How can It possibly be any groovier than that?! Fun fact: the intro is actually an excerpt from a song called Dayride from Chick Corea and Return to Forever! Happy feelings with Rufus & Chaka Khan
Exactly. I hope they gave this credit at the time. I was a big fan of Return To Forever in the 70s and their powerful jazz rock of great compositions. RIP Chick Corea.
A BIG BIG SHOUT TO ALL MY PEOPLE WHO WAS ALIVE AND WELL ON THIS NIGHT OF DECEMBER 12,1975.I WAS 12 YEARS OLD THEN AND I REMEMBER THIS SHOW WELL ON THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL.
This is a BAND. Not a singer with backing musicians. Chaka Khan's the star, but all of them matter. They can all play, more than one of them can sing, they're up there letting you know that, and no one in the audience seems to have a problem with Chaka not getting every second of stage time.
Fabulous! Knocked out back in 1975 when I saw them open for Elton John, the Beach Boys, the Eagles and Joe Walsh at Wembley Stadium on 21 June...best band of the day, no question...
See how happy the audience was. No fear of violence like in today events. No cell phones and no social media. Was a great time to be alive and for good music. Was watching this the 1st time at about 9 years old. Been a fan since then til the end. Love u Chaka.
@@johnsoos6907I absolutely love Steve Priests performance there, he’s so campy and sexy, ooof he’s my favorite Sweet band member. Love his bass playing-voice too. My young granddaughter likes him wearing the fairy 🧚♀️ outfit, in another vid.
Jazzrock : also found it's birth ground in those fabulous 70's , the so called hippie years . Metal , reggea , ska, electric funk , rap and house all from that one glorious decade. From Lou Reed and Bowie to Alice Cooper . From James Brown to Luther vandross and from Zappa to Zeppelin and Sabbath .All had their glory days in the 70's . And were silenced by electronics in those horrible 80's .
Watching this during my morning workout, it's perfect for that, with "Tell me something good" being the only thind the Oldies channel will play, its easy to forget how funky Rufus was! As far as the headdress, I grew up in Tulsa and we like when someone, who wasn't getting shit off a horse, wore a headdress, made us feel appreciated.

The funkiest band in that era before Parliament Funkadelic came on the scene. They wanted Chaka join and her guitarist Warden. They both refused. But years later, she disbanded from Rufus and went solo. But did performed a song or two with PF along with her sister, Taka Boom. I was there. ❤❤❤ ¡ Viva Funkadelic sounds ! ❤❤❤
What a funky bass groove from this timeless classic. Rufus, laying down a magical soulful performance on the M.S. Great music/memories/times during the '70s.
Chaka Khan sounded great, but where oh where, is that great snare drum? Gone into the great unknown, oh well. I had a ball playing along on drums to this. I will add this to my practice list.
In 2012, Dutch singer Joan Franka (with a Dutch-Turkish father) was fiercely criticised for wearing this "Hollywood version" of a headdress of some Native American nations during the Eurovision Song Contest.
Who cares about the head dress. If she was wearing a Sari would that have been ok. Or a Viking helmet? It’s just a costume for the show. It’s not for anything else.
Chaka should be cancelled for appropriating indigenous American culture. the nerve! Even though this was about 40 years ago it does not matter. she should be ashamed and offer reparations to all Indigenous Americans immediately.

As a 12 yr. old, I remember watching this performance. Ms. Chaka is fantastic!
When they're looking and sounding like this, no one could look down at a cell phone anyway....
Haven’t heard this song in forever, love it and Chaka Kahn/Rufus.

Once you get started, you gotta get down! 💃🤩 That’s another great song by them! I don't think I've heard it in a long time! 😊💜
Rufus made Chaka Khan a star.
And her wearing the headdress here was fine
Maybe she was paying tribute to Steve Priest's Top Of The Pops performance?
Um, would it be “fine” if she were white? If not then it’s not OK here either. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. “Bad” works as well.
Chaka Khan is beautiful...that headdress, however, could not be worn by her in 2024.
