      The Ronaldo photo was certainly a joke from his part. He is very knowledgeable and likes to put some humour in his videos. But i do agree that this type of joke is not accessible to most people that do not know football or the Portuguese culture (certainly not limited to Portugal in any way: Brasil, Angola, Cabo Verde, etc etc).
      As a Portuguese i am happy and proud to see completely different people and culture expressing themselves in completely different/unique manners and all the while sharing a common future. Of course brothers will always have their differences, rivalries (love and hate) and even jokes but that only shows that the family is not dead. At this time Portuguese is no longer our Label property (for a long time now even), but we still have Portuguese of Portugal 😊
      We Portuguese of Portugal have a similar relation with Spain (Iberia) to the one a mentioned before and i have no doubt that Brasil (and anybody else in its own manner) has a similar relation to all the other south american countries.
      Shared history is shared bonds.

    Hey, i am brazilian researcher and i thought it was important to add a comment:
    Actually, the amazon's deforestation isn't related to any needs of providing more food for Brazil's future generations coming. Most of the food available on local markets we shop here are from much smaller sized and familiar managed agricultural business and communities.
    In general, Amazon deforestation happens so big farmers which own most of the agricultural land in Brazil can profit way more by using our land to enrich basically only themselves, mostly selling commodities internationally. These groups act pretty much like a mafia do: they are organized and resourcefull, having great influence on our political system and are also heavily militarized.

    8:30 regarding the racial pie graph, I think it’s important to point out that Brazil’s racial demographics (as said in the video) are decided on self identification, and there’s still a lot of anti-black sentiment in Brazil (which leads a lot of Brazilians to whiten themselves, on official records anyway). So, a lot of those “pardo” people are actually just black and a lot of “white” people are pardo (mixed race). Also, the 0,5 indigenous population is true but not really. For you to identify as indigenous in Brazil you have to be culturally indigenous, but due to colonialism most Brazilians are far removed from their indigenous ancestry. In the northern states plus some of the more western states of the northeast and the state of Mato Grosso you get tons of people who are obviously of predominantly indigenous descent (in terms of blood) but cannot identify as indigenous officially.

    • @WilliamSantos-cv8rr
      @WilliamSantos-cv8rr ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That is partially true. Because there no totally isolated population in the world everyone is mixed, but regarding the black community even the ones that regard themselves as black are extremely mixed. So in the same news telling about the average "white" Brazilian having 20% ad mixture from other ethnicities they tell that in average the ones that call themselves blacks have an average of 50% of other ethnicities. To conclude, basically Brazil has a huge population of pardos.

    • @AlexPenna55
      @AlexPenna55 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@WilliamSantos-cv8rr thats the thing, there isn't such thing as "pardo" in US or Europe, you're either black or white because isn't about a color gradient, rather from your origin. The average brazilian calls himself pardo because he thinks he is too white to be black, but he is definitely black to foreign people from western countries, specially USA

    • @reinerstitties
      @reinerstitties ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @VeteranVandal
      @VeteranVandal ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I personally think racial selfidentification isn't a problem and is better than an external actor doing it, specially if it could be used for nefarious purposes, besides, judging if someone belongs to a culture instead sounds super complex to me. I'd rather have selfidentification be used for inclusive policies, tho I can see approaches involving class instead as easier to do, socially, ending up correcting very very slowly some past injustices in much the same manner in a longer time. What would they do instead? DNA test everyone and saying percentages (if that's at all possible, which I think is only a rough approximation)? I don't know of any government doing such a thing and I think if they did it could lead to terrible results too - since some have past or present involving ethnic genocide, specially some current European far right governments, but not limited to that continent.
      I think the "black" (or immigrant) and "white" (or native) separation in encouraged elsewhere as a political tool to separate people of the same social classes outside of Brazil, generally speaking, since most governments just act as corporate representatives instead of voter representatives, they have to distract and divide people using things they can't change about themselves, like ancestry, instead of presenting progress which usually ends up costing corporations money since equality can only be achieved by effectively chopping some wealth back to people in poverty (by not letting inequality happen, in other words), no matter what system is used. Corporations would rather fund racist and antiracist sentiments so their taxes don't go up and their profits down. In this way, you keep accusing your neighbor of problems that were generated by the economic system instead, taking the eyes of the general population off of the ball.

    As a brazilian I need to correct something. When he said that the deforestation is something related to population growth and there is no solution for this problem, he was mistaken. Brazil is a country that supports his economy on exportation of goods from mining and cattle raising, so Amazon Forest is being deforested due to illegal rich people related to these kinds of activities. The thing is: we have plenty of land and the destruction is not even for brazilian people take something good from it, because this production is only for exportation.

    • @carloswiik
      @carloswiik ปีที่แล้ว

      Well said. Most food produced in Brazil is for exports, not internal consumption. We do not need to put down the forest to feed our people. We must add the advances of the mining activities, usually ilegal and cause of nasty pollution.

    - Acre was bought by Brazil from Bolívia, there is no territorial contest there like he jokes about
    - This one is very wrong, BRAZILIAN POPULATION IS NOT GROWING, actually we have already rechead the peak of population of 220 million people, so the deforestation in Amazon and Cerrado is not causeed to suply the internal market, but the external.

      same in Brazil. I wouldn't be surprised if the 6-7 continents thing became spread more because of the american influence and not really because other nations came to the same conclusion on their own.

    • @ebreshea1337
      @ebreshea1337 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@offsdexter2 similarly separating eurasia into europe and asia is arbitrary. You could also group africa with asia without any problem. Suez connects asia and africa in the same way that panama connects north and south america. So it's Afro-Eurasia, America, Australia/Oceania, and Antarctica. 4 continents, or only 3 if you disregard Antarctica. Any further division is just as a convention.
      Btw in usa, I've never heard anyone say that mexico isn't part of north america. South of mexico is usually called "central america" but we know that's not a continent but a geographical region.

Basically it's analyzes latin america underdevelopment just as a product of exploration from Europe and USA, without deepen in the numerous wrong choices that the local states made through history, in order to advocate for a political line of government around here.

    Bread / Cacete (pt) -> cacete is one of the (many) words used to say penis in pt-br, we use pão instead
    Girl / Rapariga (pt) -> rapariga is commonly used as whore in pt-br, we use garota instead

    There's this documentary, called "First Contact: Lost Tribe of the Amazon" from 2016 that has interesting images and stories about uncontacted tribes.
    I remember two major points from it:
    -A previously uncontacted tribe, that was hanging by a thread, and was then contacted by the agents and reporters, and taken care of. I believe there might be controversy around this, since contact is complicated, you could argue that you must rescue a tribe in need or that a zero contact policy is necessary to protect them and their culture. Most people will dislike at least one or another thing about the how the agents proceeded, but come on, they have empathy and are human, and so is the tribe. Anyway, I remember that the agent speaks their language or one close enough to it, and they tell a few stories, focusing on the events that almost lead to their disappearance.
    -Images from an actual uncontacted warrior tribe, which I found very interesting.
    Also, if anyone's interested, the Tupi language from the brazilian tribes (maybe the ones from the coast?) can be quite interesting and beautiful, despite somewhat simple. And, a LOT of places, plants and animals in Brazil are named with the language, while even brazilians completely forget about that.
