We don't have a single idea how lucky we are to have Mr. Nile Rodgers alive!!! A living legend. This edition of tiny desk is on my top favorite. God is good to me for able to listen and watch this. I cried all thru the video for joy 🙏🙌🙌🙌🙌
I met Nile once on a redeye from Burbank to JFK. I was a flight attendant at the time, paying the bills while beginning my career as a jazz guitarist. I was practicing on the jump seat with a nylon string guitar while most of the plane slept. Nile came by to use the bathroom and heard me practicing a complicated John Coltrane song. We talked for a little bit, and then he picked up my guitar and played some of the baddest jazz guitar on the same tune. I was not expecting that from the guitar player from CHIC!
That's an awesome story TY for sharing. Nile Rodgers is so much more than the guitarist from Chic though! 1 of the best music producers on the planet!!! What a legend!!!

What just happened! I was doing my every day office job, and suddenly I started to dance and wooing! This was absolutely funk-tastic! One of the best Tiny Desk ever! Thank you NPR, and thank you Nile Rodgers & CHIC! I need this every single day from now on!
Those high notes by Russell Graham made me pause the video and reflect on my life for a moment. That was one of the most insane and pleasant surprises I've ever had the pleasure to experience. What a voice... Kimberly and Audrey already had me very emotional, then that man comes and blows me out of the water.
This band is so tight that they can get totally loose. They look as if they are just having a party and getting down, but the level of musicianship and stagecraft here is off the charts. Style and class.
@@karldewet5393 ummmmmmmm......this lineup is relatively new. 45 years? Only Nile R remains from the 70s origins of Chic But this current is certainly a stellar group of musicians and singers
Nile Rodgers has an amazing catalog. When a song comes on the radio, you know immediately if he had a hand in writing or producing it. Thanks, NPR for another great concert.
So glad that legends like Nile Rodgers are getting their flowers while they’re still with us. He was THAT guy in the 70’s and 80’s and produced and wrote a lot of hits for major r&b and pop acts. Bravo tiny desk!!!
This is seriously one of the most high intensity Tiny Desks ever. Classic sounds with some serious bass licks running underneath. Regardless of what we rockers thought of the disco era, NIle has written and composed some of the greatest dance and party songs of all time. Congrats to all and enjoy 'cause the groove is in the house.
Nile Rodgers was born in NYC (Lower Eastside) September 19, 1952. Rodgers is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee. He has received six Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement/Special Merit Award. Founder Chic! Vicious songwriter. (Harlem is listening 👂🏾 🎧)
My dad was a roadie back in the 70s-80s in Oakland, CA. One night, EWF had a show in San Francisco the same night as Chic in Oakland. I believe Chic was still rather new on the scene, EWF had a large pull. My dad said they set up everything at the Oakland Coliseum (mind you, this is back in the day where you went to the box office to buy tickets so artists didn't really know how to gauge if a show was sold out) and only about 10 people showed up! They invited the staff to sit in the audience to watch and my dad said it was top three one of the best shows he's ever seen in his LIFE! I met Jerry Barnes backstage (the bass player in this video) and told him this story. His eyes were big and he belted laughing because apparently Nile tells this story to EVERYONE and no one ever believes him! Wish I got to tell Nile this story myself! Shoutout to the Maestro himself!!!
Mr. Rodgers is one of the best guitarists ever. It's a shame he doesn't get as much attention as Hendrix, Van Halen, etc. Truly a gem in the music industry and beyond.
Nile Rodgers is what we call a ''musician's musician''. Pratically unknown by the general public, but recognized by musicians as one of the greatest ever.
I woke up at 3:AM and read my notification that Tiny Desk posted Nile Rodgers-a true master of music & songwriting. My day is made after listening to his great musicianship, songs & performance. 🎤🥁🎸🎹🎺🎶🎵. Bravo Tiny Desk! You’ve presented another great show! 👍🏾✌🏾
You and me both!!! I had to turn my fan off and saw this. I hope that you have a great Thursday today because I am. This is real music and vocals!!!May you have many more. Blessings to you!!! 🎵🎼🎶🎙🗣🗣🗣💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Bernard Edwards was one of my favorite bass players. Bernard and Nile Rodgers are one of the best writers and producers of all time!!! I love these brothers!!!
This is up there with the best Tiny Desk concerts. Not only is Nile Rodgers special, but each member in his band are like leaders, down to the keyboardists, saxophone and then the drummer sings lead really? The bassist is off the charts. Great vocals across the board. They don't even need instruments.
CLASSIC! Nile Rodgers and CHIC really defined a generation of music. The number of "modern day" artists who have sampled their work speaks volumes. Thank you NPR for hosting them! Much love from Cape Town, South Africa
I am 61 and CHIC was and is the Jam growing doing the 70s on up. Not only that, the various projects this team has been a part of over the years, especially with DuranDuran that just took everything to a whole another level. Thank you for sharing ❤
We just saw Nile and his crew open up for Duran Duran in Toronto and maaan 😩 He had that entire arena in a Kung fu death grip for the entire 45 minutes! It was one of the most fun experiences we’ve had at a show. Non stop hit after hit after hit…
Bernard Edwards bass lines and style of bass playing was so smooth. I miss that original sound. Don't get me wrong, the new Chic band style sounds great too!
@@robertjones447 I agree! You don't ever hear much talk about Michael Wiley (RIP). I went to Disney World Orlando to see the Dazz Band back in the 80's and was right up front of Michael Wiley. I was hoping he was going to use his MM Sabre or Stingray Bass, but he played a G&L L 2000 Bass with the gold strings, the sound was unbelievable!
Bernard will forever be my favorite bass player and let’s not forget TONY THOMPSON! He was hands down the baddest drummer that ever lived. He changed the sound of music, he brought sounds that were powerful and I haven’t heard anyone like him since. He played with the band Power Station..go figure..
I sure hate that we lost Benard Edwards (RIP). He is still one of my favorite BASS players. Chic needs a place in the rock and roll hall of fame. Lets vote to get them there.
Say....Wooh Wooh! My daughter is taking me to see Nile'n'Chic at The Piece Hall tomorrow for a farther's day treat. After watchin' this...... so looking forward to the "Good Times".
Well, we sure did have "Good Times". Wasn't like any concert I have been to. At the Piece Hall it felt like being at Nile's Party with 6,000 other guests who also could not stop the Dance Dance Dance.
Chic, Glastonbury 2017, Sunday. The day was grey and overcast when Chic took to the stage, as they started the sun came out. 150,000 people dancing to the best, most joyous songs ever written. Happiness peaked for me in that 1hr30. This man and these musicians are true purveyors of happiness. Genius.
I'm crying from excitement! This is a legend for me, what amazing musicians and singers. Thank you very much, just for a moment I forgot my country is going through a hard and sad war, love from Israel. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
I’m in my 30’s and this is just what I needed this Thursday. So many timeless classics, went straight to my daily playlists ❤❤❤ The band and background singers also deserve their flowers 🔥🔥❤️❤️💐💐
That's why he's a legend. He had the sense to keep this band together for years now and they're not only great musicians but good friends because you can hear it.
I think it’s important to note how Nile calls out the CHIC organization, not the CHIC band! Because all of these wonderful folks are on the same wavelength as he is, and they bring their own funkalicousness to the mix, making these classic tracks take on a new flavor of groove; its the same, but different. In Mexican Spanish terms, they bring their own sazón to the recipe, and bring out the best that they can. And they absolutely deliver!

Those high notes by Russell Graham made me pause the video and reflect on my life for a moment. That was one of the most insane and pleasant surprises I've ever had the pleasure to experience. What a voice... Kimberly and Audrey already had me very emotional, then that man comes and blows me out of the water.
Yeah it seemed other worldly. Like he was an instrument, not just singing but the actual medium for something from another world.
way!!!
X2
White boy got game!!! 😍
This band is so tight that they can get totally loose. They look as if they are just having a party and getting down, but the level of musicianship and stagecraft here is off the charts. Style and class.
Do anything with the same people for more than 45 years and it becomes this easy. How amazing!!!
Yeah… they pretty much slayed it.
💯 Amazing performance. 🔥 Left me Speechless. 🔥
@@karldewet5393 ummmmmmmm......this lineup is relatively new. 45 years? Only Nile R remains from the 70s origins of Chic
But this current is certainly a stellar group of musicians and singers
Give the bass player a raise ASAP!
What a fantastic tiny desk performance ❤❤❤
Jerry Barnes
omg - his sister Katreece sang on something I wrote ♥@@RootsMusic-ek5nc

I'm so in love with Kimberly Davis right now ❤
i’ve been a little sad recently and this just reminded me how beautiful life really is
Sending healing streams of grace to you ❤
Sending Love your way Sister 😘
100 percent life is fragile but you gotta get up and smell the beautiful roses!!
Thats the Power of this music.
Me too. This brought me true and profound joy and pure happiness! Dancing around the house. Love and light to you!
This man might be the most influential producer ever.
Agree. And nobody else crossed genres like him.

How about Rod Temperton, who worked with Quincy on most of his HUGE stuff...@@Troock14

Nile Rodgers has an amazing catalog. When a song comes on the radio, you know immediately if he had a hand in writing or producing it. Thanks, NPR for another great concert.
I’ve seen this 100+ times already and it still makes me so happy. Never remove this from TH-cam!!
The best vibes
same here! I can't start the work day without this Tiny!!
So glad that legends like Nile Rodgers are getting their flowers while they’re still with us. He was THAT guy in the 70’s and 80’s and produced and wrote a lot of hits for major r&b and pop acts. Bravo tiny desk!!!
Here's the thing...he's STILL doing it with current acts.
Everyone was fire!! The singers were phenomenal! Thank you Kimberly and Audrey!
Audrey is fine
@@gobirds4362 Both are ..lol
@@buttyscott1 Both fantastic singers, both gorgeous, class and beauty.
@@gobirds4362She is beautiful.
Dear God what is this energy??? I hope Nile had the good breakfast he deserved afterward. All these musicians deserve praise too, what a band!!
Thanks Tiny Desk for this. You brought back the disco era ❤ Nile Rodgers is a genius and Chic were absolutely fantastic!

no, actually. just niles. @@steveolie985
Nile Rogers is 71 years old and rocks this joyfully. It's fantastic!
Legend.
One of the best to EVER do it! Thanks for this amazing concert! Still a tight band!
Yes! Harlem is here listening with so much Joy, Love & Happiness ❤💃🕺🎶
The best part to me is that the whole band is having FUN while playing!!!
True.
the are is nice to look at it
My dad was a roadie back in the 70s-80s in Oakland, CA.
Lol only ten people??? Man do you know how big the coliseum is?
Great, nothing like original member eternal peace Bernard Tony ....
Awesome story! There were really only _10_ people? At the Coliseum?! 🤯
Man, your Pops must've had _some_ stories to tell!!!
Nile is music Royalty.
Mr. Rodgers is one of the best guitarists ever. It's a shame he doesn't get as much attention as Hendrix, Van Halen, etc. Truly a gem in the music industry and beyond.
He makes me think of my dad playing guitar. I miss his physical presence but know he's always around. Love you Dad!!
FACTS!!
Nile Rodgers is what we call a ''musician's musician''. Pratically unknown by the general public, but recognized by musicians as one of the greatest ever.
absolute definition of less is more. such a depth of knowledge too dude knows how to write
Aw stop he gets enough quit comparing
WOW! There have been so many awesome NPR tiny desk shows, but this! What a Joy! I laughed. I cried. I looked up tickets.
Saw them live last weekend in Melbourne Australia. Amazing. Everything you would expect.
Definitely this performance made me consider getting tickets for the first time!
I’ve seen them 3 times, never disappoints. So much fun!
There's very little in this world as awesome as listening to a tight funk band play live.
The tightest funk band. This is an absolute clinic of funk.
Agreed. This is just phenomenal, except Roger's attempt to rap.
I've watched this twice with my parents. So dope seeing them start dancing and grooving to the hits. Awesome time. Thx Nile
Nile Rogers is 71 and is still as amazing and exhilirating to watch as ever. 😍
Definitely the best year for tinydesk. Nile is a funky wizard who has helped and inspired so many.
Same. My neighbor's porch lights came on just now, but I can't help myself!! Amazing!!!
Bernard Edwards was one of my favorite bass players. Bernard and Nile Rodgers are one of the best writers and producers of all time!!! I love these brothers!!!
That rendition of Get Lucky (especially with the crowd singing) needs to be recorded as an official version
By far one of the top 5 concerts! NPR is on a roll with the recent artists.
Yes, this is in my top five also. This was awesome!
This is up there with the best Tiny Desk concerts. Not only is Nile Rodgers special, but each member in his band are like leaders, down to the keyboardists, saxophone and then the drummer sings lead really? The bassist is off the charts. Great vocals across the board. They don't even need instruments.
that keyboard players voice made my jaw drop
@@harbarycarbary same here as if there wasn't already tons of talent
This is actually the best version of “Get Lucky!”
Absolutely my favorite. Please consider releasing it Nile Rogers and Chic.
Tiny Desk you are a priceless gem to music lovers !!!!!! Thank You NPR 🙏🏾
CLASSIC! Nile Rodgers and CHIC really defined a generation of music. The number of "modern day" artists who have sampled their work speaks volumes. Thank you NPR for hosting them!
Much love from Cape Town, South Africa
Watching this in Harare Zimbabwe. I am dancing and my kids (7 and 11) are loving it.
On of the best Tiny desk episodes. We aren't worthy thank you Niles Rogers
I am 61 and CHIC was and is the Jam growing doing the 70s on up. Not only that, the various projects this team has been a part of over the years, especially with DuranDuran that just took everything to a whole another level. Thank you for sharing ❤
Yeah from same period, they wore Good Times out on the radio here in NYC/NJ!
I can't, I just can't put any words together even remotely close to how fantastic this arrangement is, so just... Wow! Love it. Thank you Tiny Desk 🎉
100%
We just saw Nile and his crew open up for Duran Duran in Toronto and maaan 😩 He had that entire arena in a Kung fu death grip for the entire 45 minutes! It was one of the most fun experiences we’ve had at a show. Non stop hit after hit after hit…
Kung fu death grip lol😂😂😂
Tiny Desk has been the best thing ever. I make this a regular feature now that my family watches. The best free concert platform. Thanks guys 🙌🏽👍🏼
I never have seen a band with this feeling for Funk music. That is amazing and fantastic.❤️😎👍Great.

Every time they do play good time is like a tribute to Bernard Edwards … it was the good time indeed ! RIP dear Bernard … and thank you 🙏🏾 !
Bernard Edwards bass lines and style of bass playing was so smooth. I miss that original sound. Don't get me wrong, the new Chic band style sounds great too!
He was in the same rarefied air for putting down the groove as Michael Wiley and Bootsy Collins.
@@VCD512I agree, Tony & Bernard were locked in tight! Nothing ahead or behind the beat.
I sure hate that we lost Benard Edwards (RIP). He is still one of my favorite BASS players. Chic needs a place in the rock and roll hall of fame. Lets vote to get them there.
Yes! He was amazing!..legend
Not to mention Tony Thompson. RIP Tony.
Yes. Those two…RIP
Genius.
❤😂🫠🤣🫶
I'm crying from excitement! This is a legend for me, what amazing musicians and singers. Thank you very much, just for a moment I forgot my country is going through a hard and sad war, love from Israel. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
That man right there is one of THE most influential producers to ever live. Nile Rodgers. Legend!
These songs were part of the soundtrack of my late-70s/early 80s life and they are still amazing! Will always love Nile Rodgers & Chic!
These guys consistently sound way better live than the studio recordings
Those recordings are so slick and well produced but live is…wow. Much more warm and funky.
Every talented artist does
@@Allen2saint totally agree. Niles isn't a national treasure. He's a global treasure
@@kayal5905 true true. Good point
Yes Indeed🎉
I’m in my 30’s and this is just what I needed this Thursday. So many timeless classics, went straight to my daily playlists ❤❤❤ The band and background singers also deserve their flowers 🔥🔥❤️❤️💐💐
That's why he's a legend. He had the sense to keep this band together for years now and they're not only great musicians but good friends because you can hear it.
He's the only original member.
