  • I wonder if start and stop system really makes a difference in fuel saving..
So i did a test,i drive a 15km route with congested traffic and on highway..What is the conclusion ? Use start and stop or just let the machine idle ? See the video and comment on the results...Ford Ecoboost Hybrid

15 cents of fuel saved in 15km of semi heavy traffic. Hmm. As far as i remember an engine starter costs around 120 euros for these cars. And starting the engine around 50 times in a 15km journey puts extensive stress on the starter... I prefer to spend 15cents and extend the lifespan on that starter by 20x
EDIT: It's 120 Euro just for the starter, NOT including the mechanics labour!!!

Don't forget that this is a mild hybrid. Which means it has got a massive and strong starter which can also support the engine while driving (about 40nm torque extra). I don't think it will go bad much earlier in comparison to a regular engine starter without start/stop.

@@MrNiek didn't know this car is mild hybrid!!! But if its a petrol car with start stop then I would never use it.

The one I’m looking at has digital dash.
      The others do not.
Plus I didn’t notice this running on electric only in slow moving traffic . It just start , stop the engine. The engine was still need to be able to love forward .

@@mark-1rc502 mild hybrid is not able to move the car..its only assisting it when you need to accelerate.uts more supportive .... The editions differs...I think ST Line -X has digital dashboard.
