    Hi Darren. Our instructions say you should apply the diluted product evenly to the outside of wet or dry fabric with a brush or sponge. As you treat the fabric, remove any surplus product with a damp cloth. This should help prevent streaks. Unless you have a large hair dryer or tumble dryer, it is fine to leave it to dry naturally in the sun. Either way will not effect the performance of the product. Just make sure the tent is fully dry before packing it away.

    From my experience waxing cotton or polycotton to make it water-resistant only really works for very tightly woven material that’s designed for waxing, and even then it wont be better than water-resistant. So it works for Barbour jackets or Fjallraven stuff but not for your standard cotton jeans, jumpers or t-shirts.

      You might be right, Eric. It will add repellency to everyday cotton clothing, but this product works best when used on cotton products made specifically for outdoor wear.

    I used Cotton Proof on a brand new pair of 100% cotton cargo trousers that I wanted to wear when out taking wildlife photo's I followed the instructions to the letter it didn't work so treated for a 2nd time still didn't work when I misted water onto the leg from a trigger spray bottle it immediately formed a damp patch with no sign of beading. what went wrong?

    I just bought an Iron Heart N1 deck jacket made of cotton whipcord aka jungle cloth - it’s alpaca lined so wash-in is not an option. What’s my best option here? Applying with a sponge or brush?

    I had a marathon waterproofing session last week and did 6 jackets with the old formula, cotton proof, Is the new cotton proof formula that's just been released longer lasting ?
    or just more effective at repelling water ?

    Hi Funkyprepper. You may have purchased our previous Cotton Proof formula which states on the label to use a 1:6 ratio. If so, please do follow the labels instructions for best results. This video provides information for our latest formula of Cotton Proof which is more concentrated and therefore advises a 1:9 ratio for application to tents.

    How would this work on a blend, something like Fjallraven G-1000, 65% Polyester and 35% Cotton? Seems like an easy way to waterproof and should beat rubbing wax on from a bar of wax and then ironing it in. Thanks.

      Apologies for the delayed reply. We'd actually recommend that you wash with Tech Wash, and then use our spray-on Wax Cotton proof or TX Direct. Lay out or hang the clean, still-wet clothing and spray generously, using a damp cloth afterward to work the liquid into the material. Let it air dry and then head out on your adventure!

    so how long does it last? how many times can you wash a product before you need to use the nikwax again ?

    • @NikwaxGlobal
      @NikwaxGlobal  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +giovanniRMS It really depends on how much and what kind of use the item is experiencing. Really, the best way to is to observe what happens when water hits it. If it stops beading, and instead starts blotting into the fabric, then it's time for another wash. This can always be tested with a simple spray bottle.

    I have a large double hammock; how many mls of Cottonproof do I add to the washing machine drawer please?

    • @NikwaxGlobal
      @NikwaxGlobal  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! For something the size of your hammock, we would recommend that you first clean it with our Tech Wash or a gentle soap (150ml should do it), and then, while it's still wet, hang it up and directly apply diluted Cotton Proof to both sides with a cloth, taking care to wipe up the excess after a few minutes. Hope this helps!

    hi, I want to able to waterproof my cotton hoodie which one of your products should I get on Amazon, and can I use it at the local Laundry mat

    • @NikwaxGlobal
      @NikwaxGlobal  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Manuel. The amount of water repellency it adds depends a bit on the type and percentage of cotton in the hoodie - if it has nylon mixed in, it should work a bit better than if it's 100% soft cotton. You should be fine to use it at the laundromat - just be sure to rinse out the detergent drawer, since detergent residue will keep the jacket from proofing well.

    How do you wash clothes after they have been treated

    • @NikwaxGlobal
      @NikwaxGlobal  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends a bit on what kind of clothes you've treated. If they're cotton, we'd recommend that you use either our Tech Wash or a mild soap (rather than detergent), followed by a round of Cotton Proof.

    And why would you use cotton in the backcoutry?

    Does this product change the texture, feel, and look of the fabric?

    • @NikwaxGlobal
      @NikwaxGlobal  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question, Jonnda. Since there's such a wide range of cottons, it's a bit difficult to give a straightforward answer. In our experience, following the instructions on the bottle will not change the texture, feel or look of the fabric. If you give the cotton a heavier treatment for increased water-repellency, e.g. spraying Cotton Proof directly onto the exterior, dabbing the excess off and then just hanging it up to dry rather than rinsing it, you may notice a slight change to the feel of the garment. This is not permanent, and will either wear off in time or immediately disappear when the garment is washed in Tech Wash. One thing to note: be sure to only apply Cotton Proof to a garment that has been washed in either Tech Wash or a mild soap. Washing it in normal detergent will leave a slight residue that will attract water and make it more difficult for the Cotton Proof to do its work. Hope this helps!

    I just pulled my cotton canvas Carhartt out of the dryer, water repellency went from a 0 to about .5 out of 10 :( any reason why my results are so bad. I dried on lowest setting, should I try again but air dry?

      no well I washed it in just water to get any debris off, after more reading it looks like I may be required to wash it even if its new is that the case.
