Stihl ms660 - Insane-O-ized!!!

  • Here we have an insane-o-ized ms660 on it's maiden voyage and second tree - kind of a fatty red on the stump. This tree was damaged and breaks in half as it goes through the leave trees while headed to the road so the yarding crew can grab it easily.
    We are still running rich on the needles with dark screen as it is still not broken in yet. Seems like it handles this 3' bar and chain nicely.
    I am currently available for port work. If you are interested please shoot me an email.

    The MS660 was always my favorite saw until i bought a MS661 but they are still a awesome saw but yes they give u white finger if you swing on them every day compared to the very smooth 61. Always enjoy your vids bloke.

    Great job I love the way you wedge on one side an leave a little extra meat on the other side to help pull it the way you want it to go.Just thinking about the stihl 500i I asked you about could it be a coincidence a few year back Dolmar had a proto type 500v which was a true crankcase oil supplied 4 stroke I can't even find a picture of 1 on the net ?

      The stroke in the 572 is reportedly way long. Might be a problem with the deck height. Guess we will (hopefully) see soon......

      Nunya hi.
      The wider the hinge, the more control the faller has.
      Also, there is other dialog in the comments section that address the undercut. Mr. Chipps, for example, expounded a little. I'd take a gander.
      Thanks for watching.

    I've watched this one before but came across it again looking at some other guys ported saws. Is this 660 actually whistling it's sucking so much air?

  • @KimballCody
    @KimballCody 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have very little experience cutting big wood so could you elaborate on the theory of cutting more than 50% of the diameter of the stump with your face cut?

    • @ryananderson5946
      @ryananderson5946 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      KimballCody I've heard the technique referred to as "sawing lean into the tree". Putting facecuts or notches to a depth of only 1/3 the way into the stump. A timber faller will find themselves wedging, pulling, or jacking more trees than they need to. If you think of a conifer that stands straight with fairly even limb weight. It's nothing more than a cylinder. So, if you cut into that cylinder halfway or more, you can get the tree to move ahead before putting in the back cut.

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It could be that the guy felling the tree wanted something in particular to happen, or not, at/on the stump as the tree was falling as well.
      Thanks for watching.

    Kudos on the 660 jack. Is that 660 your personal saw? Also is it the insanoized ss version

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a saw I had. I sold it to a faller in NorCal. This saw was more along the lines of a standard insane-o with some of the really early flow enhancement tricks.
      Thanks for watching.

    Hey I have a 661cm 2016 mod, wondering about a wrap bar (fellers rams horn etc) but they did some extra antivibe mounting and a lot of aftermarket bars wont fit, also wondering about a working saw port, its a daily runner used felling and bucking mate. Any ideas as to what you would suggest? I am in Australia but I have friends traveling all the time so getting that powerhead wouldn't be hard..

    How come he put the axe in on the wedge cut? My first assumption was that it didn't pinch the saw if it had a forward lean, but it seem pretty straight from the video. Second, he watches the axe in case it starts falling backwards.

    • @bryanchipps6572
      @bryanchipps6572 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Teymur E by putting the ace into the cut slightly do it is just barely hanging there you can see if the tree is moving( if the handle goes up the tree is starting to lean into you cut,if it goes down it's going away from your cut) do in you face cut you cut until it starts to rise that way you know you it deep enough. And on the back cut if the handle starts going up you need to throw s wedge in and if the handle starts to drop the tree is falling

      Things can be done to make a saw run superb. Hope your pockets are Mariana Trench deep. Could not be done with a "60cc" saw either.

    • @hotsaws101

      Shane hi. It refers to the level of tune or my middle of the road zippkit of Insane-O. They run insanely good, which is the play on words.
