    Just like to add "crash bars" to the list. I got mine plus the low seat free of charge! Then a week or so later I was given a Nav 5. Thankyou very much Coopers. Defo wouldn't be without it now. The 'shift assist was also std on my 2015 Alpine TE. Still love it to bits and off to Morocco in 10 days time. :-). Funnily enough the longest party is Northumberland to Plymouth. :-).
    Carry on TMF.

      +NilSatis No9 Glad you like the graphics, I'll try not to overdo them but thought they were quite fun for these "top 5" type videos.....and I'm in Buckinghamshire by the way, the adjoining county to Berkshire - slightly more up market I like to think ;0)

    Hi TMF, have watched this and your sat nav video and was just wondering if I have a problem with mine. Not able to find some of the screens that you do, the one I would find useful is the large display digital speedo, bought mine 2nd hand so maybe that's why he sold it.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Danny Bannister If you can get any screen that shows the data fields up just "zoom in" with the wheel selector thing and you can get any of the fields to show on it's own (if you follow)....give that a whirl and shout if it doesn't work......TMF

  • @multibusa
    @multibusa ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi you mentioned that on the Nav V you can have just the speedo reading displayed. I also have the Nav V but haven’t figured out how to have only the speed showing. All I’ve managed to achieve is a 4 window display showing both tyre pressures, the engine temp [i think] and the speedo. As you would possibly agree the analogue speedo is pitifully small for some bizarre reason so having the speed showing on the Nav V is ideal but would be better still if I could have only the speed reading. My GS is a 2013 and I’m wondering if perhaps it’s a feature not available to me?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  ปีที่แล้ว

      When you’re in 4 window mode try zooming out to one window using the whizz wheel on the left handlebar 👍

  • @ParisianZee
    @ParisianZee 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey TMF - loving the videos, motivated me to get some similar stuff myself ... I have a 2014 R1200GS TE too..
    Quick question: your BMW Nav V, do you sometimes get problems with it freezing on you for up to a minute? To me, happens mostly when I change modes with the remote control (freezes for a minute then changes screen) .. or sometimes even randomly whilst following a route and it auto-zooms in. I'm wondering if it's normal and it's just a bit slow, or if I just happen to have a bad unit and should return it under under warranty.
    Thanks!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Parisian Zee Hi Zee - No I don't have problems with it freezing, I just have problems getting it to follow a route without stopping at every waypoint - a great gadget but mine is rubbish if you actually want to follow a route!! Yours sounds faulty to me, have you dropped a note to Garmin about it?- maybe a reinstall is in order.....

    • @ParisianZee
      @ParisianZee 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, just checking! Yup, definitely sounds faulty then. I'll try a factory reset, and if that doesn;t solve the problem I will have to take it to BMW (since I bought it there) and have them replace it under warranty ...

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Parisian Zee ...if it's still under warranty definitely do that - shouldn't be locking up....good luck!

    Good morning, very informative video, thank you,
    Mentioning the low seat grabbed my attention, I’m 5’5” and I’m considering the R1200GS, how do you think the combination of a low suspension and low seat would work for my height … thanks,

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nabil Hijjawi You're welcome - I think low seat and low suspension would be very low....you would be fine (in fact it may be too low) - best to get the specs from a dealer and see what you really need - but there's something for everyone with these bikes. They are great machines - have you had a test ride???

    Thanks again TMF for a great video. Just had my GS in for a service with BMW completing a DME software update/recall which evidently was to assist with quick shifter change sequence in lower gears. Invoice noted relates to recall campaign # 0023100000. Have found to be smoother than what it was. Also rate the cruise control as a must for long trips however some GS's, including mine, were faulty and replaced under warranty. (Not a cheap unit outside warranty). Cheers

    Hi there, I'm just having a break from the night shift humdrum and having a look through some more of your great vids. I took out an R1200GS the other week from Motorad in East Kilbride near Glasgow and it blew me away. What a brilliant all round bike. It beats the F800GS and the F800GT I took out 4 weeks previous to that.
    But anyway, i didnt get a chance to ask them when I returned it, or rather I totally forgot, what the black and gray rotary toggle thing is next to the left hand hand grip. It does turn but I didn't find out what it was. Can you tell me what it is please as Ive tried to google it with no success.
    Cheers, Stu

    Hi, how often do you change the engine oil on your GS? So much discussions on this...I'm thinking to change mine at half the recommended interval...thanks.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only change mine once a year at the annual service, if I did huge miles then I'd do it more often - I like to change oil at least every 6000 miles, if I was really keen every three but it just comes down to having the time/inclination to do it really....your engine will certainly thank you for the more frequent changes, go for it if you can....

    curious and about the quick shifter, I can only downshift one gear at a time and I can only upshift if I let off the throttle. I purchased my slightly used but this does not seem correct to me. what do you think ?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well certainly you can only downshift one gear at a time (it’s a sequential box!) but the whole idea is to upshift with the throttle on - take it to a dealer for a look I reckon!

    Hello again TMF. Beautiful day for a ride ! Still loving my GS. My top 5 would differ slightly from yours. I could benefit from a taller seat for one. I use the Touratech Pro panniers & topcase, also very handy for longer adventures. Mosko soft luggage would work for me too I think. I don't have the quick shifter, I'm sure it works but I've managed to keep it smooth manually. I kept the stock windscreen & added the Wunderlich Vario Ergo screen deflector above it, good kit as well.
    It would be my pleasure to play host & guide to you if ever you decide to holiday in my part of the world. On a side note...I'm on an iPad and see all the print on the screen, contrary to previous sub's comment. 👍 🍻

    I didn't appreciate how good the vario panniers were until I looked at the Honda ones that come with the Crosstourer. Well worth the rather high price tag!
    You need the Tops of the Pops music in the background 😉
    Liked the auto blip 'extra footage, nice work TMF.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DervMan Cheers DM - and yes that would have been good (or the pick of the pops music may have been more appropriate for the GS) but I haven't mastered the art of not falling foul of copyright on YT hence why I never use music on my videos (unless I have bought the rights to use it - for example my opening theme tune that cost me £30!!) :0)

    • @TheDervMan
      @TheDervMan 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheMissendenFlyer wow never even thought of that! £30! That's almost two tanks of fuel. I suppose better that than you singing 😂

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +DervMan ...well I see a lot of videos that do have music but I don't know how they get around it (unless they're not monetising their videos), I once put a short clip of the Knightrider music on a video and got a warning from YT about it, since then I make sure I'm copyright infringement free!!

    • @samrowland5838
      @samrowland5838 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheMissendenFlyer I have run afoul of the YT copyright police too and had videos blocked...I have some videos that have the notation "includes copyrighted content"...but no notice from YT about infringement...go figure

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sam Rowland Yeah I wish I knew the trick to including copyrighted material, because on occasion a bit of backing music would be just the ticket!

    Thanks for yet another great video TMF! Big fan of yours here in South Africa :).
    I agree - the Nav 5 as a pure navigational device doesn’t work well, which sort of defeats the purpose of owning one doesn’t it? I was surprised enough by its poor navigation that I took it back to the dealer because I thought it was faulty. Subsequently I called Garmin and the consultant guided me through several checks and then confirmed that it was operating perfectly. Quite frankly I’m surprised Garmin hasn’t released a fix in the form of a firmware update to address this issue. Is it possible no one has complained because of the obvious secondary benefits? Or is there a ‘secret’ combination of settings that regular folks like us have yet to stumble upon to make it work like it should?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Andrew Harvey Hi Andy and thanks for the kind words. Mine works ok in that it does know where I am, my issue is more around usability with respect to following routes, it's rubbish for that! Thanks for stopping by, all the best - TMF

    Do you prefer the Vario cases over the aluminum ones? Just wondering why, as I am about to get something similar for my bike from Givi.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Boodieman72 I do - mainly because I don't have to have all that scaffolding over the bike when I take the panniers off - the attachment method is much neater (although I agree the big aluminium boxes look more macho if that's your thing!)....

    • @Boodieman72
      @Boodieman72 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheMissendenFlyer The aluminum boxes are also more expensive. I suppose they make more sense if you ride off road a lot with the GS, but I know that's not what you do with yours. Btw, are the vario cases the same size on both sides or is one larger than the other.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. I retire in 2 years come July and I have always promised myself to get a prestige bike. I currently own a Suzuki Bandit 1250GT and I go touring over Europe every year camping. I've had this bike 5 years and had it from new. This is my 3rd new bandit and I need a change. I've been eyeing the BMW 1200GS as I want a shaft driven bike and I've liked your reviews on it and the accessories you put on have. I intend to do a lot more travelling when I retire and continue camping. Would you recommend the GS or is there any thing else you would consider.
    Great vids, keep it up.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Leslie Shirley Well I'm obviously a GS fan, the only other bike I would consider replacing it with is a BMW R1200RT - have you had a look at those at all, fabulous touring machine I reckon. Other than that I'm a fan of the 800cc triumph tigers and the new Africa Twin is worth a look I reckon. Thanks for your kind comments and good luck choosing! All the best - TMF

  • @nikoscosmos

    TMF I've been watching some previous videos about the accessories you have on the BMW and it hit me. You HAVE to do a video (or series of videos) about your man-cave. What kind of tools you have, how everything is organised etc. I think it would be really beneficial

    Hi MF, great video as always. I have a GS Adventure and totally agree with you on all points except the Vario Panniers - I have opted for soft luggage now. I found hard luggage on my previous GSA impeded progress in very heavy traffic and I ended up carrying most of my mates stuff in them anyway. I travel lighter now and so do they!. Please keep the videos coming!

    • @jayseb
      @jayseb 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, but still with the vario you can shrink them and they’re great in any kind of trafic. At least that’s my experience after 3 years using them on my 800... Ordered the same for my new 1200... I’ll see if I have the same experience.

    HI MF, I love your videos - they're very easy to watch and you've a great presenting style. Is your 63 plate with or without a steering damper? Does it make a difference? Having heard all the scare stories and away to put a deposit on a 13 plate TE, I'd value your opinion. Many thanks, David

    Morning MF. Another informative video. I only have 3 of your top 5 myself-I didn't go for the gear assist pro but like you might add it on later and at 5'7" the standard screen seems ok so far. For thise around our heught U'd suggest going for the low suspension option. There was 1 in the dealer when I took a test ride and it really makes a difference. It also includes the low seat as standard too so quite a bit lower than standard. I too have found the nav5 useful especially for the speed as the analogue speedo on the gs is rubbish and in these days of camera vans its really important to know what speed you're doing in the 30s and 40s which is difficult to read using just the speedo, though you can add it to the LCD too which helps. cheers Ade

      +adrianbarrie13 Morning Adrian - yes if I were any shorter I would have gone with the lowered suspension, I did have a bit of a question in my mind whether it would affect the value when I came to sell (due reduced off-road clearance) but to be fair it may even add value! Well done on being the first to comment on this one - very sharp!

    cheers MF. Personally I paid the extra 175 just because it gave me more confidence and thought if it avoids 1 low speed spill it would be money well spent. Regarding the resale value I don't think it will do any harm in fact it may increase it due to the low ones being so rare. Many considering AV bikes are put off by the seat height so I'm sure any salesman worth his salt will get more for one than the standard version!

    MF I'm enjoying your video's, keep them coming. I myself only have one bike. The 2015 S1000RR. In Australia (the dynamic package came standard) we got gear Assist Pro (brilliant) dynamic suspension etc....However my personal favorite accessory's are cruise control (on a super bike), heated grips, and most of the accronyms that keep the bike stable at Phillip Island. I love them all ;). I'd love to ride any of your bikes, all fantastic. Is any particular one of them your favorite?

      +G B A Hi GBA - glad you're liking my videos, love the fact I have people watching from the other side of the planet - really is awesome (not a word I use often!). The heated grips, dynamic suspension, cruise control and so on come "as standard" on the "TE" bike we have here in Europe, hence why I specifically excluded them - otherwise the grips for sure would have been included in my "top 5"......and no I don't have a favourite bike, just use each of them for different purposes, I love 'em all....thanks for watching - all the best - TMF

      +fredaroony I've heard it's fast enough out of the blocks to beat a lot of sport bikes up 160kph, this doesn't suprise me too much. About to buy a Yamaha WR 250 off a friend of mine maybe in a few months....time to do some dirt bike riding.

      I had fitted an Arrow end-can but I found it a little too loud on longer trips and changed back to stock....hence aftermarket exhaust didn't make my list!

    I think I'd have tyre pressures on the screen if I had a GS. Could save a spill if, heaven forbid, you got a puncture.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ...I have a feeling I read somewhere that you get an alert on the screen if tyre pressures fall below a certain threshold....so you don't have to monitor the actual pressured yourself......it's clever stuff in the land of the GS and Nav V....

      My Tom Tom Rider is the mutts nuts as a GPS but all the integrated bike stuff would be cool.

      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The integration you have on the Beemer + a TomTom Nav would be the best possible scenario - I've yet to use a better satnav than the TomTom (and I've used a few)......

    Once again, nice video. However, for those of us who live in the 'turd world' , these options aren´t available. With the exception of the GPS, in which the maps here are outdated and un-updatable. Anyway, I envy you, living in the first world. I was born there. But, of my 10 children, four are living there. Long line Europe;
