Darkthrone is the ultimate band when it comes to exploring simple riffs. Truly masters of creativity. Great playing! Wish I had these videos when I was a beginner
How simple these riffs are is a testament to Darkthrone's greatness. These songs are all iconic and stick in your heard forever yet no one else came up with them.
Glad i stumbled on your channel, cant wait to get a guitar again! Always played Ramones songs and learned through them, but i wanna dive into learning my favorite black metal riffs. I love how something so heavy can sound relaxing at the same time
Just jumped back into playing 3 weeks ago (10 years since I last played) and picked up your Black Metal crash course on Udemy. Thanks for the content you put out Simon. So far I've gotten through Lost Wisdom, Quintessence, Freezing Moon, and a few others with your help. Forgot how much fun and how rewarding it is to just learn something new! I was curious if you could recommend a book for beginners on practical music theory as it relates to guitar?
Thanks for this video! and the Tabs! I just recently got into darkthrone, and recently started learning guitar (been playing bass for 18 years) and this will help a lot! Thank you! what do you think of eternal hails? I fuckin love it
Simon thanks for not playing 'Transylvanian hunger'! That's become the BM stairway to heaven, and will probably be banned in guitar shops. The forbidden riff!
Hi Dude ! Thank you for that new tutorial very accessible. Could you make the same thing for Watain one day or some riffs from their last album The Agony and The Ecstasy of Watain, please ?
Maybe you can help me a tad. I am confused when it comes to black metal tuning. Like when I was younger and was learning Venom songs it was eazy to tell it was either D or C#. But with Mayhem, Burzum, Dark Throne, Dimmu, Cradle Of Filth, Bathory. The tuning just baffles me.
1:49 Such an underrated riff. That bend just adds such flavor.

Agreed! Dark, melodic yet simple riffs.
Amen! Some of their riffs make me want to give up writing my own, so stupid simple and absolutely unbeatable. TRRRRIUMPHANT GLEEAM!!

bro
The opening track on Hate Them, Rust is super simple and yet groovy and atmospheric.
Yrstet I livet has a good simple riff at the beginning. The whole album is underrated.
@@johngavin1175 Yeah, i totally agree. I feel like nobody talks about that album.
In The Shadows of the Horns is one of the greatest Darkthrone songs. They seem to sound even better when slowing the tempo.
I never realized how 80s traditional metal sounding many of their riffs are.
Красавчик! Не пропадай на долго, заскучал по приятным рифам 🤘🏻🔥
I love all of your Darkthrone Lessons/Demonstrations, Simon! Thanks!!!!
Cheers bro!
Love Cromlech - one of the catchiest examples of the full tone scale.

To Walk The Infernal Fields to me sounds like it should be in 4/4 with a triplet feel, but that's my musical nerd coming out again. Great video.
Hail Darkthrone! Really good video, thank you!!!
@kill the weak facts

And it’s not even that good a riff. First half of it sure, but the last bit always felt flat
Love your channel, please do more obituary!
You are the best!! 🤘

what did you use to achieve the tone? it sounds killer man
Thanks mate! Two Amp Sims (Nalex Pectifier) and Nick Crowe 6505 clone, and a mic in front of an Orange Jim Root Dark Terror through a Laney IRT212.
Hans Siste Winter?..

Ugh, some Burzum songs are even almost F standard, but I don't remember any Burzum song below E standard
@@brenomordida thank you. Venom was easy to get tuning wise. But thanks about Burzum.
Plus lol Varg used such low quality recording and a 10w amp for the guitar parts of his early stuffs

Какая песня играет на заднем фоне в начале видео? 🐈⬛

💀💀 🤘
здесь должна была еще быть Quintessence
And Transylvanian hunger not easy))?
Yea
I like their riffs because it took E standard to a new level of creativity in simple riffs just adding the black metal horrid production to it
Absolutely
Дякую за відео! !!🤘🤘🤘
give us marduk!
А что у них есть сложные рифы?!
А что они обязаны быть сложными что-бы нравится?
How my cord Abramelin band is not easy for some people...
I want to hear transilvanian hanger riff but i didn't hear it
