    I fell in love with the GS the moment I laid my eyes on one but could never afford it. Thanks to your videos I at least, get to experience what it's like to ride in one. More two-wheeled power to you TMF! Cheers!

    It was due to this video that I just bought a 1200 GS. Love it just as the MissendenFlyer. Thanks for that. Well done videos! Ride safely, all!

    Couldn't agree more, I used to hate the look of the sticky out cylinders but then when I wanted a change from the tiger 1050, one of my mates said at least have a demo. Instantly loved it from the word go, it does everything I want a bike for, short or long rides I don't see me wanting to own anything else at present. Cheers for the vid, Karl.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karl - you obviously have brilliant taste (you may know I went from a Tiger 1050 to the GS as well). I loved the planted nature of the ol' Tiger and the engine was a peach, but the handling on the GS is in another league....as is pretty much everything else. Thanks for stopping by.....TMF

    Another great video. Thanks for posting. I have a 2014 GS exactly like yours (except I have the spoke wheels) and absolutely love it. Your top 10 pretty much matches mine. I'd add the speed shifter (make the list into top eleven things?) which, IIRC you also retrofitted as I have. For anyone considering buying a GS, I think your videos are an excellent reference. Looking forward to your next video.

      Thanks again Sean - I find the Gear Shift Assist Pro a little clunky on the GS, although I love the downshifting the upshifting is nowhere near as good as on my Ducati or Triumph and have caused me one or two hairy moments with the gear failing to engage and the bike lurching at high speed....maybe I need to get mine looked at by the boffins at BMW...

    Mr. Flyer, so glad you said the Gs is comfortable, after safety that’s my most important feature. I’m a short guy and the weight being low is a real benefit for me just sat on a 2019 1250 Gs in the store and although I was on the balls of my feet it felt very manageable. I may just buy it.

    Totally agree with your top 4 TMF; not only is the electrickery good, it's easy to use and you don't have to dive into a multitude of sub-menus. Great pair of videos, well done👍 Cheers, Andy

      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Andrew Tofts Thanks Andy, yes agreed, although the switchgear is a bit flimsy the usability of the electronics is great, completely agree (especially when compared with say the KTM equivalents)....thanks for watching and stopping by once again - TMF

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mapother78 ....it all depends what you want the bike for, the MTS is a much quicker bike than the GS but on all other counts IMO the GS is the better bike (with the exception of looks!)....hope you agree! All the best - TMF

      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries - I had posted loads of "love" videos before that one, I was surprised just how much people didn't like the "hate" one which was intended as being tongue-in-cheek as far as the title was concerned....oh well, one down to experience!

    Recently my 800 GS Adventure was in the shop for service and I took the shops 1200 GSA for the day. Everything you read and hear about the 1200 is true. It is a spectacular machine. So different from the 800, both good and bad. Glad you did a follow up to the top 10 dislike video awhile back. Was starting to think you didn't like the big old girl!!! Hated to give the 1200 back when mine was ready, now looking for an excuse to get one!!

    I've got an '09 RT-P and I love the balance too, even at walking pace its easier to ride than my CBR 125, and its so flickable as well, was a massive surprise when I brought it, especially on the twisties

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the RT (I think) handles even better than the GS - the same lovely low down weight but somehow the engine seems smoother - if/when the GS goes it'll either be for another GS or an RT.....

    • @markgr1nyer
      @markgr1nyer 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well the engine on my bike has been through 66k and since changing the oil last week (only had the bike for 3k miles) its so smooth I could almost fall asleep on it. Just make sure you keep the sidestand switch clean, mine stranded on the M6 by Stafford this afternoon, easy clean out once recovered though

    I tried the R9T, GS and GSA all on the same day. I actually found the GSA the easiest to ride. Ok, so it's seriously big, but any thing over 2 mph the weight disappears - so the low centre of gravity would be my number 1 too. The other thing I found was turning on the main headlight and fog lights - no one can say didn't see you. On the test ride traffic got out of the way when filtering, plus being high up makes it surprisingly good for filtering - as the gaps seem to open up - they need to, as it is wide.
    Anyway the guy at the dealership knew he had a sale as soon as I walked back in :)
    They had two white full specced GSAs sitting there.
    As for the "hates" - like you - cleaning it, lots of little bits that are hard to reach.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes agreed, these bikes have great presence on the road, especially with the auxiliary lights and panniers, like you say, not really an excuse to say "I didn't see you" although let's not rely on that as a safety tactic....!

    I think that the No.1 thing about the GS is that it can the be the one and only bike for almost everything you might want to do. Want to go across Europe? You got it. Want to have a bit of offroad fun? It can cope with it pretty easily. Want to hit some b-roads and push it a little more? It will give a smile and you won't shit your pants. And if you take the panniers off and lower your expectations a bit, it can work in an urban environment as well

    • @TheMissendenFlyer

    Absolutely live your videos mate, especially the ones regarding the Mighty GS. This is my dream bike and i absolutely fell in love more with it through your channel and the videos you made about it. Im soon to be 36, never rode motorcycles in my life (always was fascinated by them, tho) and decided to get my drivers licence. Now, that i finally got it, my quest for my first bike begins.
    No, it wont be the GS but at some point of time it will be :)
    Thanks, looking forward to your future videos.
    Question: Would you ever recommend the GS as a beginners bike?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sinisa - so glad you find my videos of interest, thanks for the kind words...much appreciated. Due to it's size and weight I wouldn't recommend the GS as a first bike....would be a great second one though! Congrats on passing your test, if I was in your position I'd buy a second hand 600-800cc bike to start with, live with it for a year and gain confidence, then move on to the mighty GS!

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, tnx for the reply :) And thank you for the congrats :)
      Yup, i was thinking the same thing - i have my eyes on a used Kawasaki zr7 or ER5 maybe as my first bike. Drive it for a season or two then jump onto something serious. Of course, there are always financial questions, but the GS is my goal :)
      Keep it up with the videos and have a nice day!

    Good video I like the BMW's but just curious have you considered the triumph explorer ? I own a tiger 800 and find it to be a very nice bike but never rode a beemer so I can't really compare

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I bought the GS before the big Trumpet was on the scene - it does seem to be a nice bike but more recent comparisons I have read in the press seem to still put the GS ahead of the big Tiger - I think the little 800 is in a class of it's own, a cracking bike by all accounts with that wonderful Triple engine....I'd take one of those over the new Yamaha Tracer any day :0)

    • @Bazza47
      @Bazza47 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why not get yourself down to a BMW dealer and try one mate? the GS sits between the 2 weight wise and has a different character from the triple. The latest Explorer is an improvement on the previous one but cost wise is now closer to the GS. Both are great bikes but which one is better for you only you can decide.

    @onyekaonyia8395 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seeing as you're a Triumph man, I'd suggest you give the latest Explorer 1200 a test ride. I've got the 2015 model and can't really fault it. By all accounts the 2016 version is leaps ahead of it with all the "electrickery" you could ever want. Whether it's better than the GS, as someone else has said here is, something each individual has to decide for him/herself.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest (and as you say I am a Triumph fan so please don't take this the wrong way) - I see the Triumph Explorer as a copy of the GS, as I said in the video, for me I'd rather have the real thing! ...not intending to criticise your choice of bike, just a personal thing... thanks for stopping by - TMF

    • @onyekaonyia8395
      @onyekaonyia8395 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheMissendenFlyer Fair enough. We can't all like the same bikes. Regarding the explorer being a copy, one could argue that all bikes (save perhaps those that are the first of their category) are all copies. I tend to like bikes that are the best at what they do and also fit my budget. I preferred the styling of the Explorer and it fit my budget while doing most of what the GS could... Different strokes for different folks as they say.

    A great pair of videos. I hope I find the GS as comfortable as many say it is. I'd love to hire one to do the West coast of the States. Do you have any longer trips planned at all at the moment? I guess it'd be hush-hush even if you did. I'd love to see you do a decent Euro trip - down to the Med, or similar. I did enjoy your French tour. Keep up the good work! Cheers.

      Thanks Rob - been a busy year flying so not too much chance for bike tours although I do have 4 days put aside next month to go somewhere...not sure where yet Wales/Scotland/Ireland or Europe beckon...depends on what the weather is doing. Stay tuned! Thanks for stopping by once again, all the best - TMF.

      Ah fair dues. Good to hear you've managed to get some flying in. What were you flying out of curiosity, I think your last aircraft's number was up last I heard. I'm keen to get some time on a composite based plane, like a DA40 etc... I hear great things about them. 140kt cruise etc. Beats the Warrior's 90-93kt that's for sure.

      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well you are right and our TB-10 has been scrapped (at least we believed it had but notice in this month's pilot magazine the outfit we sold it too as scrap claim they are going to get it flying again!).....so it's been PA28's for me this year, luckily I have a couple of mates that let me fly theirs, one a Warrior and one a Dakota so I'm keeping current. I flew a DA40 in Canada a couple of years back, great fun...

    • @itzajdmting
      @itzajdmting 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah that's interesting. They're hoping to revive it, eh. Was a pretty good-looking airplane IIRC. Nice, Canada - plenty of good flying to be done over there. Hope to visit Banff and BC one day. Great stuff TMF, thanks for answering my questions, have a great weekend!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it was out of BC (Edmonton) that I flew the DA40 as it happens....also visited Banff/Jasper (all the touristy bits of the Rockies) - would be brilliant to do by bike as well as light aeroplane....

    Greetings from LA!
    thank you so much for these really informative and witty videos.
    I have been riding for two years now. Went from a Yamaha v star 650 to a Yamaha road star 1700 and I'm not a fan. On the freeway the RoadStar is just too loud even with ear plugs and full face helmet. After an hour ride my back kills me even with backrest!
    So I'm going sell both bikes and get a used GS1200. I think the engine noise will be much less and less wind too hopefully. Any specific years you can recommend or anyone else??
    I'm probably looking between 2005-2010 for my budget. Then maybe after a few years save up for a newer model.

      +moondog33 Hi Moondog33....I loved my time riding in LA last year, very envious of you! I think, just go for the newest model you can afford and you won't go far wrong...if you can stretch to a post 2013 liquid cooled model then do so as the bike was transformed with the new engine. Good luck with your search..all the best - TMF

      +TheMissendenFlyer Thanks for the reply and yes LA weather is great for bike riding.
      LA drivers though not so much as most are on their phones completely distracted.
      Will have to check out your LA vids now!
      Thanks for advice on looking for used GS.
      2013 model would be nice - maybe I can find a good deal somewhere across the country and ride back to LA. :)

      +TheMissendenFlyer Cheers for the links,
      I already watched the one of you carving 'The Snake' on Mulholland Highway!
      That's close to where I live - Great scenery and friendly biker culture. Looks like you adapted to the Cali lifestyle very quickly :)
      Btw- Your videos have inspired me to book a GS 1200 demo ride with BMW Burbank next week.
      I can't wait to get rid of my Yamaha Road Star.
      I currently wear a Shoei Qwest Helmet, NoNoise earplugs and anything over 65mph on the freeway is like a pneumatic drill going off inside my head from the engine noise and stock pipes.
      I want to do long 10 hour trips in the saddle to the national parks and I can't take more than 30 mins on the Road Star with the crazy ringing in my ears.
      I think the GS will have the power and comfort without the deafening roar.
      Thanks again for all the great posts.
      I have been watching a few every evening.

    I'm doing a tour of Japan next year with Edelweiss and one of the bikes there offering is the 1200GS (never ridden one) . Now since I'm a short arse and my 1200RS has a lowered seat so i dont do the tippy toe thing, can you do the same with the GS? And in your opinion is this the bike i should be looking at for the 16 day tour?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, sounds a great tour Michael - you can indeed have a low seat on a GS (I have) and as you would expect I would say, it is the ideal bike for such a tour. If it helps I'm 5'8" by the way.......have a fab trip!

    just curious, why did choose this bike over R1200 GSA?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I bought the GS the GSA was still the old model (ie not liquid cooled) + I didn't need the extra fuel tank range or weight and I didn't much like all the scaffolding required to carry panniers - the "standard" GS fits the bill just fine for me....

    Hi, I was wondering, if you have a good relationship with your bow dealer, if you could take a gsa out for a spin and do a comparison? I know there are many reviews of it but I would like your perspective. Cheers

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would love to have a ride on a GSA - I don't really have the type of relationship with my dealer (bar visits once a year for servicing) to just get them to lend me a bike to review, that said, I have wondered about asking them and letting them know that I'm on You Tube and have had several people asking....so you never know...stay tunes regardless just in case!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simon, I have to disagree in that I ALWAYS check my blind spot (or I probably wouldn't be here now!!). I only need to glance my eyes to the mirrors or check over my shoulder and am always aware of what's around me before any overtake, lane change or turn.....so I suspect it's because you don't see any movement of my head or due editing that you've concluded that I don't.....

    At 6:10 you discuss how the Ducati Multistrada is 'Top Heavy'... I have to disagree my friend. I've ridden a 2015 1200GS, and own a 2015 Multistrada, and both bikes are very well balanced. I'm amazed at how 'flickable' the Multistrada is... Very nimble!!! Any bike will tip over if you can't reach the ground.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer

      Just my opinion, I felt much more unstable on the MTS at stand-still than the GS, and yes I am only 5'8" so this may only apply to shorties like me.... Thanks for stopping by once again, all the best - TMF

    • @Ducati_Dude
      @Ducati_Dude 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheMissendenFlyer Agreed that the GS is a tad 'lighter' at a stand-still with it's lower CofG. However, keep the MTS verticle and there is no issue. No disrespect intended my friend... I respect everyones opinion... ✔

      I have the lowered seat fitted and I can get almost flat footed both sides if it's just me on the machine - fully flat footed if I have luggage or a pillion...height isn't an issue on this bike for me (it is on some)...and the balance is so good slow moving traffic or filtering just isn't a problem...
