Thank you for this excellent video. I have finished the cinder block stand base and am about to embark on the structural slab forming and pour.

Great videos. I'm learning a lot. Just poured my foundation slab and purchased CMU blocks. Thank you

Excellent video for the rest of us amateurs getting ready to take similar projects on. My only question is regarding the weep holes on the slab. Where would those go and why? I’ve seen nothing on it in all the materials and videos I’ve watched. Thanks

I briefly covered this in my video found here. Short version is you need 3 weep hole under your firebrick floor. I chose to drill them out after the slab pour. For this, I used a hammer drill with a 3/8” bit and it went through the concrete easily. I just chose 3 locations roughly evenly distributed and just made sure I wasn’t going to hit the rebar in the slab. th-cam.com/video/wk6TxMP30nM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dSqqhUlt7Ek7lDuU

Your calc for weight of the slab at 19x80 is not accurate. Gotta add water weight as well. Looks great. Keep it up!

I actually cut the forum out underneath the concrete slab to fit the space with the intention of removing it when I had finished. That was 4 months ago. That form is still in place and will be forever. 😂 I cannot get it out.
Over engineered is the route I have gone down through my process of the build. So much so that I can safely say the base for my oven could easily double up as a bomb shelter. 💪

Yessir this video is really helpful to me! Just subscribed, can't wait for the next one to upload. Did you use anything to seal the center, corners and sides before you pour the cement? Or it's not necessary. Thanks!

Glad you found the vide helpful! I did not use anything to see any of the gaps. Any gaps I had were no more than 1/8". You want your concrete mix to be somewhat stiff(but workable) to ensure strength. The cement board in the center will sit pretty flat on the blocks and any gaps in the framing isn't really large enough for much concrete to escape. If I had any large gaps of 1/4" or more, I might caulk those first.

Hi, when is the next Pizza Oven video? I'm interested on how you do the weep/drain holes in the slab. Thanks

I am in the process of trying to get caught back up with the videos. In short, I drilled 3/8" holes through the concrete slab and set mosaic tiles upside down and then laid the insulation board on that. On the bottom side of the slab, I used screen mesh held in place with silicone to cover the holes. This prevents bugs from getting into the drain holes.

Did you use Quickrete mortar for the pour?

I used the Quickrete 5000psi concrete mix for this this pour. It worked very well.

@@blood_sweat_and_beers Very nice!! I'm getting started on the same build! I can follow your pattern. I'm probably just going with stucco but will see how yours turns out : )
How large of a landing are you going with? I think I'm doing a simple brick landing. Subscribed.
