    The cheap rubber is a big improvement actually it helps mitigate the external light in the room. That’s the only viable option we have to feel like you are in the game without catching a side glimps of your lights in room. And not only that, this is the first headset that doesn't hurt my face due to that design choice, and I think that was the other thing they had in mind when designing it. Think about all the other headsets and how they have thicker material you have to really push up against your face to block out the light, so after some time your face starts hurting. This one is way more comfortable with the way it sits higher up on your forehead and nothing pressing against the face, fantastic design!

      @@jeffreyjohnson5823 VR and AR are completely different topics. In VR you are completely enclosed in a virtual world similar to a 2D flat game. That's what most gamers want not to see their reality but fantastic, immersive worlds with fun gameplay mechanics. AR is dependent on reality e. g. playing a board game down-scaled diorama battle chess or augmenting your flat with objects and wall textures, but very limited in terms of a certain environment if you think of a big first-person game like Resident Evil or Horizon, which would not be possible or fun in AR.

    Hey Wood, just wanted to throw in that one benefit for gesture based controls in VR is that they reduce motion sickness! It's helpful because your brain has a physical motion to relate to the motion it sees in the headset. When the motion is caused by something more passive like pushing an analog stick, you're more likely to get sick. Over time you can certainly get used to the latter though.

    I don't think it feels cheap. I think the materials and design was intentional to make it light and comfortable. Initially it felt like it put too much pressure on my nose but I soon figured out how to get the headset sitting comfortably.
    As many others have mentioned I wouldn't bother with the stereo ear buds. Use the Pulse Headset.
    Also, relative to competitors with this kind of hardware, its not expensive. I'm glad they went for a higher end hardware and higher cost. I wouldn't have bothered with it otherwise. The quest 2 isn't really the same market in my opinion.
    Although I've tried various VR headsets I've never bought into it because the price, hardware and game availability wasn't where I wanted it. PSVR2 ticks my boxes with price and hardware so I'm going to support it and hopefully the games will come. I also hope the product is successful so we get more VR games across all hardware.

      The playstation vr (and now 2) is the most forward-pushing and revolutionary headset you can buy. They are changing the entire market and the future of VR. It's a well-worth purchase and I highly recommend getting it because they are bringing top-quality games to it and will continue to make them.
      In all reality, software updates and the games make a VR headset real, not the hardware.
      Although the hardware is very good, the games make the price very bearable.

      I feel conflicted with it. On one hand, it's worth the price of admission just for Resident Evil: Village(It's THAT incredible, with Moss: Book 2 coming in second place for me personally.), including the upcoming Resident Evil 4: VR Mode, possible Astro Bot Rescue mission sequel(or port) etc. But i just can't get past being tethered to a cable in 2023. It's that immersion breaking barrier that practically destroys stand up VR imo. That, and it's using a high persistence display. Meaning, in order to get decent brightness it sacrifices motion clarity.
      The higher you raise the VR brightness slider the more head movement motion blur you'll get, which is the last thing you wan't in VR. We're supposed to be preventing motion sickness, not creating it. Quest 3 has a 1ms persistence(Zero motion blur) at at least 100nits, which spanks what the PSVR2 is cooking. For best motion clarity on PSVR2, drop the VR brightness down to zero, you'll get a 2ms persistence @60nits. Won't be viable for most people though since the image is too dim and bleak at that setting. The 4th point gets you to 110nits, comparable to Quest 2, but with noticeably more head movement blur with PSVR2. Double edged sword. I think most people will be able to find a happy medium though.
      I also can't stand the bulky cumbersome ring'd controllers, small sweet spot, chunky fat front visor and it's not as comfortable as the PSVR1 either. it's a little front-heavy or harsh around the nose, you'll start to really feel it at about 30 minutes. Sony shot themselves in the foot with this thing, aesthetically, and when it comes to some of it's feature/design choices. We already need a revision, stat!. :P Here's what I'd like to see >
      Wireless to PS5 connection

    The PSVR2 actually feels like a premium product, if you watch the official PSVR2 breakdown video they dismantle the whole headset into its constituent parts, its a miracle of engineering and weighs less than the original 2016 PSVR, I am glad Sony built this headset because if one of the big PCVR or Meta HMD manufacturers produced it they would be asking a lot more money for it, just look at the $1500 Quest Pro for instance and that does not even have OLED-HDR displays.

    • @scottd7222
      @scottd7222 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yea I'm so confuses about people complaining about price. It's plug and play. PSVR1 you needed to buy the move controllers and Camera separately and it was outdated on arrival. This is 600 dollars for top end VR.

    • @techinfusions
      @techinfusions ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@scottd7222 That is the thing, and then they also bemoan the fact that it has a cable connected to the PS5, but they do not tell us how big of a battery they would be willing to except in a wireless PSVR2 that could power it for meaningful lengths of play time before a recharge is required, it would need to be a very powerful battery.
      Then there is the unknown effects of attaching a high powered wireless streaming VR headset to your head for several hours while you play a game streamed from the PS5, there is still a thing about holding mobile phones to your head for long periods of time, I just think a thin cable tethered to the headset is the best and safest option until battery technology makes a big leap forward.

    • @jsteezus
      @jsteezus ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@techinfusions NON IONIZING RADIATING IS SAFE. Aka wifi signals and other radio signals. The real reason for the cable is because you just cant pump a 4k image at 120 FPS with HDR and all the data about the position of the controllers, headset, eye tracking, etc through wireless. I mean you could technically run some VR headsets wireless, but you really need god tier wifi and even then you will suffer from compressed video signals that won’t look as nice. Most people wouldn’t have the wifi infrastructure to support even a blocky, artifacty video signal. Sony wants to make sure everyone has a good baseline level of experience and thats why I believe they went wireless. Battery Is easy to solve, as you can add a battery to get 2 hours or so of battery life that doesn’t take up much space or weigh a lot, and because its VR most people have to take a break after 30 minutes to an hour anyway. So real reason for cable is to send all that high resolution video at 120 frames per second with no latency.

      The reason why its uncomfortable for him is because the rear of the halo band is almost parallel to the front of the headset. The rear of the halo band should be lower so it can distribute the weight correctly. From watching the vid its most likely due to his man bun, he could style his bun a little higher so the rear of the halo band can actually rest in the lower part of the back of the head.

      You should give Moss: Book 2 a chance, it's another brilliant VR show case and probably my second favorite PSVR2 title next to Resident Evil Village, which is the number one reason to own a PSVR2, and the same thing will probably apply to the upcoming Resident Evil 4: VR Mode. Incredible stuff, Capcom out did themselves. My only beef with it, is that it doesn't run at 90fps since the PS5 just isn't powerful enough. Maybe the PS5 Pro can get the job done, once it releases in winter 2024. For now, we have to deal with the dreaded motion duplication effect from 60 reprojection.
      And I wish they'd port over 'Ocean Descent' from PSVR Worlds on PSVR1(Shark dive was amazing and an absolute blast to show off to friends and family. PSVR2 doesn't seem to have any theme park VR-like attractions unfortunately.) . An Astro Bot Rescue Mission port would be also fantastic, including Half Life Alex and Resident Evil 7.

Being the backseat driver yelling out helpful hints or snark adds a couch co-op vibe. The game library is set to rapidly expand this year so it’s definitely worth considering, especially if you like hyper realistic style graphics and immersive/RP adventure games. Thanks for sharing your review of the PSVR2! It sounds like an impressive piece of technology. Back in my day, we were lucky if we had a simple joystick to play with.
    Interestingly enough, I was having a chat with Doctor Hermann the other day, down in the morgue. He was telling me about how he used to love playing video games in his younger days, but he had to stop because they made his arthritis act up. Doctor Hermann recommended that I look into the PSVR2, though, because he said that the headset's advanced motion tracking and hand controllers might actually be easier on the joints than traditional gaming controllers.
    I have to admit, I was skeptical at first, but it's certainly something to consider. Of course, I'm not sure if my reflexes are still up to par for gaming, but I'm intrigued! It reminds me of that time I tried one of those old View-Masters as a kid, where you could look at pictures in 3D. I bet this PSVR2 thing is like that, but even better!

      @@wdbisl you can’t call it expensive when its literally the cheapest option for high quality VR. It’s not trying to be a Quest 2

      To each their own. But for context, more than 100 games have already been announced for the PSVR2...and it's been less than one week since launch.

    The psvr2 is $549.99 without call of the mountain. This tech is amazing and as long as the catalog builds with great titles over time. Which I believe it will. This is the new top dog in VR category and at a great price point for the tech. Also pulse headphones rule with this

    as someone who owns psvr2 this is a VERY accurate depiction of what its like playing. you HAVE to have a headset vs the earbuds they give you. the headset does hurt my head and so much so i havent had the controllers die on me cuz i get a headache first. but the games are gorgeous and its a lot of fun and if you have a spare $600+ then you should definitely get it. its absolutely amazing so much fun

    I'll agree with you that the headset feels a bit cheap compared to other headsets (even the OG PSVR), but I think that's to cut down on weight. I agree on the audio as well. As much as I see it as a neat little solution physically, I hate in ear solutions and liked the speaker solution on the quest 2. The pulse ear phones do really fit well with the headset though (and they're wireless), but of course that's more money. The tech inside the headset is not cheap by any means - if you were to buy the eye tracking on it's own, it would set you back over $200. So, add to that the OLED displays, the haptics in both the headband and the controllers (which would/will probably be well over $100 on their own) and suddenly it doesn't look so expensive. Just a recommendation for the halo headband, you said it's hurting your head, which would indicate to me that you're tightening it too much........which is understandable considering your long hair. My daughter had real problems getting the headset to stay in the right position (especially with the sweet spot being so narrow on this headset) until I told her to try putting the back of the headband under her long hair. It was a bit fiddly to start with (putting her hair through the band before her head) but it solved the problem completely and she hardly had to tighten it at all. The easier alternative would of course be to have a high pony tail and put the back of the headband under it (it looked like you had a little pony tail at one point in the video, but the back of the headband was above it)

    The original VR is actually still one of the most successful headsets on the market. Probably only beaten by quest 2

      It's a little counter-intuitive because you want to play a lot when you first get a headset, but you really should ease into VR slowly to avoid getting motion sickness. I started with just 15 minute sessions and then slowly worked myself up to get my VR legs.

    From what I have heard pairing the PS5 pulse 3d headset with the psvr2 completes the whole thing it brings it to a new level. It helps audio and makes the psvr2 sit on the head better and snugger. It makes one Complete vr helmet.

    I had the same problem of the rubber rubbing my brow and causing pain. I then seen this recommendation for the halo strap on the PSVR2 on another channel. The back of the halo strap should be placed at the base of the back of your skull where your skull meets your neck. if you do this the weight/pressure is spread across you forehead instead on your brow. Also the earbuds store into those star cutouts on the halo strap.

    If you have a pulse 3d headset you can use them. I use my surround sound or my 7p headset to play for better audio than the ear buds. They clip in the Ys when not being used.

      What VR devices have you tried? PSVR1 for example is low res and is expected to give you a headache. Something like the Meta Quest 2 is much higher res, allows you to adjust the IPD, has better tracking, and is affordable - starting at $400. Not all VR is made the same. I totally admit that VR isn’t for everyone - but calling it a failed concept is incredibly ignorant.

    I swore the site said it'd be wireless but I'm probably just wrong but I was disappointed still. It was blurry for me and the secondary grip button was annoying to hold for the instrument I was playing in the Galaxy's Edge demo. Resolution is nice. Not enough games yet.

    One thing I had to look up is the little rubber grommets on the side of the headset. They're little places to stick the earbuds when you're not wearing them. It makes it a lot less messy looking when you set the headset down.

    I have the wireless “Pulse 3D” headset. I keep the stupid earbuds plugged in and stick them in those holders on the back in case my Pulse set runs out of battery. And yeah… I bought the charging dock for the controllers and they need it. When fully charged they get about 4 hours, and that’s plenty for most of my VR sessions but they basically have to be charging whenever they are not in use.

    When I got mine i didn't realise how light it was like it felt a bit cheap. But after using it for a while it's pretty good. I don't like how VR games do the snap turning so i turn it off for more fluid turning while walking and climbing.

    Lovin' the new content. I still have and love my Switch but like you I've moved on a little now, playing it less and less. Right now, Aya Neo 2, Steam Deck and Series X (including PC Gamepass) are my main areas of play. Fingers crossed for a breath of life into the Switch with a new model.
