As a owner of a Street Demon I can say they do operate quite nicely. I'm running a 92 Chevy truck, 4.3 V6, Isky roller cam, 98 Vortec heads, HEI, 5 speed, 3.42 posi. Since my intake is a single plane design, the low end isn't as good as it could be with regular driving. But at wide open throttle the torque is so strong it's incredible. My only complaint about it is it don't like to return to full idle, it sticks open slightly. Adjusting the choke didn't cure it either.
Glad to see someone doing a little tuning on this carb. I bought one soon after they came out, and never got it running right. I finally took it off and put on an Edelbrock while I was at our nationals, then rebuilt it when I got home. When I disassembled it, I found some plastic, resin-like substance in one of the float bowls. Only one, mind you. It was some sort of plastic that must have been some part of the casting/polishing process. I removed that, and then had trouble with one side of the new gasket slipping out of place, which apparently jammed the float and caused it to overflow gasoline into a cylinder. I found the gasket problem when I finally got around to disassembling it again. In reassembling it, I found that the air flap valve was hanging up. I ended up having to trim the hinge side and around the center cutout so that it could move freely. Now...how can I tell if the secondary air valve is properly adjusted?
i have always heard to adjust the idle mix with the air cleaner on , it changes the air flow just enough to make a difference, but love the video keep them coming !
Great overview thanks Chuck. These Street Demons seem to be the "new Q-jet" . And I am saying that in a good way. Also the TPS option is an excellent feature!
Adrian Pillow New Q-jet? Hardly. It has no primary metering rods which really make it a precise fuel mixing machine. My q-jet 350 runs cleaner than any computer controlled fuel injected vehicle.
hey chuck this chevelle is nice. i watch alot of your vids . i like how this runs bc its close to what i have. 350 sbc with a saginaw 4 speed and 2.29 gears
Very good vid Chuck. I miss my 70 Chevelle. Btw, all you guys putting down the carb and comparing to older carbs, it's called making improvements to something that works good and Holley made some excellent improvements. Also if you're complaining about a spread bore intake.......get real. If you are building for performance, even just street performance, get with the program. Spread bore is worthless. If they were worth a damn, a Dominator would be spread bore. But what do I know? The engines I build daily are just lowly 4 digit hp (1,000hp+) drag race and pulling truck motors.
Hi Chuck I saw some of your videos on your Chevelle build with the LS. I am doing the same type of build on my 1981 Corvette. I wanted to know if you can send me a copy of the engine build list so it can be easier for me to do. My LS came out of a 04 Tahoe 5.3L.
yea but i think BG (berry grant, i think) has since bought it back , if memory serves me right he did not like how the company was going so he got it back
The Street Demon will not fit on an Edelbrock spreadbore intake. As far as I got was bolting the carb down and trying to hook up the PCV line from the PCV valve to the 3/8" barb on the rear of the carburetor. This barb lies directly in front of the manifold vacuum boss. This boss comes from the factory with a screw in adapter that holds 2 small vacuum lines. There isn't nearly enough room to route the PCV hose to the barb on the carb. The adapter is in the way. Not pleased about this.
andybill402 i had the same issue. But i did get my pvc hose on. It was a very tight fit but it did go on. I had a spacer on with no problem but i took it off an had to go through this last weekend. But just note it will go on, being a rubber hose an s little force
The really amazing thing would have been if he found anything not cool or neat about the carb. Barry Grant was the name of the of the founder and company Demon was the name of his line of carbs
yo chuck, it's not a clean sheet design, it's a 1969 Carter Thermoquad, that Holley calls a Demon, after they drove Barry Grant out of business, and stold his company during bankruptcy
this WILL NOT fit a factory spreadbore manifold. Really pisses me off demon that's part of why I bought this carb. You guys claim it takes 20 minutes to install well not if you have to swap intakes. Very unhappy.
Old school carbureted guys are a dying breed, really great to see a guy who knows how to accurately tweak a carb.

Looks like an excellent cruiser carburetor. 🇺🇸🏁
Hey Chuck what was that at 7:27, wrong tool for the job.
Ya, That was fake. Lame.
Ha , good catch. That's funny - "Fake Tools"

So, did that final adjustment help the hesitation?

I know I have to put a fuel pressure reducer to replace it with a 2 barrel with the adapter plate but is it possible?
And what about the kick-down linkage for a two speed powerglide ? Will it work on this carb ?
When are you coming back chuck?
On a SBC 350 where does the PCV valve connect to on the carb?
It goes in back correct? I was gonna choose first inlet from passenger side of carb. Lemme know if found out. Thanks
Isn't this the guy from HotRod TV?
Yep

On a 340 all stock. Can you put a bigger street demon 750 cfm as opposed to 625cfm?
Chryslers are garbage get a real engine
I got a racing demon carb gonna install it in my 68buick riviera 455 bored its a monster
the Q-jet and carter thermoquad = street demon
Stephen SetteDucati
BG file for Bankruptcy and holley bought the BG line from what I understand
Carter Thermoquad design
Thanks

what rpm were the secondaries kicking in?
Thats going to depend on a million things. Tire size, transmission, gear ratio...
My street demon 750 was fatter than 8:1 out of the box. The jet kit was very necessary. Plugs fouled in 10 mins lol
The really amazing thing would have been if he found anything not cool or neat about the carb. Barry Grant was the name of the of the founder and company Demon was the name of his line of carbs
Did Edelbrock buy Speed Demon????
He'll no edelbrocks are shitty
I'm surprised that the road in front of his shop isn't covered is rubber.
He says nothing about the speed idle screw that carb Wil not idle low right out the box it has to be adjusted
I think Holley did.
love you Chuck but I caught you not really ratcheting nut on carb lol
Holley bought demon carburetors
I Think Ford Small blocks Produce a meaner sound than sbc.
Thermo quad had the plastic body, Q-jet did not.
Shit man.... I think ima get it. $289 here in denver
Yep, reincarnated Thermoquad.
in a 79 monte carlo that i built myself
Nothing but a remake of a thermoquad.
George Jr im not complaining
dooh socket wasent even on but then again ya cant get at it with a socket
too little info on adjustments
LS1/T56>SBC/4spd

Roy What was the fitment issue? Was the secondary hitting the intake divider?
