The man was so legitimately happy to be there at that Oyster bar. That's the reason we all loved him so much. Anyone can be a great writer and personality, but Tony lived it. He was authentic. I miss him.
I miss him, too. I have worked in f&b for most of my adult life, and I am certain Anthony Bourdain was the best representation of our industry. He still inspires me to this day.
I always felt/knew that if Bourdain suddenly popped in at the restaurant I was expo'ing at, he wouldn't have looked down on any of us. I always appreciated that attitude from him.
he is working man line cook thats why he never went to france to get his stripes from bocouse or marko he has more in common with the el salvadoran dishwasher and mexican liine cooks than those fancy 3star guys
I grew up one town over from his hometown, but found myself in San Francisco for my first job out of school. I went to Swan Oyster Depot my first and last day in that city. On my last day I thanked the guy behind the counter for the great food and mentioned I only discovered the place thanks to Tony Bourdain. The guy’s face immediately lit up to pure joy at the bare mention of his name and we just shot the shit for a few minutes before I headed on my way. It’s a sacred place if you ask me
Even years later whenever asked which celebrity death hit the hardest for me it’s always this man. Worked the industry for over 15 years and everything he said was done. He was a staple and I loved watching him. Still missed 5 years later and counting. Rest in peace dude.
I hear that , Mark. I met him on the street in SF several years back. Walked and talked like old friends for 10 blocks I will never forget. Such a nice guy
@Lazar MMA alcohol is one of the most potent depression causing agents in the world, next to benzodiazepines, hence alcohol being able to induce suicide. We are just biological machines after all. I take your point though, yes there is a viscous cycle here.

Idk why I did it to myself but I ended up watching this video. MAAAAAAAN I always end up tearing up whenever i see Anthony Bourdain. His love for food is so awe inspiring and pure. I miss you man.
My world got a little darker this morning upon the news of his death. Thank you Mr. Bourdain for your entertaining wit, your daring to go against the grain & for inspiring weekend chefs like myself to dare to be just a bit different & to try new and exciting foods. R.I.P.

fla gatortown he didn't kill himself in his last interview they brought up suicide he said his daughter gave him a reason to live .....they killed him he was talking too much about the elites that they are pedofiles so they silenced him
I haven’t watched any Anthony Bourdain in a long while since his passing. Man how I much I miss his voice, the storytelling. I still remember when I found out, it was a weekend of camping and we were heading back home, I was driving and asked my friends to check if anything happened while we were gone after having no service for 4 days.
I've only just started to watch his stuff again. It was too sad to even think of watching him again. I find I have to be in a good mood before watching his shows, or its just sad.
I’ve heard nothing but great things about this man. Kind, honest, generous, considerate, humorous…even off camera, from what I’ve heard. The world has lost one it’s very finest citizens.
Read Kitchen Confidential his first book, I’ve been a fan for 20 years and he probably got me into cooking. But it’s hard to get through more than 5 pages without him talking about offing himself or how pointless life is. It’s hard to get through
Bourdain was a man who can talk on a frequency that everyone could be on and understand. And during the shows he hosted, gave good, honest opinions on the places he’s been too. And can makes us all laugh.
Full of nostalgia. I used to watch his shows more than 10 years ago. I still lived in my small hometown in a 3rd world country. Now I made it to America and been travelling around cherishing the places he surely has been through. Thank you for this man
His love to food was so deeply honest and elegant. I guess he would have loved Bilbao and his Pintxos. He loved the simple and fresh food with long tradition. The basic stuff and the special counter.I share his taste. No modern chairs or special lights to mislead. DEP Tony Saludos
Tony is one of those people that I was hurt the most to see go as a celebrity. He shows so much humility and love in his shows and it is sad how he went.
It amazes me that out of all the places he has been to and all the different foods he has tried, he still has his favorite spots that he likes to go back to. That when you really know a place is good!
His San Francisco shows were among my favorites, both on No Reservations and Parts Unknown. Rest well, Tony, you gave me a craving for food, culture and curiosity!
Such a wonderful person. I wonder if he knew how much he inspired and made life interesting to not thousands but I would dare say millions of people. Maybe he wasn't told...I just wish he were still here. It sucks that he's gone. RIP Mr. Anthony Bourdain.
An entire plate of Dungeness crab merus sections. Arguably the greatest sing bite of food in the world. That is the best part of a crab and Dungeness is the best crab there is. DAMN.
Back then, a decade ago ... you could get a good meal, like this, with a beer for $15. Today, easily $40+. I remember the first time I saw a $20 cheeseburger on a menu in a restaurant. It was NYC circa 2016. Now in 2023 ... I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a cheeseburger for under $18 in the suburbs at a sit down restaurant. These were the days ...

I miss him. Sometimes I'd have his show on when I was doing things around the house just to listen to him. I genuinely liked listening to him and enjoyed his straight up honesty.
I still do this!!! I have his shows on as background around the house or when I cook. His charisma and attitude was infectious and makes my bad days better!
Swan's Oyster Depo is truly a native San Franciscan's hideaway for the freshest seafood. Have to arrive early around 8am to get a counter seat, but that plate of Dungeness crab legs with a side of Louie sauce with some SF style sourdough french bread is to die for!!!!!!! 👍🦀🍺🥖
@@eraserfred406 Yeah the place opens at 8am. It's the best time to guarantee a seat at the counter otherwise it's a long wait to get in. And dungeness crab with good San Francisco sourdough french bread is delicious ANYTIME!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍🦀🥖
It still breaks my heart every single day that that man is not with us anymore. He had such a love and zest for life that it was contagious. My love of food and travel. I can absolutely relay and he's right it has changed so much in the last 15-20 years that it's heartbreaking and I don't think that Anthony would recognize it. Now. But Swan Oyster Bar and Tonga room are definitely two of the places that are still intact still part of what I know as San Francisco and love about San Francisco. So thank you so much Anthony for being a part of our world here in the city and for being who you were because you were one of the best

no man living like this with so much beauty in his life decides to check out. i don't buy it
As a lifelong Food and Bev worker, I always felt Bourdain represented us better than anyone else.
As a line cook of 30+ years, I second this.

I’ve watched this piece countless times.
Bourdain had a way of taking swipes at people (in this case ‘nerds’) without said blow being a fatal one.
Watching this 6 years after it was posted and 5 years after his death. Still can't get over what a loss his passing was for this world
“its the triumph of the nerds” Anthony u are truly something else
