    The Sony rep lies right from the beginning. The LG he is using is not a 2016 model, but the 2015 EF9500 model. I should know, I have that tv and that is the base that the 2015 EF9500 uses. If he is going to lie from the start, there is absolutely no way you can believe anything he says from that point on.

      Greetings,i agree when i visit stores i request the remotes and change all settings to suit my daily viewing needs.its so patronising that companies think consumer loves vivd settings i hate that setting.the human eye would prefer natural characteristics.i own a pioneer flag ship plasma for 10 years and it looks fabulous compare sony lg .i recently had a look at lg oled and asked to see a video on my usb the picture did look astonishing but slightly let down on the black detail lost. there should be a wider gamma curve setting which i feel is key to show hidden detail in my opinion.:)

      even the 2016 models are extremely dim. HDR is the future of TV and without brightness you don't get it.

      I second that notion, Christopher: the television that the Sony rep is demonstrating against is the 2015 LG OLED (65EF9500), because I have the exact same TV, too.
      I would like to see an UNBIASED review with the 2016 G6P or E6P vs the Sony Z9D. The G6P (and E6P, which are the same panel) has higher nits than the EF9500.
      The Sony sounds promising, but still cannot display perfect blacks. And trust me, when I play DOOM or Last of Us the black levels on the EF9500 blow the doors off of conventional LED...

    This isn't an accurate comparison on Sony's end. If they're going to compare, they should do a 2016 model with a 2016 model, not a 2016 Sony UHD with a 2015 OLED; LG's recently made vast improvements to the brightness of OLED TVs this year, having personally gotten to sit and game and watch HDR content on the new E6 OLED and the Sony X850D respectively. Both are quite close in my opinion, but there's just no comparing with OLED's true blacks, zero motion blur because there is no backlight and lower input latency than then X850D.

      The OLED in the video is a 2016 HDR model. The EF 9500 didn't have that shape of base on the tv stand like the 2016 ine

      Which one? The B and C (?) series have a lower quality panel from my understanding. The E and G are the high range ones. You can easily see if it is one of the latter two. I have the E series and the tv in the video is not an E or G series.

    I'm amused.....HDR TVs compared but no HDR material being used (the LG will display a pop up whenever HDR is detected, I didn't see a single pop up). Guy saying HDR is all about brightness when it's actually all about 'contrast' which requires less brightness when you're not making up for grey blacks. He clearly believes it too because he thinks there is some HDR benefit without actually using HDR content. The classic was when claiming the bit rate of one video was too high for the LG to handle while the Sony was eating it up. Clearly the limitation was not the TV but rather the USB device used. The halo affect on the Sony logo at the end of the demos on the LED says it all. I agree the Sony is very good but it still suffers from the underlying limitations of back lighting. Be nice if they compared a 2016 OLED too but of course that would be unfair to the Sony 2016 ;)

      spot on, I sell these sets for a living and I can say from playing with them myself the sony is a great tv, HDR has only become available to the new 2016 Models, the oled being used is 2015 no HDR, put it against the 2016 LG G6, and you have the best picture in the world. :)

      IF you sell these tv's for a living, I'll need to bypass your shop pal, as I have this LG 2015 tv and, as has already been said by someone above, it is the EF950v, which IS HDR compliant!

    • @RealKanashii

      LG 55EG920V is also HDR (as EF950v and the new panel on EG960v which LG exchange if you request it). These 3 set are not HDR "Premium" though, only the 2016 series.

    Thought the 2015 4K lg oleds had a software upgrade to receive HDR through streaming or usb but not HDMI. On vivid that oled is pretty bright way to bright to watch normal tv anyway + more importantly the contrast levels are surely better on oled due to perfect blacks.

    Just came back from Harvey Norman store and compared most LG and Samsung and Sony, took 3 of my brothers in with me and the Sony X930D has a very crisp picture, color's are very clean and real. and the blacks are not bad at all, we watched them for a good 30 minutes, different scene's , motor sport was very smooth, after reading a lot of negative comments on here about this TV, I do suggest to go and have a good look at the picture quality, it might shock you.with what I have read the only issue is the 3D, on them is out of sync and bent frames, also bad bleeding on some defected models.I have seen a lot of TV's and all have there issues, but this TV is far from being called a bad TV, in my opinion( and my brothers), clean crisp picture, really what more can you expect from a TV.just my 2 cents

  • @srvuk
    @srvuk 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Whilst I could clearly see more detail on the HDR set on the whole, quite a lot was also washed out and with a far greater loss of some detail where green was concerned. Being the default settings though, I would hope that some settings could be altered to match some of the better aspects of the OLED display.

    ABL is still in use and seems to be more agressive on the 2016 OLEDs so part of this comparision with brightness levels will not change even in HDR mode on the new OLEDs.
    the LCDs are still much brighter overall as seen here.
    peakbrightness is one thing and full field white brightness is another
    OLEDs cant go much higher than 100 cd/m2 for a white field.
    there you have the problem with the OLEDs and why they look much dimmer in bright scenes.

    So I have the Sony X930c and who the fuck can actually watch anything in vivid? Great for showing maximum brightness but man is it a color crush overload. I have my settings so completely calibrated different. Honestly if the OLED wouldnt of been double the cost and 10 inches smaller i'd of gotten it for the better blacks as I prefer those more than the higher whites and brightness but the Sony is the best value.

    • @MrWalker1000
      @MrWalker1000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LCD has nearly the same if not better black levels. you're not missing out on much LCD lasts longer and has better colros and HDR capability brings otu the shadow details where as OLED is way too black.

    4:42 see the halo effect on the knife edges and later on the Sony logo? Unavoidable in an edge lit LED TV. This turns out to be a great advertisement for the OLED. He should have focused on the positives of the Sony which has some great features instead of putting down the LG. For example, the brightness, input lag, no burn in, android platform, HDR, cost of ownership etc.

      I'm sorry the Sony blew this Oled tv away, on the Oled the picture quality looked like a painting in most scenes especially the scenes with high dynamic range showing the sky, sun rays etc. Remember u r watching this from a recording off a camera which clearly couldn't handle the highlights of the Sony clearly. The Sony had far better dynamic range and far better natural colours and overall better performance. I can just imagine watching this live, the difference will be so clear. I'm sure that's either a Samsung or lg tv. Oled is just hardware, it's what the manufacturer does with the tuning and calibration that counts and Sony has proved time and time again they are the masters. The koreans just have better marketing and push cheaper prices for similar specked tvs.

How the f can LG release a top of the line TV that just can't handle high motion? Samsung was not in the contest due to past issues. I got the XD93 55". Half of my estimated budget. Hi there,
      What do you think of the 55X930D HDR 4K TV now you have had it, how is the upscaling, colour depth... I am looking to get a new TV soon. Looking between the Panasonic CX802, Sony XD930 and the OLED but what puts me of OLED is even though blacks are really inky, the greyscale (contrast through whites greys) not as good. Also, motion looks like its not good judder was awful when i tested in store. Thinking about the Sony as it has the Slim Backlight Drive system which Sony uses this year + the 4K X1 chip. Good value too.

    • @drjd2real
      @drjd2real 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have judder because LG sucks at making the motion effect work properly, and a lot of people turn off the Trumotion setting. I have an LG 4k and it can't handle fast motion with the Trumotion turned on. I guess LG doesn't care? I think they sell a bunch of defective tv's imo. Sony and Samsung have the best motion effect.

      I have the 2015 Sony X850C, and am thinking of going for the 2016 Samsung KS8000 for HDR since it does reach well over 90% of DCIP3 and has a peak brightness of around 1400 nits; the Sony has about 89-90% DCIP3 and only tops out at about 285 nits, which is terrible for HDR viewing, even though it can read the signal, just too dark when viewing. One of the biggest things holding me back is the Android TV is just so damn perfect! I can literally play SNES, PS1 and GBA games FROM MY TV with the emulators in their cut down Play Store. As a matter of fact, the ONLY app I'm missing that I actively use on Android TV is FunimationNow!, but I can either Chromecast that from phone, or see if FUnimation cares to add support since they're doing a lot of changes. I know I can buy a Shield TV and get the Android Store that way, but it being stock on Sony TV's is a game changer, literally putting webOS, TIzen and all other TV OS' to shame. Actually, the Amazon Video app does not work on Android TV by default, but it DOES work and come out of box on the Sony Android TV's because of a deal they made. Decisions, decisions.

      Exactly, if you need a TV to watch out in the middle of direct sunlight, an LCD on Vivid mode is the way to go... But if you plan on watching your TV indoors like a normal person, at normal brightness, OLED will deliver a superior picture every time.

    • @therealDannyVasquez

      You don't have to turn the brightness all the way up. These tvs just have a greater number of tones between white and dark and a broader color palette.
      If you don't know what any of that means, notice how well your eyes render shadows and variations of color compared to your tv.

Wen selecting which source u want it gives you 1 and a half seconds to choose ie hdmi pc av etc so if you haven't chosen on 1 half second u have to go through the sauce selection again it also gets very hot and the glare from the sun even through light curtains is terrible that said its still the best tv we have owned and worth the 2k we paid and the new curtains look great

    BS, that´s an old TV selling trick, get tv or monitor brighter with some small contrast/brightness equalization engeneering, so then... BANG! TV looks amazing coz shows averything in dark scenes, but at sunny photos it bursts out! i have a Benq 2240he, it´s amazing, although it has this super brightness system awsome for real colorful ocean stuff coz you won´t actually understand the limits of color there, but for black... it becomes grey!!! pick the right tv in this video... just rise the contrast and brightness a little bit and that´s it, it´d be a champion against left one! resume: TRICK!!! AND the worst part, in brazil these HDR tvs will cost easily 5 000 bucks!!!! it´s insane!

      I don't listen to store staff. I'm more knowledgeable than they. avfo rums or hdtvtest us where you want to go for proper advice and proper reviews. Just wait till Panasonic release their 2017 Oleds. Led tech has too many issues that can't be nor will ever be resolved. oled from LG doesn't have a motion drive. oleds only issue really is brightness. But Panasonic will find a way around this. oled can be improved to higher brightness. it's just oled isn't quite there yet. tell me how many years have we had ccfl Ltd, led Lcd tvs and they still have all the same sorts of issues which will never be resolved as long as they use back lights. oled has been in the market consumer no where near as long and will improve in less than a quarter the time led tvs have been around. there are other techs around the corner as well similar to crt, plasma and oled.

    tv's are all about detail and colour accuracy, the new smart features ect are useless to be honest as you watch massive screens for movies in my opinion. I wish tv's include a curve system and a wider gamma function so you can see the detail rather then this deep black nonsense as it hides the detail.THX colour arrangement is great and it would be fabulous as directors should include these setting on each bluray dvd's for best performance.The best way to find a tv is to go and test out the tv by brining your favourite film thats what i did, i have the pioneer plasma and its been 10 years and runs like a trooper :)

      Sony entered a OLED 75 proto type for TV EXPO, and it was VERY good but cost $36,000 USD to make, OLED is EXPENSIVE and for a better black, just doesn't justify that coin really, and also other issues lifespan of the TV,  need more companies to make OLED TV's , to bring the price down.Also I've seen OLEDS and this x930D , and the Sony is a cleaner watching experience, even on space movies if it's set up right, and I've never owned a Sony, but I just went and bought this model, and its a very nice TV, took 4 of my brothers with me to compare LG Samsung Sony, and this TV we all agreed it was very good picture, and also the price, but like all TV's they have there issues, 3D is very bad, and if you don't calibrate the TV, you will get light bleeding.but my X930D if very black with space movies, and VERY colorful and bright, and everyone who has seen it, cant believe how life like the picture is.PC gaming is also excellent, a lot of good things about this TV, reading all the negatives on these comments, really are not all true, if people just had a look at the TV compared to lot others , it might just shock you, if its a good X930D

    but people cant admit that because they thought thar they know enough about technology but the dont
    the quality and the colors of display doesn't depend on type of display it depends on how the company calibrates it
    there are oled with natural colors and others with over saturated Colos

    Since when is brighter better? Calibrated for your viewing environment is what matters. In your living room or home media room they will be almost the same when calibrated. Plus the OLED has the added benefit of greatly improved black levels. The only major advantage the Sony has is the Judder. It is better on the Sony, but the OLED judder is not terrible and in 98% of content it won't be noticeable.

    • @jerrynovotnik
      @jerrynovotnik 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you are just used to more narrow sRGB color space that cannot display those colors. When you see something that can display a larger portion of what the eye can see you get a false impression of over-saturation. Look in the real world how saturated things are. OLEDs are not over-saturated, it's the other way around - IPS panels are under-saturated.

    This is what I do not understand: We spend time and money to calibrate a set to smpte standards for hd. Now HDR comes out, which is a wider color gamut with a more dynamic contrast ratio. Arent these qualities things we have been atempting to work OUT of tvs? Clearly the grass is neon green on the hdr side of the video, and things look blown out. I can do this by using the widest color gamut my hdtv displays, turning the saturation up, cranking up the contrast and turning on artificial dynamic contrast controls etc. How is HDR better? In person it looks like over exagerated contrast and colors. How is that now a good thing when its been a bad thing for years? lol

      RKoen2006 Regarding Dolby Vision, it is an advantage to some time. When a new version will not be possible to update it. With the standard HDR10 it is possible to add improvements because it is an open source system. Some models of Sony that did not support HDR, now it support the HDR format with an update.

    I'm certainly no tech guru so excuse me if I'm way off here, but isn't it possible that whilst the same imagery was shown on both screens, Sony could've tweaked the actual brightness, colour, saturation etc on the VIDEO/IMAGERY that was played on the OLED? If this was the case it wouldn't matter at all what adjustments you made to the tv because it would've been the content that was different. One adjusted perfectly for Sony's best picture, another to show a poor picture on OLED. Just a layman's thought. Not a Sony or OLED supporter, and personally when I've seen these tv's in person with an array of content I've never seen anything close to this much difference in pictures. OLED overall looks better imo, but probably not $2-3K + better.

    OLED is the better tech , has better contrast , more black levels, (only small improvement needed is the brightness in the colors)...BUT 2017 models like Sony Bravia A1 and the newest LG are almost there !
    LED is the lesser tech and becoming aged...(still LCD). We have to wait when OLED becomes mainstream... prices are already dropping.

    Go down to a store and compare them side by side, Ask them to put a white floating text on black background on both sets, You will never buy another led tv again!OLED destroys any panel out there already, And the new HDR 2016 OLEDS are even better.

    • @johnjordan7232
      @johnjordan7232 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Shane Mc Grath But an "Entry" LG B6 OLED is over 4 grand!! The Sony is half of that. Also I am ATM using a W8 and white text is a thing of the past on a good Led-lit LCD TV.
      I really don't see a 2k difference in PQ. If anything the Sony well stands up to the OLED and then some...
      Black levels were a real advantage when Pioneer Kuro brought out plasmas, but this 'edge-lit LCD' looks to have really good black levels and it's not really as important anymore.
      The Sony is more vibrant in some scenes too. Apart from the bend issue which plagues all slimline TVs, this X930 is a bargain in comparison.

    • @ShaneMcGrath.
      @ShaneMcGrath. 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      OLED destroys it in every way, Search youtube for the side by side comparison and you will see how bad the led is with floating text, The only one that comes close is the 75 inch which has full array local dimming and it still isn't quite as good, May as well buy the OLED because the price of the 75inch lcd is just as bad.
      This new Sony gets beat by Samsung's KS9000 Edge lit in the local dimming area!
      The grey uniformity also sucks on the Sony.
      LG OLED is ranked 1, Then Samsung KS9000 at 2, Visio P series is ranked 3 then it's the new Sony at 4.
      LED doesn't even come close when I see them at the shop next to each other, Get what your happy with but in no way does it compare to OLED, Watch other manufacturers start making OLED's from 2017 onwards.
      Personally I am skipping LED's, was so close to ordering this new SONY but not now after seeing just how good the OLED TV's are, Rather wait it out for prices to stabilise. Still using trusty old Sony Bravia XBR KDL-52XBR4 which doesn't have any horrible bleeding like many of the new LED panels, Samsung I am calling you out on that. lol
      Don't get me wrong the Sony is great and destroys my 9 year old Bravia tv in every way, But after seeing OLED I don't think I want another LCD/LED tv. ;)

    • @johnjordan7232

      I thought as well when I seen OLED in the flesh first, but after reading about all the issues I am inclined to wait for a cheaper Panasonic or Sony. It will be more mature by then too. The G6 LG range is at a cost just to keep OLED as premium as LG are the only ones going forward with it... The other Co's dont think its ready and I am inclined to agree. A little bit of blooming to save 3 grand. Thats fine by me. The images on the face of it are very close now.:-)

      john jordan Once you have it you should be set for several years easy. Agree, $3k is a lot of money, Many people don't even spend that 3k difference in an entire tv purchase.

      Enjoy the Sony, Please let us all know how it is. Any issues you may notice once it's settled in if any, Would be greatly appreciated.

The earliest models of plasma had burn in, but they fixed that. I have had a plasma for ten years and game on it all the time. i have never ever had any burn in. +ABRAHAM LINCOLN I work for magnolia design centers, I know little bit more than just basic knowledge. The only plasmas I didn't have major burn were high and very expensive plasmas, like the old Pioneer elite. Oleds still burn in there current models, have at least two customers every couple weeks or so that use their Best Buy protection to get an exchange because they burn, oled and current models. Oled tvs are the future, but with their horrible motion for basic TV, and streaming services. They have a long way to go and current High-end LEDs are way better. The Sony X930d and x940 have better upscaling and far better motion. I go to CES and major vendor shows every year. Just because you want to hop on the Oled ban wagon.
