I owned a beautiful silver '87 928s4 and like a fool, eventually sold it. It was a reliable high performance car that had fantastic great handling. If you can find one, hang on to it!

The 928 never got the respect it deserved. Wonderful car. I own a 93 GTS 5 speed, close to 12 years. Yes, it's nice to open the garage door and stare at it.

I can hardly remember what ‘Risky Business’ was about. All I really remember was the some ‘knockers’ and the movie’s star... the Porsche 928. My favourite car on ‘Moonlighting’ was the 928 (and that BMW E24(635i)). The best part of ‘Hart to Hart’ ... the 928. Everything about the 928 is perfect. Nothing on the road looked or has ever looked like this iconic legend. A work of Art?... absolutely! Despite owning a classic Carrera, this was always favourite Porsche of all time, by far. Thanks for the video.

I own a 1984 928s black on black rare 5 speed with BBS wheels . The leather interior shows almost no wear.Striking car with racing stripes . The car has been supercharged by 928 Motorsports ( Carl Faussett) of Wisconsin and has a straight pipe exhaust. Has lots of torque and easy to drive once you get used to the "dogleg" shift pattern. Turns heads like crazy when the headlights are in the up position.

@Motormouth - I've owned my '91 S4 for 16 years. It is a magnificent beast, in its element equally with the right foot buried as it is at cruising speed. Thanks to your cameraman for shooting this with sympathetic lens & lighting choices, it makes a world of difference and backs up the 'timeless design after 45 years' in your title. Too many cameramen shoot with no understanding, and distort the beautiful lines of the 928, and other vehicles. ( I was a Cameraman for 40+ years.) I have owned 4 Porsches - an '84 Carrera 3.2, a '90 944 S2, the S4, and recently purchased a '99 996 C4. Sadly, I will have to let the S4 go. It will break my heart but I can't afford to run that and the 996 and it was always my intention to have another 911.
This great little film is stirring a lot of emotion in me, thanks for sharing your passion for this exceptional car.

Glad you chose this car. For us Porsche fans, it is a must. I did not know most were automatic. I would have assumed a 50 / 50 split. You are 100 % correct, this design would work today. Maybe Porsche will come up with a car inspired from this design one day... Thank you for the video. I love the segment, I love the eighties because I lived them.

I owned one from 2008 till 2014 with a 5 speed dogleg in vey good condition and sold it for a Boxster and some 911s (996, 997 S...) but I still love the 928. A great looking, heavily over-engineered car.

Now running a 1996 993 Carrera and a 2000 456 GTM Ferrari and loving both even though they are completely different drivers...Keep up the good work and stay safe. I've always sustained that a genuine car enthusiast, got to be a watch enthusiast too, as well as appreciative of architecture, design and arts. That is why this review is Spot On.
Definitely my favorite Porsche design of all time. Considering it a Piece of Art, and the analogy with the Gerald Genta designs, as well as the Frank Gehry architectural scheme, shows an authentic appreciation of esthetics and beauty.
    Congratulations.
Give my regards to Andrea and keep on the fine work.

I feel like people who keep saying these cars are maintenance heavy, don’t actually own one, and heard somebody else say that, so it must be so. There is nothing about this car that is more maintenance intensive than any other car it’s age. I would argue it’s even less maintenance intensive than other cars their age, due to the high quality it was when it was designed and built. I’ve had and ‘81 for over three years and I have done anything but change the oil and replace a gasket on the fuel filter and replace a power steering line. When you do have to replace something, it’s typical Porsche part prices but it doesn’t break down more than other cars.

The 928 is a beautiful timeless cruiser, so I fully agree with you :)) Although Porsche is a 'smart' company, it was dumb to think the 928 could replace the very different 911. If the 928 came an additional model from the beginning or as a flagship, the 928 would be received better by their clientel.

I remember when I was young. I was in love with this car and still is. I would ride the bus to the mall that would pass by the Porsche dealership. Couldn't take my eyes off of the 928 when passing by. This car was in the movies Looker, Scarface, Weird Science and Risky Business. Porsche had a nice lineup back then, the 928, 911, 944, 924. Miss those days......😥. I go on cargurus.com to see what they are going for. It seems they are requesting top dollar. Timeless design to me. Hope Porsche brings it back out again close to the old design with modern tech.

Porsche needs to make a 2-door Panamera as a homage to the 928...and call it a 928.
    I’m still surprised that Porsche never turbo-ed the 928...imagine a twin turbo 5.0 928.

Those wheels... the best reason never to move to California I've ever seen! :-D There are better looking Wal-Mart spinner hubcaps. Maybe get some paper plates to cover them up. They remind me of teardrop wheels from a MKI MR2, and some Fox Mustangs had a similarly uninspired base model wheel. Other than that, terrific looking 928. I like the early style tail lights.

  • @azaz911c

Stylistically, the Porsche 928 is one of my top 5 favourite cars. From the front, it is like a shark. From the side, it is like an aircraft. From the rear, it is like a bullet. And despite all this wildness, it still exudes the rational functionality, weightiness, and tactile quality that characterizes German cars of the 1970s and 1980s. Interestingly, the Porsche 928 was designed by Wolfgang Möbius, and Tony Lapine. Lapine collaborated with Arkus-Duntov and Shinoda at GM in the 1950s and 1960s, on projects including the 1963 Sting Ray. Can you see some Sting Ray in the 928?

Personally I don’t like the early 928 and 928S as much as the updated 928 S4, 928 GT and 928 GTS. The changes to the front and rear bumpers, taillights and wing made a huge difference in the looks of the 928 as well as the improvements in the drivetrain over the earlier cars.

Same year as our Blue 928S4, similar mileage, and this one is almost the same condition as ours. Unfortunately owners have to love the car for what it is and to drive them and not for what they might think it's worth. You can easily go overboard on fixing them and never get your money out of it. It has to be a passion of love for these cars, not for money and resale. Not yet on these cars anyways.

Go buy a pre 87 if you want that and search for some early phone dials. This version would look weird without the wing, and trust me, I am not a fan of wings. I mock people in WRXs and GT3s.

I love the 928 - but it will rape your wallet and end your marriage.

Worst fastest production car at one point. Too bad this one's auto.

I've owned one in a manual. No thanks. It's a dog leg, 1st gear is where 2nd normally is and it's a PITA to get used to. If I were to buy another one, it would be an automatic.

@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Oh yeah forgot it's dogleg but I guess getting used to it is not the hardest part but if you own another nornal manual switching between the two could be annoying.

Am I the only one who thinks this was as ugly in 1988 as it is now?

Yes you probably are. BTW, these cars don't photograph well. They are much smaller and lower in person than they look in pictures or video.

That's a pretty clean looking example. I'm not a fan of black cars though, and Porsche had some beautiful metallics out during that era, which is what I'd buy. The wheels look polished, not chromed, but I could be wrong. Regardless, they need to go.
I owned an '85 928S and enjoyed it for just over a year, but it was a manual with the dog leg transmission and I didn't care for it, so I got rid of the car. I probably should have kept it though, as it was about as mint as this example and in a much nicer color, Garnet Red with burgundy sport seats. I would definitely buy another one if I won the lottery and could afford to keep and store a few collectibles. Thanks for the review.

Wow, that would have been a beautiful colour combination
