shb has to wait 10-14 months after expac launch before there's MAYBE a long term content release. The fact that ishgard restoration was on 5.11 while cosmic exploration is nowhere to be seen next patch while the patch cycle is longer now is baffling to say the least.
The content release has been the same for a really long time. If you're going to glaze SHB, then why is DT bad now all of a sudden? DT has more content planned than SHB had by a mile, yet people still find a way to complain.
@@dividedbyzero4 EW had plenty of great content, what it didn't have is mindless, endless grinds that do nothing besides waste people's time (i.e. eureka). The average quality and polish of EW side content was higher than what was ever in the game. If you only care about wasting your time with an infinite loop of slop, then FF14 isn't the game for you. Find a game that fits what you want instead of taking something that's popular and make it revolve solely around your preferences.
I think the DT has a huge problem to overcome that is EW brought so little to the table in terms of extra content that for the majority of EW you were doing Pre-EW content for so long that people are done with it now. For people who fall into the "Did Pre-EW content during EW to get through content drought" there's nothing to fall back on. You cannot keep the release cycle as is.
For the majority of players (wich dont do savage) the only new content that dawntrail offers is the same 4 colisseum fights and the same 3 dungeons time and again for months. if you want to do crafting you are probably already lv100 with nothing to do as there is no restoration-like thing in DT ir EW (and the garlemand excuse is bs because alamigo is still in ruins) and the island not only was a disapointment compared to similar content from mmos even older than 14 but being a gatherer doesnt help you in any way. Job quest are generic mmo quests wich you do once and done (the crafting ones at least have some nice lore) Even if you have some old content to do its not the same doing current new content with people, it can feel empty and have no motivation to do, people want to play current and alive content.
@@Kurainuzexactly this. I don’t really do savages but I was excited for the PVP updates and battle/exploration zones. None of those were in the launch, and looks like we won’t see them even in 7.1. Is all the casual stuff even gonna be in til almost a year after the expac comes out?
@@KurainuzI remember hearing that ishikawa directly wrote the gatherer questline for dawntrail. It would explain why it stands above the other job quests in terms of writing quality.
@@shawnscouten5184 Thanks for the reminder, she oversaw the gatherer and crafter questlines yes. Funny how after writing omega complaining about venat being trated too much like a paragon saviour she was "promoted" to manager rol but her role was to overseer gatherer quests. Double funny that said quest did better worlbuilding than a lot of the msq
Yeah Endwalker really dropped the ball there, what should have happened is that we had some big beefy content like a relic zone or even a well designed relic to get us through 6.2-6.5 and we'd only realistically rely on Sb/ShB content during 6.55 once we were done with our current goals. Then we'd have Endwalker, Shadowbringers, and Stormblood content to fall back on during the 7.0/7.1 patches but instead we had to exhaust everything else to get us through all of Endwalker and now it's supposed to last even further into DT? Nah it's not happening.
DT is the first expansion where I felt it was hard to log in only a couple months in. There just doesn't feel like there's anything I wanna do that's worthwhile and im kind of tired of the same old, same old.
Same, and I think a LOT of people are feeling this. My FC has been quieter the past two months then it was at any point during the EW cycle. I'm lucky to see two other people on at once.
Every expansion since HW has been light in side content until x.2. It has nothing to do with the expansion design (which has more scheduled content than any expansion prior), it has to do with the novelty wearing off.
I have been playing plenty of other games, but i WANT a reason to play ffxiv more. I have a couple ultimates left for sure, but i don't want to do nothing but them back to back lol.
I don't, I always unsub, and then resub when I want to play again. I don't get why people want to throw their money away like that just to burn themselves out on a single game and never experience anything outside of it.
@@Dharengo throwing your money away implies you don't want what you're paying for. The simple fact is some of are NOT burnt out and so would like to keep playing. We don't want anything that will punish those who want breaks we just don't want to be punished for actually continuing to enjoy the game longer than others 😂
This is the problem with the "it's okay to unsub" argument people love to throw around. Like yeah it's nice that I don't HAVE to log in every day and can stop if I want to, but the flip side to that is I want to WANT to play. Like what do I do in a day in FF? Cap tomes and log out. And I'm supposed to be happy with that being all I have? I get more content out of gacha games for goodness sake.
@@marslara Punished how? I get to experience some amazing things when I'm not playing FF14. Mindless grinds that force me to play this game when I really want to do something else is just not my kind of content. And I don't understand people who want to go through that hell.
This is a hole the team dug themselves into. By moving the interactive part of the game away from job design, toward fight design; they created a situation where solved content is no longer fun.
@@Rill_1 It's not even that. I can still run Eureka on a Stone 4 spamming healer. I like more simplistic/straightforward Jobs (I think it's good the game have complex ones like ShB SMN, I just also think it's good to have straightforward ones like RDM or new SMN - the game NEEDS both, and the problem is it has so many of one and not enough of the other). It's more that there's just no content with legs. So much stuff is one-and-done content or content you do just a couple times (Variant you do 13 times and get all paths...then you're done) that there's nothing to spend time with.
Maybe don't rush through everything? It took me about 2 months to get through MSQ because I work and I savor my time and experience. Deferral of gratification, learn it. You don't need to rush through everything.
@@Jake38nineyou can complete 4 raids in a few hours. Its not rushing its that it has no longevity. If you said dont rush bozja or eureka id agree but the reality is this is why they said play something else because they know its not long term content.
Heavesnward honestly had the best overall relic system.... sure there were one or two steps that they shouldn't have included, but overall the idea that you were able to progress the relic through just about every piece of content you would do was a fantastic system
ew relics are content they simple where causal content made for casual and not like before made for midcore ew relics got more ppl into relics then any other relics could .
@@anteprs7908 Every relic has been casual content and midcore does not exist as that implies a difficulty between casual and hardcore, which does not exist in this game. Eureka and Bozja are MMO content, community content, but midcore they are not. The most ideal relic system is Anima, as exploration content alienates too many people to maintain universal appeal; I've completed neither because exploration content is little more than reskinned FATEs and I'm not about to put myself through that.
@@Alcadria ok clear you not causal to say this beyond STUPID argument . CASUAL CONTENT MUST BE RELAXING and non challanging: so only normal dung, variant dung(non solo),island santuary ,gold saucer ,msq ,trails, fate grind and some normal raids and ally raids(but they are seen as semi casual a line between casual and midcore content ) midcore content is all of this : extreme trails.eureka/bozja, some normal raids and ally raids (sotorm blood and shb ally raids) HW had great relics but it end was beyond stupid yoou need 50 + to 60 dungs or 24 saavage raids for the final step that alone if beyond to much for any sane person let alone casual player.
@@Alcadria it's ironic how many people flocked to Eureka after complaining that the anima weapon started off with farming fates... but I'm with you. I didn't finish a single Eureka weapon for that same reason. I did more with Bozja since while you still had to do the exploratory zone, progress wasn't gated behind that alone. I think they'd be best served making exploratory zone 100% optional and one of the ways that you can advance your relic, but not the only way or not mandatory to advance
I don't do extremes, savage, or ultimates. So I waited for 7.1 just to get a couple of hours of MSQ and the alliance raid, then a very long wait for 7.2 in April. We went from a 3.5 month patch cycle to a 4 month because they said they wanted to give the team an extra 2 weeks of vacation per year. Now we're suddenly at 4.5 months. More than a third of an entire year is way too slow for an MMO that wants me to pay monthly. I don't care what Square says, 17 weeks is not and never has been considered three and a half months. That's 4 months and an extra week to anyone that owns a calendar.
@@Dharengo Not necessarily. The patches that added new entire zones to Bozja or Eureka in their respective expansions, new relic steps (excluding tomestones), Firmament/Diadem, Trial series (Werlyt, warring triad, four lords etc.) and other long term progression content had more staying power. Dawntrail seems unnecessarily back loaded for content which would be totally fine if by the time they get to 7.5 we didn't have an entire half of a year added to the patch schedule compared to past expansions.
@@25xxfrostxx So... Low effort meaningless braindead grinds that take valuable time away from other activities in life, forcing me to play the game when I really want to do something else, count as content?
I'm with you on this. I do a bit of extremes but i dont exactly farm them. I'll probably only come back in 7.25 when they add the exploration content. And thats if i come back at all. I usually enjoy the expansions but the patches since Endwalker have no staying power for me.
A big thing with patches in general. When they extended the patch length, they didn't delay the x.x5. so now the patch lull is just longer than it used to be.
If they just threw games at us, then ya'll would complain about the quality being terrible. The developers can't win and ya'll entitled players need to grow up
@Jake38nine might wanna read my comment again bud. Said literally nothing about the amount or quality of content. Just the fact that the patch lull is longer. More to the point that when they delayed things they didn't delay the smaller update which would help reduce the amount of lull at the end. Unfortunately my criticism is about the content release timing and not the amount of content so theres no entitlement to curb there just your own delusional thoughts.
@@Jake38nine game quality and quantity was fine before they extended the patch length. Eureka was buggy, but so was EW content like DSR brazil tower bug, TOP autoattack bug and buff cap, eureka orthos double swipe instakill bug and instacast room wide kill on higher floors bug. Hildibrand relic is beyond lazy and island sanctuary turned out to be glorified venture spreadsheet simulator. EW has zero replayability and objectively less content quality and quantity than sb/shb while taking longer every patch. Story quality also goes down in EW patches and DT. There's literally no justification for this.
@@dividedbyzero4 Sounds like you need to move on with your life then since you're so tired of this game. It's okay to move on and grow out of things. That's called aging, buddy.
I swear to god the threat of losing my house is the only thing that keep me "playing" during dead patches. and by playing I mean paying 15 dollars to log into my house then immediately log out once every 30 days. Lord forgive me but I was so grateful for periods of crisis like the hurricane that paused the demo timer.
This is the main thing that puts me off getting a house at all. I don't want the yoke of having to sign in regularly just to prevent everything that I put into a house just vanishing.
Sometimes I think the people who only sub to keep their houses should just let go and move on. I quit several years ago and let go of my Mist Mansion. I keep thinking the game will give something for me to enjoy, but I always end up playing single player games, lol
@@nauscakes1868this exactly, at some point it's best to just give it up. Houses in this game are nice but I've been so much happier not feeling forced to be subbed at all times, not too mention I still have an apartment which doesn't require log in to keep and can do everything my house did anyway!
When I stopped playing Endwalker, I just released the house myself. No value in keeping something that is artificially scarce and only useful if you're actively playing.
I have recently let my house Auto demolish, it's honestly so freeing. Not just for my wallet but for my peace of mind. I can always come back and get a new house.... Eventually lol. That said, my money can go to other things! Like World of Warcraft 😅.
This just shows that they need to release MMO style content on expansion release. These zones are super pointless outside of story. The fates within them are unjustifiably trash content. They could bring these zones to life with players and character if they filled them with exploration zone style. It's the obvious solution.
I think ive been asking for this since 3.x "stormblood". Like man... imagine a conquest FFXI style content. 3 nations can fight for control for the different zones for 1 week intervals. Rewards, mats, vendors then appear in cities, outposts/aether camps. Smaller group exp partys maybe, or fate partys with fates that can kidnap somewhat important npc and maybe create a different objective for fates if your from a different nation. 2.x actually had something similar with Highbridge in thanalan but i imagine that still had ties to 1.0 and ffxi dev team. The mmo devs are long gone from SE id imagine.
This is the biggest problem I have with the game, the world is so dead i can't undertand why people bother with mounts when theres nowhere to travel to
They def could shake up the FATEs in their design as well as a lot of the overworld content, but the overworld also has maps, hunts and gathering, which are all fairly popular activities. The question is whether or not the spahgetti code allows.
@Lesgo67 OK while I can agree with you on gathering, its pretty much a solo activity. Hunts and Maps are not overworld content. Maps take you to a total separate instance so thats like saying extremes are open world content. Hunts are the only thing that are truly open world but they are terrible. You can't even see the hunt half the time and it dies in 30 seconds. I wouldn't really count something like that as "content". If they synced to the amount of people doing them better or if there wasn't mass server hoping it could probably be counted as the only good open world content but it just can't since they've designed it to where server hoppers can flood hunts. They need to make actual open world content that gets a community playing together.
Was so happy to see you comment on this. I had this exact conversation with some friends in discord in response to this article, and you absolutely nailed our thoughts. I truly don't think the content itself is the problem, of course there can be more and different things, but the release order is really holding things back. So yeah, well done, perfectly articulated in my opinion.
I played pretty much everyday for 5 years, and after I finished DT back in July I haven't logged in. I Really didn't enjoy DT so I'm fine with taking an extended break. xD
Same here I have played other games more than FF14 ever since I finished the DT MSQ. I quit Savage prog because I was not feeling it even though the story, theme and gameplay is solid. The Main/Optional Dungeons and Extreme Trials are great but it is not enough for me to keep on playing the game everyday. Usually I would try to max level all my Jobs but I just don't feel like it. Most of the time I would just log in to level up my alts and that's usually just once or twice a week.
I feel like adding some sort of Zone journal or something like that would be cool. I think lost ark had/has something like that, so basically you'd have a journal for each zone and have some checklists like, complete all of the quests, kill x amount of each hunt monster, gather every possible item in the zone etc and combine the shared fate system with that too. Basically doing that requires adding nothing but a list and some rewards (like regional glam/Adv. plates) but would add a lot of stuff to do for people who just like grinding out some objectives to get some rewards. Then my less realistic thing i'd hope for is adding critical engagements and duels to zones. Would make the world feel more alive since after you complete the MSQ and shared fates there is basically no reason to go to any of the zones again unless the MSQ takes you there or you are doing hunts or gathering.
This is kind of the reason I've been on hiatus from FF14 and playing Guild Wars 2 instead... The "map completion" of finding points of interest, vistas, waypoints, etc. is at least somewhat of a reason to explore the world instead of just queuing up and waiting for almost every piece of content...
I think the biggest problem is 7.1 is heavily leaned towards hardcore players. Post DT for the past 6 months almost has been mostly hardcore content. Savage, extremes, Ultimate, chaotic raids. Meanwhile the casual or midcore player has normal raids, msq, and alliance raids. The longform content everyone can do shouldn't be taking almost a year to release. I know it's not the case, but DT really does look like the hardcore raider expansion so far. I don't raid so I get to do a few trials an alliance raid and the short msq then what I log off? That's really bad for longevity and I can understand why people will not want to play. Yeah we can not sub, but I want to play this game but they aren't giving me anything to actually do in game
it nto safe dt aloen is the biggest f you to casual player unlike ew that cater to them and hardcores only while ignoring the midcore dt openly is take away the fun for the 70 to 80% of the playerbase aka casuals.
The direction this game is going currently MSQ and content wise... unlike WoW, Guild Wars etc. FF14 didn't change much fundamentally since Heavensward. The formula is stale "risk" and "change", something the dev team has clearly abandoned...
I'm really getting tired of this long wait for content, especially mid-tier stuff. On top of that, after six months of trying, I still can’t get a house because of this lottery nonsense. The advice to just "unsub and play something else" feels so odd, why create a game dynamic where you enjoy it briefly only to be pushed out again? It’s a frustrating cycle, and honestly, at this rate, it almost feels like quitting would make more sense then to wait and return, pure nonsense take by the dev's. Smaller mmos and games have more content than this shit at times.
I'm less patient for content because the MSQ already left me in a state of not being satisfied. With past expansions, the MSQ hype has helped sustain my excitement and made me look forward to the new content. That's not the case with Dawntrail, unfortunately. I'm actually bored this time.
@Pmak I understand that, but I can't force myself to enjoy it. I wish I did. I've been through all of the ups and downs since 1.0. I actually liked the middle of Dawntrail, but I wasn't really invested in or excited by the hero or the true villain of the story. Both fell kinda flat for me. I'm optimistic that it will get better, but it's definitely the main reason why I'm underwhelmed with the game at the moment.
For me I think we're feeling the fallout of the big player boom in ShB and EW. After years of constant playing, many players have done about everything they want to do and new content cant keep up with the demand. Obviously some players are happy to keep going, but these extended waits with limited content (that only some people do) have caught up to the relatively-newer playerbase
The gap between 7.0 and 7.1 is 5 months, which is one month longer than the "traditional" cycle was in ARR -> ShB. We always had patches every 4 months and 2 years between expansions. The real issue was the massive nine month gap between 6.5 and 7.0, I think. The expansion schedule going to 2.5 years was understandable during Covid but not so much anymore. Unless they were just trying to level set back to their old summer releases and will do that from now on, they need to hopefully get back to those 2 year gaps without 7, 8, 9 month gaps between the late patches and having to spread out all the other patches a little more. A 4 month wait was always just long enough to make you start to want more without feeling overlong, but even 5 months starts to strain patience.
It's kinda insane to nowadays think about how 4.5 dropped in like mid JAN i believe and 5.0 was in july of the same year. The almost 9 months of basically nothing new between .5 and .0 is rough now
You will probably get a lot of hate from the toxic 14 fans that can't take any form of criticism towards their favorite game for making this video but I really do appreciate you coming out and talking about the real problems 14 has. As someone who have been playing this game for 6 years now (I have 8000+ hours) I finally decided to quit the game in DT. Absence of meaningful content, slow patch cycle and lack of innovation from the devs were the reasons why I decided to do so. I really do like this game and it will always have a special place in my heart but I simply can't take the same old same old anymore. I really hope SE realizes the potential and importance of 14 and shows it the respect it deserves so that I can come back to Eorzea in the future.
They never will sadly, they do minimal effort for maximum revenue and wont invest in better infrastructure, architecture etc to invest in other flops and then do the surprised pikachu face when people have moved on. The ploy of pay sub to keep house, but play other games due to lack of content is quite crappy and the DT expansion where they think that we are kids shows their contempt for us.
Letting Creative Business Unit 3 handle so many projects at once, with FF16 and other things was too much, and it really impacted FF14. I think that now after the 5th add-on, people notice how limited and predictable the formula has become (The quest structure, always 6 zones, 3 trials, same dungeon structure, longer patch cycle etc.) this actively hurts my enjoyment of the MSQ and the whole game...and in that respect, nothing new has happened. Taking a break until the next expansion comes out
Let's see, this side of toxic 14 fans have no form of deferral of gratification, rush through brand new content they like, don't try anything new, then blame the dev team. Yeah, I don't see it as the dev team's fault. ESPECIALLY if we got new content every month or 2 months, ya'll would be complaining about the quality of the content then. The dev team can't win with ya'll. You all will always complain. If you're always complaining, then it's usually you're own fault.
People who enjoy the content and don't want to hear continuous complaining about how there is "nothing to do" after a large percentage of the player base hasn't even done content outside of raiding and job leveling is worse than people who complain endlessly about a cycle we have always had that is basically part of the identity of the game at this point? You are not special, you are a pickme amongst a crowd of them, doing selective content, finishing it in 2 weeks, and then sitting in the townsquare yelling for everyone to hear about how you are bored while the rest of us are taking advantage of content that has been around for years, much of it untouched by the player base. MrHappy assumes a lot of players are like him, in that he focuses on raid content, and has much of what he wants to do completed already. That is simply not the case, and frankly as a main representative of the game he should be more considerate of that responsibility instead of reading this article which many believe is garbage and just saying "yeah its mostly right" when its not. Everyone is talking like an extra 2 weeks is somehow killing their family, when in reality if we got content sooner, you would all complete it and then complain that we have nothing else to do. The fact of the matter is, I would rather throw my hat in with those who enjoy the game, and aren't expecting some kind of messiah level miracle to change the content cycle and keep players "happy" than I would throw my hat in with miserable people who criticize everything down to the boots on the glamour we get.
I don't think he really has the final say on which studio works on what. Sure he can say "I think we can do it" or "I am not too sure" but ultimately if the bosses want CS3 to do something they will make them do it. This has happened before with Nomura when they put him as producer/director on three AAA projects from different studios (FFvsXIII -> FFXV, KH3, FFVIIR).
@@Blahblah-oo7lk Yoshi-P is literally on the board of directors. He has more say in the company than Nomura does actually. If anyone has the ability to decide what his team works on it's him. And as much as they say XVI didn't interfere with XIV's development, if he is claiming they don't have enough people than stretching that team thinner for more games can only worsen the issue he claims they have
these content droughts and getting people to do niche things makes me miss how we former 11players survived with daily exp /merripo parties then have our statics, so we had something to always fill in the time.
A question about Unreal EX Trials. Why is there only ever one? I mean the fights are already designed and animated. So why can't we have, for example, 3 that cycle every week? Why do we only get one Unreal fight per patch, months of grinding the same fight every week with absolutely no variation. It feels like a lot of content just gets abandoned after release.
Theres enough relic stages to be able to release the exploration zone at .0, and update it every patch with a non-shiny stage at .0, shiny at .1, etc. with the final stage at .5 They could also easily adjust the release of some of the content to shuffle the schedule. I have absolutely no idea why they put an ultimate alongside a savage 24 man in the same patch, especially this early in the cycle. To me it would make way more sense to save the Ultimate for .5 when a lot of the raiders are functionally just completely done with the game. (I just have memories of Hector and MTQ not even bothering with videos for the .5 extreme for a while)
Agree. It's baffling to me that they never considered releasing the Exploration Zone in the .0.5, because it would make a lot of sense to have it updated in the two subsequent even patches. Especially when that kind of content touches every spectrum of players, from the casual to the hardcores.
As a former WoW player before getting into XIV at the beginning and everything else the only thing WoW stacks value for is the cash shop and continues to do that. XIV might be having few issues since Endwalker and generally some reasonable points made in that article but I feel there's some delusion going on for thinking WoW gives good value. WoW actively punishes you for not playing it daily like a damn job, that obliterates whatever value it's alleged to have.
Gonna be real, I have been playing both and having way more fun with WoW. I have not had any community related problems, and I have content I actually want to do. PvP, M+ and Delves are fun for me, as someone who plays 2-3 days a week. I hop onto FF once a week to get my sword, and there's no reason to do anything else. I cannot keep running the same 3 dungeons and same 4 raids every week with nothing beyond that. So I'll leave it up to personal experience where I'm getting my value from. /shrug
WoW no longer punishes you for playing daily since 2 years ago with its previous expansion. They long since did away with endless AP grinds. And this expansion made all progress account wide. Reputation, currency, etc etc.
WoW's community is also probably the worst I've ever encountered which makes wanting to stick around extremely difficult. There are less insane and less racist people on /pol/ than in WoW trade chat.
Can we stop with this delusion of XIV being this game that lets you give a break? The everchanging gear score requirement with each patch, the same as with WoW, tombstones cap, weekly raid gear cap, and housing forces you to keep renewing the sub for around 2 months.
Im just looking for something interesting. Having the formula over and over is stale. It's an unfair comparison because gacha games are making blood money. But when I think about HSR compared to the game, im paying monthly for. HSR is adding bi-monthly story updates with truly unique events to keep people invested between story drops. I go from running a store for a week to participating in a colliseum. This month, we even had a rhythm game and became the manager of a festival. Best of all, these are all mini stories with no MSQ relevance. So if you skipped a couple and dont want to go back. It doesn't affect the story's enjoyment at all. Meanwhile, in ffxiv, im paying just to keep a house or finally getting an event just to talk to 3 people in gridania and log out. Again. Gachas make that blood money, but there's got to be something in between.
I think people kept asking about Wuk Lamat and Picto because the devs response was kind of a non-response... which is kind of par for the course for Japanese devs. But for a lot of people this kind of reaction is their first time.
I wouldn't mind lvling from a lower lvl if the combat wasn't so awful at anything below lvl 80. The combat kit suffers from level dilution BAD. I can't imagine picking up the new, exciting job and being forced to go up 80 levels before I can actually start experiencing their kit.
If it were up to me, all new jobs would be unlockable after completing ARR non-patch MSQ (like red mage and samurai) and start at level 1. Job variety doesn't mean much when you have to play most of the game already before you get to play the job you actually do want. Thankfully I actually like black mage, but who knows if that would be the case if I started today and had to experience TODAY'S lamer version of black mage...
Last time i was this early, ppl were still arguing about how ppl should go play something else On the note about the relic weapons and field op. I 100% agree. Making something like a simple trial thats sets up the relics, like old chimera in ARR. And give the first version of the weapon, but low i level. Again like the old ARR relics when we plundered the old torn up versions from different spots. Maybe instead of a trial it can be a dungeon that has things required to make the true weapon when the field op comes out. Idk i feel like these are all cool ideas. Making new content without powerscaling tho is v tough. A new exp grind would be very appreciated tho.
If the game doesnt offer good content you should play other games is tru BUT people use it as means to invalidate criticism. This is a live service and if we dont like the content and its schedule we have to complain for it to get better, or it will only get worse.
Absolutely insane how these spineless losers will tell you to play another game instead of attempting to fix the current one How do these creatures survive on a daily basis?
Couldnt agree more. I love this game and would love to play more but its so tough to find anything to do currently. I play pretty much every content religiously aside of raiding but ive not had any reason to log in since normal raid launch. Now seeing .1 is just 4 new flavors of raider content leaves me pretty frustrated. Where is the "casual content"? Wheres the new eureka/bozja? Wheres variants? Wheres the new deep dungeon? Beastmaster? ANYTHING that is NOT RAIDS. And all we ever get is "oh just wait 4 months until the next patch. oh still nothing? well just wait another 4 months until next patch. oh still nothing? well just wait another year until next expansion, PROMISE!!!". Im still dumbfounded how people complained about DRKs state for 4 years and on the DT class preview stream they dropped "i know this sucks, just wait till 8.0 then it wont suck as much anymore PROMISE!! JUST 2 MORE YEARS GUYS!!" and its like what do you mean "2 more years"? youve known its an issue, you failed to adjust it for DT somehow and then you dont even care enough to adjust it in .1 but push it off to next expansion AGAIN. Why cant they just dynamically respond to feedback like most other games can. Whys it always "next patch next patch next patch next expansion". Being out of 14s environment for a bit makes you realize what a permanent blueball it is a lot of the time.
Thank you for your meaningful contribution, xXL0stk1llahxX, however im afraid i must inform you that a wide variety of players exist, who not all enjoy the same type of content. Raiding is an activity with a smaller following (or atleast not as big as you apparently seem to think), therefore structuring a game solely on that is not a sustainable business practice for this game. Maybe it works in other games but 14 cultivated a much more casual player base. Nuance. I am happy for you to enjoy raiding (seemingly) but I wouldnt berate you and tell you to go play ocean fishing in a time where they're not putting any raids out and you are frustrated with that fact. Balance is important, every side should get something out of a patch.
They have no reason to change anything. hoardes of mindless shills defending every action of theirs will make sure of that. At this point it truly is better to find another permanent game and quit ffxiv all together
@@BaithNa raiding is literally the whole point of the game. Running them to get the best gear possible is what should be taking up your time lol. You casuals make me laugh
I've played this game the last 8 years and the content schedule has never gotten to me until this last patch. There are so many other games that do so much more than just something every half year or so. I started my first Hoyo game with HSR and the speed of content updates is staggering. I know it's gacha, but still. Even just more communication like "Here's what we're working on" would go so far.
Honestly I think it being gacha is just more of an indictment of 14. Like, "Even the friggin' gacha games are doing better at this whole 'having reasonable content flow' thing, get your shit together squenix"
Ditto. I have been playing since patch 2.2 and there's nothing in this patch that makes me interested or excited at all. I haven't had that feeling since 3.1.
@@masterjoda999 It's also like Happy said. FF14 has / had lots of goodwill. Gachas don't have that really. Players there are often more than happy to just jump to the next shiny so they HAVE to deliver. FF14 has it's homefield advantage and can't even use that correctly.
The FFXIV dev team size just needs to be increased. Most of the stuff that they put out is good, its just not enough. For the players that are caught up and have done most of the stuff in the game the issue is currently lack of quantity, not quality.
This is not happening. All the revenue from the game is flowing into literally anything else but the game itself e.g. new final fantasy game, new SE IP, or even that sorry mobile port. That's why we have to wait for 4.5 months for a big patch.
I mean, it seems like a simple problem but it really isn't. We know they set out a basic plan for content a long time in advance and have a very set content production schedule. They can't just press the "more content sooner" button and have it instantly appear. There's also the question of what sort of content they add. What they added would need to both provide content for the players while not being something that felt forced on those who didn't want to treat the game like a job. I know people watching and commenting on a MrHappy video are going to find time to complete everything but most of the people who play the game aren't like that and don't want to feel forced to log in and grind away at things. That's really why a lot of people choose to play FF14 instead of other MMOs to begin with. On top of that we need to keep in mind that whatever content they did add to the game would only keep a certain subset of players occupied for so long. Some players refuse to take their time with things and feel the need to complete everything ASAP even if it means playing the game in an unhealthy way... and then they'll still complain there isn't enough for them to do. Things like the FATE gem mounts and the World Class Troller title were meant to be long term goals but some people felt the need to grind them out in a week. Now I'm not saying the game doesn't need to have more content available sooner. I absolutely do think that would be good, but it's not as simple and easy as a lot of people want to say it is.
Being forced to ocean fish 1000 times is not content. It gives no meaningful rewards, and pushes out everyone except people botting or achievement hunting, which is so small its practically nothing. Real content would be challenges that give collectibles like glam or minions in non repetitive ways, or reasons for everyone to log in everyday, such as: Alternate party comps (complete this fight with all tanks and get this unique mount) Variant style normal dungeons (activate x thing to fight harder boss, with better odds at whatever collectibles ot drops) Do all your roulettes per day to get a special currency, which you can save up a ton to get high end gear or collectibles, such that the list is continually added onto, refreshed and strong enough for high end players to care. Imagine you could farm an ornate piece of gear at bis item level right before ultimate, if you played everyday. Bonus if mentors get a little extra of the above for doing x mentors a week, to give them a reason to actually do their job.
@@dreamer897 It's not content for you, but it's content for some (Happy used it as an example himself in this video). Just look at the comments here and you'll see a bunch of people just asking for something to grind and that certainly fits the bill. But that's sort of my point. It would actually be very easy for the devs to put in buys work grinds. Just boost the numbers needed for things and Bam there's your "longer form content." Is it good or satisfying? Nope, but that is all that some people want. They just want the game to keep them busy. I actually agree with you in that there are other, better ways to do it, but those things take time. Doesn't mean they can't be done or shouldn't be done, but it's not as easy as just pressing the Do button. Even in your modest examples, they would need to create new UI elements, hooks into existing systems (which we know is an issue for the systems) and new rewards for all of that.
Bring back a real grind, nothing in 14 can be classified as an out right old school MMo grind. The biggest problem with 14 is its players lol, cries when content is too long, cries when content is hard, cries content is easy, cries content is short, cries about open world competitiveness, cries nothing to do in open world. Cries about can't solo, cries about too much solo. Is there anything people actually enjoy?
The reason why you hearing "complain" from everywhere, it's because Yoshi-P's delusional decision to "pander" everyone. A game for everyone is a game for no one.
We enjoy content. Content everyone can do. Raiding is great, but not everyone raids and waiting over 10 months for any content that is longer than usual and involves everyone is unacceptable when you pay a monthly sub to just log into the game. People complain all the time everywhere, you have to listen to the actual criticism and not the nonsensical screaming. Right now if you don't raid 7.1 is a very short time sink you can be done with in a few days. While raiders get to play for a few months. That doesn't seem fair when the majority of players don't raid
MSQ, no matter how good, does not tide the average player over for 19 weeks. It's why people are saying they wish relic/field operations/etc were released earlier in the expansion cycle, so that they have something to do in the months of literally nothing happening.
@@cariandi yes it does and no the average player isnt you a clear midcore player who want eureka(not casual contet) it the causal player who like to play to relax and not be challanged .
Even the major frontline changes that we all thought would be in 7.1 were pushed back. I don't know what's going on at that company. They just arent putting out content
Funny that you should mention it, but out of curiosity I went to the careers page on Square's official website and one of the first things that was shoved down my throat was their active participation in "DEI" practices. Looking at the current track record of companies within AAA space, who put any relevance to these things, they tend to have a lot of staff who tend to yap a lot of useless bs on twitter instead of working the mines and churning out content. Not sure if this could affect CBU, but who knows at this point, honestly.
I’ve never really had an issue with finding things to do. I enjoy helping my FC mates do things, taking part in social activities, working on long term goals on the side. I really just haven’t experienced this issue myself and I’ve been playing since ARR. Maybe my perspective is just different
There are a few things going on in the last few expansions that just seemingly keep getting worse. Relics need to be availible much earlier in an expansions life cycle, and unlike EW have actual content tied to it other then doing 3 Hildi quests and then spending 1500 tomestones. I might not have enjoyed Bozja and Eureka 100%, but atleast it was something to do. Furthermore it feels we have been getting less content in seasonal events like summer and halloween, and all of them have just boil down to 3 npc's we need to talk to nowadays. Where is the Hauke Manor haunted house puzzle dungeon we had a few years ago? Completely gone. Where are the fates to farm event currency? Not seen in years. The thing that worries me the most with this schedule, that if it doesn't change, they wont hit the pre Endwalker "every 2 years in the summer expansion release" cycle they had, and we are looking at 3 years till the next expansion, and another 6 month drought between the last DT patch and whatever that expansion is.
It's baffling how they would release the most mid MSQ to date and then ask us to wait for another 4-6 months until an actual brand new expansion-related content would drop, probably with some form of artifical cap on top. Where are exploratory zones? Where is beast mastery? At least one feature of that category should be available straight up on launch to let us start grinding towards rewards over the long-term. I really can't be asked doing raids anymore - I just wanna log in and chill for a few couple of hours in a new place akin to Bozja or Eureka.
My problem with Bozja and Eureka is that its just repeated , grind fluff. I dont care for that kind of content, I rather have more bit sized engaging social content than something thats padded out for the sake of the sub. With that in mind, I wish there was more minor frequency in content releases
@@atelierbagur3831 I didn't play Eureka much at release but completed it in Shadowbringers. To me this place was so fun because it made you join it's micro community and you got to hang out with people with a shared goal. Lots of banter, people helping each other with raises and teaming up on notorious monsters. I haven't had fun like that in this game since. Even Bozja had this to a lesser extent. Maybe the "mindless content" can be a vehicle for fun than just a means to an end?
@@gramt4685 No its completely stupid. I rather have the social aspects WHILE not having to deal with mindless grinding. All you do in Eureka is just non-chalant meme in chat because the activity is so mind numbing boring. This content can be better and the fact that people are accepting this sub-par quality is telling to how far we've fallen for better standards in content for MMOs. Heck Im currently playing WoW Classic and the community and content is MUCH better over there so FFXIV should take some lessons into creating engaging social activity from older games.
I've been doing the 'awktrail' scaled content which essentially makes all of the previous expansion savage tiers and coils into unreal difficulty and rejuvenates a boatload of content for raiding players. crazy how a few dedicated volunteer players can do this but it takes 2 patch cycles for devs to release a single unreal extreme trial.
I'm one of those casual-midcore players logging in every day, capping tomes, leveling other jobs. I had no idea there was a content release schedule issue. I've just been happily playing.
ya at this point if you're caught up and played a long time, it's every time a patch drops, you go on play the content for a week or two, hope your friends join in at that patch cycle, try to do some social activities if ppl are up for it, if not you're done before the month's sub time is up, repeat every 4 months till you quit from boredom
this x.x6/8 thing mentioned is the mogtomes. It should definitely be something specific to the new expac like relics or field content beginning like you mentioned, but that is what they have put in that place to fill the content void prior to a new major patch coming.
I love Blue mage and I’m looking forward greatly to Beastmaster, both activities which will heavily reuse old assets… and I’ll STILL have to wait a whole year from now.
It's just sad. I want to play ffxiv, but there's nothing to do. The only reason I stay subbed is for my house. I wish they would change the 45-day demolition system if they can't even add 45 days' worth of content in an expansion launch...
When housing alone is enough to get you continuosly subbed to FFXIV despite your dissatifsfaction toward current state of FFXIV, then why should SQEX and CS3 put more effort to pump out content to make you "engaged"?
I agree, it would be nice if they released something that would keep our interest long term. I love that they release all the savages & ultimates but for someone like me who doesn’t do savage, something else would be nice, even updated PVP.
I've quit the game for now. There's nothing in the foreseeable future that'll give me a good reason to come back atm. Maybe at the end of the expansion when everything is out, even then I have 0 interest in the current MSQ.
One of my biggest gripes is that, if we look at previous expansions, we might have to wait for 2 major patches to be able to exchange extreme mounts. It wasn't such a big deal before when major content was coming out every 3 months. But now that it's every 4 months, am i supposed to accept that i can only exchange it AFTER 8 months?! That's practically half of the expansion's lifetime! And quite frankly, i will never understand the decision to make the patch cycle longer back in endwalker, when the game was at the "peak" of its popularity thanks to the WoW exodus. Its like they went "oh hey, the game is getting even more popular what can we do to improve? OH I KNOW! LETS MAKE THE PATCH CYCLE EVEN LONGER!"
You cant convince me that there are no qualified nerds getting degrees in game design in Japan. Them not being able to not find qualified workers is either them being too stingy or them not putting actual effort into finding people
There's actually a serious lack of game developers coming into the workforce in every region. It's a thankless job and way more demanding than the compensation recieved. Unionization would help but that would require companies from across the globe to coordinate together and for governments to work in lock step with them.
@BaithNa yeah workers be getting screwed over in every field nowadays. It's not like square doesn't have good money to attract talent, but it's gotta go to the stockholders lol
@oriji8139 They have the money sure, but look how it's used. It would basically be career suicide to work at Square Enix for anybody with talent and experience already, because it's evident they have run on fumes for a couple years atleast now, with little innovation.
Hot take: Hildebrand needs to go. I’m sorry but FF14 is an MMO, not a visual novel. Resources should go to actual content. If they’re gonna double down on it - at the very least - add voice acting.
That’s not even a hot take, just a weird one, considering the hildibrand series gave us a handful of trials over the years, so it’s not as much of a visual novel as you say it is
@@undercoverspy123now thats a hot take. Who cares for the rarity of a relic thats more common than a lvl 50 extrial weapon because its as low efford as it can get. Relics used to be a display of dedication. Hildibrands were a display of devs being distracted.
I totally agree with what you're saying. As a long-time player of FFXIV, I remember in 2.0 when the regular updates had satisfying content/amounts of content. We got three whole dungeons and a fairly substantial relic step for each of the major patches. Nowadays we just get a single dungeon per patch and EndWalker's entire relic chain was just a tomestone exchange. SE really needs to do something about how relatively small and unsatisfying updates have become. I'm bored as heck of running the same three dungeons for months on end for a fractional Ilvl increase.
The thing that really hurt patches IMO was when they decided to split them in half regularly. Patches used to be very frontloaded to the point that some complained about option paralysis and feeling forced to do one kind of content first over what they actually wanted to do. SE heard that feedback and now maybe half of a given patch will come in .x and the rest will come a couple months later in the .x5 patch. Now if the content you were really looking forward to is relegated to the second half you have two more months to wait. XIV used to have some of the biggest patches around and it was great. Now they're more spread out but each one feels anemic.
We just need more current content, period. The patches with new dungeons and a trial or two isn't enough, especially when the newest stuff is the only way to farm the newest tomestones. I miss the old days when we also got "hard" modes of dungeons. To reuse older content, I also would love some sort of difficulty modifier system that would let you make a dungeon harder, but give more tomes/gil/whatever, to make grinding the crap every week less exhausting. Even stuff like a boss rush of every dungeon boss from an expac would at least be interesting. Or a survival against waves style pve experience. Or an endless dungeon mode where you queue into random dungeons that are synched to YOUR level with a random and stackable debuff to make them increasingly difficult and try to clear as many as you can before needing to tap out. And lastly but probably most importantly... please rework the level sync system. It feels absolutely trash to lose 90% of your kit as soon as you queue into anything but a max level dungeon. The current system was designed for a job system with cross classing that doesn't exist anymore, and needs to be updated to work with current and forseeable job design strategies. What seems like the easiest way would be to let all skills be usable at any level once you unlock them, but at reduced cabapilities/potencies when level synced below the level they are learned. Basically once learned a skill is always available, but the passives that buff them are not if you don't meet the level requirement. So if I level synch to sastasha as a level 100 DRG I have a full 5 hit combo, all my ogcds and what not, but only the base forms of my buttons (jump not high jump, one charge on chargeable skills, shorter feint duration, etc.)
I 100% agree with the takes on the article. Its how I've felt since Dawntrails launch and a big part of why I moved away from FF14 as a whole. I personally can't deal with the fact that the game is literally the same with different colors on each expansion so for a casual player you have nothing exiting and new to look out for. Now, I can forgive them this time because they had the Graphics overhaul to deal with and that takes time and effort, but it 100% should have been something that was NOT part of the main development of the expansion. Which it clearly was. But even considering that I have high doubts SE is willing to change away from their "package" model where every expansion comes with the same bells and whistles for perpetuity. I personally wanted them to move away from FATE's, which at this point are a 10year old game mechanic that no-one actually is exited for, replace it with something more modern and interesting. Treasure hunts are barely ok, but they repeat the same dungeon design system from 10years ago and it's just not fun anymore. And sadly, from the responses I've gotten it seems that the entire FF14 community are on this mindset that there's n reason to expect anything else, which is really bothering me. Like, SE is feeding you the same piece of bread and are ok with it? I just couldn't take it anymore and I'm relatively new player to FF14. I started with the very beginning of ShB and already feel like the game is not providing me value beyond the story. As much as I like raiding, it's not what I want to do 24/7 until the next piece of content comes out. And frankly, if it takes them almost 6months to come up with new pieces of content, why not just release an expansion much later? I would 100% prefer to have an expansion that comes with a lot of stuff after the story, than have these wait periods after every .x update. It just wasn't worth my time anymore and I've been out of the game for 90days now and much happier for it, playing other games. Occasionally I check what's going on and write a wall of text XD
I feel you. Im taking a break till the next expansion. im pretty confident they will adress some issues people have with dawntrail. But i also fear they won't adress the BIG issues this game has, like its predictable formular (always 6 zones, 3 trials, same dungeon structure) that actively hurts my enjoyment of the MSQ. And characters that long overstayed their welcome (Scions) are still with us... They don't have to do more content, they just have to "change" and "innovate" their content... Instead of the predictable "6 zones every addon formular", why not do 5 zones and 1 post-addon zone for example? Or give areas like (Doma, Hingashi, Vylbrand) from older addons more zones as part of the new MSQ. All this would be way more interesting. But CBU3 stopped to innovate or try more risky things a long time ago
i wouldn't mind having to grind for unlocking more freaking glamour dresser space. like... give us 3 more stages or something. but yeah, i guess ... something something.. spaghetti code... blablah
and the thing there is, they DID do them earlier both in ARR and Heavensward they delayed them in Stormblood because they wanted to connect the weapons to Eureka, and then Eureka wasn't ready to launch on time. And now they've just continued that delayed start to the relics ever since. I preferred the Heavensward style system where the relic grind was largely connected to doing content and purchasing materials with the uncapped tomestone, making it so everything you did could be contributing to your progression on the relic. Sure, make it so that the exploration zone is one option to get those materials, but they need to not feel like the exploration zone is required. I feel like you can see how it made it so fewer players were interested in getting relics when you look at the achievements of how many players at the time had multiple Heavesnward relics completed to how many people had even one Stormblood relic
i thought 3 months was fine, but 4 months is just absurd. going from 12wks to 20wks is insane of nothing. it feels like nothing is happening. i finished most stuff in 1,5 months. and just been logging in to do reclears which is another mess. they gotta do smth about weekly loot as well
To be clear we never had a 12 week schedule. The game has been on the usual 17 week schedule until Endwalker, minus the occasional extended cycles like 2.1, 3.1 and the covid update schedule
Again another perfect example of random misinfo parroted with no fact checking, all the patches have dates lol "going from 12wks to 20wks is insane of nothing". Classic
@@Mrhappy1227 sorry i meant i would like a 3 month cycle, its just enough time to do everything and not feel rushed, from my experience as a casual to mid core activity, always feels like its 1 month too long to wait. great content btw MrHappy! love your videos
Yeah the one and done content is tough. For those that don’t raid we get on for a little bit, maybe run extremes? I would love the crafting/gathering or relic steps to start earlier too.
My friend group played almost daily in Shadowbringers, mostly daily in Endwalker, and now we're lucky enough to log in once a week in Dawntrail. Which sucks. Thankfully we have other games. But I WANT to play FFXIV. I WANT to be on the game doing cool stuff. But it just feels like there's nothing coming up. To your point, no roadmap. And I don't feel like the patches that are coming out will be beafy or rewarding enough to keep me around. I only maintain my sub for my house.
We can do all kind of micro adjustment in signaling, hyping, talking, teasing, all tricks a dev team and producer can do, but at the end of the day, without more reinvestment from SQEX, without more content, especially repeatable content, all these are smokes and mirror. CBU3 have been able to hide behind a great MSQ to keep people feel better about the expansion for longer time, Dawntrail doesn't have that, perhaps it's the ''best expansion'' for some people, Wuk Lamat best girl etc, but not enough people are as engaged as before, leaving the barren content schedule more visible.
The problem with FF14 is that *all* if it's content has to be hitting in order to keep the cracks from showing. If the raids are bad or the story doesn't hit or the patches are lacking then it only serves to highlight how stale and shallow the rest of game has become.
The problem with the "it's ok to unsub" philosophy is that it's near impossible not to unsub. PF is dead. Queues are long af. My entire friends list and FC is offline. The only people playing the game are sprouts, achievements hunters and Limsa mains. I would love to play the game but how exactly am I supposed to do that?
Pretty much hit all my feelings. Relic grinds or equivalent needs to hit sooner. Preferably before the x.1 patch if possible. Something to work towards that isn't just savage. I also think they need to lean into the first M in mmo a but more and have it be something where large groups can participate. My personal thought is they should focus on current side content for the first step such as fates. Perhaps add some new fates as part of the x.06/08 patch that you need to beat. For example, add one or more fate chains which get kicked off regularly if players are clearing fates in the zone. End the chain with some sort of mega fate boss. Have each step give progress on the relic so people have a reason to participate in the whole chain. Throw in some minion or mount or glam you can buy via tokens obtained from the final boss to encourage longevity.
After switching from FFXIV to WoW, I really wished FFXIV had the same content Schedule that WoW has now. It really feel like an eternity before you get any content on FF now
You know, goldfish actually have an incredibly great memory. XD As a person who has only been playing for a few years there is still stuff on my bucket list, I could see how the long times between new content could really bother people who have been playing a long time though.
the relic weapon should become an "other content" grind again. and field operations need to come in a x.1 latest so that we have something to do from much earlier on.
I tried the game years ago. Back in the day I didn't have time or money for a subscription based mmo. A few weeks ago i decided to drop a chunk of money for the complete edition and a few glamours and I am having a blast. I as a fresh player feel like i am getting my money worth. There's an insane amount of stuff to do. I can only imagine running out of things to do
I know I would love them to put something else besides the stock standard content into the base expansion launch, or actually release the side content on a major patch instead of just waiting until at least .x5 for everything but raids and msq
I'll agree with most things here Happy. Especially as someone who doesn't necessarily get into Savage, I always end up unsubbing from the game while waiting for the next major patch unless there's a seasonal event of some kind with decent rewards. I've finished msq and got my fill of normal raids, leveled all my main jobs to 100, including doh/l, did some FATE grinding, etc, then fell out things to keep me on. Just waiting for the next piece of content
Been playing this game for 10 years plus, always wonder why they wouldn’t implement the relic system for all gear parts, chest, legs etc. Something to work on while the big updates happen.
The lack of a roadmap must be a reaction to how endwalker’s content release went. Like island sanctuary having a long lead up between announcement and release setting people’s expectations above what the content actually delivered. If they keep quiet or vague it’s a pleasant surprise to learn close to 7.1 that chaotic alliance raid is a thing. But there definitely needs to be a bit more of a roadmap for excitement to build up.
I know they've said that it's not a simple fix, but if they could implement a proper collection system like WoW's transmog system, it would help encourage more running of content (both current and old) to collect glams. Sure, we have the glamour chest, but I filled that thing not long after they doubled the cap to 800.
I think moving around the flagship draws for the expansion such as the exploration zone is a very tall order. MAYBE i could see them doing some introductory relic step, that would be wonderful. But moreso i really dont understand the reservation on unreal, and their seeming reluctance to follow its trend of popularity. Its such low effort/maintenance content to create and keep going. Why dont we see anything more like this? Remastered dungeons, more challenging versions of them, more weekly quests or incentives that encourage people to go into content we already have. This is something that ff seriously lacks, to some its seen as a benefit so the game doesnt seem to be trying to rope them in constantly, but its betraying to the people who want a real mmo. Surely there is some healthy middle ground here.
I find yoship comment about they needing more experience people not only money baffling even as if, on paper, its true, but he himself said that he took a lot of the seniors from ff14 to ff16 while claiming that it had no effect on ff14. But also says that a lot of things cant be implemented just with money that they would need... more... seniors... I feel like im being gaslighted
you mentioned addition savage fights. i think it’d be dope if they added 1 extra savage fight per tier. a really cool fight that is optional but has some good rewards. idk, i feel like if they added 2 fights they may have to restructure how loot works but if they added an extra fight per tier with some kind of aesthetic or functional reward that’d be something for midcore and hardcore players to go after, after completing the base fights of the tier. instead of M1-12 it’d be M1-15 but the extra fights are aren’t necessary if you’re gearing for something like an upcoming ultimate
Ive always said a 5 boss tier will make the difficulty curve smoother. how often do we see there be a spike between boss 2 and boss 3. Look I'm someone who clears savage fairly quickly usually in the first month. That said it would help people of all levels doing Savage if that spike was smoothed out with another boss between our current 2 and 3.

thank you for including pvpers! honestly even if they dont bring out any new pvp map i just desperately want them to add rival wings to the frontline roulette or give it some sort of daily reward so i can play it more, pleaaaaase
I literally only log in for a single roulette, check my retainers n' subs, then go back to do something else. Not even gpose hits the same when there's like... very little motivation in general.
WoW's patch schedule was UTTER CHAOS. Just because they pulled the last 5 months together doesn't mean that they can't suddenly go on a 16 month bender.
I never realized the news thing until now... I just realized that I don't even know when live letters are. I'm not excited for them. I haven't looked for them. Its very strange for someone who has been playing since 2.0. I think they really need to start considering a long form progression like stuff in FFXI had. Sure, it's a lot of work, but give us something to do... I log in, clear raids in 90 minutes, log off. There's nothing left to do at this point.
This game wants me to pay $60 (4 months of a $15 sub) for content that I will finish within twelve hours. That’s absurd. The lack of communication isn’t weird, it’s downright inexcusable. Remember back during the wow exodus when we all loved bragging about how good the devs were at talking to us and keeping us in the loop? How times change huh?
I've just become a patch player. I'll sub for a month or two every patch. The game no longer offers anything worse pursing for an extended length of time.
i really wish SE would have balance and job changes more frequently and not just on a full new patch, in WoW you can expect class balance every couple weeks or so, not because the balance is bad, there is just a lot more to balance because of all the different classes and talent trees. Meanwhile in FF, jobs like DRK have felt bad to play since dawntrail launch and probably wont see any change until 7.2 (6 months roughly after launch) but probably wont see any big changes or reworks until next expansion, (2 years-ish) when things feel bad, they feel bad for a LONG time.
I'm with you on the need to not hold content until the .2x patch or later. You bring up relic weapons, and I think that's where Heavesnward did a fantastic job launching the relic a lot sooner than the subsequent expansions. It definitely feels like connecting the weapons to exploratory zones which didn't launch with the base game has gotten them into the mindset that the relic just doesn't start until later, and it seems odd that in Endwalker where it wasn't connected to that kind of content that the weapon still didn't start until the second tier of the expansion. I also think that for casual players, they could do some rebalancing of equipment rewards in the 0.5 (or maybe slightly later if need be) I think they should be removing the weekly limit from the normal mode 8-man raid before the launch of the 24 man raid. I feel like they hold those weekly caps for too long. (and on that note, I do think there's an argument that the tomestone weapon shouldn't require you to spend the weekly capped tomestone, just turn in the weekly drop items, or the item from savage, to get the weapon) Yoshida mentioned that there would be a 50% increase in gear rewards this expansion, and at least so far, things have been exactly the same as every expansion since Stormblood
They really need to shake up the formula. Give more satisfaction to combat and such. Drop Wuk Lamat and go back to ARR-EW style writing. I don’t like this super hopeful cheery shonen anime feel in DT. I can’t connect to the story. Let me use all my skills no matter the dungeon. We burn through low level content as it is, a minute or two faster isn’t going to throw off the balance. It actually would incentivize and appeal lower level players to want to push content harder to get to the big flashy skills. I have other complaints but I believe those things alone would breathe new life into the game. The combat just feels stale compared to games we are getting today.
New Happy strat got a name, "Happy Rambles". Could be another name for the weekly Q&A.
At least it gave tombstones more purpose during an expansion other than getting your elite gear.
relic needs to be BiS the whole expansion, and ure continuously upgrading it through end game content, and with some minor improvements in mid patches like bodzja. i dont care about the steps if the weapon is just a cosmetic
the last hw steps the last 2 are HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS SORRY BUT +60 DUNG OR +20 SAVAGE RAIDS TO GET A SINGLE STEP IS BEYOND STUPID AND OVERDOING IT.

The content release schedule really killed the enthusiasm that the game had. Thanks for talking about it.
That's what happens when Square Siphons off all the new money to fund failed projects.
Same. I cant bother to play anymore after I realized Im only logging in to do the roulettes
Job quest are generic mmo quests wich you do once and done (the crafting ones at least have some nice lore)
Even if you have some old content to do its not the same doing current new content with people, it can feel empty and have no motivation to do, people want to play current and alive content.
@@Kurainuzexactly this. I don’t really do savages but I was excited for the PVP updates and battle/exploration zones. None of those were in the launch, and looks like we won’t see them even in 7.1. Is all the casual stuff even gonna be in til almost a year after the expac comes out?

Nah it's not happening.

but I'm with you.
I mean, wait length aside, isn't this every patch?
@@Dharengo Not necessarily. The patches that added new entire zones to Bozja or Eureka in their respective expansions, new relic steps (excluding tomestones), Firmament/Diadem, Trial series (Werlyt, warring triad, four lords etc.) and other long term progression content had more staying power.

The mmo devs are long gone from SE id imagine.
literally, man the zones feel so copy paste and empty
Runescape has achievement diaries for each region in the game, and multiple difficulties for them too. Something like that would be cool
Unfortunately they wont ever change because they are committed to playing everything safe.
it nto safe dt aloen is the biggest f you to casual player unlike ew that cater to them and hardcores only while ignoring the midcore dt openly is take away the fun for the 70 to 80% of the playerbase aka casuals.
The direction this game is going currently MSQ and content wise... unlike WoW, Guild Wars etc. FF14 didn't change much fundamentally since Heavensward. The formula is stale "risk" and "change", something the dev team has clearly abandoned...
@Kur0m0ri ever expantion they take risks with new content .
I mean, it's the start of a new saga. It's like playing ARR again, story setup needs to occur before it can be built up.

@@Jake38nine ok white knight, white knight harder ya muppet
"we cant get the staff" says yoshi as cbu3 work on 2 other games at the same time.
Us XI players are a different breed.
Theres enough relic stages to be able to release the exploration zone at .0, and update it every patch with a non-shiny stage at .0, shiny at .1, etc. with the final stage at .5
They could also easily adjust the release of some of the content to shuffle the schedule.
That and the community is still incredibly toxic. Yes FF14 has it's issues , but overall the community is incredibly kind in comparison to WoW.
This might not be a popular opinion but, I feel like having new classes not start at level One robs me of a lot of play time.
Last time i was this early, ppl were still arguing about how ppl should go play something else
On the note about the relic weapons and field op.
You're right on time, go play something else! :D
You should
If the game doesnt offer good content you should play other games is tru BUT people use it as means to invalidate criticism. This is a live service and if we dont like the content and its schedule we have to complain for it to get better, or it will only get worse.
Absolutely insane how these spineless losers will tell you to play another game instead of attempting to fix the current one
How do these creatures survive on a daily basis?
Aside from raiding lol? Now I know never to take anyone seriously that says they have nothing to do
@@xL0stKIlahendgame raiding is a small part of the game that only a small part of the community engages with 🤷♂️
Thank you for your meaningful contribution, xXL0stk1llahxX, however im afraid i must inform you that a wide variety of players exist, who not all enjoy the same type of content.
Even just the way they do content marketing makes so much of a difference for building anticipation and getting through the dry times
Ditto. I have been playing since patch 2.2 and there's nothing in this patch that makes me interested or excited at all. I haven't had that feeling since 3.1.
@@masterjoda999
It's also like Happy said.
Real content would be challenges that give collectibles like glam or minions in non repetitive ways, or reasons for everyone to log in everyday, such as:
Alternate party comps (complete this fight with all tanks and get this unique mount)
Variant style normal dungeons (activate x thing to fight harder boss, with better odds at whatever collectibles ot drops)
Do all your roulettes per day to get a special currency, which you can save up a ton to get high end gear or collectibles, such that the list is continually added onto, refreshed and strong enough for high end players to care.
@@dreamer897 You are in no way being "forced" to do so much ocean fishing for a title
Are you a omnicrafter?
Nobody wants to grind, they just want fun and engaging repeatable content
I think the main issue is that the MSQ was bad, which is what the early patches in the last couple of expansions relied on to keep people’s interest.
@@MintKEK Cool buzzwords bro whats your reddit flair
First sentence: Your opinion.
My problem with Bozja and Eureka is that its just repeated , grind fluff. I dont care for that kind of content, I rather have more bit sized engaging social content than something thats padded out for the sake of the sub.
With that in mind, I wish there was more minor frequency in content releases
@@atelierbagur3831they don't realize that most players don't want a mindless grond zone. It's not an answer for player boredom or repeatable content.
Friendly reminder wow only has 3 major patches and is extremely front loaded
Also focused on hardcore players with content like M+ being their bread n butter
and still doesnt have a dye system, ability to swap classes on one char, extremely fragmented servers, and no player housing.
I've just been happily playing.
congrats youre not a whiny crybaby like this loser and his little fanclub who's never touched grass a day in their lives
ya at this point if you're caught up and played a long time, it's every time a patch drops, you go on play the content for a week or two, hope your friends join in at that patch cycle, try to do some social activities if ppl are up for it, if not you're done before the month's sub time is up, repeat every 4 months till you quit from boredom
this x.x6/8 thing mentioned is the mogtomes.
Unsub for a while and play some other games
I play plenty of other games. The problem is I want to play ffxiv, but there is just nothing to do.
I'm a casual player maybe above casual and I'll be honest there's not much to do when you don't have many friends to play with on the game lol
More time for me to flex my mounts 💪🍗🦅
@BigChilla420 👍
Im so bored and the DT story was not good enough to make me excited for the next patch to see what happens story wise.
Hot take: Hildebrand needs to go. I’m sorry but FF14 is an MMO, not a visual novel. Resources should go to actual content. If they’re gonna double down on it - at the very least - add voice acting.
That’s not even a hot take, just a weird one, considering the hildibrand series gave us a handful of trials over the years, so it’s not as much of a visual novel as you say it is
Nah i love hildebrand, and it's relic system tied to it is the least grindy 10/10 keep it going
@@undercoverspy123now thats a hot take. Who cares for the rarity of a relic thats more common than a lvl 50 extrial weapon because its as low efford as it can get. Relics used to be a display of dedication. Hildibrands were a display of devs being distracted.
In my case, I'm fine with longer waits if it means that the team doesn't need to crunch as much
I have been trying to figure to figure out how to solo a tresure dungeon for the mog stone quests
I just don't think the current way they do things is competitive with other live service games in 2024.
I think even the first month releases should see some improvements. I was already done with everything being the exact same in HW.
I just want something to grind in FFXIV :( Glamours, emotes, hairstyles, minions...anything.
i wouldn't mind having to grind for unlocking more freaking glamour dresser space. like... give us 3 more stages or something. but yeah, i guess ... something something.. spaghetti code... blablah
The one thing I dread possibly happening is them releasing recolored gear for the remainder of DT after 7.2's dungeon
@@chelsthegameruiner8669 recoloured, non-dyable gear... >.>
That relics, in some form, need to be X.0 content is something I've been saying since Stormblood.
and the thing there is, they DID do them earlier both in ARR and Heavensward
they delayed them in Stormblood because they wanted to connect the weapons to Eureka, and then Eureka wasn't ready to launch on time.
@@XT91There’s an insane amount of that in these comments lol.
PF is not dead and ques are not long either.
@@RyuSaarva If you keep saying it, maybe it will become true.
@@mosley3485 Care to tell then which que is long?
@@RyuSaarva Literally all of them. Roulettes as a tank or healer take a bit. God help you if you're trying to level a DPS job.
I can attest this, at least in my dc (elemental), pf is pretty dead outside of reset day
As a 2.0 OG, i concur 1000% 4 monthes is absolutely insane especially with -1 dungeon per cyle
Happy out here yapping. Love to see it.
Gone off the deep end? No way, this was a very coherent and sane take with some great analysis and suggestions on realistic changes.
But also says that a lot of things cant be implemented just with money that they would need... more... seniors...
I feel like im being gaslighted
you are. ^^ it's just some weak excuses.
you mentioned addition savage fights. i think it’d be dope if they added 1 extra savage fight per tier. a really cool fight that is optional but has some good rewards. idk, i feel like if they added 2 fights they may have to restructure how loot works but if they added an extra fight per tier with some kind of aesthetic or functional reward that’d be something for midcore and hardcore players to go after, after completing the base fights of the tier. instead of M1-12 it’d be M1-15 but the extra fights are aren’t necessary if you’re gearing for something like an upcoming ultimate
The only place "wow stacks value" is the cash shop. You gonna run M+69?
"WoW bad, ff gud xDDD"
@@typhman Nah M+ is just shit endgame content to keep clowns running in circles forever because they're afraid to let people get bis and finish a tier. Enjoy your $90 store mounts bro.
Poor Square Enix, they needed more for funds for ff7remake part 3 guys, help em
It's really starting to feel like squenix is just throwing stuff at the walls and hoping to just net one banger, but when failure after failure happens they just lean back on xiv and yoshi-p and go "well it's still printing money no need to change how it's going" but like if I was them I'd be allocating more to the thing that's been so successful for so long, then do the up and coming failures on the side...but idk maybe it's actually deeper than I think
i come back to play at the end of the expansion. i get my money's worth since everything is there and i dont need to wait for patches
You're a smarter and more patient person than the rest of us.
thank you for including pvpers! honestly even if they dont bring out any new pvp map i just desperately want them to add rival wings to the frontline roulette or give it some sort of daily reward so i can play it more, pleaaaaase
I literally only log in for a single roulette, check my retainers n' subs, then go back to do something else. Not even gpose hits the same when there's like... very little motivation in general.
Relic grind should be available soon as you finish the MSQ for x.0. It's insane that it's any later than that.
Bozja and Eureka gave me a reason to gear up, even as a non raider.
