    Motorcycles of Dulles just keeps throwing me keys, and until they stop, I'll just keep saying yes. Today I got to take out a bike that I have began drooling over many years ago. The R1200GS lives up to the hype.

    These are great bikes. Rented a '14 R1200gs in Minnesota and loved the cruiser feel, the torque, and the throttle responsiveness like you said. Never got to take it off-road, but sure it handles just as well there, especially if you're not short.

      +Marshall Bonnette I would love to get a chance to take one of these on a long trip and have some fire roads thrown in. I've thought about renting one for a week and taking it down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Tail of the Dragon.

    Great review! I purchased a new 2016 S1000RR and a 2008 R1200GS back in 2016. Things happened and had to sell both. Last summer I purchased a 2020 S1000RR M Package for track only. Today I purchased another GS, 2015 R1200GS. IMO the best 2 bikes you could ever own at the same time. Only complaint is I wish the GS had more leg protection from the wind. The big ass tank on the Adventure model might offer more protection...

    I was really surprised when I sat on one of these at the dealer. BMW lowered the seat and made the bike much more accessible to people. Previous models were so huge and imposing. You had to use a step ladder to get on.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know right! It's nice to be able to sit on a proper adventure bike without having half of my ass hanging off one side. I sat on an F800GS Adventure a bit ago and felt like a toddler going on his first amusement park ride haha.

    Love the review. Also love the fact that you did the review in Dullas VA. where I live. I knew just about every rode you were on.
    Anyway I'm going to stop by BMW dealer you did and give the BMW R1200 GS a test ride. You said it was perfect for someone in their early 40s and I'm 42 I own a Ducati 800 ss and it's a fun, fast bike but I can only ride for 30-45 minutes cause of the back breaking riding position. This bike is expensive but it has everything I want. Thanks for the review.

      +DukeOfDC Yes, I stopped by and they were unlike any MC dealership that I visited. They encouraged, almost dared, anyone to take one of their bikes out for a test ride. Very helpful and eager to have a rider in their store to entertain them to the BMW brand of ownership.

    Hello DODC. We have tested many of the same bikes. I am leaning heavily toward a 1100 Factory Tuono for a replacement to my current ride. But I am headed out tomorrow for a demo of the 1290R Super Duke. Tested the multi which was pretty good but I prefer the GS. Also tested the s1000rr and s1000xr. The rr was fantastic apart from the heat which was unbearable after about 20 minutes. The XR was a little better with the heat but the bar vibes were a deal breaker for me and the power delivery was too manic for my taste. I would like to test the new r1200rs and then decide what to purchase and make it happen around Christmas.
    I did a demo on the caponord and the 1000 v4 tuono, just like yours about a month ago. The v4 is simply intoxicating and the power delivery is unreal. But I have sat on the 1100 and without a doubt it is far more comfortable. Glad you are keeping your bike. I found your vlog while looking for more videos of V4 tuonos. Good work, keep it up.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +saisr1 Immediately jealous that you've taken out a 1100 Factory Tuono. It's been one of the hardest bikes for me to get ahold of. I've heard a lot of good things about the R1200RS, and whenever I'm at MOD, they always try and get me on one, so it's only a matter of time lol. The power delivery on the Tuono is simply savage and that sound is unlike anything you can get stock, but you're saying what everyone else has told me, that the 1100 is way more comfortable. Thanks for the support!

    • @saisr1
      @saisr1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DukeOfDC Ah I created a bit of confusion. I have not tested the 1100 tuono. I tested a 1000v4 just like your. Since I have not been able to ride it yet I just sat on the 1100 for about 20 minutes with it up on a rear stand just to see if it was more comfortable. It most definitely is. I want the 1100 because the comfort, updated aprc, better looks IMO, and because it seems like a more refined bike. The local dealers claim they are trying to get an 1100 rr for demo. I hope to ride one soon.
      Tested the Super Duke r today. Impressive machine and a motor worth talking about for sure. But I smile just thinking about the Tuono.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      saisr1 Ahhh, gotcha gotcha. Well, I agree with you that the 1100 is more than likely a better bike all around, although with the 1100 coming out, you could get some killer deals on a 1000.
      I'm surprised that the Super Duke didn't change your mind, but I haven't ridden one so maybe it isn't as game changing as I imagine haha. I would love to get my hands on one.
      Whatever you decide to get, I hope to see a video of it soon enough!!

    is there a major difference in the wind protection with the gs vs GS adventure? gsa seems wider from the pics I have seen

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Branion Woody Not sure if they have a different wind screen on the GS adventure, but the wind protection from the GS was great for me. I have heard that if you're on the tall side that the screen puts the buffeting wind right around your helmet, so maybe an upgrade to aftermarket would take care of that.

    Hey dude, just to be clear, did this particular bike have the lower seat modification? I'm also 5'9 30" inseam, and am hoping I'll be able to reach the ground when I go to SoCal in 2 weeks and pick up my rental.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heyyoo - I do not believe this bike had the lower seat modification in place when I rode it, and I had no problem getting my feet on the group. I certainly couldn't flat foot it, but could get more than enough foot down on each side to feel comfortable. Sitting here with feet of snow, brutally jealous of your SoCal trip!! EagleRiders?

    Have you ridden it offroad? Because I have and it is easier than you think! The electronics help you out a lot! But it might be because I am used to the Honda XRV750 Africa Twin offroad. Stepping of that old beast onto this feels like stepping on a tiny lightweight bike. :) I really don't like the single cylinders and i am really looking into getting one of these! Thanks for the review!

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ThreesomeWithTwins I freaking love the new Africa Twin, so I can only imagine how badass the old one is/was. I haven't gotten to take one of these 1200GS' offroad, but I'm sure that even at such a large size, they are probably nimble as. Glad you enjoyed the review!

    • @Set4film
      @Set4film 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats great! had a look at it and looks really good. funny thing is i wouldnt have ever thought that the audio would be as good as you show. ive already got a rode mic lapel mic which i could see if that works to before checking out the sony one. As far as the Sena set up goes how would you really compare the two?

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Set4film Productions Yeah man, definitely try your rode lapel mic first before going out and buying anything else! As for Sena - the sena does a fantastic job of picking up a persons voice, but that's basically it. The sena is meant to muffle out wind noise and bike noise, but that bike noise is a HUGE part of motovlogging audio IMO.

    How old are you? You said 'its not easy getting a test ride when you're this age'. I agree: Im 25 and I find dealers are reluctant to let me try their bikes sometimes. I cant help thinking they'd be much more accommodating if i was forty-something with a paunch...

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sion morris I'm in my mid 20's as well. I've found that at certain dealerships it doesn't matter how old you are, they just don't let anyone take test rides :/ lame shit IMO. At the more premium brands, they certainly size up your potential pocket book first

    The problem with bikes like this, is they are so reliant on electronics to do even the most basic things. There are so many sensors and regulators that it resembles a computer more than it does a motorcycle.
    I recently had to get mine towed because the ECU got confused. Apparently there was a recall on the ECU but BMW only notify you of recalls if it's "safety related" There was also a recall on the right control block, that I was also never notified about.
    Thanks BMW.

    • @DukeOfDC
      @DukeOfDC  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +surg23 I'm with you my friend. I've said it time and time again, and sometimes I wish I hadn't gone with a bike so technically advanced, so soon. The more analogue the bike, the more the rider has to improve their skills to compensate. Nowadays you can throw a relatively new rider on a 1000cc supersport bike with all the bells and whistles and they'll be "fine" - no one's benefiting from that (I've been a bit guilty of this, shamefully).

      DukeOfDC Lol, yeah. I have a love-hate relationship with my GS, but I also have an enduro bike to purify my sins- the purification usually takes place with me face-planting dirt or sliding along the pavement hah.

      +surg23 I would LOVE an enduro bike and consistently scour craigslist for used ones.

      DukeOfDC Originally I bought my enduro to get back into trail riding, but the only place to ride around here is actually illegal and people dump tonnes of rubbish there including Asbestos and other hazardous materials. So if the cops aren't telling you to piss off, you're probably breathing in noxious crap.
      That and the trails are heavily damaged from 4WD usage. Such is the reason my 500 has been in SM trim for ages.
      What model of enduro do you think you will get ?

      surg23 Yeah, we're in a bit of the same predicament. Around here there are a lot of places to go off raading but its a rather far drive, and I would also need a truck, unless I bought something like a WR250R (not really an enduro, but super cool). Other than that, I am a huge KTM fanboy and open to suggestions??

    I love my GS as it really is a super versatile bike, so much so that I have put over 30K miles on mine in two years. It surprisingly fast and agile and I have blown away many sports bikes through the twisties.
    If you want an idea of how nimble it is check out my videos:
