I think the proper tribute to Anthony Bourdain would be that wherever you live venture across town, across the tracks to a café you would not normally go to then order a meal and talk with strangers.
He was fantastic in all forms. And that is an amazing impression to someone who did not have the honor of knowing him personally..God bless his loved ones. And Thank God for Anthony Bourdain!! He is with the angels now!

He talked about his depression and how something as simple as ordering a bad hamburger at an airport could send him into a deep depression for weeks. The man was suffering with major depression and no one, not even his daughter could have been enough. When you are feeling hopeless to the point of thinking about enduring your life you are not thinking rational. All you want is for the pain to stop and feel nothing. That is why it’s very dangerous to be alone when you’re thinking like this because you literally can’t trust yourself. What he needed was to reach out to to someone to seek professional help. Possible medication and therapy have helped millions including myself and my boyfriend. I know in the days leading up to his suicide he unfollowed his girlfriend on Instagram when the pictures came out in the tabloids of her with another man. I watched his final documentary about his life and the people who worked close with him says he was completely infatuated with her. To the point were he was allowing her to direct one of his shows even though she has no experience and allowing her to make decisions on the set that he would have normally been against.
I’m a 20 year old line cook and I’ve been working the line since I was 15. I used to get off work late and even though I was tired of the kitchen I could never get enough of his shows. I’m paraphrasing “you do this whole show and dance then you clean up go home and get ready to do it all over again”. Still after I get off work I like to sit back and watch him while having a beer just like I used to at 15 lol. He used to say that lots of cooks come from broken homes and when they are in the kitchen they find the only organization in their lives. I grew up with bipolar disorder which came on at a young age due to severe drug abuse, split parents, poverty, depression, being arrested 3 times before I was 18 once being carried away in shackles to the hospital. Nothing has ever made me feel more at home than the kitchen. Even when I come home stressed out there’s nothing I’d rather do with my life. Cooking is my peace and Anthony has always been my biggest inspiration. Many times I’ve contemplated suicide but I’ve gone on sometimes only because other people couldn’t. I miss you so much Anthony but your words will always ring on in my head and keep me going till the last ticket is printed. Rest in power

I talked to my good friends about his death at the time it happened, and we all said the exact same thing. I think he was just a lot more real than pretty much everybody else in television. For some reason, we all felt personally connected to him. One of the worst human losses of a public figure in a long time. Rest in peace, Tony.

Mann this guy saved me and went out like i never thought !! I had a motor bike accident , on the verge of loosing my job , crippled in bed all i did was watch his show !! By watching him travels the world and seeing how successful he was gave me hope when i was thinking of taking my life, he lifted me up , then i saw the news on tv and just said thank you for saving my life !
I'm a US expat living blissfully in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I came here to a great degree because of Mr. Bourdain's show on Chiang Mai. I'm quite literally sitting in this chair, right now, in this condo building in this beautiful city, surrounded by the beautiful people, because of this gentleman. I've been thinking about this all day and all I can do is look up, press my palms together, closs my eyes and say Thank You, Tony.
I’m about a year away from moving to Thailand. Purchased a condo and just waiting for it to be finished being built. After his death I went through my house and just started throwing stuff away. I’m really not sure why but I feel like the next chapter of my life is right around the corner.
For me it was Spain, then Beijing, and oddly enough now I'm in Detroit for my Masters degree. I've had the travel bug for a long time, but after finding his shows Tony was my go-to guy if I wanted to check somewhere out from an honest perspective. I'm mourning his loss like I've never mourned someone I didn't know. As so many people are saying, I feel like just lost a good friend.

I remember he died while I was in prison and I was really bummed out because his shows were always a really nice escape for me and helped me understand a little more about other parts of the world and it's people. I'm grateful to have known who you were and what you did, Tony. Thank you.
I was paddling around Minyama Island (Qld, Oz) on my Kayak with my radio on when the news of Michael Hutchence's death broke....... It busted me up. I was a broke Uni student back in the eighties and saw him with his first band - the "helicopters" next to Uni in a dingy pub....... then of course he hit big time with the Farris brothers. There was always something very strange with Anthony Bourdains passing? Never worked it out and miss him..... Take care guys..... Something was odd here?
Anthony Bourdain was our tutor and Chef for more than a month in New York when I was in my early 20ies. We had a great bond and later met up in London, Istanbul and Morocco. He was shooting No Reservations episodes. He was as pure and open as you see here. He is the reason for me to choose a life style based on cooking and traveling. May he rest in peace.

I was gutted when I heard the news. Still am. Used to watch him with my mom, living in my grandparents converted garage. I was going through a rough stage in my life and his shows made me feel happy. I lived vicariously through him. RIP Anthony. You are missed.

I always admired the way he was totally fearless and always admitted his faults and addictions. The one where he was in the middle East and had Jews and Muslims and another person and said it is hard to break bread together and maintain your prejudices. He was genuinely himself and made no apologies for it. He was a gift to the world.
I'm stuck at home working 7 days a week for a severely disabled person. The vicarious breath of fresh air watching Anthony traveling around and sampling fascinating foods really got me out of a funk; inspired me to cook international recipes and make the world my own wherever I happen to be. In some cases, though that's just the way the caregiver processes and at the same time blocks out the pain of empathizing with the other person, which can be so overwhelming as to be impossible to comprehend. It reminds me of a scene in a David Lynch movie where a girl who has just been in a severe car accident and probably will die is wandering around the scene of the wreckage all bloody, complaining that she can't find her hair clip and that her mother will kill her because she lost her hair clip. I think in wartime situations, too, people can focus on and complain of trivial things as a way of attempting to manage something that is staggeringly senseless. This is just another way of looking at it. I've had a kind of survivor's guilt for a really long time, guilty that I am able bodied and he isn't. It is still hard to tell him that I recently enjoyed a bike ride or had a terrific workout without feeling that I'm accidentally lording it over him. I just hope he can enjoy it vicariously through me the way I enjoy traveling the world vicariously through Anthony Bourdain. It's funny how hard it can be communicating with people on social media. I was trying to illustrate gratitude, but in order to really show the gratitude I had to show some sort of need that was filled. That came across to you as complaining. I have to laugh in a way. This is really motivational, especially knowing that Anthony Bourdain didn't become successful until he was 44. I am about to turn 40 and still working on becoming a great novelist and filmmaker. I have a lot of great ideas but struggle with anxiety, depression, and financial problems. It can be really difficult to try to make art when you're dealing with all that, but I believe in my stories and know that they need to be out there.

I was lucky enough to with a group of friends 10 years ago. We hardly got through the first drink without dying of laughter. He was a master shit talker in the best of ways. He was good at picking people apart in a funny harmless way. Literally best company you could have wished for.

Bourdain was continually learning new things about himself and about other people. Any of his loyal followers could see that, even vegetarians like me. At every moment in his life, once he had gotten over his early addiction to heroin, he was growing and inspiring people he worked with to push the boundaries of their craft. That's not the mark of a depressive who's at the end of his road. How can someone who increasingly gives others new reasons to live have given up on his own life? It doesn't make sense.
People who were never addicted to drugs don't realize how severely they affect you for the rest of your life, even after bring sober for decades. It changes you down to your consciousness. I feel that he might have been tired of the demons and the need to continuously adapt. It all gets so tiring

Like, I've lost a lot of people I've been very close to way earlier than I should have, and seeing people so upset about celeb deaths always just makes me think, "dude, chill out, you didn't know them." I miss this guy. He was the kinda uncle I wish I had and the kinda uncle I hope to be. He was the uncle that instead of buying us some kitschy souvenir from the airport gift shop, he took all of us along on his trips, managing to fit ALL of us on a plane, a scooter or canoe.

I will tell you with much confidence and truth. I'm 35 a kitchen manager who is on the line 45 hours a week. In the busiest restaurant around - Anthony Bourdain is an icon to many old heads and young bloods around. He was a breath of fresh air for many of us during his 15 minutes of fame. Sad to see him go but the bottom line shows you many of us are struggling far beyond what we display. I'm not religious what so ever. But may you all stay blessed and understand your value!

You could write a book simply using many of Tony's thoughts, insights and visionary quotes in this interview. It's perplexing someone with such a great perspective on life chose to do what he did. There's so many contradictions in this interview. He appeared happy and "supported".
The guy was pure class , without trying to be classy , simple humble dialogue, never said to much about the food he was eating , but us the viewer would know it's good , nothing dramatic , never over the top , just it is what it is type of guy , I loved watching him , the man was a genius without even trying , likeable we say to relate to , what more can do you want
I liked how he was so professional and self-aware at the same time. And just a very interesting, articulate guy who wasn't fake or gimmicky. I used to watch my show with my brother and dad, we were so bummed when we found out he passed. Both a great writer and host.

He talked about his depression and how something as simple as ordering a bad hamburger at an airport could send him into a deep depression for weeks. The man was suffering with major depression and no one, not even his daughter could have been enough. When you are feeling hopeless to the point of thinking about enduring your life you are not thinking rational. All you want is for the pain to stop and feel nothing. That is why it’s very dangerous to be alone when you’re thinking like this because you literally can’t trust yourself. What he needed was to reach out to to someone to seek professional help. Possible medication and therapy have helped millions including myself and my boyfriend. I know in the days leading up to his suicide he unfollowed his girlfriend on Instagram when the pictures came out in the tabloids of her with another man. I watched his final documentary about his life and the people who worked close with him says he was completely infatuated with her. To the point were he was allowing her to direct one of his shows even though she has no experience and allowing her to make decisions on the set that he would have normally been against.

I’m a 20 year old line cook and I’ve been working the line since I was 15. I used to get off work late and even though I was tired of the kitchen I could never get enough of his shows. I’m paraphrasing “you do this whole show and dance then you clean up go home and get ready to do it all over again”. Still after I get off work I like to sit back and watch him while having a beer just like I used to at 15 lol. He used to say that lots of cooks come from broken homes and when they are in the kitchen they find the only organization in their lives. I grew up with bipolar disorder which came on at a young age due to severe drug abuse, split parents, poverty, depression, being arrested 3 times before I was 18 once being carried away in shackles to the hospital. Nothing has ever made me feel more at home than the kitchen. Even when I come home stressed out there’s nothing I’d rather do with my life. Cooking is my peace and Anthony has always been my biggest inspiration. Many times I’ve contemplated suicide but I’ve gone on sometimes only because other people couldn’t. I miss you so much Anthony but your words will always ring on in my head and keep me going till the last ticket is printed. Rest in power

I talked to my good friends about his death at the time it happened, and we all said the exact same thing. I think he was just a lot more real than pretty much everybody else in television. For some reason, we all felt personally connected to him. One of the worst human losses of a public figure in a long time. Rest in peace, Tony.

By watching him travels the world and seeing how successful he was gave me hope when i was thinking of taking my life, he lifted me up , then i saw the news on tv and just said thank you for saving my life !
I'm a US expat living blissfully in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I came here to a great degree because of Mr. Bourdain's show on Chiang Mai. I'm quite literally sitting in this chair, right now, in this condo building in this beautiful city, surrounded by the beautiful people, because of this gentleman. I've been thinking about this all day and all I can do is look up, press my palms together, closs my eyes and say Thank You, Tony.

I’m about a year away from moving to Thailand. Purchased a condo and just waiting for it to be finished being built. After his death I went through my house and just started throwing stuff away. I’m really not sure why but I feel like the next chapter of my life is right around the corner.
For me it was Spain, then Beijing, and oddly enough now I'm in Detroit for my Masters degree. I've had the travel bug for a long time, but after finding his shows Tony was my go-to guy if I wanted to check somewhere out from an honest perspective. I'm mourning his loss like I've never mourned someone I didn't know. As so many people are saying, I feel like just lost a good friend.

I was paddling around Minyama Island (Qld, Oz) on my Kayak with my radio on when the news of Michael Hutchence's death broke....... It busted me up. I was a broke Uni student back in the eighties and saw him with his first band - the "helicopters" next to Uni in a dingy pub....... then of course he hit big time with the Farris brothers. There was always something very strange with Anthony Bourdains passing? Never worked it out and miss him..... Take care guys..... Something was odd here?

Anthony Bourdain was our tutor and Chef for more than a month in New York when I was in my early 20ies.
We had a great bond and later met up in London, Istanbul and Morocco. He was shooting No Reservations episodes.
He was as pure and open as you see here. He is the reason for me to choose a life style based on cooking and traveling. May he rest in peace.

In some cases, though that's just the way the caregiver processes and at the same time blocks out the pain of empathizing with the other person, which can be so overwhelming as to be impossible to comprehend. It reminds me of a scene in a David Lynch movie where a girl who has just been in a severe car accident and probably will die is wandering around the scene of the wreckage all bloody, complaining that she can't find her hair clip and that her mother will kill her because she lost her hair clip. I think in wartime situations, too, people can focus on and complain of trivial things as a way of attempting to manage something that is staggeringly senseless. This is just another way of looking at it. I've had a kind of survivor's guilt for a really long time, guilty that I am able bodied and he isn't. It is still hard to tell him that I recently enjoyed a bike ride or had a terrific workout without feeling that I'm accidentally lording it over him. I just hope he can enjoy it vicariously through me the way I enjoy traveling the world vicariously through Anthony Bourdain. It's funny how hard it can be communicating with people on social media. I was trying to illustrate gratitude, but in order to really show the gratitude I had to show some sort of need that was filled. That came across to you as complaining. I have to laugh in a way. This is really motivational, especially knowing that Anthony Bourdain didn't become successful until he was 44. I am about to turn 40 and still working on becoming a great novelist and filmmaker. I have a lot of great ideas but struggle with anxiety, depression, and financial problems. It can be really difficult to try to make art when you're dealing with all that, but I believe in my stories and know that they need to be out there.
Just do it. You only miss the shot you never take.

I've made all the money I've ever dreamed of did it make things easier sure did it make me any happier at times it did but the excitement wears off after the big house, fancy car, trips etc its gets to be all the same. I'm pretty much starting over again at 46 and if I get a another chance to make big cash again which I will ill definitely do it different this time around.

There was an episode where he was in Los Angeles and he made it a point to always go to In-N-Out and order a double-double. And so, here is this world traveler who thoroughly enjoys the very same burger I can have and enjoy in my town. I definitely felt a connection to him at that moment. RIP

There's no way to process what's happened to him, it's humanly impossible. Only thing I can think of is that as an Tony being an intellectual and atheist, leaving this life by force kind of makes sense. Another thing, we're not afraid to explore this new adventure you mentioned, since it's an inevitable thing coming in no time so it's just better to hang on till the end of this one. Maybe we're just too full of religion information to go ahead and do something like that.

Bourdain was continually learning new things about himself and about other people. Any of his loyal followers could see that, even vegetarians like me. At every moment in his life, once he had gotten over his early addiction to heroin, he was growing and inspiring people he worked with to push the boundaries of their craft. That's not the mark of a depressive who's at the end of his road. How can someone who increasingly gives others new reasons to live have given up on his own life? It doesn't make sense.

I normally hate when people get super emotional and dramatic about a celebrity dying. Like, I've lost a lot of people I've been very close to way earlier than I should have, and seeing people so upset about celeb deaths always just makes me think, "dude, chill out, you didn't know them."

I miss this guy. He was the kinda uncle I wish I had and the kinda uncle I hope to be. He was the uncle that instead of buying us some kitschy souvenir from the airport gift shop, he took all of us along on his trips, managing to fit ALL of us on a plane, a scooter or canoe.
Anthony had his demons just like everyone else. He was a true individual that spoke his mind. I'm sad he is not with us anymore.

I will tell you with much confidence and truth. I'm 35 a kitchen manager who is on the line 45 hours a week. In the busiest restaurant around - Anthony Bourdain is an icon to many old heads and young bloods around. He was a breath of fresh air for many of us during his 15 minutes of fame.
Sad to see him go but the bottom line shows you many of us are struggling far beyond what we display.

You could write a book simply using many of Tony's thoughts, insights and visionary quotes in this interview. It's perplexing someone with such a great perspective on life chose to do what he did. There's so many contradictions in this interview. He appeared happy and "supported".
The guy was pure class , without trying to be classy , simple humble dialogue, never said to much about the food he was eating , but us the viewer would know it's good , nothing dramatic , never over the top , just it is what it is type of guy , I loved watching him , the man was a genius without even trying , likeable we say to relate to , what more can do you want
I liked how he was so professional and self-aware at the same time. And just a very interesting, articulate guy who wasn't fake or gimmicky. I used to watch my show with my brother and dad, we were so bummed when we found out he passed. Both a great writer and host.
