Yeah same here. I’ve been really nostalgic lately and looking back a lot at how things “used to be.” I hope one day I can look forward to the future again
Same here. We have to endure 4 more years of mayhem and suckupery. No more dump and his minions (at least in a Cabinet). I'm sure he'll promise to primary enemies. But no more dump all day every day will be welcome.
Given the context, those last few lines are thoughts that will fester. At least in my mind. He was searching for a deeper hope. That’s enough internet for one day.
I always remember the beginning of this segment with the rain, the people, the motorcade, and the music. Anthony Bourdain has the best music and storytelling.
Obama now is a legend in Vietnam. So is Anthony Bourdain. Even though Tony is no longer with us, the Vietnamese people will always remember him with love and respect.
Same here. I was leading a few people around the neighborhood, trying desperately to make sense of my map, and figure out where this place was. An old Vietnamese woman came walking out of a hair salon and started watching us. After a few seconds, she yelled to me “Obama bun cha??” I said, yes, and she walked us a block away and pointed to the place 🤣
Bourdain asking if things will be OK for his daughter’s life in 10 years is all kinds of heartbreaking for a variety of reasons. Obama’s response is so comforting and hopeful that it makes the moment even more tragic now knowing what’s coming. Wish they would have included the opening sequence of Obama arriving at the restaurant, cause it was badass in that very specific way that only Bourdain & his original crew could have conjured. Also, in the years that have passed I still often think about the interview with the woman that closes this episode. It might be the most moving images and words that the show ever put together.
One of my favorite episodes. Just watching 2 guys enjoying a good dinner 2 beers 1 bowls of noodles and good conversation. What more do you want???? RIP Anthony Bourdain 😢😪💔🙏
I still miss everything Bourdain deeply. There will be no one as charismatic, shrewd, open-minded, progressive, discriminate and all-seeing, proud yet humble. witty and wise as him. It pains me to hear his voice to this day. No one else could close to him.
I would love to hear more about Obama's years in Indonesia. I'm also a mixed American kid who spent some time overseas and it would be so cool to hear about someone who shared that experience.
Two Legends one of them being the most powerful man in the world. Sitting in a nonairconditioned restaurant in Hanoi, enjoying a beer and Bun Cha. Love it.
Tony taught us how to savor life, traveling, and sharing meals with old friends, and with new friends. He left the party too early, and is sorely missed.
First, politics have become less about politics. Second, it’s interesting that people choose to specifically blame Obama for doing exactly what America has done throughout history. I wonder why that is?
This is the first video with Anthony in it that I've watched since he died, he was such a huge part of my life and after he was gone, it was just too hard to think about. But after having also lost some friends, I realize that it really isn't going to stop hurting, and that's just something that you have to live with. Your memory of the person and how much you celebrate them is really what they left for you, and in that context Anthony gave us all so much. Just because he's gone now doesn't change who he was, and I'm glad I watched this video.
Thank the God's for President Obama! A clarion voice for sensibility and pragmatic thought. We were so lucky to have Tony for as long as we did. Seeing them together here, even though it's a few years ago, gives me hope for the world and a positive outlook for the future!
I remember seeing this episode 8+ years ago. Amazing that back then, I could watch Anthony once a week and listen to Obama almost daily. Such interesting stories they could tell. Miss them both, greatly.
Absolutely beautiful piece. It's more sad and poignant now given how as a country we are turning in more. Not just distrusting people in other countries but distrusting fellow Americans. So many of us live in fear of those different than us and believe that we are being invaded and overrun. I've had Bun Cha in Hanoi and I've had it in Houston, in Minneapolis and San Francisco. It is good in all those places and our country is better for it that we embrace those differences even from former enemies than fear it.
Miss you Mr Bourdain we loved your travels and food adventures and wow we certainly miss Obama what a great person and president, no comment on the orange buffoon.
Damn it TONY!!!!!!! Wish you would have reached out to someone! David Cho (ur great friend) cried on Rogan for several minutes. He, and I miss you very very much!
After watching this episode, still can’t believe that Anthony Bourdain is no longer with us ..this was a great conversation with the President..🙏🙏 RIP to one of the greatest foodies ever
Telling an 8 year old that 'that isn't acceptable' is exactly the energy and nerve you need to tell other world leaders 'that isn't acceptable.' I just hope the world leaders aren't talking about ketchup and hot dogs. 😂😂😂
I stayed at a hotel around the corner. While they filmed this episode. I went there the next night. Bourdain was big on showing the local cuisine. Not the best, but what the typical meal to local patron is like. I went to a Bahn Mi store in Hoi A that Anthony went to on a Cooks Tour. There were lines out the door for a mediocre sandwich. They couldn’t keep up the quality anymore. In later tv shows. He stopped giving out the names of the restaurants. He realized what he was doing to mom & pop places. That just being on tv was ruining the restaurants with overcrowding. The demand was too high. So the quality was thrown out the window.
Obama drips with charisma and very intelligent...but at 2:43, would have to disagree. There is nothing wrong with ketchup on a hot dog. Mustard, relish, sauerkraut, chili, cheese, jalapenos etc..a lot that works
I'm here after November 5, 2024. "Progress is not a straight line, but things are going to work out." It's very comforting to hear that.

now he's dead and the world is in a worse place then ever before
I didnt know he had kids 😢
rewatching this with him gone now i also was sadden
No he wasn't he was the sam if not worse.
I cried
I always remember the beginning of this segment with the rain, the people, the motorcade, and the music. Anthony Bourdain has the best music and storytelling.
yes, i agree...but he had in this episode the best scenario ever: Vietnam.
Eating at Bun Cha Huong Lien in Hanoi with the picture of BO & AB right above our table. The food tastes amazing
I did the same yesterday. So cool!
😳😵💫💯✌️
Obama now is a legend in Vietnam. So is Anthony Bourdain. Even though Tony is no longer with us, the Vietnamese people will always remember him with love and respect.
I went to Hanoi and this restaurant just for this reason. I had the Obama special and it was not a disappointment.
I would love to go to Hanoi one day! Vietnam seems like such a beautiful county

Of all the fabulous places, you fall for the tourist trap. How sad.
is it good?
@@EGO0808 this place is literally great. who cares if it's a tourist trap, it's popular for a reason and the family works really hard
Miss them both. Anthony Bourdain a true legend and icon.
I don’t miss Obama at all his presidency was one big 💩 stain on America
@JHB6712 the last 40+ years of Presidents are a stain on America.

RIP Anthony Bourdain. You used food as an entry point to help us learn about each other. You are missed.

Legends of what? Killing himself, or terrible policy?

I shed a tear as I watch this! I miss Mr. Bourdain and what he was able to do through his shows! Rest in Peace my friend! ☮️🖖🏽

Politics aside, I don’t understand how anyone can’t like Obama on a personal level.
That's so weird because I feel the opposite. He just seems like a hardworking individual and I can't understand the hate
It's quite difficult to separate politics from a guy who has bombed and sown chaos in many of your brothers' countries over his reign
Obama is a perfect example of a lesson I intend to teach my kids--a charismatic person is not necessarily a good person

I miss Obama as President. A man capable of joy. Bourdain- we miss you as well. This clip makes me happy.
Obama is a war criminal! He launched a drone strike on a wedding procession!

My two idols sharing a beer in Vietnam
When the President pulled up, the reaction of the people on the street was priceless.
Watching Obama compared to the Great Orange One is such a night and day difference. Miss Obama as President, and I miss Bourdain period.
obama is a sociopath
thats not a political statement
its a factual one

You can Tell Anthony just wanted the simpler things in life.
No other President will ever be this cool (if you ignore his warcrimes that is)
Thanks for posting - what a loss Anthony is and in a more ‘present’ way, the absence of a true statesman.

Si les Etats Unis savaient combien ici en France Barack Obama est admiré ! God bless you.
Please, more !

Crazy even Anthony Bourdain appeared a tad tense in front of Obama.
plot twist: the couple next to them are secret bodyguards trained to blend in.
