    Super happy with my Polar watches and ecosystem, sleep and recovery tracking is the best

      So glad you like it! The new Garmin advanced sleep tracking is as good as Polar thankfully, but only comes on a few versions now. Fenix 6, Venu 2, 945 LTE, and 745/945 in beta.

    Btw, thanks for great videos on a really interesting topic. A wear a grit x for the moment. The great sleep tracking and activity tracking with heart rate 24/7 and years of workouts stored on polar flow makes it difficult to leave polar. But a want a recovery score in hours, a better calculaction between hard short excersice and long slow exercise. I feel that there is not a great distinction between them. And I want a ANS-score over the hole day, not just 4 hours at night. Other than that I think Grit x is a great watch althoug the battery drains quite quikly when using wrist HR 24/7.

      An imperfect solution for getting recovery time in Polar is to download the Polar Beat app in addition to Polar Flow. I use a Grit X and when I sync an activity to Flow, I then see a recovery time for the activity in Beat. It's stupid that it has to be done this way, but it's only 5 extra seconds to open the other app at least.

    Thanks for making this video. This really helped with my decision between polar and garmin. I only cycle and do HIIT and never run, so the polar might be the better choice...

      Yes polar takes the cake in load tracking but falls short in a lot of other areas. For me - Garmin offers a ton more value and expansiveness. Thanks!

    Yeah I agree with that. I recently used polar device, polar grit x. Really like that everything is plain English. Garmin is a bit harder definitely. Unfortunately had a default product had to send it back. But there are a few things, missing for me around the polar ecosystem. The sync takes to long. Only 2 types of alarm. Among a few other things.

    I have been looking for this info for a while, thanks for such a great video. You are very right, reviewers online do not delve into the training load feature, which is a core element in a sportwatch. I have a VV (so I am biased, perhaps?) and I find Polar Training Load Pro to be a superior system, especially if one takes takes into account how it is showed in the app and the watch. I just cannot understand why one needs to go running twice for having it displayed in Garmin's watches! What if someone does everything else but running?

    I swear you are mind reader , I’m thinking about a topic and boom you do a video on it ! Don’t usually comment but have to say absolutely brilliant content 👍🏻 , keep it up !
    Personally I use polar V2 for training and sleep and Apple Watch S6 for during the day (as a smart watch i don’t think it can be beaten)
    Really want to love garmin but as you say metrics are buried too deep and for me doesn’t flow, will see what there next release is and probably end up giving it a try !

      That’s great! And I totally agree w the polar/AW6 split. That’s 100% right what you are saying about it. And Garmin is tough because they offer all in one in some ways bc of their capabilities. I just wish they would come out with an AMOLED version with the training analytics on top. Thanks for commenting!

    I saw some video about Garmin Fenix 6X. When you can add Aerobic and Anaerobic training effect as one of 8 data fields which is visible during workout. I hope I'll be able set it up too, because right now on my Huawei GT2 PRO it also shows training effect in real time as it builds up during workout which is super handy and on top of that it GT2 gives you nice voice alerts as you reach certain training effect level, since it has speaker. I also found guided running courses on GT2 PRO excellent, as it gives you many verbal advices how to run properly as you run, in very pleasent human voice. I wondering if Garmin has something similar.

    I like Polar Training Load Pro, but I really miss an recoveryscore articulated in hours. If a go for a easy CX skiing about 2 hours a would get a higher TRIMP-score than a really tough interval workout. To push yourself to the max should be more exhausting than an easy workout for 2 hours (althoung cx skiing never is really easy due to the snow, hills etc). I have had the same experiense with Suunto. It seems that both polar and suunto really can't evaluate hard vs easy workout and express the recovery in hours (I know that you with polar can go with the polar beat to get recovery time). It's more simple than that, it just accumulate heart beats over time. My question to you is, can Garmin evaluate recovery time more reliable and accurate than polar?

    • @NoxDineen
      @NoxDineen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Recovery time in hours is still given in Polar Beat. I just sync my Grit X to Polar Flow, then open Beat (wait for it to sync/download your latest workout).

    Like the design and feel of the garmin much more but I really struggle with having to do the 10 min run. Why cant garmin use data from a footpod to calculate VO2 max. Something like Stryd seems to be at least as accurate as GPS data? Particular during lockdown I think this would have been relevant

      @@eleftheriazigiri8403 yes completely. And that’s why the running VO2 is so good - you consistently do it! I however - do not haha. And yes - so many factors with each, but Garmin’s new sleep tracking closes the gap on polars - so it’s a more distant second for Polar now I feel.

    Hi, In new watches as fenix 7 and forrunner 955 are some new stuff as Training Status. Can you update your opinion in this video to compare this new feature with accompanying of Garmin Training Load Tracking vs Polar’s Training Load Pro ?

    Does training load register all activities, such are strength training, swimming or custom workouts that you do throughout the week

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Any time you’re recording a workout it will track exertion via heart rate, and will flow through to training load. Thanks!

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Conor Judge no! Sorry for the confusion. It measures everything in full, but the two 5 minute runs activate the ‘training status’ label of undertraining, overtraining, etc - and that is based on all activities.

  • @EszterOSzabo
    @EszterOSzabo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video! Quick question, if I do not run at all (I would do it initially to get the stats but probably never again) would that mean that the training status would just say no status all the time (meaning I could not basically use this function)? Thanks

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! And thank you. You have to run at least once a week for five minutes using the run profile to keep the training status populated. Technically you’ll get all of the load tracking and statistics even if you don’t, but it won’t tell you if you are over training or under training, etc, it will just list it as no status. Thanks!

    So in Garmin you have to run to be able to see it? Does the rest of workouts affect this metric?

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it’s somewhat more simple than that. They base some of their recommendations on your VO2 max score, which needs to be taken periodically, at least once a week. This helps determine your fitness level to a degree and therefore how much strain you can place on your heart. But all of the load tracking and recovery times and training effect measures operate independently of all of this, so no VO 2 max score is needed

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey - great question. You can only get the metrics if you own a polar watch, but technically you don’t have to use it. You can just pair the chest strap to polar beat app and when it syncs with polar flow it will calculate the metrics, but the metrics aren’t turned on unless there’s a watch on your polar flow profile.
